Note
how do u curate your playlists? they're so good (listening to the glen powell one rn lol)
dearest anon, please know you've made my entire summer with this ask <3333 (here's the playlist in question)
now while i recognise you probably weren't looking for a legitimate breakdown of the process here, you've inspired me to take a deep dive, and i'm prone to getting carried away (and yes, i read high fidelity recently and rewatched the film and the series. but i'm sure that has nothing to do with it). so here goes, under the cut:
Lizzy's Guide to the Delicate Art of Making a Playlist
#1 - What's the Point?
There has to be a theme or mood or connecting thread for the playlist. That being said, as long as it makes sense to you, you've pretty much got this covered.
What's the story? Is it based on a mood, an event, a time in your life, a person, a character, a genre, an era, etc. etc. There's plenty to choose from, so there's plenty of playlists to be made. Go crazy, get weird with it.
(In this example, the overarching theme is: Glen Powell Hot (Twisters Edn.) with a sub-theme, if you will: Country Music for Beginners.)
#2 - Song Selection
Once the theme is set, I gather a few tracks that spring to mind immediately. In this instance:
• Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That - Dolly Parton
• Cowboy Take Me Away - The Chicks
• Country's Cool Again - Lainey Wilson
All of these are fairly self-explanatory if you have been caught up in the Twisters press tour at all recently. No further comment.
From here I flesh out the ~general vibelist~ with more tracks, some classics and some deep cuts. I'm cross-referencing my own musical knowledge, previous playlists, spotify mixes (god forgive me, the occasional algorithm picks), and other user's Powell playlists (topgun-heavy, but you certainly can't blame them).
#3 - Order Matters
There's got to be some sort of flow to the playlist front to back, unless your theme is audio whiplash, for example.
Now here I am a devout follower of the High Fidelity rules, which are as follows:
Track 1 - Open with a killer - sets the tone, gets people invested
(Here, Lady Gaga's You And I ~ it's a banger, and it's country enough to get away with. Can't bring out the banjo prematurely, we'll lose people)
Track 2 - Bring it up a notch - let them know we're just getting started
(Alannah Myles, Black Velvet ~ country-ing it up a notch but staying firmly in the mainstream, because again, we don't want to scare anyone)
Track 3 - Cool it down - now we're settling in
(Chris Stapleton ft. Dua Lipa - I Think I'm In Love With You ~ Dua keeps us firmly rooted in the crowd pleasers, and we can sneak in some Stapleton)
N.B. There is a rule here that I don't abide by, the "only one track per artist" - there's three dolly tracks in this lineup alone and i stand by all of them. Provided you're not adding an entire album or two, I think you can get away with it.
Anyway, this three-track run fires us into a classic (Islands In The Stream) which melts into Tyler Childers and suddenly we're knee deep in Kentucky and you didn't even know it.
The trick is to not overthink it, which is always easier said than done. Ordering only has to make sense to you from start to finish. This journey's gotta go somewhere - throw in a few peaks and troughs, and the songs are just connecting the dots along the way.
#4 - As Does Shuffle-ability
Now, having said all that, I feel like this is a safe space to admit I am a chronic shuffler, so a degree of shuffle-ability is required.
All this means is that your underlying theme is evident throughout. Any wildcards are going to make sense wherever they pop up.
With this one, the thread of country through all of these tracks is what ties the theme together (saving a horse). There are some classics (Faith Hill, Willie Nelson), soul-heavy tracks (Secret Sisters, Leon Bridges), and and few more pop-adjacent (Haim, Ashe) but they've all got that twang - so it's shuffle proof.
#5 - Points for Presentation
A good cover, title and description can offset a multitude of sins. Don't underestimate the power of presentation.
Duration comes into play here also, where anything shorter than half an hour feels like it has nowhere to go, but over three hours feels insurmountable. Unless you're going for a compilation, year in your life playlist, or some background low-fi stuff, keep it tight.
And there you have it folks, my (lengthy) guide to playlist curation. Final note, don't love it and leave it. If you come across something new, jostle things around to get it in. Similarly, if something doesn't fit anymore, toss it. The beauty of the modern mixtape is you can edit it as little or as often as you like.
If you made it this far, I'm personally sending you a little kiss on the forehead. And to the anon who inspired this article of a response, I can only apologise. MWAH

SLIDE ONE
TEXT: Abyssal Scrutiny: an urban fantasy hot mess by tumblr user sodaliteskull
(IMAGES: the background shows a washed out image of a person standing before Cthulhu. They are minuscule in comparison. A speech bubble coming out of Cthulhu's mouth reads, "gimme yo FAKKIN MONEY!!!!"to which the person is responding, "NO!")
SLIDE TWO
TEXT: The city of Port Crowden... IS UNDER ATTACK!
people are being gruesomely murdered
property is inexplicably damaged
monster sightings!?
ANGEL SIGHTINGS!?!?
There's only one thing that can save it... MUTHA FUKKIN SUPER SENTAI!!!!!
(IMAGES: in the upper left hand corner is a picture of Vancouver, standing in for the fictional city of Port Crowden. Along the bottom is an image from the 35th anniversary of the Super Sentai media franchise, showing nearly 200 precursors to the Power Rangers)
SLIDE THREE
TEXT: wait wait wait! I'm gonna need a little more context than that!
hokay so, ON THIS ALTERNATE REALITY EARTH! for the last handful of decades, this comet would swing by every twenty-ish years and hang out for roughly twelve months of so.
one of the weird things about it is that is always becomes visible to the naked eye during the week of the Cancerid meteor shower, almost as if the meteors were coming from the comet - BUT THAT'S NOT HOW COMETS WORK!!!
every time this bitch shows up, a lot of weird crime happens. weird in a "literally what is the motive for any of this" kind of way. weird in a "reliable witnesses claim the culprit was some kind of eldritch horror" kind of way. weird in a "conspiracy theorist's wet dream" kind of way
authorities have claimed it's a bunch of shit: mass hallucinations caused by some kind of chemical leak, influencer publicity stunts gone horribly wrong, viral marketing gone horrible worse, run of the mill gang activity, miscellaneous cult tomfuckery. and while suspects have been arrested on suspicion, no one has ever been proven guilty
(IMAGE: a picture of comet Hale-Bopp, standing in for the Star Dealer comet)
the Ishinomori-Haim comet, also know as "the Star Dealer"
(IMAGE: along the bottom is a faded out photo of "POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS" tape)
SLIDE FOUR
TEXT: okay, cool. so what's REALLY going on?
siblings Morgan and Al Kurosawa, along with their cousin Grant Jardine are each struck by a fallen fragment of the Star Dealer comet, which gives them superhuman abilities and equipment. not long after, they encounter Dirk Silberg, a local entrepreneur, who explains that the arrival of the Star Dealer causes - or potentially coincides with - a thinning of the veil between this world and a realm he calls the Otherworld. from there, a malevolent force known as the Spread launches its invasions to try and snatch up any fallen stars that hadn't found their way into human hosts.
forty years ago, Dirk, along with his twin Drake and their friends Tony and Barb were starstruck, and battled the Spread. sadly, Tony, Barb, and Drake lost their lives fighting
(IMAGES: Picrews of the characters mentioned. Morgan has short brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, glasses, and is associated with the colour blue. Al has short sandy brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, and is associated with the colour green. Grant has short dark brown hair and beard, dark brown eyes, olive skin, glasses, and is associated with the colour red. Dirk has short ruddy brown hair, hazel eyes, olive skin, and is associated with the colour green. Drake has short ruddy brown hair, hazel eyes, olive skin, and is associated with the colour red. Tony has short black hair and stubble, light brown eyes, olive skin, and is associated with the colour blue. Barb has long ginger hair, blue eyes, fair skin covered in freckles, and is associated with the colour yellow.)
SLIDE FIVE
TEXT: this is just a Power Rangers reskin, isn't it?
sure the fuck is! more so these guys tho -> (IMAGE: a team photo of the Gokaigers. Gokai Red is seated with his arms crossed, while Gokai Yellow is to his left, and Gokai Pink is to his right, holding the mechanical bird Navi in her arms. Gokai Silver is standing behind Gokai Red, while Gokai Blue is to the left of Gokai Yellow, and Gokai Green is to the right of Gokai Pink)
the absolute gorilla GRIP Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger has on my psyche…
Sentinels, empowered by fragments of the Star Dealer, are the only thing that can halt the Spread
they have special suits they can morph into, which protects them from the corrosive effects of the Otherworld, with weapons and special attacks to help them take on the nasties that dwell there
they are also granted superhuman abilities outside of the suits, like how these guys in the 2017 Power Rangers movie were able to jump crazy distances and crush cell phones with their bare hands (IMAGE: a screenshot from the aforementioned movie, showing Billy, Jason, Trini, Zack, and Kimberly standing in the Command Centre)
I call them "Sentinels" as a nod to both "sentai" and "senshi", since Sailor Moon is as much an inspo for this as Power Rangers is (IMAGE: a promotional image from the 90's Sailor Moon anime, showing Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars, Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, and Sailor Jupiter striking their signature poses against the background of a Tokyo night skyline)
look, I just like teams of pals who fight monsters together, okay!?!
SLIDE SIX
TEXT: design inspo because I am a visual thinker but shit at drawing!
the Mecha Will Rise/Bulletpunk figures from Devil Toys are the closest to what I have in mind for the look of Sentinels
skin-tight armour suits that manifest underneath street clothes
funky helmets that reflect the personality of the Sentinel
glove and boot armour
clothing changes colour to match the Sentinel's signature colour(s)
some kind of batshit anime weapon for fighting
definitely going more for style than practicality with these things, because who doesn't wanna look cute when fighting Cthulhu?
(IMAGES: thirteen figures from Devil Toys, all of which are wearing cyberpunk/techwear fashion in an assortment of colours, all of them wearing mecha style helmets, while some of them are wielding some kind of over-the-top weapon)
SLIDE SEVEN
TEXT: so I take it you aren't talking about butter?
nope! this ceaseless wave of nightmare fuel wants one thing and one thing only: to monch and cronch on fallen stars. they are single minded in their pursuit, closer to a fire consuming whatever is flammable in its path rather than an intelligence that is working towards a goal
At least, that was the case, until these tarot themed weirdos showed up and started bossing the Spread around! (IMAGES: arrows pointing to four figures - the Empress, a woman with long black hair and pale purple skin and dark purple eyes, associated with the colour silver. the High Priestess, with long pale green hair, darker green skin, and even darker green eyes, associates with the colour purple. the Magician, with a short ocean blue afro, sky blue skin, and pale blue eyes, wearing glasses and associated with the colour red. and the Fool, with long orange hair tied in a pony tail, khaki skin, and golden eyes, associated with the colour yellow)
the Spread are hard to categorize, as they're all chaotically shifting messes of tentacles and teeth. the only exceptions are the very rare, very powerful, and distinctly humanoid looking Abominations
(IMAGES: five pictures of eldritch horrors looming in nightmarish landscapes, representing the Spread. there's a lot of tentacles and pustules and assorted other body horror going on in each image. representing an Abomination is a humanoid figure somehow both skeletal and fleshy, with a mass of tentacles coming out of its back)
SLIDE EIGHT
TEXT: hold up, you mentioned something about angles at the start of this!?!?
thankfully, not everything in the Otherworld is out to kill you! looking like something of a cross between the angles from Bayonetta and Greco-Roman marble statues, are the Courts. in contrast to the chaotic Spread, the Courts have an orderly hierarchy. ruled by a King and Queen, every Court is defended by Rooks, advised by Bishops, while the Knights lead Pawns in their battle against the Spread. they are quick to ally themselves with the Sentinels
the assorted Courts are all named after metals (the Court of Gold, the Court of Iron, etc), and the rarer the metal, the more influential the Court
the exception to this rigid societal structure is the Court of Gems, which is composed entirely of Knights, and are even more single minded in their desire to wipe the Spread out than the rest of the Courts are
(IMAGES: several different enemy angels from the Bayonetta games, all of them looking like mythological monsters made of white marble and wearing crimson and gold armour, with statuesque faces in places where they should not be. behind them are several white marble statues with veins of gold running through them, almost giving them the effect of the Japanese style of Kintsugi, wherein one uses gold to mend cracks in pottery)
SLIDE NINE
TEXT: overview of the Otherworld
the Otherworld is a reflection of our world - the landscape and structures of here have mirror copies there. organic things, such as plants and animal life, do not have Otherworld counterparts, however. beyond the Courts and the Spread, the Otherworld is lifeless.
it's divided into two distinct locations - the Heights and the Depths. the Depths are especially deadly, as it's blanketed by a corrosive cloud roughly 100m tall. without protection, organic life does not last long in the Depths. the Heights, in contrast, are corrosion free.
(IMAGE: a rough outline of five buildings on a flat plateau, to the left of which slopes down off screen)
the Heights
the Courts make their homes in the upper floors of skyscrapers
(IMAGE: the three tallest buildings are poking up into the Heights, while everything else in the city resides in the Depths)
separating layer looks like waves from below, and clouds from above
the Depths
the Spread live in the dips and valleys of the landscape, surging up onto higher ground whenever they sense a fallen star nearby. when inactive, they just look like an inky black, viscous ocean
SLIDE TEN
(IMAGE: the background is the person standing before Cthulhu image from the first slide, only washed out to the point where it's barely visible)
TEXT: so sum this shit up for me…
a comet swings by every twenty years and (potentially!?!?) shits debris all over the place
if a comet dropping hits a person, they become a Sentinel
if it lands on the ground, the fragment shifts the area around it into the Otherworld
drawn by the power of the fallen star, the Spread destroy everything in their path to get to it, people and buildings alike
in order to protect those around them, Sentinels need to hunt down these comet fragments and find a way to safely dispose of them
but how are Morgan, Al, and Grant going to deal with all this?
does Dirk have ulterior motives for helping them?
if Sentinels happen every time, why no mention of the team from twenty years ago?
what is going on with that tarot team?
if they've been fighting the Spread this long, why haven't the Courts succeeded yet?
all these questions (and more!) will be answered… once I actually fucking write this thing!

WHO AM I?
Hello, I'm luvrlou, but by all means, call me Lou! I'm a girl from Scotland who adores writing (I wrote a 5,000 word essay about great white sharks when I was 10 for no reason).
I have decided to leave moonlight-394 in the past, I lived on Tumblr under that user for nearly 2 and a half years, so I thought I have changed quite a bit as has my writing, so I'm rebranding!
Don't worry yourselves my old writing is not getting deleted, as much as it makes me cringe, it's staying.
I guess I'll tell you all some stuff about me since I haven't been that personal on here before.
I adore Elvis Presley
I have watched every single shark documentary on Disney+ over 5 times
I watched Hamilton every night for 2 months during Lockdown
I have binged Friends 14 times
I have broken my left ankle 8 times over the past 7 years
Jimmy Dean is my favourite actor
I can recite the whole Chinese takeaway scene in The Lost Boys
I can write down the lyrics to All Too Well (10 Minute Version)(Taylor's Version)(From The Vault) from memory

Dr. Zohar Bronfman, Co-founder & CEO of Pecan AI – Interview Series
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/dr-zohar-bronfman-co-founder-ceo-of-pecan-ai-interview-series/
Dr. Zohar Bronfman, Co-founder & CEO of Pecan AI – Interview Series
Dr. Zohar Bronfman is thge Co-founder & CEO of Pecan AI. With deep expertise in computational psychology and data science, Zohar applied his inherent entrepreneurial spirit to Co-Found Pecan, right out of graduate school. Zohar holds two PhDs from Tel Aviv University – one in computational cognitive neuroscience and another in the history and philosophy of science and technology. He also holds a BA in economics from the Open University of Israel.
Founded in 2018, Pecan AI is a predictive analytics platform that leverages its pioneering Predictive GenAI to remove barriers to AI adoption, making predictive modeling accessible to all data and business teams. Guided by generative AI, companies can obtain precise predictions across various business domains without the need for specialized personnel. Predictive GenAI enables rapid model definition and training, while automated processes accelerate AI implementation. With Pecan’s fusion of predictive and generative AI, realizing the business impact of AI is now far faster and easier.
What was the journey like in founding Pecan AI and what are some of the key milestones achieved along the way?
Starting Pecan AI was quite the rollercoaster. It all kicked off when my co-founder and I joined an international data science competition. We created a data-preparation automation that turned into Pecan’s prototype, but we missed the deadline and lost. Instead of moving on, we decided to turn our prototype into something impactful. Just two months after finishing our doctorates in 2018, we rented a small room at Tel Aviv University and started hustling. With limited business experience, we pitched our idea to venture capitalists. Thankfully, Haim Sadger and Aya Peterburg from S Capital saw potential and invested $4 million, giving us the boost we needed.
One major milestone was raising $66 million in a Series C round led by Insight Partners, with backing from GV (formerly Google Ventures) and others. This funding allowed us to expand globally and speed up our development efforts.
How does your background in computational cognitive neuroscience influence your approach to developing AI solutions?
My background in computational cognitive neuroscience, along with my PhD in history and philosophy of science, plays a big role in how I develop AI solutions. These fields help me understand both the technical and philosophical aspects of technology. This dual perspective is incredibly valuable in today’s rapidly changing tech landscape. It allows me to create AI products that are not just technically advanced but also ethically sound and user-friendly.
Can you explain the concept of Predictive GenAI and how it integrates generative AI with predictive machine learning?
Sure thing. Predictive GenAI is all about merging Generative AI with Predictive Machine Learning. Generative AI lets users interact with data through natural language, making it easy to ask questions and guide the AI. However, its predictive abilities are limited. That’s where Predictive Machine Learning comes in, as it processes data to make accurate future predictions. By combining these two technologies, Predictive GenAI allows even those with little data science experience to build predictive models and use them seamlessly, like chatting with ChatGPT.
How does Predictive GenAI simplify the process of creating and deploying predictive models for businesses?
Predictive GenAI simplifies things with features like Predictive Chat and Predictive Notebook. Predictive Chat acts like an AI sidekick, guiding users through the modeling process using natural language. It formulates predictive questions based on the user’s business concerns and generates a Predictive Notebook with ready-made SQL queries and sample data. This means users don’t need to start from scratch or have deep technical knowledge to get accurate predictions.
Could you elaborate on the case study involving the CAA Club Group and how Pecan AI optimized their roadside assistance services?
Absolutely. The CAA Club Group used to spend a week manually forecasting roadside assistance, which was time-consuming and limited. After implementing Pecan AI, their data science team developed over 30 models to generate short-term demand forecasts twice a week. These forecasts predict call volumes and service types hourly, ensuring efficient staffing and quick responses, especially during harsh winter conditions. Pecan’s platform also allows continuous improvement of these models, enhancing service efficiency.
How did Credit Pros benefit from using Pecan AI for client churn prediction and what specific challenges did it solve for them?
The Credit Pros faced significant challenges with client churn prediction, which was a complex and time-consuming process. Implementing Pecan AI reduced the model development time from three months to just weeks, enabling proactive retention strategies. This streamlined process allowed TCP to accurately predict client churn and devise effective strategies to retain clients, ultimately increasing their revenue.
How do the Predictive Chat and Predictive Notebook tools enhance user experience and make predictive analytics accessible to non-technical users?
Predictive Chat uses GenAI to create custom notebooks based on the user’s business questions and data. Users can interact with the chat in natural language, answering questions and following instructions, which simplifies the model creation process. The Predictive Notebook includes all the necessary code, allowing users to view queries, create custom tables, and understand the training dataset’s logic. This approach makes predictive analytics accessible to non-technical users by streamlining data preparation and model creation.
In what ways do you see Predictive GenAI transforming various industries and business functions?
Predictive GenAI empowers businesses to make data-driven decisions with unparalleled accuracy and efficiency. In manufacturing and logistics, it optimizes operations by forecasting demand and streamlining supply chains. In customer-centric industries, it enhances satisfaction and loyalty through targeted marketing and tailored recommendations. Predictive GenAI also fuels innovation by predicting market trends, guiding product development, and speeding up time-to-market. Its applications extend to healthcare for disease prediction and personalized treatment plans, and to sustainability efforts by optimizing resource usage and reducing environmental impact.
How does Pecan AI ensure the accuracy and reliability of its predictive models?
We ensure accuracy and reliability through rigorous testing and ongoing validation. Pecan AI uses separate training and test datasets to evaluate model performance, similar to grading a school test. Key metrics like accuracy, precision, and recall are used to validate models during development and in production. We also promote transparency through explainable predictions, helping users understand the factors influencing each prediction and fostering confidence in AI-driven insights.
How do you envision the role of Predictive GenAI evolving in the next few years?
Looking ahead, the future of AI is not just about predicting events but also prescribing actions based on those predictions. Predictive GenAI aims to automate decision-making processes and optimize business operations. However, it’s crucial to understand the associated risks and ensure the responsible use of AI. As the technology evolves, it will play a critical role in enhancing operational efficiency, fostering innovation, and driving strategic decision-making across various industries.
Thank you for the great interview, readers who wish to learn more should visit Pecan AI.

Feldman was born in Reseda, California, US and was raised Jewish. Feldman started acting from a young age. He divorced his parents after he alleged that his parents had exploited him for his earning potential and his mother had abused him. Feldman grew up in the toxic side to Hollywood, the creepy men that took advantage of himself and his friend Corey Haim as well as ending up a drug user and a drinker from an early age.
Feldman is well-known for his friendship with his co-star Corey Haim; the two appeared in numerous films together. They first met at the age of 14 during The Lost Boys. The two appeared in a reality television program called The Two Corey’s (2007-2008), it wasn’t a bad program and you can watch it on YouTube. In the program, Feldman has improved his life by getting off drugs and living a healthier lifestyle. Haim is extremely likeable to watch on screen, however, he was going through a lot of shit including addictions as well as suffering from the demons from his past. There’s a lot of friction between the two friends and Haim sadly passed away at the age of 38 in 2010.

'Taylor Swift's Eras Tour made the dreams of many Fleabag fans come true over the weekend.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott were among the plethora of stars in attendance at the singer's third show at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, June 23, and fans were delighted to see the actors reunite nearly five years after Fleabag's conclusion.
They were photographed in the VIP tent at the venue – alongside Sophie Turner, Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Gracie Abrams and Travis Kelce, who later joined Swift, 34, on stage – and later spotted stepping out before they hastily returned to their spot.
In a video that quickly made the rounds on social media, Scott, 47, and Waller-Bridge, 38, were walking away from the VIP tent when the opening notes of "Style" off 1989 (Taylor's Version) began to play. They were waving at excited fans as they walked, before Scott noticed what song had started, grabbed his former costar's hand, and started running back toward the tent.
The former costars' outing comes days after they met Swift for dinner in London.
On June 11, the singer was joined by Scott, Waller-Bridge, Kate Moss, Stella McCartney, Cara Delevingne, Lena Dunham, and Este and Danielle Haim at Notting Hill's Casa Cruz ahead of the start of a string of U.K. dates on her record-breaking tour.
In Fleabag, Waller-Bridge played the titular character, who is referred to solely as Fleabag, while Scott played the priest — dubbed by fans as the "Hot Priest" — who Fleabag was crushing on, but was ultimately rejected by as he remained faithful to the clergy.
After seeing Scott and Waller-Bridge enjoying Swift's concert together, fans praised the videos and photos as proof of an alternate ending to the series, where Fleabag and the Priest end up together.
"The ending Fleabag deserved ♥️," one user wrote on a fan page's Instagram post.
"I’m telling everyone this is Fleabag’s ending," another fan wrote, while another added, "THE REAL ENDING, I CAN REST IN PEACE NOW."
After only two seasons, the comedy series concluded — with a particularly devastating confession of love and subsequent denial between Fleabag and the Priest — and though fans have long wished for more, Waller-Bridge, who created the show, was insistent that 2019 marked its ending.
"She's been through enough. We got to let her go," she said of the character on Late Night with Seth Meyers following the finale.
Though it may be long over, the roles continue to hang over the actors' heads — but that's not a bad thing. Scott told PEOPLE at the premiere of All of Us Strangers in December that he thinks it's "great" that he's still recognized for the role.
"It hasn't prevented me from spreading my wings and it was such a wonderful character," he said. "And there's much worse things to be called in life."'

The Filter Bubble
The notion of the Filter Bubble, in simplistic terms, almost refers to the self-fulfilling prophecy. In essence, linking back to the previous discussion of algorithms in other posts, the Filter Bubble links back to the idea that, who an individual chooses to follow and interact with on Social Media platforms, causes the algorithm to present the user with similar content, which aligns with one's personal interests. Personally, I can understand how the ideology of the Filter Bubble can be viewed as both negative and positive, on the positive side, if you find yourself interested in something, it is more than likely that you will want to see more of that content or similar content to spark your interest further. However, in regard to the negative, linking back to Digital Activism, the Filter Bubble in a sense could be viewed as negative, similar to the 'echo chamber effect', theoretically, you would be consistently shown the same opinion, over and over, therefore, you would not be able to view an oppositional opinion. As a result, when someone engages with the same opinions over and over, their opinion could possibly and arguably, become more radicalised over time, as you are simply not shown an opposition's opinion, making the user believe that, that opinion is irrelevant to them - "The logic of the algorithms to prioritize content liked by similar users or content that resembles content specific users like can have consequences for the diversity of the overall set of news that is presented to users, that is the extent to which users receive contents from different perspectives, sources, and categories" (Moeller and Helberger, 2018).
"The 'filter bubble' is a term which refers to people getting encapsulated in streams of data such as news or social network updates that are personalized to their interests" (Nagulendra, 2014).
The Filter Bubble can become a serious problem if it begins to affect our worldview, as we may only be shown content from a specific point-of-view, rather than a more nuanced retelling of information. And, potentially, due to the fact that the Internet and Social Media allow anyone to post information and 'news' in the literal sense, this can result in misinformation being presented to the public. Therefore, Social Media users may believe something is fact, when in reality, it did not even happen, or what was said is incorrect.
"News consumption has changed dramatically over the past years, with an ever-increasing share of news consumed online" (Haim, 2018), due to this, it is important that the news we can access is factual, and not written by just anyone.
There is not necessarily a solution towards the Filter Bubble, as arguably, we are independent users within Social Media platforms, it really is up to the User to choose and select the content they choose to consume. It is up to us to ensure that the content we consume is reliable, and can explore a multitude of opinions, which is definitely difficult and time-consuming, but will allow us to have a far more realistic understanding of the world around us.
