Xdinary lore

I'm excluding performance videos here for obvious reasons, and I generalized the b-sides sometimes as they do not always add much to the plot. This does not include interpretation of the lyrics.

Happy Death Day

Happy Death day is Xdinary heroes' first interaction with ♭form. The clown-esque setting is the real world and every other set we see is in the VR world. This is also proven by their accompanying performance videos, where one is called the offline mode and the other the online mode (which this first photo here just further solidifies).

So we see them just doing their thing, until surveillance-type drones appear, which bear the message 'unusual action detected'.

We them see the boys trying to argue with one of the bots, which soon after explodes. I try not to read too much into how and why the thing explodes because I can't really explain it. But it leads to the fact that XH can now take their instruments again and keep performing after being hold up by the bots. Though the system further upholds them (or maybe it is their own fault for ignoring the warnings?), and quickly errors soon after.

Though right after this shot we also see that they have started to blow up on ♭form. Users seem to like what they're doing a lot.

Which just motivates them to reconnect once more.

Something which I also mentioned in the general theme/story part is when we see them reconnect we also get a flash of another warning. The error which we actually see on screen warns them 'please do not attempt to perform' (I actually don't have a screenshot for this because it is so hard to get in frame let alone read, so you just have to trust me on this one!), which they of course ignore. We also see them expanding their ensemble space because of the hype they received from their fans, as we now have a new location/set where they perform (with the white outfits). This location also looks quite like a withered basement, which leads me to believe that they're trying to continue as a group more quietly.

A scene that I really like from this is where we zoom out a bit to reveal all kinds of avatars from users cheering them on (which I never noticed until recently). I also love how we can even see their user names floating above their heads.

At the very end of the MV, we zoom out of a shot that looks quite similar to the picture above, and watch from a pc screen. This pc screen first displays the ♭-note (the ♭form logo) and then we see multiple other screen flashing by with the same logo. And then after we see a screen flash an error message.

So in general this is about them coming together, and already meeting errors in the system, whilst also reaching a level of success.

Test Me + Strawberry Cake

Now this MV is basically summarized by the first shot.

And also a bit by the second one.

We see that within ♭form a competition is going on, a kind of battle of the bands. However, this system is rigged, because the winner has already been decided. This we see right in the frame after the one I screenshotted here, because the trophy for this match already bears a name on it (and it also says so on screen).

In the scene right after, when the music starts to play for the first time, we see that XH fails during the qualifying round by playing a 'wrong' note. And also they throw a small fit which is just funny.

So then comes the plan to rig the whole tournament. Next, we get to their kind of headquarters where they're planning out where the building is and how to get in and stuff. A really cool shot I found is that they even tried objecting before planning out of this stuff, as they send an objection.

And then this is part of the planning board in the next shot.

Also I'm obsessed with this frame where there plan is drawn out and it is literally what they do later in the video so I'm putting it here for appreciation and vibes.

This one as well just for pure appreciation.

So then they board the train/metro to get to the location, which is also the set they used to film strawberry cake in (and very maybe it is also the set used in Maniac by Stray Kids). This train is obviously in hands of ♭form because there are posters of the character that is destined to win (called roboctopus). Then their plan continues, as O.de distracts the guards and the rest sneak in.

The goal is to then put their name in the bracket which they fulfill by hacking into it. I kept pausing the shot where you see the hacking thing happen and I just happen to see this code. I still don't know the meaning but I thought it is nice to include anyway.

There is also another warning message before it says that their hacking was a success, but I cannot read what the text below it says for the life of me.

So then we all probably know what happens: they play against roboctopus and win the contest. Though the fact that XH rigged the contest leaves ♭form with an easy counteraction: Xdinary Heroes are now wanted criminals.

Also this is the first time we have the outro where the last text on screen is cut, which used to be a spoiler towards their next era.

Overall, Test Me is the group expanding their ensemble space, gaining more fame and at the same time gaining more hate from the authorities.

Also a small and random detail is that there is a lot of energy drinks and vending machines with Xtreme High (XH).

Hair Cut + X-MAS

Here we enter a new environment, ♭form's amusement park called dream garden, which also is affirmation that we're still in the VR world.

We can very obviously see how they've grown quite a group of fans for themselves in this world.

Fun thing that I just noticed: not only do they sell happiness at the stands in this park, some also sell mufflers, which are used to drown out sounds made by certain instruments (a way for the authorities to stop fans from listening to XH). You can see it in the background of this shot.

There's a lot to this MV that does not necessarily mean anything to the main plot I'm describing here, but I will mention it a bit as well.

So O.de, Gaon and Jungsu get pulled into the mirror maze type of set, where they are welcomed by the darker sides om themselves. The more simplistic sets are basically the representations of negativity, which they need to cut out of their life. A fun fact to add to this is during the showcase they said that the gardening and barber concepts come from the fact that they need to sort and cut away the bad parts of themselves.

Now that the world they're in is questioning whether they are villains or heroes, they themselves are as well. They are literally held up a mirror to reflect on their deeds and intentions.

By breaking out of these thoughts (again literally because O.de breaks the glass), they again are met with errors and warnings.

And then is to us revealed that this place was danger after all, as the sign from the beginning changes.

You can actually see what they mean by this danger if you focus on the background of some of the shots that follow; the rides are broken off and electric sparks are flying around. Some of the carts even fall down. So maybe the group was invited here as the special guest (explained below) because it was an attempt to rid of them?

Then we see XH start to smash a bunch of things, including their own instruments and a sign that encourages people to join ♭form. This can be see as an act of rebellion against the whole system. I was actually able to find that on some of the posters it speaks of the grand opening of ♭form garden, so XH just kind of ruined that by setting the place on fire.

Random thing I have to mention: the 'hello, world' sign in the back is one of the cooler easter eggs I've found.

Also here is a screenshot where you can see the posters the best. There is one that speaks of the grand opening with Xdinary Heroes as their special guest. It also says: 'What can be next? Guess what! The light is coming in. Its blinding'. The other poster has details on the opening, the location is called DreamLand.

Then we get onto the last and most important scenes of this whole MV.

We see a phone, which I'm assuming is from one of the members. And then we get the next shot.

It is a message from ♭form, telling them that their police report has been submitted for review. Aka a big spoiler to the next MV.

And yet another warning/error message to top the whole thing off:

The TLDR for this one is that Hair cut is the point where everyone (including XH themselves) are questioning the goodness of them, so much so that it is 'overloading them'. Their popularity is used against them, as ♭form tries to rid of them by inviting them to this opening, which turns out to be danger. Though XH fights back equally hard by smashing all of DreamLand.

Gunil

Gunil was exhausted after a long day of music video filming. He wanted nothing more than to plop down onto his bed and sleep. Just as Gunil made himself comfortable underneath his blanket his phone started ringing. A groan of frustration left his mouth, but it was cut short as he saw your contact name displayed across his phone. His lips curved upward into a smile as he answered your call. 

“Hey,” you greeted. 

“Hi,” he greets you back. 

“Oh I’m sorry, were you about to go to bed? We can hang up.” you apologized as you took in his appearance.

“No,” Gunil quickly interjected. “I mean I got ready for bed, but I didn’t plan on actually sleeping yet,” he chuckled. Yeah it was a lie, but even as his exhausted body craved sleep his desire to talk to you was much stronger.

“Ok, let me know if you want to go to bed,” you tell him. Gunil nodded. 

Somehow you ended up being the one to fall asleep while on call. Gunil looks at your sleeping face. He wishes he could swipe some of the hair away from your face when it hits him. The way his heart is beating. The smile that hasn’t left his lips since you called. He loved you. A heartfelt chuckle left his lips. 

“Goodnight y/n. I love you,” he says, ending the call. 

Jungsu

The two of you were out on a beach trip. Holding your shoes in your hands, feet feeling the warm sand as you walk along the coast. The sun was getting close to setting. The blue sky begins to fade into an orange hue. 

“Ooh look, seashells,” you said excitedly, bending down. You carefully picked up the shells, dusting the grains of sand off of them. “They match,” you said. Holding out your hand you show Jungsu the two matching seashells in your hand.

“Yeah they do.” He’s not really looking at the shells though. He’s looking at you and how excited you look over the fragile shells. 

“Here, take the other one.” You gently placed one of the two shells in the palm of his hand. Jungsu briefly looks at the shell you placed in his hand then he looks back at you. You’re holding your shell closer to your eyes, trying to see the intricate details. As the orange hue of the setting sun glows over you he realizes it. He loves you. He looks back at the seashell sitting in his hand, a smile tugging on his lips. 

“I love you,” he said under his breath. 

“Huh what did you say?” you asked him. Attention now on him rather than the shell. 

“Oh uh- I said I love the shell. Thank you for finding it,” he covered up.

“You’re welcome,” you smiled brightly. He’ll tell you another time.

Gaon/Jiseok

Jiseok’s friends often teased him about being head over heels in love with you. To which he always denied insisting that you were only a very dear friend. His friends never bought it, but that didn’t matter to Jiseok. He knew how he felt about you, that’s what mattered. His friends could tease him as much as they wanted. It won’t change that you and him are only close friends.

You’re only close friends, however Jiseok feels an uncomfortable weight on his chest when he sees you being close to another guy. That’s normal though right? Friends can get possessive over each other. No one likes seeing their best friend be close to someone else. 

“Jiseok did you see the guy that was talking to me?” You came up to him.

“Yes, why?” he answered. 

“He asked me out.” Jiseok felt his heart drop to his stomach.

“Huh?” A sense of fear began to settle inside of Jiseok. 

“Yeah, it was weird. I said no,” you informed him. A wave of relief washed over Jiseok. That was close, he almost lost you. Wait. Oh. Jiseok’s friends were right. He was head over heels in love with you. 

“Of course it was weird. He wasn’t me,” Jiseok quipped. 

“Huh? What are you trying to imply?” you questioned. 

“I’m just messing with you.” He isn’t.

O.de/Seungmin

“Seungmin!” you called happily, running into his arms. He lets out a small oomf as you collide into his front. Both you and Seungmin had quite busy schedules lately, resulting in the two of you being unable to see each other in a while. 

“I missed you too,” Seungmin says, strongly wrapping his arms around you. The two of you stay embraced a little longer than necessary. 

“You and y/n act like lovers,” Seungmin’s friend’s words ring over in his head as his hand subconsciously moves up to cradle the back of your head. He never really thought about it until his friend pointed it out. Now it makes him think. About how long your embraces are. How he’s always excited to see you. How much he misses you when he can’t see you. How he would do anything to keep you happy. How much he wants to protect you. How much he wants to be the one you lean on. How much he…loves you. The realization makes him feel his heart beating in his chest. He wonders if you can feel it too. He rests his head against yours, holding you a bit closer. He should let go now. He should have let go a few moments ago. He doesn’t want to though. He wants to keep you close. 

“I love you.”

Junhan/Hyeongjun

Hyeongjun preferred staying in over going out. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t enjoy going out and hanging with his friends from time to time though. Right now he is out with his friends and it has been fun. Although his social battery is beginning to dwindle. He’s sitting quietly while the others talk, trying to think of a good reason to leave. That’s when you message him. “I know you’re out with your friends right now, but I need your help with something. Can you come?” Hyeongjun smiled, you always had perfect timing somehow. Hyeongjun excused himself and began on his journey to get to you. 

“Hey, what did you need help with?” he asked when he arrived at your place. 

“Nothing,” you tell him. 

“What, but you?” Hyeongjun became confused. 

“You had been out a couple hours. I figured your social battery was probably dying,” you explained. Hyeongjun’s heart fills with warmth. You knew him so well and were always looking out for him. “Come on, let’s go recharge you,” you laughed. You took him by the hand and led him over to your couch. Making sure he was comfortable before you grabbed your headphones and placed one of them in his ear. Then you placed the other one in your ear and pressed play on the playlist you had pulled up. Hyeongjun’s favorite song filled his ear. Hyeongjun tiredly rested his head on your shoulder. The two of you sit in silence. He feels at peace and that’s when he realizes it, he loves you.

Jooyeon

Jooyeon always said that you were his favorite person, his number one. You put up with all his silliness and even joined in on it. He could be one hundred percent himself with you and that was something that he treasured. He knew it was rare to find a person you could just be yourself around without any judgment. Even if he never really verbalized how much he cared about you. He knew that you could tell. Because yes he would mess with you and give you a hard time, but the second someone else did Jooyeon would shut it down. No one would mess with you on his watch. 

“Jooyeon you literally tease them about it all the time, so can’t I do it?” his friend remarked. 

“Because you’re not me. Only I can tease them about it,” Jooyeon states. 

“And why’s that?” his friend prompts.

“They might get hurt if someone else teases them about it and I won’t let anyone hurt them,” Jooyeon said protectively. 

“Sounds like you’re in love with them,” his friend jokes. “I am.” Jooyeon answered without thinking. He realized what he said the same time his friend did as they looked at each other with wide eyes. Jooyeon was in love with you. “I’m in love with y/n.” He said out loud to no one in particular. It was a statement of realization.

The time had barely hit 12 am, the stars were just now peeking out from behind the clouds and the two of you sat on his rooftop. a cigarette in Jooyeon’s left hand, the other hand propping himself up…just centimeters away from touching yours. You glanced over at the long haired boy and scrunched your nose, “that shit is gonna kill you—“. Jooyeon turned his head and looked at you with a smile on his face, he took one last inhale and blew the smoke in your direction. “Well now you’re gonna die too.” He teased, you coughed a little and blushed- flustered at his words. “Shut up…I was teasing!!” You said punching the other’s arm lightly, earning a laugh in return. “I know, it’s just cute seeing you flustered.” Jooyeon said flicking the cigarette off the roof, he then laid back, resting his arms behind his head admiring the sky. His statement made you blush even more, ‘Thank god it’s dark out..’ you thought to yourself leaning back mimicking the his actions. “That’s pretty gay of you, Jooyeon. Need to tell me something?” You asked in a teasing tone, this earned a side glance from Jooyeon; “well..I mean if it’s you then why not?”.

Silence filled the air and after a few seconds Jooyeon spoke up once again only to be cut off…“I’m jok—“

“I like you…Jooyeon.”

he paused for a moment, another silence filling the air. This time it felt thick with tension. “Do you really?” He asked in a whisper like tone, his voice seeming more soft than usual. “It’s okay if you don’t like me back- you know what? Forget it. Pretend I didn’t say anything.” You panicked, sitting up right now with your knees to your chest. He copied your movements and sat up too, only this time his hand held yours. “I like you too, y/n.” You looked over with a surprised expression, unable to really comprehend what he just said when you felt a pair of cold lips touch yours.
