she presses her lips to his forehead, burning; and in that searing line there is promise, its' hot white fire nascent of stars. and as his body melts into her, hard flesh turning to foam and stardust, the fire of life swells within her belly, hemlock spilling forth from in-between her teeth.

we will become one, she hears him say: fashion the world from this corpse, and let us both be reborn.

yes, she says. i will turn your bones into pillars and all that is and ever will be will hang between them, safe.

yes, he says; and after all is done, when your hands are fading and returning to ash, rebirth us.

i will, she promises; so that one day we may meet again and through eyes no less divine watch and wonder at the secrets hidden beyond the arching sky.
