38. ... because they're running out of time

"You shouldn't be here." Derek didn't have to look up to know who it was, after all, he had spent hours just a week ago washing his blood from his hands. "I'm sure you've got better things to do."

He could hear as Jackson stepped down into the subway station and Derek finally glanced over his shoulder to see him in shorts and an athletic top. Dark bags were under his eyes and he looked just as scared as he always did when Derek was in the room.

"I died." Jackson said finally, his voice carrying that indignant tone as always.

"Welcome to the club, sorry your monogramed jacket isn't ready yet."

Jackson huffed. "My parents are sending me to boarding school. Plane leaves in three hours."

Derek shrugged his shoulders but didn't reply. In short, the Whittemores were probably the smartest people in this whole damn town. With the Alpha Pack coming, Boyd and Erica missing, and Scott renouncing anything supernatural in the clearest way possible, running seemed like the best option.

"I'm being forced to leave and you don't say anything? What kind of Alpha lets his beta just be taken?"

That made Derek stop and turn back to Jackson. He stepped forward and Jackson stepped back - like a dance - until his back was pressed against a rusted subway car and Derek was looming over him.

"Weren't you the one who told me to fuck off? What was it... oh, ' just because you gave me "the bite" doesn't mean I'm part of your little wolf-pack.' Right? Said something about not being my pet..."

He could hear Jackson's heart skip, fear twisting through his whole body just like the night he had sank his teeth into Jackson's side. Derek could feel his fangs itching at the memory - you never forget your first.

"That was before. When -"

"When you weren't being shipped off like Sara Crewe to boarding school?" Jackson's face scrunched at the reference and Derek realized it was lost on him. "Just go home, Jackson. Pack your bag, leave Beacon Hills behind. Get what you wanted after all this time."

"I want this." Jackson's voice stopped, lip quivering as he cut off mid sentence again.

Derek's eyebrow rose slowly. Was Jackson finally wanting to be in the pack? Had dying changed his tune or was he - like others - only wanting to use Derek for his own agenda. "Want what?"

Silence fell over the two and Derek heard a buzz from his pocket. Time was up.

"A real master... An Alpha... You." Jackson's voice was soft, barely above a whisper, but Derek felt them crawl over his skin and sink through his body.

Derek rand a hand through Jackson's hair and gripping it tight, pulling his throat back before pressing a soft kiss against trembling lips and sinking his teeth into the bared flesh.

It was too little too late, but at least he could leave him with something.

No, Jackson is still with Ethan (who's not in the movie but who is mentioned) and doesn't get any other love interests.

That's just silly. We all know Jackson became Derek's mate and the movie is just someone's suggestion. Wild.
