synopsis : you aren’t dating. why does everyone keep asking that?

pre-apocalypse

a head hits your shoulder as the noise of the cafeteria echoes around you. gyeongsu’s hair tickles your neck as you converse with suhyeok. he looks to your right and smirks before continuing to eat his lunch.

you jostle your right shoulder, only smiling at the unhappy groan you receive. “you have to eat, too, you know.”

gyeongsu lets out a huff, his chilled nose brushing against your neck as he stretches. sleepy eyes barely open, only prying his mouth open just slightly. you grin, holding the food up to his mouth so he can eat.

“so,” cheongsan eyes you both, “how long will it be now? a few months or…?”

you chew on the food in your mouth, placing some in gyeongsu’s right after. “for what?”

the table goes silent as gyeongsu sits up. he yawns, taking a sip of your drink before rubbing his eyes. “what are we talking about again?”

it’s daesu who answers despite the others telling him not to speak. “you’re dating.”

“well—“

the bell rings before gyeongsu can say more.

you clean off the desks, eyes bouncing to gyeongsu and cheongsan as they giggle and sweep the floor. onjo nudges you as she walks by, a sly look on her face. isak trails up beside her, a damp washcloth swinging in her hands.

“so…”

you pause from your cleaning to look up at them. isak gestures to the gray hoodie you wear. “it’s official, then? this is how you tell everyone?”

your face heats immediately as you turn frantically, making sure your conversation wasn’t overheard. you pat their arms tenderly yet desperately. “shut up! shush, shhh!”

“sorry!” onjo giggles to herself as she pulls isak away. “have fun!”

gyeongsu stands behind you now, your bag and his slung over his shoulder. he looks over your figure, clad in his own hoodie with a grin. “ready to head home?”

you trek behind gyeongsu slowly, eyeing the way his empty hand swings. you ache to hold it — can feel the phantom touch of his fingers twining into your own. “date me.”

the words come out before you can stop them. gyeongsu pauses and you think you should take it back — say you hadn’t spoke at all. his head tilts and it’s so endearing you could cry.

“officially.” you pick at your nails nervously as gyeongsu stands in front of you. “be my boyfriend, please.”

gyeongsu’s mouth falls open before he snaps it back shut. he’s going to reject you, your throat closes up. you’ve ruined everything. “i— thought we were already dating.”

a confused silence bubbles around you now. gyeongsu stares at you as you stare at him. his fingers inch to yours and he grabs your hand, giving it a gentle squeeze with a smile. “the first time you held my hand on the way home. you were mine, i thought.”

you gulp, “oh.” and then you laugh, tugging him closer as your empty hand clutches onto his chest. “i think we’re stupid.”

gyeongsu deepens his voice dramatically, into a silly tone before placing his forehead to yours. “stupid in love.”

you shove him away with a grin, smile widening when he only brings you closer once more.

Cheong-san gave his best friend a look of disbelief, Gyeong-su have been staring at yoon y/n ever since she arrived at the cafeteria and that was basically all he could do.

"Gyeong-su come on just make your move!" Cheong-san says out of annoyance, Gyeong-su glares at him "tsk..yeah right, like you already made your move" he mutters

Su-hyeok snickers as he munched on the chicken in his plate "sure, you just won't ask her out because she's off limits"

Gyeong-su groans knowing that the tall man was right and as if on cue Gwi-nam was starting to walk towards their table

"hey hey- is he walking this way? did he catch me staring at his sister? uh- i'll get goi-" Gwi-nam was already standing in front of them before Gyeong-su could even finish his sentence, "crap" he whispers underneath his breath

he looks away and whistles nervously "hey. what's your business with my sister huh?!" Gwi-nam asks, voice loud enough for everyone in the cafeteria to hear which caused them to turn their direction to see what's going on

Gyeong-su shakes his head and Gwi-nam rolls his eyes "yeah right you've been staring at her since she got here! you do that in classes too! bet you tried to take a peek on her showering?!" Gwi-nam growls while Gyeong-su immediately shakes his head "WHAT?! NO! I'D NEVER!" he denies and Gwi-nam just sighs

"sure..here" he hands Gyeong-su a letter, looking at their table he saw y/n with her eyes wide and Gwi-nam's friend smirking while wiggling their eyebrows and elbowing y/n "i found that in my sister's bag and being the kind, loving and very considerate brother i am i decided to give it to you as her love life is as dry as the Sahara Desert thank me later by the way" Gwi-nam says smugly and when he turned around he was met with a fist going straight to his nose

"OUCH! THAT FUCKING HURT YOU LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT!" he yells while y/n stuck her tounge out "that's what you get for going through my stuff AGAIN" y/n was about to head back to their table with Gwi-nam until she noticed Gyeong-su, Cheong-san and Su-hyeok reading the love letter she wrote

Su-hyeok was the first to turn to them, a smug smirk on his lips as he wiggled his brows "look at that..Gwi-nam helping his little sis get a boyfriend when in 10th grade he denied all my advances in asking y/n out, life's unfair" he says jokingly and dramatically

"fuck off" Gwi-nam mutters eyes rolling once more, he noticed y/n's face slowly going pale as Gyeong-su looked up at her "you like me?"

y/n facepalmed not answering the man's question and turning around to leave but before she could go any further Gyeong-su takes hold of her wrist "answer me" he says- no demands. looking away y/n nods and just as she was about to walk away Gyeong-su begins to laugh

"YES!" he exclaims and pulled y/n into a kiss, she kissed back but suddenly felt herself being dragged from behind on her uniform's collar

she turns slightly to see her brother, Gwi-nam who had a frown "yeah yeah sweet lovey dovey shit please don't do that in front of me again" he says with a sarcastic smile while y/n hits his arm complaining that he ruined her moment

meanwhile Gyeong-su touched his lips as his other fist formed into a ball, raising it up with a proud smile on his face "SHE'S MINE NOW!" earning claps from the students around them

teasingly he turns to his two best friends who were happy for him "now..it's your guys' turn to ask your crushes out" he says making the two roll their eyes "oh please, it was all thanks to your future brother-in-law that you got the girl"

well he is all softie And even more about you! if you expect he will be affective only in private, cut it, he definitely talks about you from time to time to his friends and even people he just met.

when you go out together he makes sure you're holding hands to be more close to you and if anyone glance at you, they know you're together and he loves you more than anything!

finally it's sunday, a good day to relax and chill. on-jo and i-sak invited me to a carnival opening nearby the city, i immediately accepted their invitation since i have nothing to do today.

i walked out from my house and went through the gate as two figures appeared and startled the shit out of me. i held my chest in shock and throwing glare stares at them.

"could the two of you stop scaring me like that.." i ranted and they just laugh at me as i rolled my eyes. on-jo just pull my wrist and playfully swing it side to side giving me big smiles which made me smile too.

" you should stop frowning so much or you'll aged faster!" i-sak teased. "whatever" i replied as we continued to our destination.

after a short bus ride, we've finally arrived at the carnival that been exclusively open today.

of course, crowds spreading everywhere. families, couple and friends were chatting and strolling anywhere the carnival. as while i am observing the place, my eyes widen as i spotted the person on the crowd. it was gyeong-su.

"wait, is that cheongsan? hey! guys!" on-jo seem to notice where i was looking and started to scream on the crowds. three heads turn to glance at our direction.

cheongsan slowly approaches as gyeongsu and suhyeok joins. i was shaking—my hands were shaking, it's only gyeong-su just act normal damn it. i-sak notices my state and a smirk planted on her face.

"don't you ever..!" i mumbled at her but it was too late. i began to feel embarrassed and turn away, my back facing them.

"hey we never expected that we've bumped to you guys!" i-sak said and on-jo nodding as she agree with i-sak's statement. i was only looking at the floor, dumbfounded. i should have stayed at home.

"are you okay (y/n)?" a hand rested at my shoulders, shaking me lightly. i look up and saw gyeong-su looking at me with his concern eyes. i awkwardly give him a wide smile and brush his hand off from me.

"i'm totally fine! j-just excited! that's all." i said, gyeongsu seems satisfied with my answer and nodded.

"let's split!" on-jo said and suddenly look at me, giving me a teasing look and now i know where the hell this is going. i rub my temples, i am here to have fun not get stressed out.

so it's finally planned, on-jo with cheongsan, i-sak with suhyeok and yeah, me and gyeongsu. i don't know if i should get happy since i got to have a time alone with him or not.

things between me and gyeongsu are starting to get awkward for me, since the started to develop these feelings for him. i avoided him thinking these feelings would stop but it didn't. it's rarely for us to hang-out not like before, except for lunches since all of us always eat together. i feel sorry for myself, i just don't know how to handle crushy thingy.

" so hi " gyeongsu asks cutting our quite atmosphere between us. " well hi " i replied as my fingers fidget in each other waiting for him to make another conversation.

"they seem to set us up, i knew those guys were planning." gyeongsu chuckled as he scratches his nape. "yeah i will those two bitches right after this." i said and gyeongsu just continued giggling.

"so what do you want to do? it's my treat." gyeongsu offered and stuffed both his hands inside his pocket. i shake my head. "no it's okay, i can pay mine!" i rejected.

"don't worry about it! it's just been a long time we've been hanging out together alone." gyeongsu look at me and smiles. i just stared at him as he suddenly pulled my wrist.

"let's play that one!" gyeongsu chirped happily. i wish this day will last long.

i look around the stall, it was full of plushies and other adorable stuffs. and suddenly there was something caught my eyes, it was a cat stuff toy. the most cutest thing i've ever seen.

gyeongsu started to play, he grabbed a ball as he tossed and target. i silently cheered for him. his first attempt was failed, and his second attempt was also failed, only one ball is left. he grabbed the last ball, i closed my eyes as climax began to build inside of me. i hope he do great this time.

" here, for you." i slowly open my eyes, revealing the cat stuff toy that is drool for earlier appeared in front of me. my eyes sparkles in joy and snatch it from his hands.

i was clueless and definitely very curious of what he gonna say to me after this. the carousel stops, and we hop out of our horses and went outside.

we kept strolling around the different stalls to try different games, riding merry-go-rounds, eating variety of sweets foods and then i realized, the awkward feeling of me to him is gone. totally gone.

" wow it's already 5 pm, gosh i didn't realized we've been that long touring around the carnival." i stated as i continued lick my ice cream.

"yeah, maybe the others had gone home now without us." he replied and the both of us laughing.

"by the way, you told me that you have something to say to me right?" i asks as my curiosity starts to building up.

"oh yeah i almost forgot about that." he grinned.

" (y/n), why did you avoid me all of sudden?" he asks, a hint of sadness where visible in his voice. i stop licking my ice cream, and stare at him. i was lost in words, i don't know what to say.

"sorry, there was an ice cream on it, i like the flavor of your ice cream but i like you more (y/n)." he confessed.

before i could react at his confession, it's already blue hour. the magic hour, the skies were already calm and painted in deep blue making the tension between us more romantic.

"i didn't know you where this cheesy, gyeongsu." i teased.

"hey! at least i tried to confess my feelings to you too!" he ranted. i know he won't shut up his mouth until he won against me teasing him so i peck his lips and pulled his hands and clasps it with mine.

"we still have school tomorrow come on." i said. he stayed silent and still flustered.

today is gonna be the one of the best day of my entire life, forget about the thing I said earlier that i should go home, i take it back. tomorrow will be a long long day ahead for the two of us.

probably friends to lovers. he just gives off the vibe. i feel like if he likes someone he’d probably be friends with them first and slowly realize he likes that person and freak out and ? confess out of the blue ? like fuck it if they like me they do if they don’t they don’t!

the point is, you liked him. YAY!

as a boyfriend, gyeongsu likes teasing you a lot. he teases you if you’re even a bit flustered, he teases you when you get a worse grade than him, he teases you when it’s absolutely totally completely uncalled for. he always finds a reason to– it’s like teasing you is his love language, at this point.

he’s actually a very caring and sensitive person behind the happy-go-lucky, typical jokster-teenage-boy attitude. if he senses you’re upset he’ll try his best to make you feel better. if he senses you’re upset because of him you’ll get the most heartfelt and sincere apology you’ve ever gotten in your entire life.

he’s not exactly high on cash, so he can’t go out to super-nice restaurants for dates with you, or buy you gifts every other day, but he finds a way to make it work. sometimes he saves up so he can buy you something he knows you’ve wanted for a long time, sometimes he buys you cheap stuff that’s really cute. sometimes he buys things that are more on the useful side in packs of two. like, if he needs a charger– might as well get a spare one in case you need it! if he buys a new mousepad for his laptop? well, why not get you one so your aim in the games you play in co-op isn’t as bad as he claims it to be?!

it was a night of tranquility. as the hands of the clock just reached midnight, the chin of gold stood out most from the glimmering specks of silver sprouting throughout the night sky, yet they still both shined like sapphires lost in diamonds through the window of the broadcasting room nevertheless.

only it truly wasn't such a tranquil night. not when fucking zombies were in hyosan high; crowding the halls, the classrooms, the cafeteria ─ literally everywhere.

still, silence lingered amongst you and your friends in the broadcasting room, even if it was all chaos outside. but in quietness, there remained a manipulating voice in your head.

legs shaking, you slowly stood up and walked to the very corner of the room, away from everything and everyone. sliding against the wall, you sat on the floor with your knees held close to your chest.

'eat them.' your voice persuaded, as you continued to chew on your nails. 'just fucking kill them all. it's so easy.'

the screams of your beloved friends followed in your growing absence, only you didn't care at all. you simply kept running, wondering how the hell you didn't attract the zombies that were surrounding you if you were out in the open.

in time, you found a vacant place that would help you calm your nerves; the restroom.

shallow breaths came out of your mouth, as you gripped the edge of the sink tighter. overcame by hunger, you bit your hand. suddenly hit by reality, your head hesitantly tilted up, eyes glancing at yourself in the cracked mirror that was splattered with blood.

you shrieked, tears pooling in your eyes. you hit the cracked mirror with your bitten hand, making it shatter even more, as shards of glass pierced through your skin; you didn't even try to pull it out.

'how had it come to this?'

unconsciously, your hand started to reach where you got bitten by someone, shuddering at the brash presence of the memory that had just happened three hours ago. you didn't tell your friends, you were afraid on what they would do.

hearing whimpers coming from one of the stalls, your train of thoughts were interrupted. with step by step, you approached the third stall, being fast to open the door, only to see someone epitomizing a coward, choosing to hide in the murkiest corners, accompanied by dark shadows.

from the voice in your head entrancing you with the idea of your hunger being fulfilled, and to her irresistible scent that made your senses animalistic more than ever. you couldn't fight it.

you lunged at the frightful girl.

biting her neck, her flesh was in your mouth. and you felt sick because you loved it. you basked in the everlasting glory of her taste lingering in your mouth, of the screams that couldn't help but escape her, of the way her blood was painted on the walls and on you.

it was the first time in a while that you felt free.

"you're not eating without me, are you?"

you stopped. letting go of the limp body, tears fell down your face as you turned behind you.

it was gyeong-su. of course it was.

he looked disheveled after running for a long time to find you, but his entrancement of youth still remained. it was han gyeong-su, after all.

sobbing, you curled up into a ball on the floor, as your best friend quickly fell down to your side. "hey, hey, hey, hey, why are you crying? stop crying. i hate it when you cry."

"what does it taste like?" gyeong-su asked, his warm hands holding your cheeks as his thumbs made all your tears go away.

you couldn't help but laugh, sniffling, whilst you remarked. "what do you want me to say? it tastes like chicken?" gyeong-su chuckled, but it quickly disappeared as he heard a wretched sob come from your bloody lips.

"i just told you i hate it when you cry, you and your stubborn self."

he stood up, ripping a part off his knitted green vest, rinsing it with water from the sink.

"what are you doing here? you're not supposed to be here." you grimaced. gyeong-su only ignored you, whistling a tune that lovebirds would sing. he continued to wipe the blood off your lips with the upmost gentleness, as he held onto your hand and caressing it with his thumb.

once he was done cleaning you up, his fingers were entangled in your hair, massaging your scalp.

the way he was with you could almost make you cry.

actions meant more than words with han gyeong-su.

as one final touch of grace, he leant forward to kiss your forehead, stroking your cheeks, as a red blush coated them, with you smiling, drunk in euphoria.

"i love you so so much, darling."

but then, you closed your eyes, and when you opened them again, you were greeted with nothing, as everything that gyeong-su did came undone. and you were only on the ground, uncontrollably rocking back and forth as your cries of anguish became louder and louder by the minute.

because han gyeong-su was dead.
