Guatemalteca - Princesita
This video is a dramatisation of the meaning of the song which plays on the soundtrack as the silent action takes place on-screen.
Guatemalteca
Solamente una guatemalteca
Guatemalteca
Que belleza guatemalteca!
Que belleza en la selva
Cosecha de las frutas y todas las flores
Las frutas ella pone en las cestas
Y las flores ella pone en el pelo
A close-up of the Princess, dressed in traditional Guatemalan peasant clothes, in colourful red and blue huipil and corte, her hair full of flowers of different colours and her basket full of typical Guatemalan wild fruits: carabolas, guanabanas, bananas, avocados and papayas. We see her picking fruit from trees by jumping in the air to pull them down, with both hands if necessary, sometimes sampling the smaller ones as she walks between trees. She watches a coral snake slither between trees and squats to stare at some colourful insects marching in a row, as she grins.
él es uno rico cubano
A handsome, fashionably-dressed man, with black hair and moustache, a cigarette dangling from his lips, is driving in the road. From his point of view we see the Princess, just off-road, squatting with her basket of fruit, out the window of his SUV. He lets the vehicle roll to a stop.
Vivendo en "el valle del paradiso"
En America dond’ ella gustaria voy
Scenes from the rich man’s life in America play across the screen, with his friends, in bars, discos, hotels and buffet restaurants, with many different women at his side in different scenes, everyone dressed fashionably, in one scene smoking marijuana and in another sharing a hookah, all food and cocktails the highest-priced and most exotic.
él dice "vamonos" y ella va
The man walks over to the Princess and holds his hand out. She looks up innocently and then stands up, dropping her basket and the fruit rolls on the ground. She walks, like his Queen, to the car, where she sits in the front seat, next to him.
Una guatemalteca en el carro del montero
Close-up of the “Montero” insignia on the back of the car as it drives away.
Cartoon of man, looking like the driver, hunting in the mountains, shooting beautiful girls, who do not die but faint, for him to carry them over his shoulder to a zoo, where he puts them in separate cages, each one with her name featured prominently, plus one empty one with the name “Princesita”.
Pero ese "valle del paradiso"
No ese la clase de paraiso
Scene of same car, going through a gate and up a long drive to a 5-story mansion, completely modern and surrounded by a high, steel fence. The man and the Princess leave the car to his driver, who parks it in a carport with five other such vehicles. The Princess, still taken by the hand, is escorted into the mansion by the man.
Que pensabas qu' era
En su casa de alli hay
The Princess, in a luxurious nightgown, sneaks out of her room and goes from door-to-door, looking through the keyhole and looking shocked each time.
Hmm . . . Que?
Having finished looking in all the keyholes, the Princess puts her index finger on her chin and looks up, querulously, in a large, well-decorated and well-lit, but empty dance hall.
Mexicana, guatemalteca
As the punk music starts and the Princess mentions each girl’s nationality, that girl comes out of her room in her national costume and joins the Princess and other girls, dancing in the dance hall to the music, the Princess singing along with the soundtrack.
Una Cubana, un' Americana
Colombiana, peruana
Ecuadoreana, argentina
Paraguaya, uruguaya
Dominicana, venezolana
Boliviana, chileana
Canaria, andaluza
Catalana, balear-ah!
Asturiana, Cathtilliana
Una vasca
Para! (shouted)
Veinte otras chavas - puchica! (shouted)
The music stops and all the dancers freeze. The Princess walks around counting the girls and then announces her total.
Y él dice
"No problema - it's OK
The man from the car comes into the dance hall. The punk music starts again and he sings, dancing with the Princess as the other girls dance.
Por que t' eres numero uno anyway"
Pero ella dice (spoken)
Si, soy el uno
Princess twirls away from the man, speaks and sings, pointing at another girl with each line.
Si, ell' es el uno
Si, ell' es el uno
Si, ell' es el uno
Si, ell' es el uno - Para! (shouted)
Close-up of Princess speaking directly into the camera through cupped hands.
Y luego ella le da (Spoken)
The Princess walks up to the man from the car, with a spring in her step, smiling, confidently and when she is close enough, shouts
Un gran cachimbazo!
and punches him in the nose, causing it to bleed and the man to hold it, saying, “O, mi amor, mi chiquitita!”
The Princess turns her back on him, figuratively washing her hands as she walks to the front of the dance hall. Ojo de Cristo! Puede seas tu
Guatemalteca viviend' e'l zoo (repeat 3 times, then)
The Princess, at the front of the dance hall, sings with the soundtrack and leads the other girls in dancing.
Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, uno, dos, tres, cuatro, uno, dos, tres, cuatro,Para! (shouted)--END-
All the girls in the dance hall, including the Princess, count on their fingers and on “Para!” the Princess puts her hand up like a stop sign.
The camera does a close-up into the palm of the Princess’ hand, then fades to black.

This shrub will grow to a height of 5 meters high and 4 meters large. It gives delicious fruits. Annona squamosa can even be grown in a pot. Annona squamosa has a cylindrical trunk and wears big oblong leaves. The flowers are pale green or yellow and have a strong sweet smell. The fruits are called sugar apples. Here is a popular tree that is widely cultivated for its edible delicious fruit. It is a small, semi-deciduous tree or shrub with broad, spreading branches. It can grow up to 8 m tall. The leaves are thin, simple, with fine hairs underneath, and arranged alternately. The 6-10cm long fruits are sweet and creamy, and consumed as a dessert or used as an ingredient in making ice cream, jellies, etc. Their skin is thick and green and covered with scales. The flesh of the fruit is white, creamy, and sweet. It contains black pips of 1 cm in diameter. Annona blooms all year long in tropical regions. In milder climates, it blooms in spring and at the start of summer. It is a deciduous plant, which means that it loses its leaves when it rests. The plant will take 3 to 4 years before it produces fruits. Hardiness zones 10-11 (1°C/35°F,4°C/40°F) in winter. A small, spreading tree with curious-looking, green fruits about the size of a large apple. The inside of the fruit holds numerous blackish seeds embedded in creamy, soft, white flesh that is very sweet and wonderfully aromatic and is considered one of the world's tastiest fruits. It is thought to originate in Central and South America but is widespread in cultivation today. It is best adapted to tropical climates and is the most heat-tolerant in the genus. The plant dies when the temperature is below 0°C. Annona needs to be in a situation away from the wind. They are not rustic plants. The plant thrives in full sun. Watering is done once a week and abundantly. Also, remember to cut the dead branches or the ones that are too low. Keep it far from the cold and the wind. The Annona can be grown in a pot. Also used medicinally in treating diarrhea, dysentery, colds, chills, rheumatism, and sleeplessness. It also has an anticancer function and it lowers uric acid levels in the blood. The seeds, when heated, can produce oil that can be used against agricultural pests. However, it should be noted that the seeds, leaves, and roots are poisonous due to the occurrence of alkaloids and hydrocyanic acid in such plant parts. *We can not take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants. Always seek advice from a professional before using a plant medicinally. It is cold and frost-sensitive and requires a tropical or near-tropical climate. Though it is drought tolerant, it will not produce fruit well during droughts. Not particular to soil and has performed well on sand, oolitic limestone, and heavy loam with good drainage. Waterlogging is intolerable. The tree is shallow-rooted and doesn't need deep soil. Today’s Poem
Mountain Building --Victor Hernández Cruz
The mountain have changed to buildings Is this hallway the inside of a stem That has a rattling flower for a head, Immense tree bark with roots made out of Mailboxes? In the vertical village moons fly out of Apartment windows and though what you See is a modern city The mountain’s guitars pluck inside It’s agriculture taking an elevator Through urban caves which lead to Paths underground They say Camuy To Hutuado Taino subground like the IRT in Constant motion
The streets take walks in your dark eyes Seashell necklaces make music in the Origin of silence What are we stepping on? Pineapple Fields frozen with snow Concrete dirt later the rocks of the Atlantic The sculpture of the inner earth Down there where you thought only worms And unnamed crocodiles parade Lefty stands on a corner Analyzing every seed Squeezing the walls as he passes Through at the bottom of the basement Where the boiler makes heat The flesh arrives out of a hole In the mountain that goes up like a Green wall Bodies come in making maraca sounds An invisible map out of the flora Bees arrive in the vicinity and sing Chorus while woody woodpeckers make Women out of trees and place flowers On their heads Waterfalls like Hurakan’s faucets Caress the back of Yuquiyu God to all whose tongues have the Arawak’s echoes
Hallway of graffiti like the master Cave drawings made by owls when they Had hands You see the fish with pyramids inside Their stomachs Hanging near the doorways where San Lazaro turns the keys Villa Manhattan Breeze of saint juice made from Coconuts Slide down the stairs to your Belly and like a hypnotized guanabana You float down the street And win all your hands at dominoes
The Moros live on the top floor eating Roots and have a rooster on the roof Africans import okra from the bodega The Indians make a base of guava On the first floor The building is spinning itself into a spiral of salsa Heaven must be calling or the Residents know the direction Because there is an upward pull If you rise too quickly from your seat You might have to comb a spirit’s Hair They float over the chimneys Arrive through the smog Appear through the plaster of Paris It is the same people in the windowed Mountains.

A lot of people prefer to have Soursop in their diet instead of facing the unbearable chemo that results in hair loss and fragility.
