I agree with you on the disability aspect (in fact, the way her rumor was twisted to take away her disability was very interesting commentary), but representation isn’t all that goes into the appeal of a character.
It’s just that her story doesn’t include anything with any other character and she doesn’t even have a motive (for the world I mean). I don’t think she’s effective as an antagonist (the role she was meant to fill), her story has nothing to do with anything in the established cannon and doesn’t add anything going forward. I guess the only other reason I don’t like her was because she doesn’t matter; I feel the same way about Yako, but I’m singling out no. 4 because she’s so popular.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, they opened my eyes and honestly helped me get mine in order
MY controversial opinion is that I DON'T like no. 4... well I do but I just like her. Not the way 'like' is used in fandom talk. I can't really explain this but it's just... she's not a threat? she's the Mary Sue author blank-canvas insert and everyone loves her because she's the nice artist one who just wanted the best for everyone the whole time.

Anime I think each of the Host Club members would like:
Tamaki - Your Lie in April - Classical music, young love, the focus on the piano, and the touch of devastation? He’s grabbing the tissues and holding Haruhi extra tight the next time he sees her. He watches it every April.
Kyoya - Death Note - It’s secretly a partial autobiography, but the ending had to be changed with Light getting caught because if he wasn’t, then people would be on the hunt for Kyoya, and between Tamaki, the Host Club, and being the best in class, he doesn’t want the Japanese police force annoying him too.
Haruhi - Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san - This is a very lowkey and chill anime based on the real life experiences of the author. I think Haruhi would jive with the low intensity, big bookworm vibes, “are you shitting me right now?” experiences. Haruhi could probably relate on some level with being in the Host Club. It’s her favorite series to have on in the background while cleaning.
Hikaru - Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun - Hanako-kun is a little shit, and so is Hikaru. The colors are bright, the antics are funny, and there are also a few intense moments he would get wrapped up in.
Kaoru - Sword Art Online - Kaoru would enjoy the initial video game/virtual reality setup of the anime, and would get sucked in by the characters passing levels and moving through the game. He can describe in detail every arc to anyone who dares ask, and by less than halfway through, the person doesn’t bother to ask him if there are any other anime he likes. (Which is all according to plan, because he’s also a big romance fan, but he needs to keep up his image. He’s obsessed with Toradora)
Honey - Attack on Titan - Is it cute and cuddly? No. But does it feature a badass short guy who absolutely wrecks everyone’s shit and is known for being the World’s Strongest? Yes. Dispel the thought that Honey is only into cutesy things.
Mori - Demon Slayer! - The animation and the colors are insaaane, add to that all of the different fighting techniques? Mori’s hooked. He has a crush on the butterfly girl, Shinobu Kocho (but honestly, who doesn’t).
Bonus - Renge - Fruits Basket - She envisions herself as Tohru, though this girl would NOT be able to survive outside in a tent, bathing in the river. But all the male characters and very few female characters? Yaaaah, she’s happy with this show. Bonus x 2 - her favorite is Ayame.

The Fake Confession Scene
This is a love letter to my favourite scene in the anime + manga, the scene that sold Hananene to 14 year old me, and got me reading the manga after 3 long years of forgetting about it. Let it be known, no words are able to express my love for this scene, but that doesn't mean I won't try.
.
I am obviously not fully blaming Hanako or saying the misunderstanding was fully on his side, but he still apologised because impact > intent. Hanako hung out with Yashiro long enough to know that love is a big deal to her, and when he sees her cry, the gravity of his actions finally sink in. He realised not only that he made a girl cry (headcanon of old fashioned Hanako is thriving right now), he just ruined Yashiro's first time being confessed to.
Knowing what we know now, it's obvious Hanako doesn't care about his friends as much as he does in the recent chapters. Not only that, he is a very prideful person (despite hating himself), so for him to be so ashamed of himself and his actions in that moment really adds more weight to it. His apology is more heart warming and sincere than his fake confession, and not to sound like a broken record, but seeing how he was so ashamed he couldn't even look Yashiro in the eyes makes it a thousand times better.
.
This is an eye-opening moment for Yashiro as well, and a defining moment in their relationship, since she begins to see Hanako in a new light. This vulnerable, gentle side of him made her want to learn more about him. Her opinion of him has changed so drastically not only because he took off his hat (which alone is a constant reminder that he comes from a different time), but she saw him feel shame, regret, human emotions. A big part of what makes us human is our sensibility which can also make us recognise our mistakes and learn from them, thus evolving (is it obvious my favourite subject in school is philosophy ?)
Yashiro is reminded that before being "Hanako-San of the toilet", he was a person, just as alive as her. This was shocking enough on its own, but what really shook her to her core is learning from Tsuchigomori later on that dying so young was never his fate. Despite being in a dark place during his childhood, Amane had a bright future waiting for him. Had he not altered his fate, "Yugi Amane" would have just been her science teacher, not the eternally 13 year old boy that she desperately wanted to know more about.
.
While this is the first time those two share a heart to heart, there is still something between them, literally and figuratively. Figuratively, we're talking about a friendship/romance between a living girl and a ghost, it is bound for heartbreak. Literally, when Hanako pulls Yashiro in to hug her, the gate separates them. Hanako remains inside the school grounds he is confined to, and Yashiro has already crossed the threshold to go outside into the world of the living, and Hanako is holding her back.
This parallels a moment in the picture perfect arc when Hanako comforts Yashiro and promises he would save her. While his words are sweet and he is comforting her again as she is crying, he is hugging her through the bars of the cell he put her in. Hanako is putting a distance between the two of them, both voluntarily and involuntarily.
They both intrigue each other, and this is the moment that starts it all. Yashiro's curiosity and Hanako's inexplicable concern/affection for Yashiro would only grow into something else from this point onwards, and there was no need for it to be put into words (ignore that this is exactly what I just did)

Hello, first I just wanted to say that I love your posts and the way you talk about tbhk ❤️Secondly, I know that this question has no relevance to the chapters that are happening, but I'm curious to see your perspective. Do you think Nagisa kunishige-san (the man who attended Tiara festival) will cross paths with Hanako in the future? Or that Kou's father might show up at school? If so, how do you imagine their reactions?P.S: Keep up the good work
I'm kind of hoping Kunishige and Tiara will simply clean up the mess in the school itself either while (somehow...) or after time is done being frozen, because I don't want us to have to bother .... ! I can't really see how dealing with gathering all 1 billion sakara petals out of students eye balls would be necessary to See or contribute to the story, so ... I could see them being our janitors. Clean everything up so we can cut to the chase with the final festival scenes with living 12 year-old Tsukasa and Nene-chan. PERSONALLY, I wouldn't want to go from punching a bunch of owls, to punching an old man, to punching a bunch of trees page by page ... and AidaIro tend to spare us chains of action/fightan, since this is a HEARTFELT toilet manga...
I really actually loved how the Far Shore arc did NOT waste tons of chapters on "what happened to Akane & Teru facedown in that puddle???" and answered all of that in just a few quick wrap-up panels, in the form of Aoi explaining to Nene-chan what happened (which is also, a cute and character-building thing for the girls to share, I much prefer that). It also left plenty of hanging threads to pick up later (not knowing how Akane/Teru got Aoi's soul back from the far shore)...
I've talked about Kunishige and Hanako meeting here. But basically it could go absolutely any way, they could recognize or not recognize, only one of them could recognize, they could care they could not care, they could be irrelevant, they could be gravely relevant, we just don't have enough information. There is nothing to theorize....
daddy could show up at any time and it gives me ulcers... I don't want more Minamoto crap so soon... on top of kunishige and tiara, that's simply too many people in 1 room, I would think it should be spaced out .... he should wait a minute... what a pain it would be to draw panels that full... don't make Aida-sensei draw so many non-shotas at once like that... he should come around while we are dealing with Mitsuba or something and Kou is having a crisis... *wearing a T-shirt that says I DONT CARE ABOUT NOT HANANENETSUKA*
I imagine if Hanako had to see Minamoto dad he would be like, "ugh, another one? why... " like you would seeing another bedbug crawl out of a crack in the wall. everyone get out of my jurisdiction ugh... too many of them... in my school...

some thoughts on Hanako & The Terror of Allegory
On a Discord server I'm in, some folks are doing a manga-swap challenge. I have six manga from this challenge to read in 2024, and I've just finished the first one. I don't have enough thoughts to warrant a full review, but I did want to say a few things.
This is Hanako & The Terror of Allegory. Also called Hanako & The Teller of Allegory---the name has an intentional double meaning that doesn't translate super well, I think.
This one is pretty obscure, it was recommended to me by my buddy AftershockWolf (@theokamiproject).
To be honest, I didn't love it. The series is in that "urban legend horror" genre, of a sort that's since been perfected by the likes of Otherside Picnic or, say, something like Mysterious Disappearances (which, that's getting an anime next season, isn't that weird?). The innate disadvantage something like this has is because there's such a small pool of source material, it can very much feel like you've read every take on every idea before, and furthermore, this manga is from 2004 (into 2005. Ran for about a year, from what I can tell), so I've seen a lot of different spins on the stories it mines for most of its chapters---Hanako of the Toilet, Mary the Doll, Kokkuri-san, Red Paper / Blue Paper, the Slit-Mouthed Woman, etc.---and in many cases I've seen them done better. Again, it's kind of unfair to this manga since it was written quite a while ago, so I suppose you'd call this a case of something aging poorly.
It's also bad in a few other more mundane ways; the sense of humor is absolutely daft as fuck, lots of very basic stock jokes with zero originality to them. Most of these were getting old in 2004. Reading them 20 years later makes them kind of insufferable. Occasionally it'll be funny *by accident*, but that's a different thing and doesn't really count IMO.
It's also not actually great at really getting under my skin in the way that the truly great stuff in this genre (again like Otherside Picnic) can, and has a bad habit of pulling plot twists out of its ass when it doesn't really need to. Most of this will not stick with me, and to top it all off the art is very middle of the road and of its time. Although there are occasional cool splash panels that make up for that somewhat.
However, all is not lost. The weakpoints of this manga are mostly not that interesting, what is interesting is where it goes in its final act, where it introduces a (to my knowledge) completely-original antagonist, and the manga starts essentially collapsing in on itself as the characters very directly fight for control of the narrative against said antagonist, a villainous authorial figure who herself might not really exist. It's a rather sudden shift, but it's a welcome one, and I think if more of the manga had been like this I would probably have enjoyed it a lot more.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this series got axed from whatever magazine it was running in, and that's the culprit for the swift change in direction, but in this case it saves a bad manga from itself and makes reading the thing not a complete loss. Also, said character is attractive, I'll say it. (Wolf happened to tell me that this character was the whole reason they recommended me the manga. Given that she carries this last arc hard, I will say that was a good call.)
If you can put up with everything I mentioned in order to get to the fairly compelling final act, I might tentatively recommend it, since Terror of Allegory here is only 19 chapters long. Still, I don't think anyone's hugely missing out by not reading this thing, the genre has evolved *a lot* over the past 20 years and this is not exactly a foundational release.
Interesting side note; on the scanlation page the translator actually recommends a few similar works, one of which is the MUCH better Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, which came out only a few years after this. Another reminder that even at the time this was solidly middle of the pack.

Could you rank the covers please?
haiiiiiiii, wakaru 👏 ikimashou
let's start with least favorites and work our way up, how 'bout.
starting with... this.
i could not care less-!!! it's kinda funny. nothing about the pose or colors or anything makes me feel much. i think mitsuba's school mystery outfit is busted lol, he feels like he has a bunch of stuff glued onto him. a bit too busy and silly for me to take seriously. his bones... his, eyeballs and little mirrors. feathers kinda like, bits n pieces stuck in his hair. i know you didn't choose to look like this mitsuba but it doesn't change the fact that i'm not into it... sorry.
it probably doesn't help that every time i'm reading PP i'm like god. get these clowns out of here-!! they're interrupting the DRAMA... feel like i'm asleep for their parts of this arc. so for them to get a cover is like sigh, whatever. it ruins the flow of all the amane focused ones lol... i wish i lived in the world where every PP volume had amane and nene on it. [thinks...] i would even sooner let shijima-san take one cover tho, if it had to be interrupted. just not this. -_-
next up...
i don't like kou. kinda repulsed by his pelvis zone here. big ugly guy huge forearms. i think i look cool in this image and the bg being black / there being a lot of gold present makes it more visually appealing than the previous cover. but only by so much.
i think it's kinda funny i have fangies and crazy swirly eyes. does it have to do with what vol 4 is... about? [pause...] hm... whose to say lol. it's funny, regardless.
this is.... neutral territory. i don't feel much about it. i'd say toilet trio illusts in general are very, snzz, i sleep. they can only be so interesting... it's sorta like seeing 'stock art' of a series, the things that go on t-shirts and cut-outs. Here are the characters. yep... nothing wrong with that, but nothing to be felt, past a point. esp when everyone is just big smiles or something, facing the audience. this doesn't really convey who they are as individuals, or their dynamic, even.
a part of me almost wishes someday there wouldn't be a need for depictions like this. i'd prefer seeing these 3 in a more grounded scene, if anything. [shitty amane voice] anyways.
now here's a few that are like. nothing felt. but i don't hate them. but it's like Lol.... there's genuinely nothing to be said. hearts nene is the cutest one here? let's go with that.
*amused huff* an image like this, i get the impression that i'm not the target demographic (genuine fujoshi...) so it's pretty logical it doesn't make me feel much. not the drawing's fault, really.
also, when akane is all bishie'd out in clock keeper mode, i can't feel anything about that. but he's not as ugly as kou to me. just wearing a funny outfit ig. meanwhile, hanako looks like a crazy whore. to a degree where it's funny? this is my mental image for what it's like when i suck off my brother. in this way, it has value.
the actual composition, colors used etc. is fine. neutral.
i kinda have a funny relationship with vol 1's cover. in 2020, when the anime released, people were posting gifs etc. of the OP (you know what part of the OP.) the only other thing i saw from the series, aside from that gif, was vol 1's cover. organically, my response to seeing these things in concert, was: "uhh, no thanks lol…" dismissing the series as, perhaps, a bit too shota-yaoi-gnarsty for someone like me… i look at too much porn on pixiv also, so i'm sort of... literate. when it comes to... shotacons. and this is the sort of image pings... a certain flavor... makes me go... "hmm… no… i don't need toilet-fuck-prisoner-skank-ghost-shota, thank you..." (not a value judgment. i'm just more of an oneeshota guy. normal heterosexuality swag.)
anyways, it's purely incidental that this was all i had seen. along with tons of your run of the mill "tsukasa tormenting amane" fanarts... it gave me such a particular impression of the series.
that being said, i never found this cover bad looking or anything. in fact, the style was pretty appealing-? (the style doesn't have to be bad for you to go, that's not my genre of porno ww) now that i've actually read it and love the series, i can say that vol 1 almost has this classic stink to it. it's just so effective. it's not wrong to look at this and think: shotacon bait manga. it absolutely is, lol. & i suppose my first instincts still weren't wrong. again, i'm not the target demographic.
now this is. a bit closer to being For Me. i am now within the target demographic. but it also kinda makes me angry 💔... like i'm being bullied, a bit. you know some images are a bit too gormlessly horny... like, even for me. oooh. nene-chan's being fed this cake. mmm, open up... frosting all over us.. her ankles bound, her pussy barely not visible. and this, mysterious inexplicable knife stabbing a mini heart. it's all like. [stoically] Ok...
you hand this to a 13 yo bird though, i think he'd be spellbound. ohhhhh. what is this...? so colorful... and if he opened the volume and saw that little alice in wonderland illust of nene between the twins + nene's teaparty outfit... he'd be like mrghhh.... *sucks up gravy*
same goes for vol 2's cover.
you hand this to teen bird, it's pure catnip. though i prefer it to the last one, due to the more... noncon lean. and ofc, just being hananene...~
the way nene is posed, the rope, the frills of her uniform, her crying. hanako looking like some scary vampire captor, about to whisk her away. flanked by the knife and scissors... ohhh. what's going to happen to her...? ⬅ i'm already checking this out of the library before this thought can fully crystalize.
it's not quite as lush or impressive as some of aida-sensei's other illusts though. i think her earliest art is most charming in the manga panels themselves. illusts like this, the bodies feel a little too evened out, to me. not so strong colors. mind you, still nice looking. and again with nene's pussy so nearly visible. Well thanks.
vol 3 is always like... *smiles weakly* mmmm. aida-sensei... i accept who you are. i do... i know you kinda can't help it, in some ways. but it's a shame this isn't more... IC... on tsuchigomori's end. i think this image skews a lot of the perception of tsuchigomori's rship with amane, which i dislike, because their rship in canon is... amusing. and tsuchigomori is a weak loser. but i understand what people typically want out of teacher/student. i leave the humble fujo be.
that aside, i'm a fan of everything else. dusky colors, moody expressions. tsukasa's hands reaching out and cupping amane's face. yes... lovely. it was a fun era, when alluding to tsukasa was best done through hands reaching out. something from the past, coming to haunt. i like amane's hat being off... the glass triangles used to show memories, the ropes, the tsubaki. we love imagery, guys.
these next few are like, "i love my wife" (ignores other person.)
i like tsukasa here. a girlie that goes, nyarrrr! fun and minxy, ever the delight to see. all the pinks and reds, the rosy color of the 'seal' kanji... hi sweetie. *blows a kiss* good luck doing your job.
i really like nene in this outfit. i suppose it finally makes you go "oh" about how she has pale hair and red eyes / and how this suits the typical miko white/reds. i'm actually glad we got to see it in a cover. she's all decked out... ornate... frills, draping fabric, big bow. flanked by flowrse and bells. fancy girlie.
i'm more aligned to shoujo manga and such, actually, so an image like kinda lights up the same part of my brain. a feeling like, "i know it well"... girls posed like dolls, together. classic.
you know me, idgaf about kou. but this girl is distinctly gorgeous. i love greyyyy as a background, and how she's composed of pallid colors. her tights feel so stark black. and then the soft yellow and orange in the flowers... ooh. she's really incredible. if it was a nene-only cover, this would be probably one of my absolute favorites. for severance, too, the vibes are flawless. dreary, drained.. enervated feeling girl. she's delicate. love love love.
we're entering a notable jump in favoritism. ⬆ all these prior covers had things like, details i was indifferent towards, or entire characters i wished weren't there/found neutral. ⬇ these next ones are closer to, 'i wouldn't change this, i like who is here'
auhhh... hakusumi... we're so lucky to have a cover dedicated to them. one of my favorite volumes, too, in terms of literal events. i like this pose and the contrast of their expressions... sumire's eyes always feel like they're purposefully kinda, intense and creepy. i think hakubo is appropriately passive... below... but pawing up at her. i really love sumire's hand splayed on his chest too~ kya. vivid purbles... touches of greem... quite nice.
I like these all about the same amount. I look cool in them. Which is nice, because this arc is mostly about me.
i'm simple... i enjoy the duality of amane and hanako. i think PP does a good job at playing with this divide in living self / current ghost self, what it means to have been this. what is the authentic self? what does he really feel? it's even more convoluted when you have hanako functionally RP'ing as his past self.
i like how hanako has more of a severity to him, in these side-by-sides. amane is supposed to be the one who is just a normal boy, 'before tragedy', so he's all smiles. but isn't it funny, with how nene sees past amane as miserable and current hanako as cheery, smiley smiley...? he's a complicated guy, isn't he.
i'm a fan of the colors of vol 9. excitable telescope boy. then, the kinda, paint-splotch feeling details at the ends of his legs, fun allusion to the painting-in-progress world. for vol 11's original cover, i like the stark white bg for hanako. his expression... it's one of those expressions that makes me think aida-sensei is a wizard. how is she doing that...? he looks crazy... but it's so subtle. he also kinda feels like he's about to bite his lip? this + the fingers threaded over rope... a lot. his companion amane meanwhile just feels crazy in a different way, as a result.
handsome coolness abound. ty sensei.
hehehe. 20 is just so ffffffffun! tsukasa giving major "the puppet master that cursed your dick" energy. dark eyes and lidded gaze... seeing the ropes threading around his fingertips is just so fun. they're often off-screen, or blooming from within characters, so i like to see them so decidedly coming from tsukasa. he's orchestrating so much, it's so appropriate, isn't it-!? we owe a lot to him.
i was looking forward to sakura finally getting a feature on a cover. her listless expression and limp body works well with this all. contrast with tsukasa seated somewhat to the side, flanking her. it's cute that these are the colors that mean "spring!" in japan. and aida-sensei has put out so many spring-themed illusts featuring pinks and greens this year. so festive.
it all comes to roost then, in this cover. touches of green in tsukasa's spooky corpse fingertips. the pink all around is giving Femininity, as much as it's giving... sickness... feverishness... i like how sakura's uniform and tsukasa's hakama are a similar shade. pleats and frills... yes yes. i suppose this cover is doing more for me, in the "two pretty girls posed together like dolls" department. it's more on the unhinged side. love love.
these two... they make me stunned by aida-sensei's ability to make an image is simply so... beautiful? fills me with such yearning. i wish i could make something half this good, ahaha. i must drink in these images...
they showcase some softer feeling amanes. crazy boys in prev volumes are fun, but they're not really playing off of the right energy, to me. (not at their full potential yet...?) meanwhile, covers like these, i think the execution is perfect. here's the boy... your title boy. i'm forced to understand why my wife finds me to be handsome, ig.
the illust for the pilot release feels so sweet. like aidairo themselves are fond of their initial pitch still. to include aspects of his old design (like, no thick trim on the gakuran) within aida's more modern style is very cool. translucent... ghostie boy. you know him well. all the flowers frame him nicely.
for the far shore/severance situation, it's quite fascinating to see amane like this. amidst all the madness... i think it's a good follow up to the red house also. this... is the guy we're trying to get back to. the paper lantern he's holding is such a simple yet wonderful detail also. idk... he's really a japanese ghost. he really on "the other side"... in a procession, with the other spirits. and i love the abstract bits of buildings and vehicles floating about, representing the far shore. the sunset orange clouds and bright blue sky... sugoi.
this one makes me feel so simple. sometimes, you just have wife emotions. (i have 4 yo tsu as my bg on tumblr & my pc...💞) i love you BAY-BEEE!!! you're so special to me!! kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss.
this to me is almost like, the blessed version of "this reeks of a shotacon" lolll... cuz now we're at an age range/size that i'm like YEAH!! OOUEHH!!! FUN!!!!!!! BOLD! INTERESTING!! SHOW ME MORE!? i love to see TOYS and DOLLIES, yeahhh! a toy piano!! a robot!! lil cars!! bouncy ball!!! rocky horse! YES!! IT'S ALL THE THINGS!!
center stage, we have tsukasa preciously holding his teddybear. the ripped seams and overflowing stuffing... his lil suspenders and shorts. the thick, vibrant red socks! weewoo. i would say it's a perfectly executed piece. straightforward. welcome to the toy room! it's bright and colorful and a little ominous... don't you want to know more about this lil guy-!? don't you just wanna scoop him into your arms. yes, of course you do!! come on in...
this is probably my absolute favorite volume also... it's so concentrated... i just love this arc sf much. 9.9 the volume sleeve illusts + contents page are perfect. this random illust of hanako that the volume opens up with is very sick & twisted, he scares me. but i also love it very much. and then the first pages are tsukasa asking to play. 10/10... love the whole package. this cover is like a ribbon on top of it all.
[scuffs shoe... gets small.] [hides under my hat.]
... 💦 ... .. .. .... ..... 💦💦 ... ... ............... ..
girlfriend. emotions. (these are somehow different than wife emotions.) she's... resplendent... i don't deserve her... idk, it's hard. to talk about this one, gomen, if this comes out awkwardly.
but it's... just. really pretty. after the whole PP, hurts to look at. the biiiig moon in the sky. dreamy lil stars. the red of her eyes... and for nene to be threading both her hands over his, while red rope binds them together... wonderful. i like how the ropes perfectly kiss with 'red string of fate'... also this all gives me OT3 feels. (tsukasa often symbolized by the moon...) overall, does a great job at conveying the climax of this many-volume arc.
it's a lovely image. and the odd angle to amane's face is inspiring for me, also. i wanna be able to properly represent the huuuge eyes and lil muzzles that the characters in JSHK have. they feel like my little ponies... i must learn how to capture this...
[getting even smaller. ragged.] [sighhhhing forlornly, leaning out a window.] it's my favorite cover. but also, it's my favorite inner sleeve illust... so i must include it. hopefully, you'll understand me, as you see them side-by-side.
the cover, though... it's got it all, i guess. intimacy. atmosphere. expressions are loaded. the hand to yashiro's face... her nape visible. the stars, the lights, the summer night vibe, due to tanabta. yashiro decorated in tsubaki, in her beautiful yukata. the big fanciful bow obi. the air feels thick, humid. gorgeous... wouldn't change a thing.
i love all that tanabta encapsulates. ooh. it's the peak of it all... we're star-crossed lovers, aren't we. reaching through streams of time to meet one another. the indulgence of the age gap... nene onee-san... choosing to meet her again, over dreaming of the future. that's how it always works, right...? love always supersedes any vague wishing of a, career, or w/e... flimsy, in comparison. [i use my severe tone and lots of eye contact to convey that this alludes to the choice to die with tsukasa vs grow up and be an astronaut.]
in the chapter itself, we see that hanako vaguely has some... feeling... memory... of nene's forehead kiss. and i think that's conveyed in the cover, too~ it feels like he can't resist a pull. memories... a long-existing crush, incubating...~ how long has this girl been haunting you...
woof, the romance that oozes from it all... it makes me feel so soooo simple. i like that aidairo can be so... earnest? about it all? we're tying key romantic events with our main couple, to THE romantic festival.. yayaya... yes.... thank you...
all this. all this! and knowing the yugi are running around, eating cotton candy, playing with sparklers, late into the night... we really can have it all, can't we?

Inside the character: Hanako-kun
Sup people! ✌️ Today I want to start doing some “Inside the characters” posts. It’s just me analyzing but in a more deep way (?)
Anyways, enjoy! (Manga spoilers!)
🌺 Hanako-kun
And how I couldn’t start from one of the main characters of JSHK: Hanako-san Of The Toilet also known as Amane Yugi.
The character of Hanako is known for being a slimy and perverted ghost who likes to make, most of the time, stupid little jokes. However, it’s clearly implied that this teasy yet childish part of him is just a facade in order to hide what he really feels. This behavior is commonly used by people who think that they can handle everything without anyone pitying them: in fact, the people who behave like that usually avoid to make it seem they’re weak and would just pretend to be strong and going through everything with a firm smile, no matter if it means smiling at the worst situations, too.
(Chapter 27 reference)
We see, Hanako fakes his emotions a lot through the manga, when he smiles or when he’s having fun... just like he did with Yashiro. He knew she was going to die from the beginning yet he pretended it was nothing, he pretended to not care (as he states in Picture Perfect Arc)
(Chapter 57 reference)
making her live her last days in the best way possible even though, we all know, he was desperately lying to himself; he just dealed with it silenty like he used to back when he was alive: bottling his pain up.
(Chapter 27 reference)
Hanako is a difficult and reserved character, we never know what he’s thinking, we never know if he’s genuinely saying the truth or just lying... most importantly, we don’t know the reasons which leads him to use such extreme methods without discussing it with the others: doing everything by himself, no help at all.
(Chapter 71 reference)
But I think I might have an explanation of the reason why he doesn’t consult anyone regarding his decisions: Hanako, from when he was a little kid, was always used to deal with loneliness.
As we see in the Star Festival Arc:
(Chapter 38 reference)
As we see in the lyric of Tiny Light: “I’m embraced by loneliness” supposing Hanako is singing that to Yashiro (it could be since the lyric sounds like from Hanako’s POV)
(“Tiny Light” JSHK ED - on YouTube)
And as we see in a few glimpses of his past:
(Chapter 14 references)
Also, his whole existence as a ghost was made of loneliness before he met Yashiro.
No one to talk with, no one by his side. Sadly, this led him to the thought of relying only on himself, no one else. Judging by his family situation back when he was alive, his parents were likely absent or just didn’t care about what happened to him... he didn’t even have his parents’ support, neither his brother’s since (we still don’t know) he might be the person who was doing such bad things to him. But actually, Tsukasa is known to be a carelessly free spirit who would leave alone his brother for HOURS (just like at the Star Festival Arc), showing to not really care whether his brother was okay or not. So, I believe mostly in the second option: Tsukasa shows his “not caring side” to Hanako most of the time which is really painful though. To think how many times Hanako had to deal with his emotions completely alone, bottling them up, not letting out, every single day.
On the other hand, Tsuchigomori-sensei offered him his help and complete support since he wanted to know who was the person that was treating Hanako like garbage. However, Hanako refuses to tell the attacker stating it was fine, he could forgive it all.
(Chapter 14 references)
Putting the facade even in front of the sensei with the famous quote «it’s alright, no need to worry for me», hinting that Hanako’s loneliness was growing so much at the point of even refusing the teacher’s help, it seems like he says: «It’s not that I’m not used to this, I can handle it, I always handled it after all.» WAAAAAH IT’S SO SAD 😭
So yeah, when a person continues to bottle everything up and tends to be embraced by loneliness, it likely turns out as the Hanako we see right now who makes decisions without any help, because he thinks he’s choosing the best way since he never had a proper confrontation of opinions with anyone, neither in the afterlife, neither in his past life.
To me this whole thing is so depressing, how Hanako is unhappy, how he never had friends or just a person who could open up with, how he had to deal with loneliness, stuck in a black hole with no exit... Yashiro is his only hope, right now. I really wish for him to open up with Yashiro and let out everything that he’s been holding in for DECADES so that he feels at the very least a bit relieved. Yashiro is his only tiny light in that whole darkness of his. 😢 She’s the only one who can help him exiting that dark world: for once making him feel what happiness truly means, adding colours in his monochrome days, reviving him even though he’s now dead.
I wish for Hanako to finally find relief after all that he’s been going through :,)
🌺 And this ends here!
Hey, are you alive after this painful post? I hope so BECAUSE I AIN’T ANYMORE HA-HA!
See you in another post fellows~

What are your favorte jshk fanfics? also where do you like reading them the most?
Hi Anon!!! today is the day I can finally answer this question😈 ahaha you know how much I enjoy making fic recs so 👀 Let’s go!!!
To answer your second question first, I like reading them on AO3 the most! Mostly because I get almost unlimited number of characters to rant in the comment section........... 😆but also the tagging system is very helpful.
Okay, now to the fun part of this ask😏
You said JSHK, but I mostly read Hananene ones so all of my favs include that pairing... as I already did a fic rec here of my favs, this list will continue that one, so please check that one first hehe ((I apologize in advance..., I would love for people to recommend me some mitsukou ones tbh... I’m really lost when it comes to other pairings orz))
If I’m completely honest with you anon-san, my favorite JSHK fic right now is the one Roxanne ( @istoleyourboat ) wrote based of my art and her snippet:
Star-Crossed and Falling- Where Stars Go to Die by lilaflo
Hanako is Princess Nene’s personal knight 👀. A tale of forbidden love. They slowly fall in love as they exchange a series of gifts, one that includes a pair of matching earrings that remind them of their love when they’re apart. Also, jelly Hanako of Nene’s suitors😏... Oh, but nothing lasts forever and those sweet moments will come to an end when they have to face their cruel reality, in this world, they don’t get to choose neither their battles or the ones they love.
Now more of Roxanne, because I seriously enjoy her work so much (I’m sure everyone knows by now lmao sdkj)
Night of the Phantom King by lilaflo
This one is a spooky one. Nene’s regret for never realizing who she truly loves takes her to mourn her deceased friend Amane and cry on his grave in a Halloween night, then suddenly the Phantom King comes to take her away👀 & he looks suspiciously familiar... Beautiful world building btw, also the ending is just, excellent.
12 Year Romance by lilaflo
Amane meets Nene at the Tanabata festival, she’s older than him, but he falls for her instantly, fast forward, Amane is now in middle school, he’s a troublemaker, & gets constantly into fights, but he swears the new school nurse looks familiar... he then realizes it’s her and thinks it must be fate!!!... This one hits close to home bc I’ve been in this situation irl, so I can confirm all of Nene’s struggles are real (and ofc how a love with an age gap should be handled the correct way, this fic really teaches you many life lessons hahaha)
took a sip then another sip, then you turned and said to me by chivalrousamour
This autor has a bunch of good JSHK fics!! I recommend you check their AO3 out, bec you may find something you like for sure! But, this is my absolute fav from them. Nene is a mangaka, celebrating the finishing of her long serialized manga, while Amane is a delivery boy who happens to find her in a very questionable state in her house👀 (it’s all family friendly ofc, anon, I’m not a slimy pervert like some ghost boy)
Maid for Each Other by corologs ( @corologs )
Courtney has this amazing College AU collection series that I encourage you to check out!!! But Maid for each other is my fav!!! So it’s the Yugi twins birthday, and it’s Tsukasa’s turn to choose where they go to celebrate it... you can already tell where this is going... (let the chaos begin) & as the title said, it involves maids!!! (it has Kaicho wa maid sama vibes if you liked that anime~~)
If I Could Tell Her by corologs
What if the picture perfect arc plan was successful??? Well, this fic explores this idea, and it’s very interesting to read. I like how Amane and Hanako are two separate people here.
the horizon tries but it’s just not as kind on the eyes by sincerelyand ( @sunlightinourheadlights )
(Oh my sweet Karen, she writes such good fics, so go check her AO3 out as well!!) Amane and Yashiro are friends that share an apartment (& they were roommates-- OMG they were roommates), even if Amane has its complains, because Nene can be a handful sometimes (and in denial of her true feelings as always, are we even surprised at this point?) he loves her dearly anyways😭.
for real, this time by sourlemoncandy ( @sour-lemon-candy )
Did somebody say fake dating AU?????? Because hell yeah I did asajj I loved reading this so much!! Nene and Amane are childhood friends, and Nene overhears some girls talking about Amane and how one of them plans to ask him out... but she senses these girls are up to no good so she... well, you gotta read it to find out more~~ it’s no fun If I tell ya everything hehe... so go go go!!
lemon cream by sourlemoncandy
Amane and Nene, just two good friends having a road trip and sharing donuts... what could go wrong?? 😏 seriously, I loved this fic so much!! Instant fav! Also makes me wanna try some good sweet donuts...
Trip Down Memory Lane by insipidenvy ( @insipidenvy )
This fic is so sweet. I have such a huge attachment to it, because I read it when I really needed some fluff in my life hahaha. It’s sort of a collection of memories between Amane and Yashiro’s relationship over the years. So heartwarming... if you need the fluffs you’ll enjoy this very much!!
The Radish Princess and the Toilet Prince by insipidenvy
This is my favorite fic from insipidenvy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know how I am a slut for Royalty AUs so that’s why!!!!! Also Toilet Prince!! hahahaha such a good nickname lmao. I love how they bond over their insecurities, it’s very relatable tbh.
Between Wind and Water by WingSongHalo ( @wingsonghalo )
My beautiful Wing always delivering the good Hananene content, as she should!! This fic is so fun to read!! I laughed so hard at Nene and Hanako being awkward with each other!!! So you know how Hanako is super clingy with Nene, he’s always touching & hugging her, but this time something weird happens and he’s so distant~~ Nene doesn’t want to admit it at first, but she misses his clingy ghost boy~~ you’ll have a good time reading this for sure!
The Monster's Bride by Hammsters ( @uglierdaikon )
Have you heard about the myth of Cupid and Psyche? Well this fic rewrites it in a very Hananene way <3 hehe I loved it so much (as I’m a huge fan of mythology~) To sum it up, Nene is fated to marry a monster that lives in the mountains so she’s devastated... to her surprise, her husband is far from what she expected... she only had one rule to obey and well... we all know how reckless Nene is so... you go find out what happens next now!! hehehe
Morning Reflections by FalalalaLa ( @miss-sternennacht )
So you’ve heard of Hanako watching Nene sleep, but what about Nene watching Amane sleep???!! this fic offers you this and so much more fluff <3 Also Nene remembering how they met and how their relationship evolved during the years, aww <3
Cursed Coin by DaikonSenpai ( @daikonsenpai )
There’s a school dance, Yashiro’s supposed to be dancing with Kou (since she can’t go with Hanako, which causes him to be jelly~~ and bitter), but she loses a coin Aoi gave her for good luck so she goes out and searches for it on the last place she saw it, the school fountain. Suddenly Hanako spots her, what’s she doing outside??? is she drunk or something?? what happens next you may find out when you read it~~~
Between Love and Hope by Baronesscmd (SweeterThanYourDarkestSin) ( @baronesscmd )
Oh to be Nene and get to sleep between the Yugi twins... God really has favorites uh... ISTG, this collection of fics is so cute. I love how Nene loves the twins so much in this AU, they have their little cute family. She ofc is in love with Amane, but their relationship with Tsukasa is so tender... it’s mostly this trio having fluffy moments together to heal your soul... if you need some, you’ll get it here for sure hahaha.
Ghost of You (And All the Futures We've Forgotten) by Indigo_Floof milkteamoon ( @indigosienna , @spades-queen )
So anon you may have been wondering, well this bitch likes fluff only???? how about some angst for a change, uh? DAMN, OKAY THEN, here you have some angst to rip your soul out and wish you never sent me this ask in the 1st place, bec of the emotional damage this fic will leave you sdajjsa, also if you liked “Erased”, you’ll love this fic too!
Hanako of the Opera by zxrstan
Finally, but not less important, me being annoying about Hanako of the Opera & POTO AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! This fic is based of the AU Aidairo created mostly, it’s really fun to read if you didn’t get much of what was happening during the Hanako of the Opera event, it has a nice ending also! very satisfying I must say.
AAAAND THIS IS THE END OF MY ALL TIME FAV LIST OMG;;;; Kudos for me for searching through all my damn AO3 and Google Chrome history (from both my PC and phone, since I am a FOOL and forgot my AO3 password so I read a lot of these in the past as a guest before recovering my password LMAO, please be patient with me omg, and also if you see me bookmarking them now, you know why 😭)
Kudos to all of my writer homies as well, I love and appreciate all of you so much!! you have no idea! 💖
I hope you find this list useful, anon!! Thank you for sending me this ask and have a wonderful day!
Ps. Please everyone feel free to add more fics to this list if you want! this is all my personal picks, but I’m aware there are a lot more fics that I haven’t read and deserve as much recognition as the ones I listed!

Argh I know this is like too soon but I can’t wait for Season 2 of JSHK at 2021!! I wanna know the voice actors of Kako, Mirai, Shijima maybe No.6? And as much as I love the JSHK Op and Ed I hope the new one will be just as good really haha! What do u think that’s going to happen for Season 2 of JSHK?
WAITーIS IT ALREADY CONFIRMED?! I DIDN'T KNOW!! :000
I love "No. 7" and "Tiny Light" with all my heart ;w;; but of course new ones are welcomed! I've mentioned this plenty of times already but I do really love the Tanabata Arcーthough I'm not sure if it'll be in the second season if there is one.
Maybe Lerche will pull it off? Like they'll make it that Nene invites Kou after the Three Clock Keepers arc? Or maybe after the Searching arc?
I agree with the people who said they'd start the season with a filler chapter like the Mokke of the dead chapter. Okay, so here are my thoughts about what episodes will be aired:
MAJOR SPOILERS FROM THE MANGA!
Episode 1 - Mokke of the dead (Chapter 39)
• A fun way to start the new season! Also I'd love to see this scene animated >:3
Episode 2 - The Three Clock Keepers (Parts 1 & 2)
• I think Akane revealed as the clock keeper is a good cliffhanger, don't you think?
Episode 3 - The Three Clock Keepers (Parts 3 & 4)
• C'mon, this would be a good cliffhanger too! Mirai saying "I can't move her time forward! Honorable No. 7... Does this mean she... has no more time left...?" Then cue the ED ;w;;
Episode 4 - The Three Clock Keepers (Part 5) and Searching Arc
• Idk. I feel like Lerche would try and compile these two into one episode? I want the rooftop kiss please 🥺
Episode 5 - Tanabata Arc (Part 1)
• Yeah, yeah I'm super biased xD I want this precious arc to be animated okay? Also Kou still might be down at this point right? So Nene would like to cheer him up. So the end of this episode would be baby Amane offering Nene his hand.
Episode 6 - Tanabata Arc (Part 2)
• Baby Amane enjoying the festival with Nene-oneesan 🥺 Then Nene would wake up to Hanako smiling gently at her. Then the end scene would be Amane hanging his wish slips aaaaa
Episodes 7 to 12 - Picture Perfect Arc and End of a Dream Arc
• We all know how long the Picture Perfect arc is so I guess 6 whole episodes would be enough? I'm not sure...
I think episode 11's end scene would be the revelation of Hanako's real wish. Then the final episode would be the scene where Nene asks Hanako to grant her wish.
The ED song would start playing from the scene with Nene removing the seal of Shijima's yorishiro. And I do adore the scene with the Toilet Trio 🥺 Hanako poking Kou's cheek while his arm is on Nene's shoulder. I guess they wouldn't include the exams? They'll just end it with that scene.
That's the end! ^^ I'd love to hear yours, anon-san or from anyone who wants to share theirs!

The 7 Mysteries Analysis
🚨JSHK SPOILERS!!!🚨
In the Hell of Mirrors arc, Tsuchigomori mentions that each of the 7 mysteries governs a certain aspect of the school:
Now that we have (kind of) met #6, I thought it would be interesting to examine the 7 mysteries powers and what they control in the school!
The mysteries that are in purple are the ones whose yorishiros have been destroyed, meaning they are technically not part of the 7 mysteries anymore. Pink is pure theory at this point.
Disclaimer: We don't know everything about the 7 mysteries yet so some of this is speculation!
No. 1- Time
Kako- Controls the past, can rewind time for students or the school.
Mirai- Controls the future, can turn time forward for students or the school.
Aoi Akane- Human assistant to the clock keepers, controls the present. He can stop time for up to 15 minutes per day with his watch.
Yorishiro- This one is tricky- do they each have a yorishiro or do they share one?
Boundary- ? Maybe if Hanako-kun wasn't such a perv we would know
Rumor- There are three clock keepers that control the past, present, and future of the school with a big clock. If you touch the clock without their permission, they will steal all your time.
No. 2- Space
Yako- The stairs in Yako's boundary can take you anywhere in the school-including other mystery's boundaries. She can also bring dolls to 'life'.
Yorishiro- The scissors Misaki gave her
Boundary- The Misaki Stairs
Rumor- If you step on the 4th stair of Staircase B in the old building, you will be taken to the far shore and torn to pieces.
No. 3- Memories
Bird Guy Mitsuba Souske- He can see anything that has ever happend in the school (if it happend in front of a mirror).
Yorishiro- The ceiling of the boundary (why tho)
Boundary- The Hell of Mirrors, located inside the mirrors of the school
Real Life- Mitsuba Souske died in an accident(?) his second year of middle school. He was in the photography club.
Rumor- If you look into a mirror at the school, it could suck you into The Hell of Mirrors. The hell of mirrors reflects your hearts deepest regrets and darkness, and will use these things to attack you to try to swap places with you on the near shore.
No. 4- Reality/Fiction(?)
Shijima Mei- The only explanation of what Mei controls is Sakura saying she "creates worlds based on peoples wishes/desires in their heart." That sounds dangerously close to Hanako's territory? Based on the fact that she creates fictional worlds that can trap students, I believe she controls what is real vs not real.
Yorishiro- Sketchbook
Boundary- the art room
Real Life- Shijima Mei was a student at the academy in the 80s. She loved art and her family supported her in pursuing it, but she got sick and had to stay in the hospital for a prolonged time. She continued to work on her art there and submitted her final drawing to a student art show.
Rumor- A girl who loved art but wasn't allowed to pursue it killed herself and now haunts the art room. She can trap you in a fake world that she paints and make you do whatever she wants.
No. 5- Records
Tsuchigomori- Can read the lives of the students at the school from the time they enter to the time they graduate.
Yorishiro- Amane's moon rock
Boundary- The 4 O'Clock Library (accessed through the library)
Rumor- If you go to the library at 4pm, a special room will open that has books with the names of every student who has ever attended the school in it. The books tell you everything that a student has done or will do at the school. Black books are students that have died, white books are living students, and red ones, the ones that are forbidden to read, tell you the future.
No. 6- Life/Death
Shinigami- He can kill things or bring them back to life just by touching them.
Yorishiro- Akane Sumire
Boundary- It is unclear how you get to no. 6's boundary, but it is located under the school.
Rumor- If you hear the sound of a flute playing, it means the reaper is coming to collect your soul to sacrafice you to hungry spirits/the gods.
No. 7- Wishes(?)
Hanako (Yugi Amane)- Hanako grants wishes for humans in exchange for a price (but I think he does more than just that). He is also the leader of the 7 mysteries. He can only be summoned by people with supernatural powers or people who are close to the far shore. He is the third Hanako Kamome Academy has had.
Yorishiro- based on Sumire being no. 6's human yorishiro with a black/red seal, I think it is safe to assume at this point that Hanako's yorishiro is Tsukasa.
Boundary- Hanako's boundary either is the 3rd floor girl's bathroom in the old building or you reach it through the bathroom.
Real Life- We dont know much about Amane's life yet other than he went to Kamome Academy, died his second year of middle school in 1969, and killed his younger twin brother.
Rumor- Hanako-san of the toilet is the ghost of a girl who haunts the girls bathroom. If you go to the old building's third floor bathroom and knock on the door of the third stall 3 times, a girl with a bob haircut and red skirt will grant one of your wishes in exchange for something you care about.
No. 8
OKAY OKAY OKAY- i know theres no OFFICAL no. 8 yet, but I think Yashiro will still die and Hanako will make her no. 8 to keep her on the near shore or Tsukasa will grant her wish to stay at the school. She may come back to life with the help of the 7 mysteries powers, but there are just too many clues that point to this- her name having the kanji for '8' in it, the first season OP mentioning an 8th mystery, the fact that she is fated to die, her skull brooch, etc. If this does happen, I hope she gets to control love/romance, I think our girl would enjoy that at least. 🥺

Clock-Bound Akane-kun
Warning: !!!Manga spoilers for Clock Keeper arc!!!
Since there’s no new episode anymore, here you go. Have yet another variation of JSHK Reverse AU.
hananene and akaoi swap circumstances.
Akane and Aoi died in some sort of accident in Kamome Academy years ago.
He was trying to save her, but he failed.
Aoi managed to reincarnate, but Akane got turned into an earth bound ghost because of his regret.
Just before he died he really wished he could stop time.
So that’s why he ended up being a Clock Keeper.
They met again in Aoi’s next life when he saved her from that truck, and he was shocked when she could see him ‘cause … y’know.
Only those who are running out of time could see the clock keepers.
Akane made up an excuse about how she owed him for saving her life, so in return she had to be his assistant (lies! he just wanted to be close to her and protect her from her fate).
Just imagine Aoi hanging out with Kako and Mirai wherever the giant clock is ain’t that adorbs?
Mirai loves her.
“Ne, ne, Akane-nii! When’s Aoi-nee coming?”
So yeah, the equivalent of bathroom cleaning duty in this one is babysitting Mirai, more or less … which sounds a lot better.
Aoi’s still popular in this one and Akane’s still that protective psycho we know and love.
Many of her admirers claim to be haunted after they tried confessing to her.
If they got really lucky Akane would freeze the time in the entire school aside from said admirer, leaving them running around confused and thinking they’ve gone crazy.
Akane gets reprimanded about that a lot.
“Honorable No. 1, we scare students occasionally, not every time someone makes a move on your assistant, and definitely not to make students require therapy.”
Who’s our exorcist in this one, you ask?
Lemon. Our boy Yamabuki Lemon of the infamous Yamabuki clan.
The whole school thinks he’s a delinquent, because he’s got creepy piercing eyes or whatever. Comes with being able to see supernaturals, probably.
Aoi used to like him for his bad boy, masculine charm. It made her heart race and all.
So Akane tried to murder him.
Only to find out that 1) he’s an exorcist, 2) a pretty capable one.
They fought on the rooftop until Lemon managed to convince Akane to just talk it out.
Lemon said he didn’t like Aoi (he’s not into prepubescent bodies). But that only made it worse.
Luckily Aoi found them before Lemon could get killed.
“Ah, you’re so lucky to be friends with Yamabuki-kun …”
“No I’m not! He’s not even that cool. He said you have prepubescent body!”
RIP Akane.
See Lemon is the laziest exorcist ever. Capable, but lazy.
He doesn’t really wanna be one, but his parents insist he tries the family business until at least he graduates before letting him make his own decision.
So Lemon made a deal with the pitiful ghost. He wouldn’t pursue Aoi romantically and would try his best to make her not like him like that, in return Akane had to let him help with exorcising rogue supernaturals around school to get his parents off his back.
After spending some time with Lemon, Aoi could see that he wasn’t a delinquent and decided she didn’t like him like that anymore.
She does like him as a friend and that alone is apparently still enough to get Akane jealous.
So Akane still gets murderous sometimes but it’s a little more chill because Lemon’s his friend now.
Yay they’re a trio!
On the flipside, enter your local supernatural-obsessed, rumor girl best friend, Nene, and her friendzoned childhood friend Amane.
Like, it’s public knowledge that Amane likes her, and that Nene’s in massive denial, and that Amane is sorta constantly shifting between being in and out of denial about her denial. Y’know, teen drama.
At the beginning of junior high his twin Tsukasa dragged him to try summoning Hanako in the 3rd floor bathroom. He thought his brother’s love woes were in dire need of ghostly intervention.
Voila, it worked! They summoned Hanako-san, who turned out to be an upperclassman who just graduated.
He wished for the ability to make Nene like him.
Nene liked supernaturals.
So Hanako-san was like, “Oh perfect I’ve been looking for a successor!”
Amane: Dafuq? Tsukasa: Tell me more, tell me more~
Amane refused to be a wonder, but Hanako-san threatened to hurt Nene if he didn’t accept.
She wants to go to college, okay, and she’s had enough dealing with supernatural shit for 6 years.
Tsukasa was on board from the start.
And thus toilet boys were born.
Still works more or less like in the manga. Amane grants wishes for the living, Tsukasa grants wishes for the dead.
Tsukasa’s not as insane in this one but he still causes trouble.
Which is why Akane hates the twins.
“No. 7 please control your brother. I only ask for one (1) peaceful day.”
So between granting wishes every now and then, keeping his wild brother in check, getting jealous of Nene’s crushes, and protecting said girl who keeps running into supernatural trouble due to her supernatural rumor investigations …
Amane is fucking TiredTM
The wish granting isn’t that bad, actually, not many people could summon him after all. Only those who are close to the far shore.
His most frequent client is Lemon, looking for a place to hide from murderous Akane.
“She gave you the cupcake she made in home ec. Therefore, you must die.”
“YOU GOT ONE TOO FFS!”
“Akane-kun, leave Yamabuki-kun alone!”
Both boys were too busy chasing/running to notice Tsukasa had stolen the cupcakes.
“Amaneee, you want one?”
He wants to retain his human side and not crossover completely due to his boss’ murderous spree, thank you very much.
So yeah Amane and Lemon are pretty good friends.
One time in class Lemon let it slip that he could always depend on Hanako-san.
“She’s a very reliable wish-granter.”
Aoi tried not to laugh.
Tsukasa didn’t even bother.
If Amane wasn’t too tired with his life in general he probably would’ve punched Lemon.
Someone heard them, though.
One day, while waiting for Nene to be done with gardening club so they could go home together, Amane is summoned.
So he calls Hakujoudai, teleports to the girls’ bathroom, and answers.
Wish-granting has never been the worst part of his job until he sees who’s on the other side of the door this time.
“Amane-kun?”
