Melda

When you wake up and sit up from horror, his hand instinctively tenses around you.

You take a short, almost too short breath to make yourself feel better. Yet yours fingers are sweaty, your back is sweaty, your waist is sticky from sweat. Too warm, sicky warm.

When you keeps breathing, still with small breaths, his eyelashes tremble, betraying their owner’s. He is waking up or even has already waken up.

- Is… everything okay… melda…?

He looks at you sleepy, yet as attentively as possible. When he notices how warm you are he immediately lets you go to help to move off the blanket.

- Shh… you will be fine. Just breathe.

He adjusts his messy hair behind his ears so they won’t block the view him and he sits up.

Your breath is still swallowing. Yet despite feeling guilty for disturbing him, you are feeling the hope. Just small. Small enough.

When you manages to breathe more steadily, he asks in quiet but calm voice:

- What are you feeling now?

Panic attack? Or maybe some physical symptoms of…?

He watches you carefully as you answer and he offers:

- lets walk just a bit. Do you think it will help you, melda?

Maybe it will. You nod and soon you two get up. He is next to you, just holding a little your elbow.

During your small walk around the house, when the feverish warmness has just been sponged by chill air, he offers you his hug.

Sooo this year marks the 50th anniversary of JRR Tolkien's death. Both the Hobbit and the Lord of The Rings have always been very important books for me : both for the emotional growth that they instilled , and for being the literary cosmos to which I return every time life puts too much pressure on me. So It seemed right to pick one of my favourite scenes from The Fellowship and Illustrate it. This part conveys a great sense of safety and calm whenever I read itor listen to it,and that's why it is particularly dear to me.
