Tour de Fleece - day 07
As I said I am at my dad's atm so no wheel work. But we spent much time on the patio and i spun supported. And while watching a few documentaries with him i spun up all my fibre supply for my drop spindles.
Tumblr media
I plan to put more on the drop spindles before plying. But I'm done for today.
Plan for tomorrow: not much spinning. I will go to thw next big city, I need a few things from the Asian supermarket. So let's see what's possible.

What a cool variety of spinning tools! I have a basic drop spindle and a gorgeous wheel, but I will be one of these lovely hand spindles! ❤️❤️ 🧶🧵

Making some yarn for cat toys. This is some very lanolin-y and rough jacob that I think is perfect for my lanolin obsessed cat.
Roughly carded it (too much lanolin to card neatly, but who cares in this case). Spun into a thin singles on Geryon, my wheel. Then made a 2 ply bracelet with that and turned the ply bracelet into a 4 ply bracelet.

This is my favorite way to make 4 ply yarn now. One singles can be easily turned into 4 plies ready to spin this way. It isn't difficult to control, it only needs the one spindle/bobbin and your hand, and because it's not plied in between winding the bracelets it's not a cable ply, just a laid 4 ply.

Anyway, gonna give it a little wash just to bloom the yarn and then make cat toys and stuff them with catnip.

24 yards total of bulky weight. Should be just enough ?

This summer I wanted to try clasped spinning with a distaff, but I didn't want to pay for international shipping couldn't find any spindles here in Belgium. So I made my own.
I could have used chopsticks. I could have gone to the hardware store. I did the fun thing and whittled them out of branches from the garden.
Some of them work pretty well, but I haven't been able to find a position yet that doesn't make my hand cramp, so I haven't gotten a lot of practise in. They're cute though.

Tour de fleece? In july?
My vacation starts on the 6th and I'll be at the Wollfest in Kassel on the 9th... soooo I guess my vacation starts with spinning and spinning and spinning and turning my fibre stash into a yarn stash! Creative vacation!

second round of experiments with catyarn, and i think spinning it fresh off the cat is definitely the way to go. much much easier - i suspect putting it in a tub and leaving it made it felt a little.
my current plan is to just spin whatever i brush off of her, as soon after i brush it off of her as possible, on my spindle. i’m having much more luck with a thin, consistent spin on the spindle (but that might just be because it’s fresh).
next things i want to test i think are a) whether spinning it fresh on a wheel is as easy and fine/consistent as on a spindle, b) whether you can wash it pre-spinning without it felting, and c) if there’s any way of processing it that doesn’t felt it (probably involving higher dpi carders or maybe heckles or something? or a diz? if anyone’s got experience processing angora, lmk as that’s the closest fibre to cat hair that i’ve found).
