Long time follower first time asker lol hehe, I love how vessel makes lil shapes with his hands instead of the hearts!! but I don't think st or even vessel does things without thought, everything has a meaning. So I noticed that his hand shapes are similar to the shape of the image of the Jaws song art so maybe he's doing that?

The truth is, there are some theories here about what could he possibly be doing. I've seen that one - the Jaws symbol; I've seen people speculating it's actually a W in Eden Cypher (looks like ♦️) for "Worship".

My previous theory was that he just gets so overwhelmed at the moment, that his hands shake way too much to hold any coherent shape (although I'm not super into that thought anymore). He has done some pretty solid-ish 🫶 in the past, so who knows what he's doing.

(i'm assuming you're asking this because of my previous post - that was a info i needed to FINALLY announce the Wembley Bingo results lmao. I am posting that right now - almost a month later 💀)

hey hi hello! i'm so sorry it's taking me so long to post part 2 🙇🏻‍♀️ thank you and everyone else for your patience, i really appreciate it, you have no ideaaa 💕

I had a couple of things pop up that made me sorta put my art and the comic on hold. Namely, some health stuff and a brief period where maybe I had burnt out slightly(?) and everything I was drawing wasn't turning out quite right (though it could also just be that my skills likely aren't up to par with how I would hope for this to look 😵‍💫) so I took a week or two off to shake off the art block.

Then my friend introduced me to the Magic Poser app last week which has been a SAVING GRACE for a good chunk of the things I had been struggling with and it's gotten me back on track with part 2 in the last few days (bless her 🙌)

I'm hoping that I'll finally be able post part 2 sometime next week now that I'm back on a roll with this (and now that my health finally seems to be cooperating with me once again lol) 💗

i would like you to yap about your diya nine images choices!!

then yap i shall anon!!

starting from the bottom-left: fear, concealment, the feeling of being surveilled and hunted. these things define diya’s life whether she’s in the circle tower, with the wardens or in kirkwall. someone is always watching and someone is always prepared to swing the sword.

middle-left: the book as a shield. as a way to understand the world & how to protect herself from it. as a way to make herself appear meeker. as a way to obscure her origin in the alienage. one of the pages bleeds into the tip of the sword on the top left to represent how how knowledge might also serve as a weapon to be used against others. blackmailer!diya is real in all universes i think.

another thing i love about that image on the top-left is that she is the sword but not the one wielding it. it’s a great representation of how diya approaches her power. she is all too happy to use her power to serve others, because that means she hasn’t crossed the line herself. it feels safer to her, even if what she’s doing might be terrible.

(when she is using her power for herself or acting as the power behind the throne, this is instead a reflection of her public image. the sword of the monarch rather than the mage ruling over man. the similarities with the imagery of the templars’ armour also not accidental)

the veil in the top-middle reflects a similar truth in how there’s always some distance & distortion between diya and the image of herself she’d like for others to see. in the original photo the folds of the veil also give the impression of tear tracks. with diya, her “soft hearted” act is a big part of the mask she wears.

of course, in kirkwall!diya verse, alistair and ylva encounter her in survival mode and get a to see what’s beneath that mask…. which is best represented by the image on the top-right. she’s always searching out weaknesses in others when she smells a hint of blood. she’s sharp and observant and capable of being more than a little cruel. there’s an instinct to become the monstrous thing others see her as.

(ylva sees the potential there, and sharpens the edge of that blade while trying to give her rage an outlet. unfortunately when ylva sells anders out to the templars, there is no one left to hold the leash :’) just alistair, who’s at the lowest point he’s ever been and more likely to prick himself on that blade than to point it at anyone else…)

diya’s not immune to the dangers posed by those instincts either! that’s what the alignment of the center-middle and bottom-middle images is trying to evoke. blood magic has always been a tool and a practical one for diya (more on this later) she feels she’s in control, that she doesn’t have a problem. except that the line of what’s “safe” and acceptable can always be moved and exceptions can be justified. when diya is left to define these limits without oversight (as a deserter or as warden commander) it’s a precarious position!

hopping over to the bottom-right, the burning figure represents a memory from the purge of the denerim alienage when she witnessed a mother trying to get her kid to safety, even after the flames had already taken her. it’s an image that evokes both horror and rage. it’s also an image that ties to her very early disillusionment with the chantry. the symbol of a woman on a pyre is hard to find inspiration in when she heard the shemlen’s cheers while elven women burned alive in their homes.

of course as a dreamer…… the purge also gave lots of fuel to demons that sought her out in the fade. a particular spirit of rage has worn the shape of that woman for years now, and never strays too far from diya’s dreams. hence the smoke from the fire forming a path towards the (shattered) eluvian into the fade.

the vividness of the dreams and the attention of all the demons used to really trouble her growing up. it was one of her old mentors in the tower, uldred, that taught her that blood magic dulled a mage’s connection with the fade, and that it might lessen the attention of spirits by making her presence appear weaker. and it did work!

it’s part of why she sees the blood magic as a non-issue because her initial introduction to it wasn’t for power at all, but to weaken her abilities as a dreamer. of course, when she starts using it more than just small amounts of her own blood to maintain that effect, why she started using it starts to matter less & less.

YOU GET IT!!! i think about this quote so so often and i try my best to make this philosophy a part of how i interact with people and handle disappointment (in my own actions and that of others). i think we’re often to quick to make judgments and stifle growth and change by denying people to even get the chance to grow and change……. ofc there are instances where you have to cut off certain people or set boundaries or admit that a situation is not going to change, but i think this idea of giving people one more chance than others are willing to grant them is definitely closely aligned with the compassion mindset i think our society desperately needs.
