Do the Wrong Thing!
Here I am with the first part of “Let’s Listen to”, dedicated to last month’s featured band! Today’s subjects are the most recent singles by the visual kei band Pentagon, starting from the fifth one, Hankou seimei (Insubordinate declaration), come out on 7th February 2018. The concept of this release is doing the wrong thing, even if it is actually the right one. And now... let’s review!
-Hankou seimei: the single starts with the title-track, kicked off by a fast drumming which keeps up with a rapid rhythm put in an extravagant melody; the vocals are piercing and fast, for a catchy and quite simple song. ---> 8.5/10
-Yotogibana (Talking nocturne scenes): the first b-side starts with the sound of rain, leading up to an energetic and more positive theme, with a good guitar playing; Chizuru’s voice is clearer, in a song which maintains the good level brought up by the release. ---> 8.5/10
-Goodbye: the single ends with a song opened by a ticking clock; then the melody, dyed by a retrò shade, invests the whole thing, along with Chizuru’s light and electronic-ish vocals, where the theme develops gradually, in a playful and nostalgical track, quite easy to listen. ---> 8/10
Final Vote ---> 8/10
Pentagon is a band with many and various sides, which they draw from each time for each release. In Hankou seimei the band decided to going closer to their extravagant and freaking shade, even being lighter than their early times, an approach started two years before with Popcorn Monster. The final result is a single of an average quality, made of good performances and easy themes, made only of energy and fun, worth of this band’s unique world. If you are looking to something more compelling, you should lower your expectations here, as Pentagon wanted only to have fun with their audience, being successful in this mission. A single for who wants to listen to funny and catchy rock music, without a great technicality.
And it doesn’t end here...

Today I would include two of the Yorinuki ending themes. The other changes are more capricious and could change again (i.e., I'm still very fond of the ones that got bumped off the list this time around):
Reference post to the endings with title, number, number of episodes they cover, and a selected image.
12. Kagayaita (ending 12) 11. Wo Ai Ni (ending 14) 10. Nakama (ending 20) 9. Destiny (ending 23) 8. Sakurane (Yorinuki ending 4) 7. Samurai Heart (Some Like It Hot!) (ending 17) 6. Shura (ending 5) 5. Bokutachi no kisetsu (Yorinuki ending 1) 4. Wonderful Days (ending 15) 3. Hana Ichi Monme (ending 29) 2. Glorious Days (ending 25) 1. Acchi Muite (ending 26)
My top 12 Gintama ending themes as of right now
Like the list of opening themes I just posted, this one is also hideously subjective and very liable to change.
12. Mr Raindrop (ending 2) 11. Wo Ai Ni (ending 14) 10. Hikari Shoumeiron (ending 30) 9. Asa Answer (ending 13) 8. Destiny (ending 23) 7. Nakama (ending 20) 6. Samurai Heart (Some Like It Hot!) (ending 9) 5. Shura (ending 5) 4. Wonderful Days (ending 15) 3. Hana Ichi Monme (ending 29) 2. Glorious Days (ending 25) 1. Acchi Muite (ending 26)
#gintama ending themes#updated list#but i could easily have put asa answer or hankou seimei or mr raindrop as 11 or 12 instead#or hiksri shoumeiron or speed of flow or sanagi#you know when i made those posts a while back#for which ending theme each gintama character likes or would like the best#it gave me a new appreciation for ending themes i've overlooked because they're not my own top faves#but i started to see more in them then#ranking#gintama songs#this is the third recent edit#i keep exchanging EDs for the 12th spot

Pentagon’s "Good Bye" lyric video explores wintry heartbreak in manga form
It’s no secret that Pentagon will release single Culture Shock next year but before that let us go back a bit. On February 7, Pentagon released Hankou Seimei with the regular edition containing three songs in total. One of those songs was Good Bye and now its been turned into a manga lyric video complete…

Disease of Doubt
Here I am with a new review in the past in “Throwback Thursday”! Today’s subject is a release by the visual kei band The Thirteen, but this time we go back to their debut disc, the first album Pandemic, come out on 25th May 2016. The album’s concept is likely related to the dark image brought up by the band, where the title might mean a pandemic of doubt and uncertainity, which afflict our society. And now... let’s review!
-Pandemic Hazard: the album starts with a short track, introduced by an intense noise and dark electronic effects, where the strong metal melody makes up a good atmosphere.
-Cockroach [life and changes]: heavy rhythm kicks off this song, in a theme which accelerates more and more; the vocals are screamed and pretty aggressive, in a paced and adrenalinic track, even if short, which adds few to the general context. ---> 7.5/10
-Chainsaw [lack of justice]: the lead-track starts with a noisy guitar, leading up to a strong and quite electronic rhythm; Mao’s voice stays in an aggressive tone, bringing out even clearer notes in his interpretation; a good metal track, which introduces well the band’s sound. ---> 8/10
-Hankou seimei (Crime affirmation) [confessing own faults]: the song starts with a strong and steadier guitar and a beating rhythm, where the heavy component is always there, even in vocals, being more regular than expected; the song is good as expected, especially in showing Mao’s vocal versatility. ---> 8.5/10
-Jesus Christ’s Confession [Jesus’s life ---> reflection of each man]: this song features an articulated rhythm and a sinuous guitar, leading up to an aggressive theme, mainly driven by the drums; the vocals are adrenalinic, fit with the impressive techinque showed in the song. ---> 8.5/10
-Stupid [mankind’s stupidity]: another song with the heavy style, with a fast rhythm and psychedelic vocals, with a fast guitar improving the whole thing; the track is quite short but despite that is well performed. ---> 8/10
-13′s Blood [nightmares]: a relevant use of electronic effects distinguishes this song from the others of the same genre heard here; the vocals are dark and irregular are built up in a steady rhythm and an adrenalinic melody; a good song, where Mao’s versatility is once again highlighted. ---> 8.5/10
-Kamikaze [difference between good and evil]: this song starts with a beating rhythm and a strong and melodious guitar, in a more flowing and clear theme, even if it has something in common with the heavier ones; Mao’s versatility is seen in each vocal change he does in the song and even the melody reflects these changes, bringing out the first properly impressive song of the album. ---> 9/10
-Phantom Pain [rebellion]: an obscure introduction for the song, where the electronic effects are building up the atmosphere, bringing the album back to the heavy side; the drums are really relevant in the theme, driving an adrenalinic melody and giving to the track a fresh technical shade. ---> 8.5/10
-Friday Nightmare [horror movie ---> meaningless life]: fast drums kick off the song, accompaining a more rock’n’roll-ish guitar; the vocals are retrò, in an unusual interpretation; a song which falls between heavy and particular, another surprise of the album. ---> 9/10
-Starry Night [bright future against a violent world]: this song starts with a fast guitar and a paced rhythm, with some electronic effect; the vocals are extreme, featuring even clear notes, closer to an upbeat style; a pleasant and mixed track. ---> 8/10
-Abnormal Bullets [dreaming of an happy world]: a powerful rhythm kicks off the song, with a raging guitar and a bit exaggerated screamos; the song reprises all the elements of the band heavy’s formula, but emphasizes more the adrenaline and the darkness. ---> 8.5/10
-Killer May [light and darkness]: the album ends with a song featuring a fast and energetic rhythm, with a good drums work and a light and flowing guitar; Mao’s voice is clear and pretty pleasant, for a catchy and upbeat-ish theme, ending the album in a not-so-different key. ---> 9/10
Final Vote ---> 8.5/10
As most of you already know, the duo composed by Mao and Mizuki, named The Thirteen, came out on 2016 from the ashes of the acclaimed band Sadie, gone on an indefinite hiatus the year before. The spot left empty in the scene was huge and repeating the band’s great success was almost impossible, but two core members thought to get on a new challenge and this first album is a decent beginning for them. Pandemic reprises the heavy sonorities which characterized the duo’s past musical experience and adapted it in several ways, some more successful than others, leaving the spot even to a clearer side of their sound. In general the album is quite enjoyable for the fans of the genre, even if there’s something to polish in the arrangement of several tracks, a thing which the duo didn’t fail to accomplish in the following releases. If you want to start from the beginning with The Thirteen or simply to resume their music, this album is a good point to start from, a good basis for the improvement they would have got later. An album for who needs to know The Thirteen’s music or wants to listen to a decent heavy metal release.
That’s all folks! See you with a new band special in “Focusing on”!
Thanks for the reading!
