Hi,
Happiest late birthday to you! 💐🎂
I hope you had a nice day!
I have a scenario from your list 🙈
➣ A gets slightly jealous while out, so they grab B's hand to establish the relationship
A: Deacon
B: Reader
Thank you so much! I love this request; jealous Deacon is a need, not a want. There's quite a bit of set-up in this, but I promise I get to the prompt! Hondo (who acts a lot like Derek Morgan in this for some reason) and Luca are in quite a bit of this. I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think! :)
Warnings: jealous!Deacon, fluff, meddling, teasing, more fluff
Word Count: 1.6k+ words
Picture from Pinterest
You stare at the ceiling in the locker room with your fingers locked behind your neck. It's been a long day, and you want nothing more than to go home, take a hot shower, and go to bed. But Hondo asked you to stay overnight because of a developing hostage situation. 20-David is on standby, and with nothing better to do, you try to relax in the small quiet area.
"Are you good?" Hondo asks with a laugh as he walks in.
You drop your head to the side to look at him. "I'm great."
"You're good to go, we got the all-clear from Hicks." You nod but don't get up. "You sure you're alright?"
"Mhmm," you hum. "I think I'm part of this bench now."
Hondo laughs as he pulls his backpack from his locker. "I'm heading out if you need a ride or anything. Deac and Luca are still here, but they're leaving soon too."
"I'm good. Thanks, Hondo."
Hondo nods, giving you a sarcastic salute as he backs out the door. You lean back on the bench, putting your hands behind your head as you lay down. The door opens quietly, and you close your eyes against the light outside.
Deacon says your name, and you open your eyes to see him standing over you. "Let's go," he says, offering you a hand.
"I live here now," you mumble.
Deacon chuckles before slipping a hand under your arm and hoisting you up to a sitting position. If you weren't so tired, maybe you'd care about being manhandled, but you don't.
"I'll drive you home. Grab your stuff," Deacon says.
You sit up suddenly, tilting your head back to look at him. "Weren't we supposed to go to dinner tonight?"
Deacon nods as he closes his locker, smiling as he walks to you. "Yes, we were. I called earlier and changed the reservation to tomorrow. Hopefully, it'll be a shorter day."
You nod, taking Deacon's hand and allowing him to pull you to your feet. Stumbling into his chest, you sigh as his arm wraps around your shoulders.
"Carry me home?" you say against his shoulder.
"And listen to our team?" Deacon reminds you.
Huffing, you step back and open your locker, grabbing your things before following Deacon to the parking lot. He opens the passenger door for you and kisses your temple.
"I got you from here," he promises as your eyes close.
Deacon has no problem showing people he cares about and loves you, but you both learned the hard way that your team will take every chance to tease you, albeit lovingly. For that reason, you minimize the PDA and relationship-related activities and discussions while at HQ. They mean well, but sometimes they don't know when to stop.
✯✯✯✯✯
You get to work before Deacon, and he smiles at you when he passes you in the hall. Looking forward to your dinner date, you hope everything goes smoothly and Los Angeles stays relatively safe today.
"Oh, you're going out tonight," Hondo teases when he sees you.
"Let me guess," Luca interjects. "Otium."
"Nah, man, fancier. 71Above?"
"I got it!" Luca cheers, pointing at you. "Fleming's."
Hondo nods, fist-bumping Luca as they smile at you.
"What's going on?" Deacon asks as he walks in.
"You takin' her to Fleming's?" Luca asks.
Deacon's brows furrow as he answers, "No."
Hondo shakes his head as he clicks his tongue. "You should."
"Why do you guys even care?" you ask. "You tell us to tone everything down, that we're too 'couple-y.'"
"That had to have been Street," Hondo mutters. "Why can't we be interested?"
"Because you haven't been interested before," Deacon points out.
"Whatever, man, just have a good time. Alright? And if you're lying about Fleming's, bring me a doggy bag," Luca says as he backs out of the office.
"We mean well," Hondo says.
"You do it loudly," you tease, smiling.
Hondo shakes his head before shooing you away. "Go train or something. And leave room!"
✯✯✯✯✯
Your shift ends, marking the conclusion of an uneventful work day and the beginning of date night with Deacon. He's waiting for you at the door after you clean up and change.
"You look beautiful," Deacon says as he takes your arm.
"Thank you. You look great, too," you reply.
"The guys were wrong about Fleming's but I think you'll like this place."
Deacon holds your hand over the console on the short drive from HQ to the restaurant. It's smaller than most places in LA and tucked off the road like it's only there for the people worthy enough to find it. Once inside, you see a patio decorated with fairy lights that opens up to an overlook with a view of the hills. You gasp as you walk to the window, looking into the night as Deacon tells the hostess his name.
"This is gorgeous," you whisper as you return to Deacon's side. "How'd you find this place?"
"I know a guy," Deacon teases.
His eyes drift from you momentarily, and you glance over your shoulder but don't see anything out of the ordinary. When you turn around, Deacon is back to acting like himself, though he seems to stay closer to your side than usual.
The waiter's eyes linger on you a little too long every time he comes to the table, which Deacon thinks happens more than it should. Deacon's hand rests over yours as the waiter returns with the check, but the man sets it down while looking at you.
You notice the Deacon's attitude shift but can't place what caused it. He's not mad at you or anything like that, but he's not quite himself tonight. He seemed fine at work, so if something happened since then, you should have seen it.
"Are you okay?" you ask as you walk out.
Deacon's jaw clenches once before he nods. "He kept looking at you."
"Oh," you whisper.
Someone whistles, and you roll your eyes as you turn to face Deacon. "You know I don't care, don't even notice, right? I don't want anyone but you."
"I do, I know that, but it's uncomfortable I guess," Deacon explains.
"Want to go to the beach? No waiters or catcalls, just you, me, and the ocean?" you offer.
Deacon nods, opening the passenger door as his jealousy dissipates with your confirmation that he's all you want. Jealousy has never been a conscious decision, though, and it will reappear when given an opportunity.
✯✯✯✯✯
Someone bumps into you on the beach; the sun has gone down, but there's enough light to see the man and Deacon beside you. You begin to apologize but stop when he speaks first.
"Whoa, sorry about that, beautiful," he says, offering a hand. "You alright?"
"Yeah, sorry," you reply, stepping back.
"I don't even know what happened," the guy says, smiling as he brushes his fingers through his hair. "Maybe your beauty just distracted me. You come to this beach often?"
Did he really just ask that? you think, and Deacon does, too.
"Uh, no, we're just trying to walk on the beach," you answer, stepping toward Deacon to go around the guy.
"Okay, cool. So, are you just visiting family, or?"
At the implication that Deacon isn't with you, the jealousy from earlier not only reappears but grows in strength. Deacon presses his lips together to stop himself from saying anything.
He does, however, slide his hand into yours and pull you closer to establish your relationship: not siblings, cousins, or anything else that can be separated by some random guy on a beach.
"Well, uh, sorry again for bumping into you," you say when Deacon's hand tightens on yours.
"No apology necessary," the guy says, his eyes dropping to your joined hands. "Have a good one."
"You too," you mumble before bumping into Deacon to ask him to leave.
Deacon keeps his hand in yours, his thumb brushing over your knuckles as he walks to the water.
"The hand holding was a nice touch," you say. "Although you could have just pulled me away."
"I shouldn't have gotten jealous," Deacon says, to himself, you think.
"I'm not worth getting jealous for?" you tease, pouting as you turn to look at Deacon. He rolls his eyes, and you place your arms over his shoulders and pull yourself closer to say, "I'm not upset with you, Deacon. He was making me uncomfortable anyway. I get jealous too, there's nothing wrong with it as long as you handle it in a healthy way."
Deacon nods. "Thank you. I'll work on it."
You hum, leaning up to peck Deacon's lips. "It was kinda hot."
Deacon laughs, shaking his head as he loops his arms around your waist. "This is why the guys at work tease us."
"No, they're just trying to get under your skin. And it works."
You're right, and Deacon knows it. But now he's wondering, what if he didn't let him bother him?
✯✯✯✯✯
"You bring me Fleming's?" Luca asks, perking up as you and Deacon walk in, hand-in-hand.
"We didn't even get Fleming's," you argue. "We got something way better."
"What's better than Fleming's?" Hondo asks.
"Shoes full of sand," you say, sighing wistfully.
"Hey, if you ever want a better date, you know where to find me," Hondo says, winking at you.
Deacon's hand inches toward yours. He's catching on; they've been trying to get under his skin and make him jealous.
"If he takes you to Fleming's, bring me something," Deacon says, leaning over to whisper in your ear.
His hand slips into yours, and you let him pull you closer.
"We need to change tactics," Luca says, looking at Hondo. "Right now."

For Silas and Hanna please!
😭💤🌙🌱📎💚
Thank you!
😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?
Silas: I think general things like stress and anxiety make him cry. Especially when he feels helpless in a certain situation. Also if someone deeply hurts him, he doesn't cry immediately but will later on. He doesn't cry often and accidentally ends up slightly bottling it up until it's too late and then he has to cry.
Hanna: I think she cries when she's overwhelmed and hurt. Tries to cry every so often because it's a good way to release her emotions.
💤 SLEEPING - do they fall asleep easily? what helps them sleep?
Silas: Most nights he falls asleep fine, I wouldn't say easily, but he manages. He'll listen to calming music or read something until he falls asleep.
Hanna: Falls asleep quickly. Likes to look at her phone until she falls asleep.
🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?
Silas: To live a good life. He's worked hard to get independent and comfortable, so I think he's pretty satisfied. Maybe he had the wish back in his teens/early 20s.
Hanna: To help animals, dogs especially. Whether that be to help care for them by grooming them or eventually helping to rescue them. She tries to keep semi-reasonable goals. So it's not like she'd sacrifice everything. But it's definitely a dream job thingy.
🌱 SEEDLING - what is their most vivid memory from childhood?
Silas: Meeting Hanna at the library, reading Moomin together.
Hanna: She, Silas, and her family celebrating her birthday at a park, she and Silas climbing trees and playing tag with Hanna's older brothers.
📎 PAPERCLIP - a random fact.
Silas: He accidentally got on the wrong school bus once as a kid and almost gave his mom a heart attack.
Hanna: Was going to try to pierce her ears herself as a kid until Silas convinced her not to.
💚 GREEN HEART - what things make your oc feel comforted? hugs, kisses, food?
Silas: Hugs and people affectionately squeezing his hand.
Hanna: Words of affirmation, people making a childhood meal for her, cuddling.

Animation Face-Offs
I find it amusing that the first real major animated movie box office show-off is occurring some 35 years after the one that arguably started it all...
November 18, 1988... Walt Disney Feature Animation's celebrity-loaded modern musical OLIVER & COMPANY from first-time director George Scribner, and Universal's release of the Steven Spielberg/George Lucas-produced ex-Disney director Don Bluth adventure THE LAND BEFORE TIME...
This wasn't the first time two animated pictures opened next to each other.
In fall 1982, Hanna-Barbera's HEIDI'S SONG opened opposite a Looney Tunes clipshow anthology movie called 1001 RABBIT TALES. Combined, they made $5m at the domestic box office... Not great times to open an animated feature that wasn't Disney, and not that their distributors probably even cared at the time anyways.
Sometimes, there are around two animated features a month. It's not uncommon for two studios to share. Off the top of my head, you had - in November 2010 - MEGAMIND at the beginning of the month, and TANGLED before Thanksgiving. In the early summer of 2013, MONSTERS UNIVERSITY only opened about a few weeks before DESPICABLE ME 2. TROLLS and MOANA shared November 2016. Again, just random examples off the top of my head.
But usually, they're spaced out... TROLLS BAND TOGETHER and WISH are five days apart...
TROLLS 3 is projected to take in around $20-25m this weekend, which is significantly less than what TROLLS took in back in 2016, but still alright for this kind of movie. WISH is set to out-open it, with over $50m for the 5-day Thanksgiving weekend stretch. For a $200m-costing movie, it's going to need all the legs in the world to get by. TROLLS 3 will need to pull some good weight too to more than double its much more modest $95m budget. (Wild to think that $95m seems *low*... There was a time when a DreamWorks/PDI movie cost $75m... And for a good while, roughly $135m!)
I'm curious to see how each film affects one another. Families aren't made of money, and there's gotta be a kind of adult pull to really make big bucks, and I'm not sure if either of these films have that. Plus you have stuff like WONKA right around the corner... Thankfully no Marvel, Star Wars, or Avatar movie to counter with. Although, PUSS IN BOOTS Dos last year, woooooow. That cat held his own against the blue cat aliens.
But yeah, if you think about it... This is a rare head-to-head race.
One could argue we saw this in late winter of 2021 when Warner Bros. released their live-action TOM & JERRY, and then Disney Animation had RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON out a week later. But that was before vaccines got out for all age groups (they were distributed to the elderly first, I - who was 28 at the time - couldn't get my first shot until April.), and the films had simultaneous streaming debuts, so I don't really count that. Plus, Cinemark theaters refused to show RAYA over a disagreement on who got most of the earnings. (That would've been my return trip to the movies after a year-long hiatus, my return ended up being A QUIET PLACE: PART II two months later.)
It's funny how TROLLS 3 is Universal and WISH is Disney... Just like how LAND BEFORE TIME was Universal, and OLIVER was Disney.
The Disney-Universal race was successful for both. OLIVER took home $53m domestically (the $71m figure you often see comes from the film's 1996 re-release), LAND BEFORE TIME took home $48m. Worldwide is up the air, because Disney never released OLIVER's numbers, Universal reported that LAND made around $84m. Winner is unknown, but it was always assumed to be LAND. Maybe because dinosaurs are more Universal than a modern-day New York comedy? Who knows!
Perhaps greatly inspired by that double-whammy of animated hits, MGM/United Artists wanted to try that for themselves. Don Bluth split with Spielberg and Lucas due to creative disagreements during production of both LAND BEFORE TIME and his other Spielberg collab AN AMERICAN TAIL, and set up ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN with the lion. MGM/UA released ALL DOGS the same day as THE LITTLE MERMAID...
Bluth's movie got left to sink by the Ron Clements and John Musker-directed musical sleeper hit... It wasn't even close. $27m domestic vs. $84m domestic, and in addition that, MERMAID's worldwide figures put it at roughly $183m. (Again, in 1989-90, without the 1997 re-release counted.) ALL DOG's worldwide total is unknown.
This didn't entirely scare distributors away from trying again.
The fall of 1990 was originally set to see another Bluth vs. Disney face-off. If plans had held, MGM-Pathe would've released Bluth's ROCK-A-DOODLE on the same day as Disney's sequel THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER. MGM-Pathe ran into financial and legal problems, putting Bluth's film in limbo for a bit...
Instead, Warner Bros. went toe to toe with Disney, releasing an animated feature that wasn't a Looney Tunes clipshow: THE NUTCRACKER PRINCE... Suffice to say, it barely scrounged up $1m domestically, and Disney's sequel had troubles of its own, stalling at $29m domestically, $47m worldwide.
Two films fled from the autumn of 1991, as BEAUTY AND THE BEAST looked to not be a repeat of RESCUERS DOWN UNDER, but a repeat of LITTLE MERMAID and OLIVER's successes... 20th Century Fox - who had FERNGULLY: THE LAST RAINFOREST - and The Samuel Goldwyn Company - who picked up ROCK-A-DOODLE - chickened, literally in the latter's case...
Only Universal had the guts to take on the beast... By releasing AN AMERICAN TAIL: FIEVEL GOES WEST the same day. The Don Bluth-less sequel made only $22m domestically, while BEAUTY AND THE BEAST made... $145m in North America alone, and blew up with $331m around the world...
After FERNGULLY and ROCK-A-DOODLE wisely fled from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, they duked it out in April 1992. DOODLE opened the first weekend of the month, with FERNGULLY following. FERNGULLY won with $24m domestically, DOODLE struggled with $11m. (It's worth noting that DOODLE first came out in the UK in August of 1991.)
Universal initially thought they'd have WE'RE BACK! A DINOSAUR'S STORY ready to compete with ALADDIN, but they likely realized that that was not a great idea... WE'RE BACK! opened over a full year after ALADDIN and still flopped hard. It opened nearby BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM, which also made a paltry amount.
From there on out, things were typically spaced out. Sometimes the smaller efforts opened close to each other.
And now here we are, Thanksgiving week of 2023... We have trolls vs. wishing stars. Universal vs. Disney. It'll be fun to watch, but I hope the two film crews of both get to put food on their tables once more.

Racing Stripes, Chapter 20
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: none really
Carlos sighed to himself as he watched the review of the race from the laptop once again.
Both his father and his cousin had been on his tail after the race. He could thankfully screen his father’s calls…but he couldn’t avoid it when his cousin had reminded him of the fact.
“Carlos, you need to pick up your phone…” his cousin, and manager, Carlos said firmly as he held up his own phone, “your father won’t stop texting me that you are blocking his calls.”
“I’m not blocking him,” the young driver sighed, not wanting to deal with his cousin, “tell him that I’m doing the debrief with Ferrari…”
“You’ll have to talk to him at some point,” his cousin sighed, shaking his head, “I’ll cover for you for tonight, but if you don’t call him back by breakfast tomorrow, you know that he’ll know something is up. I won’t cover for you then.”
“Yeah…” he shrugged, walking out of the paddock.
He hadn’t been in the mood to celebrate with the rest of the guys.
Sure, they were all his friends and he was genuinely happy for them, but it had been two weeks in a row where he hadn’t placed high enough to get his dream girl.
And the fact that his best friend Lando came in fifteenth meant that he couldn’t even beg him to pick Bella for him.
So he’d decided to re-watch the race to see if there was anything he could do about the strategy that the team had chosen.
He needed to find a way to get better.
But his thoughts were interrupted when he’d heard a knock at the door.
His brow furrowed.
He picked up his phone and looked at it.
It was well into the early hours of the morning.
He hadn’t ordered any food.
Nor had he expected anyone from the team to be coming for him. Usually the night after the race, the teams did their de-briefs or planned for one in the mornings before letting the drivers go about their business.
“Hello?” he asked after hearing the second round of knocks on his door.
He didn’t receive a response.
He frowned, hoping that a fan hadn’t somehow found out what room he was in.
With another heavy sigh he pushed the laptop onto bed beside him and slipped off the queen sized mattress.
He was surprised when he padded over to the door and opened it.
Bella stood there, waiting.
Carlos’ mouth opened and he gaped like a fish at her, “Bella…wh-what on earth are you doing here?”
“I-I wanted to see you,” she smiled sweetly, “I-I’m sorry that it’s late. I promised that I’d watch Hanna and Sebastian’s ki-“
The Spanish driver couldn’t contain himself as he surged forward and pulled her into his arms. She melted into him as their lips connected in a feverish kiss.
Carlos hadn’t planned on her showing up, but she was exactly what he needed.
He was quick to pull away though, his thoughts catching up to him, “wait…we shouldn’t be doing this. I-I didn’t pick you. I don’t get a-“
“I didn’t get picked this week,” she said with a smile, “if a girl isn’t picked she can do whatever she wants for the week…usually I watch Seb and Hanna’s kids for some extra cash…”
“But tonight you’re here…”
She smiled and nodded, “I was kind of hoping that we could pick up where we left off the other week…I mean…I love how sweet you are with the other drivers…but we ended up babysitting Charles the whole week…”
Carlos frowned, thinking about the other driver, and how his depressive attitude had killed the mood for the week when he’d become an unofficial third wheel, spending all of his free time with Carlos. Carlos sighed and rubbed the back of his neck after stepping back from Bella, “i-I’m sorry about that. I just…I know what it’s like to have feelings with a motorsports girl and think that you’re alone out there…”
“Well…this motorsports girl happens to know that she’s very much into the guy that likes her as well…” she giggled, stepping forward, “and I definitely want to pick up where we left off before Charles showed up the other week.”
Carlos smiled once more, “really?”
“Mhmmm,” she nodded, “really. What do you say, Carlos? Can I come in?”
“Yes…yes please!” he smiled.
“You can’t let it break you down.”
“Mon ami!”
Everyone looked between the pair, unsure of what would happen.
Would she reject him like La La had rejected Bottas not too long ago?
Would she be forced into resigning because of her persistent ex?
Mon Ami looked towards the calm racer sipping on a beer in the corner and their eyes met. He shot her a wink and drank from his glass once more. She sighed and nodded her head, walking over to her ex-boyfriend.
A few of the other drivers were shocked, surprised to see her going willingly with him after everything that had happened.
“What do you mean, ‘don’t let it break me down?’ How can it not?” she asked, “he’s doing this to torture me because he knows that eventually the stewards will tell me or him to get over it…and newsflash…I’m just a motorsports girl. Most of the world doesn’t even know I exist. I am pretty much an in-house prostitute for you drivers.”
Kimi shrugged, “fine…then let it bother you. If all you want to be is a prostitute, get on your knees and do less talking.”
She frowned at the bluntness from the driver, “you’re the one that said you wanted to talk about this…”
He shrugged, “you’re a good girl, mon ami. You always have been. But if you want to be a simple whore, fine. Suck my cock. But don’t be making the googly eyes at your boyfriend the entire time during the race week, hoping that he comes up and apologizes to you.”
Her brow dropped and she frowned at the driver, “really Kimi? Esteban and I-“
“Are still madly in love with each other,” he chuckled as he shot her a look, “you two crazy kids are just that. Crazy kids. Once you both get over what’s happened, you’ll figure it out.”
“There’s nothing to figure out,” she mumbled, “we broke up. There’s nothing there.”
He chuckled once more, “you two will figure it out. You just have to not let it get to you.”
“Is that what you did?” she asked, giving him another look.
He frowned and put his beer on the night stand, “no…”
She noticed how his attitude changed drastically, “why are you trying to give me advice, Kimi?”
“Because I’m a lonely old man who wants to get involved in everyone else’s lives,” he grumbled, “is that a good enough answer for you?”
She frowned, suddenly feeling guilty about questioning the driver’s motives, “I-I don’t mean it like that, Kimi. It’s just…you and Esteban aren’t close. And you and I have had sex a few times when you’ve chosen me, but I was never your regular girl. You usually opted for the extra cash prize. So why did you pick me and why are you giving me advice?”
“Because I see a lot of you and your boyfriend in myself and a relationship with a past motorsports girl,” he admitted, “sweet little Canadian just like yourself. She was the apple of my eye and we started seeing each other. But when things started getting serious I told her to quit. I couldn’t stand the fact that every week I didn’t place high enough someone else chose her. I didn’t talk about our situation…just demanded she quit…”
“And did she?”
He sighed, “Yeah…but not at first. She wanted to wait until I gave her more of a commitment. I agreed…I mean, we thought we were in love. But I couldn’t commit to her any further. After another year I told her that she either quit or we were breaking up. She quit but ended up resenting me for it. It ruined our relationship.”
“I didn’t quit for Esteban though,” she said quickly, “an-and Esteban was ready to propose to me. We-we talked about getting a house after this season. We-“
“And that’s where you’re different from me and my sweet little thing,” he chuckled as he took a sip from his beer, “you and him talk. We didn’t. We let our emotions eat us up until we broke each other.”
“E-Este doesn’t want anything to do with me now,” she said softly, shaking her head at the driver, “the stewards talked to him. He-“
“He still wants you to love him,” the normally quiet man told her, “trust me…in his own way, he’s trying to reach out to you…next time he does…don’t be so quick to turn him away. Talk it out…okay kiddo?”
Esteban was nervous as he opened the hotel room and let Mon Ami walk in first.
The journey back to the hotel had been an awkward one. They hadn’t talked, and had remained a little further from one another than necessary.
But they were with each other.
“I-I’m surprised you picked me!” she said quickly, looking to him.
Esteban nodded, more to himself than at Mon Ami, “yeah…I uh-I’ve been thinking…”
“About us?”
He nodded once more, his hand instinctively going behind his head and rubbing at the back of his neck, “Yeah…I-I wanted to talk to you one last time.”
Her eyes met his and she felt like her heart was breaking. Her eyes widened, “wh-what?”
“You know,” he shrugged, “we-we aren’t together anymore. And I-“
“I don’t want to lose you,” she said quickly, almost desperately, as she rushed towards the driver. Esteban was surprised to hear the words come out of her mouth, and his eyes widened in surprise, “Esteban….I-I can’t lose you.”
His mouth went dry.
He’d been thinking about what to say to her all week. He’d been talking with Sebastian and his wife Hanna about the situation, and had a new perspective. He’d realized what he’d done.
He wanted to tell her that he was a fool for trying to tell her how to live her life and manage her career because when they first got together he knew what she did. He wanted to tell her that he understood why she stood up to him, because when he’d talked to the Vetels, he’d learned that they’d once been in a similar situation. That most of the driver’s that went through that type of relationship did at some point.
But most importantly, he wanted to tell her that he still loved her with all of his heart, and that he too, didn’t want to lose her.
“What?”
“i-I’ve been talking with some people-“
“Hanna and Sebastian?”
Her brow furrowed and she shook her head, “What? No…no…I-Kimi. He’s been in a similar situation…well, was in one a long time ago…and he told me about it. He-he made me realize that I was being stupid.”
“No, no,” Esteban said quickly, pulling his ex towards himself, “you weren’t being stupid, Mon Ami…Natalie…I put you in a position that I shouldn’t have. I tried to make you choose something we’d discussed and I’d agreed to because I was getting jealous.”
“I still love you, Esteban…” she said quietly, “through all of it…I still love you. And god, I miss you desperately. I miss all the little things like the good morning texts and you surprising me after your driver’s meetings. The late practices when you have me wearing your coat so I won’t get cold…your kisses…”
“I miss that too,” he admitted nervously, “I-I don’t want to lose that either…”
“What do we do though, Este?” she asked sadly, “We-we have seven more races before the season…we-“
“I want to try again!” he said quickly, “we-we talk about everything along the way. All the time. If-if I start getting jealous or feeling a certain type of way I don’t blame you…it’s your obligation…I-I know it’s your job. I just don’t want to lose you again, Mon Ami. I want to spend my life with you.”

Today the Church remembers Ragheed Aziz Ganni, priest, and Basman Yousef Daud, Wahid Hanna Isho, and Gassan Isam Bidawed, deacons, martyrs.
Ora pro nobis.
Fr. Ganni (20 January 1972, Mosul, Iraq – 3 June 2007, Mosul) was a Chaldean Catholic priest. On June 3, 2007, Trinity Sunday, the Sunday after Pentecost, he was killed along with three subdeacons including his cousin Basman Yousef Daud, Wahid Hanna Isho, and Gassan Isam Bidawed in front of Mosul’s Holy Spirit Chaldean Church where he was parish priest.
Ganni had just finished celebrating the Sunday evening Holy Qurbana (Mass). The three deacons had recently decided to accompany Ganni because of threats against his life. After Mass he was walking away from the church with Daud as Isho, Bidawed, and Isho’s wife followed by car; the group was stopped by unknown armed men. One of the gunmen shouted at Ganni that he had warned him to close the church and demanded to know why he didn’t do it. Ganni replied asking “How can I close the house of God?” The gunmen ordered the woman to flee. Then after the gunmen demanded that the four men convert to Islam and they refused the four were shot down. The car was then set with explosives to deter interference and so that the bodies would remain abandoned. Several hours passed until a police bomb-squad defused the devices allowing corpses to be recovered.
Thousands of people attended the funeral of the four men in Karemlash, Iraq on June 4, 2007. Ganni was secretary to Paulos Faraj Rahho, the Archbishop of Mosul of the Chaldean Church, Iraq’s largest Christian community. Rahho was murdered only nine months after Ganni’s death, in the same city of Mosul.
Almighty God, by whose grace and power your holy martyrs Ragheed, Basman, Wahid, and Gassan, triumphed over suffering and was faithful even to death: Grant us, who now remember him in thanksgiving, to be so faithful in our witness to you in this world, that we may receive with him the crown of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

I worry we're going to see that same hollowed-out look on the face of so many content kids in the coming years. Hollywood needs to be severely reigned-in with kid performer regulations, and that needs to cover the ones being tormented by Mom & Pop as well as Disney & Nick.
I'm not even sure you can even run a Hanna-Montana style show in a way that's ethical. They have a hard enough time on sitcoms where the kids aren't in every scene and aren't the dominant portion of the cast. Kids who love acting should be acting in theater class and school plays and their own self-made home movie projects. Everything else is labor, and while excising children from live-action representation in film is untenable, minimizing it is best for everyone.
I mean, there are reasons that teenagers on TV are in their 20s (in their 30s in my day). Make 90210 or Riverdale with actual teenagers and not only will they age out in two seasons, the FBI is going to be kicking down your door. Youthful adults and audience suspension of disbelief is way easier and less ethically fraught.
And along those same lines, there are reasons animation has been a central aspect of kidvid since kidvid became a thing. Many of them are the same as the ones driving the 90210 16-going-on-35 solution: Nancy Cartwright/Ian Corlett style voices don't age, you don't have to deal with child labor laws, etc.
But the big advantage to not using actual kids to make kids content for the audience is a matter of peer-age parasocial pitchmen. The sheer amount of sell-it-sell-it-sell-it in the Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen material would make 1985 Hasbro blush, but with the unregulated content-free-for-all of the web, now its all delivered by kids the audience's own age, using their own name, talking to the audience directly through the camera while making eye contact.
Abusive family YT channels and the live-action TV kid-trauma mills happen for the same reason. Kidcentric sitcoms are cheap to produce and create a trifecta of media-fandom, celebrity-culture and and parasocial pseudo-peer trust that makes for a very effective path to the 'rents pocketbooks.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for awesome merch-driven kidvid, but there's a number of huge differences between an action comedy featuring a bunch of cartoonized action figures trying to be as awesome and fun as it can to move some plastic and an exploited kid the same age as the audience talking to them directly through the camera while unwrapping a birthday party's worth of that selfsame plastic every day as their parents prompt them from behind the camera.
Seriously, if the FCC and the FTC applied the television kidvid rules to online content you could fund the space program with the fines to a single channel.
Didn’t expect this to be so frightening

I Need You
You need Deacon Kay. Desperately, entirely, eternally, you need him.
It’s been six days since you heard his voice and nearly two weeks since you hugged him, cupped his jaw, and kissed him like your life depended on it. 20-David was called away on an important mission, aiding another agency with a big bust. Deacon held you for hours before he left and has been able to call once since leaving, but you have a deep craving for him: to feel his touch and hear his voice. You could call a friend to call to keep you company, but it’s not the same. There is only one cure for your touch starvation (perhaps more aptly categorized as Deacon starvation), and the cure is Deacon Kay himself.
Right now, you don’t know what to do. Hicks has sent you a few updates since Deacon went away, but you feel like you’re starving without Deacon. It’s part of his job and his life, but that doesn’t make it easier on you. Every moment he is away from you creates a fracture in your heart, in your being, that only he can mend.
You fall asleep with Deacon’s pillow clutched to your chest (again). It’s one of many things you’ve tried to lessen your homesickness, which is the proper word because Deacon is your home, and you miss him so much you’re sick. When you dream, Deacon is right beside you, and you love it, but it makes waking up without him much harder. After nights of being unable to sleep without Deacon’s warmth beside you, you’ve nearly run out of ideas for temporary comfort.
Staring at the ceiling, you try to convince your mind that it’s Deacon in your arms and not a weak substitute. While resting in your desperation and sadness, you take longer than you should to realize your phone is ringing.
“Hello?” you greet, hoping that Deacon is back in Los Angeles and about to come home to you.
“We’re all clear. I’ll send him home soon, but you can call whenever you want,” Hicks says before ending the call. Brief and informative, that’s Hicks.
You scramble to dial Deacon’s number. With each dial tone, you squeeze your eyes closed tighter.
“Hey,” Deacon breathes out as the line connects. “I was about to call you.”
“Hi,” you say, trying not to choke over the building tears. “I’m so glad to hear your voice, Deac.”
“Glad to hear yours too, you have no idea. I need to get home. I’m sorry it took so long, we ran into a lot of unexpected,” Deacon pauses and sighs. Pressure builds in your eyes as you picture his big brown eyes while he adds, “unexpected everything, really. But we’re back now, finally.”
“It’s okay.” You quiet to add, “I just miss you. So much.”
“I know. I miss you too.”
You hiccup, trying to swallow your tears. The noise alerts Deacon that something is wrong, and though he’s miles away, you can nearly feel the change in his demeanor. You know he’s tense with eyes wide as he rushes to action.
“What’s going on? Are you alright?” he asks, pulling you from your mental image of him.
His concern pushes you over the edge, and you let your tears flow as you sink to the floor on your knees, sobbing as you listen to Deacon’s voice, his pillow still held to your chest. You need him, but this is the best you can get for now, and you’re thankful for it.
“Baby, baby, take a deep breath. What’s going on?” Deacon asks, his voice strained. You think you hear hurried footsteps and a door slam before Deacon’s voice comes through clearer.
“I miss you and I- I’m so lonely, David. It felt like you’d never come back, I’d never hear your voice again or hug you again and I need you. I need you more than anything else,” you ramble through your tears; they slow as you listen to Deacon breathing on the other end of the phone.
“Hey, you have me.” You blow a sharp, pained breath out of your nose, and Deacon reiterates, “You have me. You will always have me. I’m coming home.”
“You’re still working,” you argue weakly, wiping your tears with the back of your hand. “They need you, too.”
“Not like you do. And they’ll understand. Be ready for a long hug when I get there?”
You laugh, and Deacon smiles on the other end of the line, his chest loosening as he realizes exactly how much he needs you, too.
“We need each other, sweetheart. So, I’m right beside you, no matter what.”
“I love you, Deacon.”
“I love you. I’ll tell Hicks I’m leaving and be home in a bit.”
“I’ll be waiting for my hug.”
You know that Deacon needs you the same way you need him, and you have each other, countless hugs, weeks apart, and everything in between. He laughs before the line disconnects, and while you won’t feel whole until he’s back in your arms, knowing that he’s on his way makes everything better.
When you hear his car idling in the driveway, your tears begin anew, fresh and passionate. He rushes into your room, dropping to the floor beside you as he pulls you into his arms, holding your head below his chin as his arms tighten around you. With slowing tears, your arms grip Deacon’s shirt below his shoulders as you lean against him.
“I need you,” Deacon whispers into your hair. “Thanks for calling me home.”

Hanna Saarikoski in New York, #Day 20
On a sunny Sunday morning, the streets of Brooklyn were filled with little kids and their parents learning to ride bikes, playing, laughing, and running. And quite a few of them were also skating at Pier 2. There I was, in the middle of it all, a little insecure at first, and probably the only adult wearing a helmet. It had been more than two decades since I had last been on roller skates. I soon discovered that it wasn't that far from ice skating, which was my favorite winter sport as a kid and something I still do a few times a winter. So it wasn't that difficult, just a lot of fun.
In the afternoon, I walked to the East Village to attend a Gotham Swords free swordplay class for beginners. It took place in a community garden called Serenity Garden and the place itself was worth a visit with cozy and beautiful trees and flowers, stones and a nice lady who ran the garden. The Gotham Sword members were really skilled, it was exciting to see their demonstration of swordplay, to hear them tell about the historical context and how to practice swordplay. And they guided anyone who wanted to test the basic moves with wooden sticks they use instead of a real sword (no wonder, it was pretty easy to imagine how dangerous it would be with a sharp weapon). I tested a bit and it was clear that the moves they did so effortlessly and with style are hard as nasty cardio training. This was one of many things I've tested here and could easily imagine doing more, if only I had the chance to practice and the time to do it all.
In the evening it was time for a documentary screening. Before Beba, directed by Rebeca Hunt, we also saw a short film directed by a NYFA student. The event was organized as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration by The Center of West Park, in partnership with the New York Film Academy. Beba was wild, brave, beautiful and sad. After the screening, the directors were interviewed, and I felt sad for them and the organizers because there was such a small audience. It's hard to believe that even in a place like New York it can sometimes be difficult to reach the audience. I wish I had some reasonable questions to formulate, but I couldn't organize my feelings and thoughts, I was mesmerized and unable to communicate at that moment.

Summer 2023's Biggest Nail Trends Include Lavender Chrome and the Fancy French
The pros give us the rundown.
by ADELAIDE GIESEY
While the fashionistas of the world dust off their miniskirts and strappy sandals, us beauty lovers are plotting our nail ideas for the upcoming season. Summer is when we tend to get more creative and playful with our manicures, which means the more inspo you can find the better. So it only felt right to turn to the experts to see what they predict will be summer 2023's biggest nail trends.
“Last year, the trends seemed to focus more on the bolder, more neon colors, with hot pink being one of the colors of Summer 2022,” says Deborah Lippmann, brand founder and celebrity manicurist. “I think for this summer, we will see more of a shift into the your nails but better look.” This comes as no surprise with popular trends such as milky manis and glazed nails continuing to dominate both on and off the red carpet.
However, Mazz Hanna, CEO of Nailing Hollywood and celebrity nail artist, believes that no matter what the celebrities are doing you should find what speaks to your own unique style. “There are no rules when it comes to what colors or designs to do on your nails,” she says. “It’s all about what each person loves and makes you feel your best.”
Below, Lippmann and Hanna break down the seven nail trends they predict will be everywhere for summer 2023.
1.Pastel Polish
2. Your Nails But Better
“I think there is an elegance to having a natural nail look,” says Lippmann. “Subtle nails are becoming more 'on-trend' especially with the continuing clean girl aesthetic that has taken the space by storm in recent months.” She notes that the milky nail trend can also fall under this umbrella and suggests using a shade such as Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab Color ($20) in Like A Virgin to achieve that natural milky look.
3. 3D Nails
Celebrities like Dua Lipa, Lizzo, and Rhianna regularly wear nail art that gets multi-dimensional—and soon, so will you. “3D nails will continue to be popular throughout the summer, especially with all the innovation in the builder gel space,” says Hanna. She predicts this type of accent might even make its way into pedicures as the weather heats up.
4. Glazed Brights
“What is great about the glazed nail trend is that while it gained its popularity through a neutral glaze, it can be added to just about any manicure for that added shimmer,” says Lippmann. “So whether you want a bright pink or a subtle pink, anyone can take part in this trend.”
5. Fancy French
We’ve all welcomed the return of the French manicure, but according to Lippmann, expect to see a rise in colorful interpretations of the classic style. “The options are limitless from what color the base coat is, to what color the tip is,” she notes. “I have already seen some combinations of colorful french tips with added designs, and I think we will see more of the pastel or even floral takes on the french manicure this season.”
6. Blush Nails
Korean blush nails gained popularity in the US last fall, and according to Hanna the style is having a resurgence just in time for summer. Think of the trend as a fresh take on a sheer ombre pink—the color is concentrated in the center of the nail to give that blushing effect.
7. Almond Tips
An almond-shaped nail is a long oval shape with a soft point. It's very popular among those who choose to get extensions or tips since it pairs perfectly with nail art, but can also be achieved if your natural length is long enough. “I think it's very European and chic, and this is the nail shape I see being requested the most right now,” says Lippmann. Think of this as a slightly elevated version of your typical rounded shape.
8.Lavender Shades
There are summer shades and then there are signature summer shades. Both experts agree that lavender is going to be the color to take over our feeds this year. “People have added lavender to their neutrals list for the season and I think many will be loving a lavender manicure, and even adding designs or a chrome finish to elevate the look,” says Lippmann. Hanna also suggests easing into the shade with a soft ombre design.
