"I don't even know how we can be outside right now." Set breathed in and out slowly, elated by the way air seemed to have a shadow when it was this cold. Obviously, she wasn't used to this kind of weather. She glanced over at Reggie; the pair were walking around the town's holiday market. "Think there's something we can eat or drink 'round here that'll warm me up?"

"I see," she nods.

There's merit in the way Reggie thinks about life. Things do change fast and quite suddenly when you're a mortal. Look at all the souls she's eaten; the people whose lives ended before they even made something of themselves. Some people whose lives were taken when they were too young. Set's had plenty of time to think about what she wants to do with her life, yes—but the thing is, since she'll practically live forever, she's not so sure where to start.

"I'm cool hanging out at the diner for now," she says, not fully realizing the privilege behind such a statement. "I'm not really in any rush to leave. But someday in life I'd like to maybe do a painting that ends up in an art museum. Invent the next best dessert. Direct a movie." Such childish things to want, but at the end of the day, Set's essentially that—a little girl who got her life taken away before she could learn what it meant to have adult goals.

"'Til all that crazy stuff happens I'm perfectly fine here, rolling silverware into napkins with you and getting yelled at by Christine," their boss. She cracks a grin at Reggie and bumps her knee. After a beat, she asks:

"So you were a groupie?"

"Definitely not, I always made a better groupie." Reggie teases, forcing a small smile at the assumption, she'd gotten that before, her appearance always warranted that comment. With as much time as she spent with local bands in towns she stayed, her joke wasn't entirely a lie.

What's your plan — If only people could understand how much Reggie hated that question, every teacher, principal, counselor and case worker she had ever spoken to had that question and she's never understood why everyone's expected to have a plan.

"No, I uh — never saw much purpose in planning? Things change too fast, too suddenly, so I take things as they come." Reggie shrugs, it was the truth - at least some portion of it. There was no socially acceptable way to tell people you didn't plan to get this far, now you're just going though the motions. "What about you?"

Context: I don't think Jacket has many green flags. In fact, I barely think he registers the color green. So, this is going to be a very... iffy, pros/cons list.

Is a proud member of the 6'+ club at a generous 6'2", so if you're looking to climb a tree, there you go.

He's athletic!! He's great at playing sports, and he works out often shockingly. Because of that, homeboy is built - if you're into muscles and good shoulders and shit, they're all ready for you!

In my canon, he's actually a natural brunette with cute wavy hair when he doesn't cut it and dye it. So he got some good genes! he's generally a good-looking guy!

He's a mass murderer.

He can't keep a good conversation; like, I'm serious. Sure, he was kinda okay prior to the war, but after?? you're going to need to TEAR information out of him

He's a hedonist by nature so it is very likely that he is going to do whatever the fuck he wants. If he wants to party? He's going to party. Some guy is looking at him funny? He's going to fight them. He is completely disregarding of his partner's feelings if the high is there and he's chasing it.

"I WONDER IF SHE'S EVEN LEGAL SOMETIMES. Like, you know how fucked it is when young girls hang out with older guys?" Clearly, he does. The painted look of apathy across his face hides the genuine contemplation, the unhealthy obsession over another bleach bottle blonde that comes across his per view. Idle fantasies mix with over exaggerated pornography; his thoughts a slurry of baseless, ungenuine material, and mixed with the shows he saw on TV screens, Reggie's face seems to pop into the mix. And as reality blurs with those fantasies, he's too far gone. Breath trembling.

He'll need to buy more tissues later, he remembered. Richard shakes off the thought of last night, teeth gritting and grinding the cigarette between them. "We've gotten drinks together, so that helps a bit. With the assumption I mean. She's at least 21." Richard's voice dwindles to a low, blase about the sentiments within him. "I'm not that great of a guy, but I'm not a monster." Bold words coming from him.

"I'd fuck her in a heartbeat, if she lets me." Bluntly follows. "Who wouldn't? The way she looks up to me... it gets to me sometimes. Not like anything will come of it, but if it happens..." He shrugs. "It won't be anything special, but it'd be fun, at least." Another high to achieve, another downer to feel.

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING || @halfnvmb : ⭐️ (or multiple) for a headcanon about our muses. - For Lilah as many as you want

Reggie is actually one of the first people that Lilah meets when coming to the city for the first time. Even though Lilah is older by a few years, they were both starting anew and making their own lives. Their interaction at the party was the first genuine face to face she had with someone, and they've been attached at the hip since.

Now, I see them as being decent friends, but they're not... outstanding friends if that makes sense? Probably because they're both so young and they're broken people, so I can see them having a tension of trust issues with one another. Like never really opening up the whole story. There's a level of care there between them, but they'll never be great friends until they get over that hump.

Reggie helps Lilah to develop her alternative/grunge style, because when Reggie met Lilah, she gave off instagram baddie vibes. But after getting to know each other, Reggie helps Lilah to recognize she's cooler than that. They go thrift shopping often to help develop Lilah's style.

WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE. in the afterlife, he's short, stout, and slick for a skeleton man; his skull is built like it forever has an mildly frustrated demeanor to it, with a notable feature of his being the three carvings in the middle of his forehead and back of his head. It's decorative and distinguished, but logistically, doesn't make sense (until you realize that, in his past life, he died via three gunshot wounds in the head).

in general for his human appearance, however, he's a handsome, sweet looking guy. strong jaw, strong nose, brown wispy hair often combed back to be out of the way, soft brown eyes - manny looks like he walked out of a 50s film noir film like he was the lead. clark gable esque, played by pe//dro pas//cal. his suits are sharp and well-cut to his shape, often sporting darks blues & neutrals with subtle, fun patterns that play with the outfits texture. 5'9" technically, but his black shoes help give him at least an inch of height.

WHAT THEY SMELL LIKE. crisp and sophisticated; manny won't admit it, but he puts a lot of attention to his appearance and the nonverbals; how people take in his presence. the lingering smell of pomade may waif from him, intermix with the smell of cigar / cigarette smoke. there's depth to it, however - sage & sandalwood, mixes sweetness like citrus. manny knows a salesman is selling the appearance alongside the product, so playing the part wins the deal.

WHAT THEY TASTE LIKE. against his lips are the aftermath of a cigar's bitterness, espresso, with the afterburn of fine tequila or dark bourbon. again, another subtle act of pride and vanity that he doesn't want to admit - anything he consumes has to be at a great quality. he's the son of farmers, knows the value of a well-made product. so when you kiss him, you can taste that same delicateness.

WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE. an interesting mix of gravely, charismatic, but lighter than you'd assume from looking at him. he has a genuinely suave way of speaking, and even in his goofier moments, he has charm to how he speaks. his accent slips out from time to time, harkening back to his mexican/cuban roots. he's voiced by Tony Plana, ala his performance of... Manny Calavera of Grim Fandango.

WHAT THEY FEEL LIKE. gentle, despite the gruffer aspects of his rather go-lucky attitude. manny got a warmness to his touch despite having rough calloused palms. that's the ironic thing about the man: his appearance appeals to the sly salesmen who haven't worked hard for what they earned, never felt the struggle from being at the bottom and clawing their way to the top. manny has farmer boy hands that have been through tragedy, through trial. they're firm in his convictions, dedicated to his goals. and if you dare pry away what he had built himself, be aware: he's going to get it back.

UNUSUAL HEADCANONS. @halfnvmb: #29, 34, 49 #29 - is there something they'd like to change about themselves physically?

Her hair; throughout Lilah's childhood & teen years, she destroyed her hair to fit an image that fits others expectations of her. Being one of the few black families in Potters Grove, there were very few people who knew how to take care of naturally curly/kinky hair. And so, she often flat-ironed and heat-treated her hair and practically killed the majority of it, with her curls not being as defined as they used to be. And although her hair was built to look like conventional straight/wavey hair, it never was her long term look.

Recently, Lilah has cut her hair into a short bob style that goes to her shoulders now. And she's in the process of healing her natural curls, so when she washes her hair, they look like this.

#34. Are they the jealous type? What are they most likely to be jealous of?

100% the jealous type; that's explored here in this meta, but when it comes to things that Lilah would be jealous of, it'd be the following:

1.) Someone's talent overshadowing her own 2.) Someone being unabashedly themselves without being judged 3.) Someone garnering attention for their talent over Lilah

I specify things that are not based on physical attributes - Lilah doesn't give a damn about getting attention just because she looks pretty. She cares more about the attention she receives from who she is & the art/writing she puts out. And her insecurities will cause her the lash out more than celebrate another person's win.

#49. Do they have a creative outlet? If so, what is it?

Writing, writing, writing; Lilah LOVES putting a pen to paper, she loves exploring new worlds and ideas through prose. If she's not reading in her free time, she's writing, which is why she wanted to make it both a career and her full time hobby. She works full time as a investigative journalist, putting out exposes & interview pieces for clients of interest, and additionally she publishes short stories on the side.

Lilah's favorite genres/story to write: realistic horror, drama, slice of life Lilah's writing style: Prose-heavy & allegory heavy; because of Lilah's love of old romanticism era books (Shelly, Bronte, Hawthorne) she often refers to their writing/stories in her own - connecting tragedies & relationship dynamics from those said novels.

LET'S TALK ABOUT ROMANCE. @halfnvmb: 💐, 🌷, 💝 💐 - What small things go a long way for your muse? What small favors can someone do to get on their good side?

Offering Meals / Eating Together — what's that old idiom — The quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach? That's Jacket. He's very food motivated and honestly, sharing meals with him, offering to get him a meal or make him a meal often tugs at his heart strings and softens him.

Cleaning / Decorating His Spaces — if you're Jacket's partner and staying at his place often, he doesn't mind if you leave stuff there because it means you're sticking around regardless of the abandoned state he's living in. A partner adding things to his place or feeling comfortable leaving their stuff at his place warms his heart a bit.

Keeping the Relationship Superficial — don't ask about what he does, don't ask about what traumas got him here, don't dig too deeply. He's looking skin deep, and a partner whose willing to keep it that way at the start could get more if they stick around long enough.

💝 - What's their love language?

GIVING: Acts of Service, and that's saying something because Jacket's inherently selfish nature keeps him from doing anything that isn't in his own benefit. He's a great errand boy, often fixing things, grabbing groceries, and just... acting without asking when he truly loves and cares for someone. Jacket's actions speak louder than his words, so when he's in a committed relationship, acts of service is his go to.

RECEIVING - physical touch, because he's a man and basic as hell. Clearly, this doesn't simply apply to sexual touches, but he's a sucker for stray hands that hold his, or someone playing with his hair as they relax. It warms his cold, still heart.

🌷 - Are they ever been scared/are scared to fall in love?

100% Yes. There's nothing more terrifying than opening yourself to someone, to show them your wounds and for them to see how much they ooze for something deeper than the highs he chases on the daily. Falling in love will ground him - force him to acknowledge his faults and why he's making such a mess of his life. Falling in love gives him something to live for, which is why, when Cheryl died, he wanted to watch the world burn.

LET'S TALK ABOUT ROMANCE. @halfnvmb: 💘,💖,🎀 💘 - What traits personality-wise are attractive to your muse?

UNPROMPTED KINDNESS - Avian acts without wanting anything in return, and lives her life that others deserve kindness without question. So, because this is a core tenant in Avian's moral compass, she's quick to fall for others who also act with kindness in mind.

ARTISTIC/CREATIVE PASSION - While Avian isn't an artist in a traditional sense, I do see her enjoying being around people who likes artistic diciplines or if they have a passion for it. Avian sees make up, fashion, and even sees her baking/cooking/mixology hobbies as art to some degree, and any prospective partners often has that more creative mindset that is attractive to her.

REBELLIOUS SPIRIT - Now, in opposition to Avian's goody-two shoes demeanor, she does often flock to partners who have a bit of a rebellious, "bad boy/girl" aura to them. They don't have to be an actual bad person, but she enjoys people who are more explosive or outgoing than she is. People who are more willing to bend the rules for other's benefit. That kind of thing is really admirable and attractive to Avian.

💖 - What traits does your muse find physically attractive?

Avian's weird and doesn't have an explicit physical type that she dates, but I can list out the people that she had been attracted to before at one point:

TALL, TANNED/DARK, & HANDSOME/BEAUTIFUL - This is normally for masc/male presenting/identifying individuals; Avian prefers taller partners usually (5'10" - 6'5"), do not ask me why. Her short ass (5'2") likes someone who could probably pick her up! that's the only explanation I have for you. Tans/darker complexions are also a bonus for her with dark brown/black hair. Someone who walked out of a telenovela could fit this archetype for her. Very princely types.

LIPSTICK LESBIAN/BISEXUALS - this is normally for fem/female presenting/identifying individuals, but Avian loves a girly girl’s girl. Someone who she can dress up with, share clothes with, do each other makeup, etc. Avian just likes pretty girls and fumbles the bag just as much.

RED-HEADED/BLONDE HIMBOS - this precedes beyond gender; if they have red/blonde hair and maybe two functioning brain cells and a heart of gold, Avian will fall for you. Bonus points if you hit the physical aspects above too.

🎀 - Do they aim to impress their partner often? If they do, how so?

NOT REALLY; Everything Avian does for her partner is second nature, and she doesn’t have much need to continually impress them if they are in a relationship. It’s the expectation that she’ll go above and beyond to show her love to her partner, so her making bake goods for them, take care of them, etc. It’s all part of the package.
