Bonjour à tous, the sun is streaming in the window and has managed to clear the frost which arrived through the night. The temperature is currently 5c but due to achieve around 13c.
So my ex-boss had a birthday this week, I hope you celebrated it in style, sir!
The meal last Sunday was ”different” we started with mache, beetroot, apple with a hint of garlic, followed by sanglier 🐗, lapin 🐇 potatoes, onion and pumpkin, surprisingly tasty and my first time for both meats. This was then followed by the cheese course, a lovely comté and a blue veined cheese (not sure what) which was delicious, then iles flottantes and along with the tea a piece of my date and walnut cake. There were three for lunch, Anie’s friend Monique, who I have met before. It made for a lovely time, however, when Anie lit her fire I knew it was time for me to leave as I could feel my eyelids growing heavy, and could easily have fallen asleep!
This week has been about getting outside and having a walk. I seem to wander the same routes but you can always see something different.
I went to the cinema, the movie was in French, no subtitles. I did enjoy it and understood quite a lot. There were quite a few people in for the 2pm screening, afterwards I paid a visit to the bar for a lovely cup of coffee.
I had an appointment at the hairdresser, as I felt better after a trim, I called at the bar again…… I think you can see how I have spent most afternoons this week!
My friend Marie-Therese called for coffee, cake and bavarder, then she left to go and take her French class. I also had my knitting workshop with the refugee ladies and I am aiming to get the blanket “backed” before I see the ladies this coming Friday.
Talking of blankets, I have eight more rows to knit and the second baby blanket will be finished, just a little hat to knit and I can then deliver then to Monique for her twin grandchildren.
I contacted my young friend, Pauline, yesterday to see if she would be free either of the next couple of Sundays. I am going to go to Paris and we can have a look at an exhibition or two. It has been agreed for 27 February.
I had a surprise video call with my grandchildren “The Daddy and The Mummy” too. It is just so wonderful to see them all, chat and blow kisses to the children. Exciting news is that ”The Mummy” has been accepted by her preferred University, so from September she will be an étudiante.
” The Paralegal “ has had a busy week and has done a few hours overtime to keep up with the amount of work. He is still managing to go out with friends, which is very good. As we know ” all work and no play! ”
Apart from meeting up with Pauline, I am hoping to meet up with my Finnish friend again. I messaged her yesterday and she had been to Paris for the day with her eldest son. Having this wonderful railcard that knocks 70% off the price of a ticket at the weekend is really worth investing in.
Today I will be having the mammoth telephone call with my friends in Bristol. It is amazing what we find to talk about really, but we manage. In these strange times where people are still wary about going out and about too much, it’s good to chat with someone who has different news and views.
Oh I almost forgot, I woke up yesterday morning to a message from ”The Daddy ”, it was more information on my Great Uncle, who having emigrated to Canada, enlisted in Victoria BC in 1915 and came to France to fight in the trenches. Unfortunately, he was killed it says “ He was bending over a wounded comrade as he was leaving the trenches when he was hit by an exploding shell.” He is buried here in France, we had pieced some information together but this was interesting to read a bit more about him and to see another photograph. This poem just caught my eye, here is an excerpt from The Brook by Alfred Tennyson
I come from haunts of coot and hern, I make a sudden sally And sparkle out among the fern, To bicker down a valley.
I will bid you all a ”bon weekend”

My brain is void of any questions as of right now, so this is kinda basic (sorry!) but what is one interesting fact about each of your OCs?
Oooohoho, yeah. These guys have some History, so this'll be fun. Putting this one under a cut.
Francesca "Frankie" Falkenrath
The reasoning behind her name is because I created her as the unisex protagonist of a musical idea I had when I was 15/16. I was looking at a list of gender neutral names, saw and liked the name Frankie, looked through surnames starting with "f" bc I wanted the name to be alliterative, found the surname "Falkenrath" in a list of German last names, and picked it bc it essentially means "council of falcons" which is badass as hell. By the time I made her into a non-unisex character, I'd gotten so attached to the name that I ended up keeping it.
Damien Hall
(Fair warning, a lot of this trivia is gonna be name-based) I originally came up the name "Damien Hall" for the male lead of a musical I came up with after seeing Phantom of the Opera in Cleveland when I was 14. He was an angel that guarded over a massive cemetery and used this big church bell to calm restless spirits, and he ended up falling in love with a recently orphaned girl whose singing also calmed spirits. I ended up passing the name around a lot of stories before finally using it for my favorite veterinarian boy <3
Det. Shiloh Hawthorne
Y'know how I said I originally created Frankie for a musical idea I had? Shiloh also originated from that idea. Basically, the plot would've been about Frankie being murdered, acting as the narrator while her boyfriend (then named Elliot) tried to solve her murder, on top of having her own subplot about coming to terms with her death. Helping Frankie do that would've been Shiloh, then simply known as "The Reaper". He wasn't a detective back then, he was an agent of the Grim Reaper. Also, he had a crush on Frankie, but I nixed that bc ehhhhhh... I ended up working that "used to be a Reaper in a previous draft of the story" detail into his backstory, making him a Reaper-turned-detective.
Det. Chester "Chess" Murdoch
Probably the oldest character here in terms of when I created them! I've had this dude around since I was 10-11 years old! Back then, I wanted to be an animator, and I had an idea for a cartoon called "Chess and Alfie". It was about a human detective named Chess who solved cases alongside his talking tuxedo cat Alfie. Obviously, Alfie was eventually replaced with his twin sister Abby, though that happened way later. I don't remember what his last name was back then, so I just gave him the surname Murdoch bc it sounded cool.
Det. Abigail "Abby" Murdoch
Again, I created Abby looooong after Chess, ironic considering she's the older sibling in-story. I vaguely remember writing that Chess and Alfie-era Chess had an older sister, but that was such a long time ago that I could be misremembering.
Victoria Waterford
Not the most interesting fact, but those of y'all who were here when I first introduced these characters may remember that she was originally a baker instead of a hairdresser!
Robin Barrows
Was originally the protagonist of a different story idea I once had called "Trackside Town", about a girl trying to find her abducted parents in a mysterious, run-down city inhabited by monsters. Their last name was "O'Malley" back then, I ended up changing it to "Barrows" because I had the Clock Tower series of games on the brain at the time.
Xavier Lewis-Hall
He came about a bit later than some of the other characters. Like, pre-Mary Ann and Lucille, but still sometime after the original 8. I'd been requesting asks abt my then-recently-introduced-to-tumblr characters, and somebody (I believe it was @cutter-kirby ?) sent in an ask about which of my characters would tell/fall for the updog joke. I mentioned that Damien would tell it to "one of his kid cousins". Then I came up with the name "Xavier" for the oldest of said kid cousins for a post about how Frankie and Damien met, and I ended up liking him so much that I made him a fully-fledged character.
Jason Fitzpatrick
His name was originally "Freddie Fitzpatrick", and he was the husband of the main character of another musical idea I had (of which there were clearly a lot), simply entitled "Claire". Unlike the Jason we know now, Freddie was a sweetheart who loved his wife a whole lot. After reusing the "Fitzpatrick" name for this story, I changed his first name to "Jason" bc that was the name of one of my bullies in my last year of public school. Also bonus fact, I'm pretty sure that "Claire" musical is indirectly the reason I ended up dream-casting Lauren Lopez as Frankie, because I had also dream-casted the titular character of Claire as Lauren. Once I ditched the Claire idea, I ended up merging a lot of her character into Frankie, so uh,,, yeah,,,
Christina Baxter
...I honestly don't have much in the way of facts about her. Oops.
Skylar Fitzpatrick
His "seeing and talking to ghosts" thing was originally part of Robin's character. Skylar was created to flesh out Jason a bit more, and I gave him the seer traits instead bc I needed a way to justify his presence in the story. Though admittedly, his existence has had me struggling to figure out Robin's role in the story for ages now.
Hunter Luzzatto
Hunter's an odd case bc he technically has two different origins. His name came from the Trackside Town story that Robin was originally from, but the character concept (originally named Parker) came from an early draft of Frankie and Shiloh's origin (then called "Who Killed Frankie Falkenrath?"). I had an idea where the band of that show would also be characters in the show, and proto-Hunter was the guitarist of the band. He was a lot less antagonistic then, being more of an active ally to Frankie and proto-Shiloh.
Mary Ann Fleisher
So, you remember how I named Paul and Emma's landlord in DTfiles "Ernie Fleischer"? Believe it or not, Ernie was created a few months before Mary Ann. I just used a different spelling of his last name for Mary Ann bc hey why not?
Lucille Dagwood
Fun little trivia for you HoHF fans, her first name was originally "Harriet". I changed it bc I already had a ghost character with an H name, and I'd already long since established Hunter's character at that point. I decided I'd rather change the name of this new character than the one of an already established character.

The Duchess in Red Valentino For Casablanca Arrival
New Post has been published on https://harryandmeghan.xyz/the-duchess-in-red-valentino-for-casablanca-arrival/
The Duchess in Red Valentino For Casablanca Arrival
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began a three-day visit to Morocco this evening when they arrived at Casablanca airport for an official welcome.
It marks one of several trips abroad the Duchess has made since officially becoming a member of the Royal family nine months ago. Harry and Meghan visited Ireland, Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand on behalf of her Majesty in 2018, and their visit to Morocco marks their first joint trip of 2019.
The Duchess who is expecting her first child in April is said to be feeling very well and eager to work as close to her due date as possible. Meghan has just returned from a visit to New York where several of her closest friends hosted a baby shower. The Palace told the media “medical provisions have been made” for Meghan in the event she requires care.
The visit to the North African country comes at the request of the government. Given the tumultuous unfolding of Brexit, we’ve seen members of the Royal family deployed abroad to lend a touch of “soft diplomacy” to strengthen ties. The Evening Standard reports Prime Minister Theresa May spoke about the “incredible” trading potential during a trade mission to Africa last year: “A more prosperous, growing and trading Africa is in all of our interests and its incredible potential will only be realised through a concerted partnership between governments, global institutions and business. As we prepare to leave the European Union, now is the time for the UK to deepen and strengthen its global partnerships.”
The Duke and Duchess arrived over an hour late, after 9 pm, due to a delayed Royal Air Maroc commercial flight. A team of nine accompanied them, including two assistant private secretaries, three members of the communications team, a digital officer, palace assistant, programme coordinator and a hairdresser.
The Duke and Duchess were greeted by British Ambassador to Morocco Thomas Reilly and his wife at the airport. Mr Reilly told reporter Victoria Murphy: “When we began planning for this visit I had a very clear view in my mind of the story we wanted this visit to tell. In a fortunate stroke of serendipity we found the story fits almost identically with interests which are close to Their Royal Highnesses hearts. The Duke and Duchess will be shown the transformational impact of community-based programmes and Morocco’s changing attitudes towards women. There is much more to do in this arena. But it is clear that attitudes are changing fast – as demonstrated by the influential role that women are increasingly playing in modern Morocco’s sporting, social, political, commercial and cultural scenes.” Below, the Ambassador standing behind Meghan.
The Ambassador has done an absolutely outstanding job promoting the visit, attending rehearsals and assisting in the organisation of the itinerary in recent weeks.
Mr Reilly was very impressed with Harry and Meghan 🙂
Prince Harry inspected a Guard of Honour.
An arrival video.

Casablanca is a modern city by the sea and often the starting point for visitors looking for the cosmopolitan and economic heartbeat of the country. According to Wiki Travel: “The modern city of Casablanca was founded by Berber fishermen in the 10th Century BC and was subsequently used by the Phoenicians, Romans, and the Merenids as a strategic port called Anfa. The Portuguese destroyed it and rebuilt it under the name Casa Branca, only to abandon it after an earthquake in 1755. The Moroccan sultan rebuilt the city as Daru l-Badya and it was given its current name of Casablanca by Spanish traders who established trading bases there. The French occupied the city in 1907, establishing it as a protectorate in 1912 and starting construction of the ville nouvelle, however it gained independence with the rest of the country in 1956.”
Of course for so many of us, Casablanca will always be synonymous with the 1942 classic romantic movie starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as former lovers reunited in the city during World War II. Fans of the movie (if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it as a must-see Hollywood great) may be interested to hear Rick’s Café, which was designed to recreate and emulate the café from the movie, opened in the city in 2004. It’s one of the go-to places in the city.
A very sweet shot of Harry and Meghan leaving the airport.
Unusually, Kensington Palace didn’t share a public press release regarding the itinerary. Thankfully, the reporters were on hand to share relevant information. Several of you were in touch to ask if we would see the Moroccan monarchy involved in the trip. The media were informed earlier today that yes we will.
During their stay, Harry and Meghan will be staying at the royal residence in Rabat where they were greeted by fifteen-year-old Crown Prince Moulay Hassan. Despite the fact the heir is only a teenager, he’s been training and preparing for his future for some time. He’s greeted a number of officials, been involved in important visits and represented the family at funerals abroad.
The couple were offered milk and dates – a traditional Moroccan welcome.
On Monday afternoon, the Duke and Duchess will have an audience with King Mohammad VI of Morocco. The spotlight on Morocco, with a recent State visit by Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Leitizia, and Harry and Meghan’s visit, has led to international media requesting information on the King’s wife Princess Lalla Salma. There have been numerous reports claiming the couple divorced last year, however requests for official confirmation have been met with silence. The Princess has not been seen officially since late 2017. International media believe the King has custody of their children but she sees them often. Emily Andrews tweeted it’s understood she’s on the Greek Island of Kea with her daughter Princess Lalla Khadija. Below, the King and Princess with Crown Prince Moulay Hassan in 2014.
The Duchess looked regal in a bespoke red Valentino dress with an embroidered capelet. The cut and silhouette of the piece makes it an ideal choice for maternity wear. It’s one of Meghan’s best maternity looks to date. The shade of red looked lovely on her and provided a very nice sartorial nod to her host country. Not only is red the primary colour of the Moroccan flag, it represents hardiness, bravery, strength and valour.
The UFO No More team noted Meghan’s dress is based on pieces from the 2013 Spring Collection.
A closer look at the cape detail.
Meghan carried Valentino’s Small Vring Smooth Crossbody Bag (with thanks to Meghan’s Mirror). The bag features a metal logo, adorned with a ring and tie. The bag retails for $2,145 on the Valentino Website. It’s available in medium at Bergdorf Goodman.
Meghan carried matching gloves.
Anne suggests Meghan wore Gianvito Rossi satin pumps.
And accessorised with her Natalie Marie Diamond Sun Studs.
Tomorrow’s Sunday Telegraph leads with a nod to Casablanca; Here’s looking at you, Duchess.
A look at the itinerary for tomorrow:
Harry and Meghan will visit the Atlas Mountains to visit organisations Education For All and Lycee Asni to hear more about their efforts to educate girls.
At the Education for All boarding house in Asni, Harry will present founder Michael McHugo with his MBE.
That evening, they will attend a reception at the British Ambassador’s residence.
What do you think of Meghan’s arrival look? Source: http://madaboutmeghan.blogspot.com/2019/02/first-look-sussexes-arrive-in-casablanca.html

How to Choose the Right Men's Haircut for Your Hair Type
Finding the perfect haircut can be a game-changer, enhancing your overall appearance and boosting your confidence. However, choosing the right men's haircut goes beyond trends; it's about understanding your hair type and face shape. In this blog, we'll explore how to choose the ideal haircut for your hair type, ensuring that you step out of the barber shop in Victoria, BC, with a style that suits you perfectly.
Understanding Your Hair Type
Before you visit the barber in Victoria, BC, it's essential to know what your hair is like. Whether you have straight, wavy, curly, or oily hair, your hair's natural texture plays a significant role in determining the most suitable haircut. Hair types react differently to various hairstyles, so choosing one that enhances your hair's natural qualities is imperative.
The Right Haircut for Straight Hair
For those with straight hair, precision cuts and well-defined lines work wonders for their style. Classic styles like the crew cut or the pompadour complement straight hair beautifully. These styles maintain the hair's neat appearance and are relatively easy to manage.
Wavy Hair and Its Versatility
Wavy hair offers a blend of texture and volume, making it highly versatile for various styles. Consider a textured crop or a tousled quiff to make the most of your waves. These styles embrace the natural movement of your hair while adding a touch of modernity.
Curly Hair, Embrace the Curls
Curly hair brings its charm and character. Opt for longer styles that embrace the curls, like the curly undercut or the curly afro. These styles allow your curls to shine and create a unique, eye-catching look.
Coily Hair and Bold Choices
Coily hair is full of volume and personality. Embrace boldness with styles like the high-top fade or the short curly afro. These cuts enhance your hair's texture and create a distinctive appearance that exudes confidence.
Matching Your Face Shape
Besides your hair type, your face shape plays a pivotal role in selecting the right haircut. Certain styles can complement your features more than others, whether you have a round, oval, square, or heart-shaped face. A skilled barber can guide you on which styles best suit your face shape, enhancing your overall look.
Conclusion
Choosing the right men's haircut in Victoria, BC, for your hair type and face shape is a journey of self-discovery and self-expression. It's about embracing and enhancing your unique features through the power of a well-suited haircut. When in doubt, consult a professional barber who understands the nuances of different hair types and styles.
At Nanda Barber, we craft tailored haircuts that reflect your personality and style.
