The son of Wael Al-Dahdouh was killed I hope Hamza Wael Al-Dahdouh and the other two in the car with him rest easy in Heaven, Mustafa Thuraya and Hazem Rajab. I can't imagine the grief Wael must be experiencing. Quote from Wael Dahdouh from UPI news: "Hamza was everything to me, the eldest boy, he was the soul of my soul," Wael Dahdouh said as his son was buried Saturday. "There's are the tears of parting and loss, the tears of humanity."

There are no words good enough to describe how strong Wael Dahdouh is. This man needs a statue built in his honor, I am not fucking kidding. A pinnacle of unwavering strength. He just keeps going, even though he's clearly being targeted, even though he's lost his family, even though things are getting rapidly worse and he can see the world powers watch with disinterest. Wael Dahdouh is a living legend who deserves nothing but respect, peace, and ease for the rest of his life. Problem is, he may never get it. I want him to get it. Him and all the other journalists who've made it so far despite everything.

Hamza Wael Al-Dahdouh, journalist and eldest son of Al Jazeera bureau chief Wael Al-Dahdouh, and journalist Mustafa Thraya, were both martyred about 5-6 hours ago.
This last post to Hamza's stories is chilling, considering he and Mustafa were murdered right after this:

May they be resting in peace with their loved ones in Jannah.
At least 110 Journalists have been assassinated by the occupation since October 7th, 2023.
Journalists with more followers and engagement are supposed to be more likely to not be martyred by the occupation. Please go follow all the journalists in Gaza and the rest of Palestine that you can across all social media.
And please don't stop talking about Palestine.

Israel admitted they targeted Al Jazeera reporters Hamza Al-Dahdouh (son of Wael Al-Dahdouh, who already lost the majority of his family in another deliberate strike just weeks ago) and Mustafa Thuraya when their car was hit by Israeli airstrike. Israel proudly proclaimed they'd successfully targeted terrorists.

[ID: 4 photos by Hamza Wael Al-Dahdouh.
1: A missile falling directly towards the roof of a residential building. In the foreground is another roof with a water tank, satellite receiver, and clothes hanging on a clothesline.
2: The same building with fire exploding out of its windows. The outside of the building still appears intact but the bomb is blowing it out from the inside.
3: The building is barely visible behind large clouds of smoke and fire.
4: A huge cloud of smoke with rubble flying through the air.
The clothesline, satellite receiver, and water tank are in the foreground of all the photos and appear undamaged.
5: The instagram caption, @.hamza_w_dahdooh: Moments before souls and dreams die …

I won’t lie but I’m so sick of liberals on here saying you shouldn’t trust Al Jazeera as a source on Palestine when there are better ones. I’m sorry but Al Jazeera IS one of the better ones. It’s a well established fact that Al Jazeera can have awful, biased reporting when it comes to other issues or other countries, but on Palestine it’s great. Al Jazeera is one of the only news / media platforms that amplifies Palestinians. All its reporters are not only based in but are actually from where they’re reporting. Not to mention, it has multiple reporters on the ground in various parts of Palestine - in Gaza, in the West Bank, and in ‘48 (Israel). Al Jazeera does actually report what other news outlet say when it comes to Palestine too, it doesn’t obfuscate it like certain western media outlets.
Speaking of western media outlets, it’d be hypocritical to say don’t trust Al Jazeera when you probably get your reporting on Palestine from the New York Times or CNN amongst others. Those supposedly “independent” media companies which tow the US government line on Palestine and don’t question anything. So much of the reality on Palestine gets obfuscated by these outlets that they only report on things whenever israel is directly attacked. Al Jazeera on the other hand will report on daily occurrences in Palestine, not to mention publish analytical articles that analyse the occupation very closely.
Again, you may disagree with Al Jazeera’s positioning of things as well as questioning their motives (or Qatari gov to be more specific) etc and that’s fine! But to say they’re not the best source on Palestine when they’re one of the only ones amplifying Palestinian voices at a time when media reporting on israel from other outlets is absolutely dismal is ludicrous lol. As I said, I recognise AJ can have biased reporting on other issues, but just because an outlet has biased reporting on X issue, it doesn’t really cancel out the great reporting they may do on Y issue. I’m also aware that there are many other outlets who do great reporting on Palestine but AJ seems to have a decent sized audience in the English speaking world alongside its notably big audience in the Arabic speaking one.
It should also not be forgotten that Al Jazeera reporters Shireen Abu Akleh and Hamza Al Dahdouh were assassinated by israel while Hamza’s father Wael who is head of the AJ bureau in Gaza had his wife, grandson, and 3 of his children (including Hamza) killed by Israel due to their reporting, which means it counts for something.

Al-Ghoul and al-Rifi were just two of over 160 journalists who have been killed while covering the war in Gaza, by far the deadliest conflict for journalists in recorded history. But while Israel usually leaves their strikes on journalists unacknowledged, the IDF has instead openly gloated about killing al-Ghoul. In a statement, the IDF accused al-Ghoul of being a Hamas fighter–specifically, a member of the Nukhba special ops force. (No evidence was provided for this assertion.) Moreover, his filming of Hamas operations against IDF troops—otherwise known as doing his job as a correspondent for a major television network—was specifically detailed as the reasoning behind his murder.
Al-Ghoul was not even the first Palestinian journalist to have been smeared as a member of an armed organization without evidence. Hamza al-Dahdouh, the son of al-Jazeera’s Gaza bureau chief, Wael al-Dahdouh, was accused of being a member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad after he was murdered by the IDF in January. But the explicit admission by Israel that al-Ghoul’s work as a journalist—his efforts to simply document the war around him—was enough to have him killed is what has caused much of the shock surrounding his death. It also raises a question that has been reverberating intensely around pro-Palestine circles in recent months, but has rarely broken through the hallowed halls of legacy media organizations: Where are the voices of Western journalists amid all this?

7 January 2024
Journalists in north Gaza risk IOF bombs and sniper fire to hold a press conference in condemnation of the brutal murders by the IOF of two well-known journalists, Hamza El-Dahdouh and Mustafa Thraya. Hamza and Mustafa were both active and loved members of their communities, who deeply mourn their loss. Hamza is the third child of Al-Jazeera Gaza bureau chief Wael El-Dahdouh to be murdered since October 7th, in addition to his wife, infant grandson, and multiple other family members.
The speaker, journalist Momin Faiz, expresses condolences to the families of the martyrs and wishes well for all Gazan journalists. He tells the occupation that killing journalists will not stop the truth from being told, and implores the international community to do everything it can to intervene for journalists’ safety in Gaza and see international law followed. On his left is journalist Ismail Al-Ghoul and on his right is journalist Mohammed Saber Arab. Pls dm if you know the name of the journalist to the right of Mohammed.

Al Jazeera journalist Samer Abudaqa killed in Israeli attack in Gaza
Al Jazeera Arabic journalist Samer Abudaqa has been killed and his colleague Wael Dahdouh was wounded in an Israeli attack in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
Cameraman Abudaqa and correspondent Dahdouh were reporting at Farhana school in Khan Younis when they were hit by an Israeli strike on Friday.
Rescue teams were unable to immediately reach Abudaqa and others at the site due to Israeli bombardment.
“Rescuers just managed to retrieve the cameraman Samer Abudaqa’s body,” a spokesperson for the media network said.
Dahdouh was hit by shrapnel on his upper arm, and managed to reach Nasser hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Witnesses said earlier there was heavy shelling in the area around the school.
Wael Dahdouh says the network’s crew was accompanying civil defence rescuers on a mission to evacuate a family after its home was bombed.
“We captured the devastating destruction and reached places that had not been reached by any camera lens since the Israeli ground operation started,” Dahdouh said from his hospital bed.
As the Al Jazeera journalists were heading back on foot because the areas were not accessible by car, Dahdouh said “something big” happened that knocked him to the ground.
After the explosion, Dahdouh said he pressed on his wounds and walked out of the area to get help, but by the time he reached an ambulance, medics said they could not return to the site of the attack because it was too dangerous.
Subsequent efforts to coordinate a safe passage to send rescuers for Abudaqa were delayed, Dahdouh said, adding that one ambulance that tried to reach the cameraman came under fire.
Many Palestinians from the central and northern parts of Gaza have sought shelter in Khan Younis since the war began in October. Many have now been pushed further south towards the strip’s southernmost city of Rafah after Israel intensified its military operations in Khan Younis.
The attack comes amid violent clashes between Palestinian fighters and the Israeli army in locations across Gaza. Residents reported fighting in Shujayea, Sheikh Radwan, Zeitoun, Tuffah, and Beit Hanoon in north Gaza, east of Maghazi in central Gaza and in the centre and northern fringes of Khan Younis, according to the Reuters news service.
The Al Jazeera Media Network condemned the attack and extended its condolences to Abudaqa’s family in Gaza and Belgium.
“The Network holds Israel accountable for systematically targeting and killing Al Jazeera journalists and their families,” a statement read.
“In today’s bombing in Khan Younis, Israeli drones fired missiles at a school where civilians sought refuge, resulting in indiscriminate casualties,” the network said.
“Following Samer’s injury, he was left to bleed to death for over 5 hours, as Israeli forces prevented ambulances and rescue workers from reaching him, denying the much-needed emergency treatment,” the statement added.
In late October, Wael Dahdouh lost four of his family members in an Israeli air raid.
His family had been seeking refuge in Nuseirat camp in the centre of Gaza when their home was bombed by Israeli forces, killing his wife, Um Hamza, his 15-year-old son, Mahmoud, his seven-year-old daughter, Sham, and his grandson, Adam, who died in hospital hours later.
Calls for accountability
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said it was “deeply saddened” and called for an independent investigation into the attack.
The press freedom group says the conflict in Gaza is the deadliest for journalists it has ever recorded.
“We’re outraged by the high price, I would say the extreme price, that Palestinian journalists are paying,” the CPJ’s Carlos Martinez de la Serna told Al Jazeera, adding that there was a “clear prevailing sense of impunity.”
“We need international, independent investigations to assess all these killings and those responsible need to be accountable,” said de la Serna. “It’s essential to remember that journalists under international humanitarian law are civilians, and the obligation on all parties involved in the war is to protect them, and what we’re seeing, is that journalists are being killed.”
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) said it was “shocked” at the attack.
“We condemn the attack and reiterate our demand that journalists’ lives must be safeguarded,” it said in a post on X.
An IFJ report published last week found that 72 percent of journalists who died on the job this year were killed in the Gaza war.
‘A professional, strong team’
The two journalists have worked together with Al Jazeera Arabic since before the war.
“[Samer] and Wael make up a very professional, strong team on the ground, documenting everything and bringing all the facts and live pictures of what the Palestinian people have been going through,” Hani Mahmoud said.
“But particularly with this war, given its intensity in scale and magnitude and the sheer amount of destruction, they have been at the forefront of covering every little detail that one might have forgotten about,” he added.
