Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Nagi Yanagi to Perform New Themes for Hakyu Houshin Engi Anime
The official website for Hakyū Hōshin Engi, the television anime of Ryu Fujisaki's Hoshin Engi manga, revealed the opening and ending theme song artists for the anime's second cour on Monday. Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas will return to perform the new opening theme "Treasure in Your Hands," and Nagi Yanagi will return to perform the new ending theme "Mukei no Outline" (Intangible Outline). The new themes will debut in the 14th episode.
The anime premiered on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and BS11 on January 12, and then on AT-X on January 13. The show is streaming in Japan exclusively on AbemaTV.

Watched the first episode of the Houshin Engi reboot. My friends and I were obsessed with the manga back in high school, and I still remember us passing the manga around at lunch and fangirling over it (fun fact: Houshin Engi is the first fandom I wrote a fanfic for; it sucked, which is why it’s not online, but everyone has to start somewhere, right?)
My impression of the reboot: Surprisingly I thought the first episode was alright, despite a lot of stuff getting cut. Part of it is probably because it's been ages since I last read the beginning of the manga, and they kept enough of the main points in the intro that I at least didn't miss any of the cut material. The art is pretty close to Ryu Fujisaki's original style, clown shoes, giant gloves and all, and it brings back a lot of nostalgia, because there really isn't any other show with a design like this. Some people may find it ugly and/or weird, but it is pretty darn unmistakable. I will say though, that I wasn't expecting them to start the story with a fight between Bunchuu and Taikoubo, but I suppose they're trying to show off the exciting stuff now to rope in potential new viewers? But with no context I think it's more confusing than enticing... The only thing I am a bit disappointed with right now is the opening, and it's not necessarily because it's electronic music (after all, the manga did have a sci-fi edge to it), but more because the lyrics are sung so incoherently that I can't tell what language they're in. As much as I hate on the old anime adaptation for cutting short the story and giving it a nonsensical original ending, it had great OP and ED songs. My guess is we'll get to hear the ED next week, and it'll hopefully be a better fit for the show.

DO NOT REPOST!
Years ago I found this drawing of Shinkohyou in modern clothing and I wanted to do something similar to it so here it is. His hair took forever to do! I had to redo it a dozen in one times just to get a style I actually thought was remotely decent! Ultimately, it made me realize how much I hate doing fringe style hair, despite I really do like that style. It's just a pain to draw.... I added a little Kokutenko to his shirt and his earrings to make him more recognizable.

Winter 2018, end of season
I didn’t really watch anything week to week (too much DC instead), but I decided to catch up with with what I had left in my queue before the new season.
Toji no Miko (ep. 12) - Ongoing. This show is basically “what I watched, what I expected, what I got.” Not checking any of the promotional materials, I expected mostly school hijinks with some magic swords on the side. I got government conspiracies and cute girls as fugitives instead. It was fun. Nothing special, but fun. The CG battles were pretty awkward tho.
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens (ep. 12) - Complete. In the beginning, more sex and sexual violence than I prefer. This also underscores the complete lack of women in the cast (side character token loli aside). The first arc is basically “this dude tortures and kills women, watch all these other men punish him.” But it’s stylish in that “criminal underbelly” way and it’s paced well. It’s surprisingly easy to watch. I also admit the, uh, friendship feels are quite nice. Banda and Lin grew on me.
How to Keep a Mummy (ep. 12) - Complete. The cutest show. It’s basically about having supernatural pets, but it’s just... so adorable. Everyone is so cute. Wow.
Houshin Engi Hakyu (ep. 2) - Dropped. For some reason, Crunchy would freeze every time it reached the second commercial of ep2. I took it as a sign.
