Hey guys... So like. Did we know that before Thom Pike was a tour manager, he was a drummer in a band (Falling With Style) with 3/4 guys who would later become Holding Absence? Is this common knowledge, or have I stumbled upon gold?

I knew about Sam Hallett being in Blood Youth before working as a tech, and Thom working with them on tour, and I also did know Thom and the HA guys went way back*. But this I didn't know!! How cool!!

* Adamross and the rest of Glass Heart was also already working with him at this time btw. The connections are connecting.

Referring back to that recent post from @sleepanonymous, I am now wondering if George Lever also produced their stuff from before, given he has worked on both early Holding Absence and Sleep Token, and if that's how they all met 👀

(more ramblings bellow the cut, nothing interesting just me being insane. also i just think it's cool how all of these bands and people are connected. nothing more)

So. Timeline of events that I know of:

2015 - Falling With Style ends

2016 - Thom is now a Tour Guy ; Sleep Token and Holding Absence are born ; George Lever is producing for both bands

(and then there's that Carl Bown/B4MV thing somewhere around here)

2018 - Thom has been working as Tour Manager for Holding Absence and Blood Youth ; Adam and the (would-be) Glasses are part of his crew ; Sleep Token is touring with HA and Loathe (also G. Lever prod.) as an opening band ; enter Espera (🥹🥰💕😚💘🤭 this has nothing to with the post but I just like to think about them)

2019 - Thom is officially managing ST (probably 2018 too? idk about before) ; Glass Heart is born (again not entirely relevant but I stay on my GH propaganda always. Adam say thank you baby 💎🩵)

Then we have those collabs etc etc ; Sam leaves the band and becomes a Tech guy ; FTRB ; George stops producing (🥺🥲) ; enter Carl Bown ; ENTERS COOL MF VESSEL THE FOURTH (our ivy)

January 2023 - Sam Hallett joins the fold (🥹💙) ; the first singles of TMBE are released ; World Domination etc etc

#i came across this because i was looking for a specific photo and kinda went on an Instagram rabbit-hole #also this may be super not interesting to anyone but me but i only recently found out Micheal McGough filled in for HA for a while #even more unrelated but he just left being as an ocean and i'm emosh #also! i'm pretty sure one of the early 2017? 18? tours Thom worked on was in support of B4MV so that's also a thing?? i gues ???#to be fair. the uk rock/metal scene seems SUPER close. and given like half of these are Welsh / Welsh-based that's even a smaller circle #idk i'm literally just rambling here don't mind me too much??#(i swear i will get into HA one of these days. just don't have the patience to hear NEW new music rn)#sleep token #(technically)#if anyone is weird (derogatory) on this post i will wet your socks (turn off reblogs)

Two quick things (since I've seen confusion about one and panic around the other). Firstly, "Nothing lasts forever" has been a theme of Sleep Token's social media for a long time now (since at least the Sundowning era). Here's a screenshot of a Facebook post from November 2019 with the quote.

Sleep Token aren't ending, I promise. They're just switching gears. Sundowning + Tomb + Eden was a trilogy, and now Vessel and Sleep Token are working on something new. I'd bet money they're writing/recording new music right now. We might not see it until the end of this year but it fits their timeline of record releases.

Secondly, "Teeth of God" comes from a poem that was on a Sleep Token jumper back in Jan/Feb 2023. The full poem is as follows.

I think today I will cry about BC not making tour vlogs anymore 😔

#yes i'm still bitter about the live performance video they posted yesterday #it seemed more like something made for promotion and marketing rather than for fans to relive the moment #or for fans who couldn’t attend to experience it as if they were there #the frame wouldn’t span on one moment for longer than 1.5 seconds which made it kinda messy #and you didn't really get a good picture of what the show was actually like #they didn't show how awkwardly long it took for the curtain to be gathered and carried away 🤭#instead they showed moshpits THAT DIDN'T EVEN HAPPEN DURING THOSE SONGS 🙄#and the content you see on their band account on tiktok/ig is no different #good for promotion i guess. uninteresting for their existing fans 🥱#i get that editing vlogs is extra work (for joonas) and that some of them may not want there to be a camera on their face all the time #and that *siiiiiiiiiiigh* ''youtube is dead'' 🙄#but i don't think i would have fallen for this band half as bad as i did if it wasn't for the umk/esc vlogs and the content from summer '21 #followed by more tour vlogs from their other tours #nowadays it's only fast-paced tiktoks and promotion and joel's SUPER FUNNY filters 🙂#i would give up them all for 5-minutes of vlog-like content from the EU tour 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭#whose dick do i need to suck for this huh?#joel is it yours (as the band's social media guy)?? i will do it in the back alley of your local sushi buffet #just tell me when and i'll be there but make sure your cock's already out and hard i haven't got all day

unpopular opinion but i really miss those days when it was all about the music in taylor swift fandom

Are you confusing the trip they took in early 1984 with the tour in 1986? The 84 one seems very harmonious and productive, but on the later one things seems to have changed.

Some book or article refers to the Joe Moss thing (dont remember where) that he (and mike and andy) wanted the whole homoeroticism thing toned down a lot. Seems to woken some bad feelings among them that they should be so "flagrant". The song What do you see in him later became Wonderful Woman at I think Joes insistence. If he was a spokesperson for the other two or speaking for him self, i dont know.

The whole deal with the Joe Moss affair is so dufficult to judge 40 years later. The man has been dead for years and he didnt speak to the press about his time as manager. I never got a grasp of him as a person. Did he see Morrissey as a weak card in the line up? Did he just dislike him? Did he want The Smiths as a pure rock group who would appeal to the most neanderthal amongst us? Who knows. I never knew or understood why he suddenly left but I think if he meddled with artistic output, he wasnt going to last anyway.

#if he had purely been organising tours #cars concerts and so on he would probably been a good match for them as a group. they all seemed to need a mentor figure who could lead #them in a good direction. but if he wanted artistic control and control of appearances they made he probably overstepped.#it wasnt so uncommon to replace a singer or other member of a band in those days. half of manchester claims to have been a early sniths #*smiths. i could be a clash of personalities or power struggle. very hard to say. johnny rogan wrote a book about different rock managers #and their role and manager style. why does every thing cost so much yet pay is so little.

#i was thinking of picking up a touring gig this summer bc #i really want to be not in danger of homelessness during my masters and it would be good to have more in savings #like any little bit more… but like the pay per tour for this place im interviewing with is $50 #and it costs me $20 to get into the city #and that $50 does not include tip but still there’s only one tour a day available #so before anything half my pay is going to transport #grrrrrrrrrr i am so tired and i haven’t even done anything #personal #vent
