There is a greatness in the names of deities that, when uttered from my lips, fills me with a momentary sense of awe. A quiet and unspoken power that lies within them.
·° ★ *·
Hestia. A humble energy that is both the First and Last of all the deathless Olympians. A welcome comfort in times of trial that brings with her the love of a sheltering home. A soothing warmth that can be found without the presence of a kindled fire, for her arms are open to all and to all she provides an internal flame.
Zeus. An unmatched power that shakes the skies and brings the most indomitable beasts to their knees. A hardy will that bends the sturdy hands of the fates and dishes out blessings and curses in equal measure. A mighty presence that cannot be overshadowed nor overcome by any other, though it is a brief encounter when the name is merely spoken.
Hera. An elegant strength that is carried with the grace of a lioness, royal in nature with a silent yet undeniable authority. A razor-sharp gaze that can cut through the hardiest of stone and pierce the heart of any person who dares to question her rule. A confident presence that knows when to show compassion and when to assert one's power, certain of her worth and limits.
Poseidon. An earthshaking presence that commands the respect of those brave enough to traverse the crashing waves. A nurturing caretaker who oversees the health and wellness of every underwater denizen. A flowing energy that rolls in and out, rising and falling, ever-changing as the tides of life itself.
Demeter. An ever-caring mother of the very land we tread upon, the soil that squeezes between our toes. An unyielding mountain of power that provides for every manner of creature that roams the earth. An ever-changing force with the variability of the very seasons themselves that plants the seed of transformation within every person she encounters, simply by her nature.
Haides. The gentle yet sturdy ruler - the king who rules us all, in the end. The certainty of an ending paired with the uncertainty of the details. The warmth of burying your feet beneath the earth and watching plants grow over them. The curiosity of change in all its forms, and the subtle comfort that comes with its acceptance.

Haides's Blessing Deity Oil
"HAIDES (Hades) was the king of the underworld and god of the dead. He presided over funeral rites and defended the right of the dead to due burial. Haides was also the god of the hidden wealth of the earth, from the fertile soil with nourished the seed-grain to the mined wealth of gold, silver and other metals." - Theoi
I work with King Haides to let go of negative attachments, ancestor work, and financial matters. He's newer to my practice, I honour Queen Persephone with a candle beside him. He loves having his wife near him, especially since spring is on its way.
He's firm in his teachings. Honest but can be gentle. Will make you face your inner self and problems head-on.
I made an oil for him to call upon him. I use it to carry him with me, to wear for certain purposes and as a candle-dressing. It helps me with spirit communication, drawing prosperity and protects my heart space when placed on my chest.
You will need
A clean and cleansed jar
Peppermint - Prosperity, connections to the underworld
Cypress - Connections to death, protection, grief
Allspice - Prosperity, inner healing
Clove - Psychic Shielding, prosperity, personal growth
You can either do the folk method or the hot method. You can find my post on infused oils here to learn how to make infused spell oils. I suggest if you are an animist or someone who wants more power from your oils. Speak to the herbs kindly, treat them less like an ingredient and ask them respectfully for their aid and the purpose they'll have in your oil. Use intention. The same goes for the Olive oil.
You can sub any of these, however, Cypress and Mint are historical for him. Along with Olive oil. Try to keep within the theme of the underworld, death, spiritual connection, prosperity, introspection and protection.
Blessings!

Ignore the mask filter, I don't like showing my full face, but this is the current fit, I'm out in public, and I've never worn a headcover like this in public.
I'm super nervous, but I saw one of my buddies, and he immediately cracked a joke to make me feel better. (I'm a Star Wars fan, and he called me darth sidious lol)
But yea, I'm officially veiling in a way closer to what I want outside of work :)

I picked up a small table today that I'm going to use as an altar for Lord Haides. It's really nice, has a bit of wear from the previous owners (up-cycled from Facebook marketplace), but I'm confident that it's perfect. There's not much energy to it, so it will be easy to cleanse and consecrate. I'm really excited to finally devote a space only* to Lord Haides.
*: I've had to share spaces in the past, and I don't really like doing that :<

Note
any tips for being in the broom closet/having to hide your altars
strict parents suckkkk
Khaire, Nonny!
My apologies for the extreme lateness of this ask. 2024 was a horrendous year for me, and I couldn't keep up with asks. ^^;;;
I would recommend taking a look at some subtle ways to worship deities which I have here in this post! It's pretty basic, and you may find some things that are helpful to you. Worship doesn't always have to be a fantastical show of faith or an in-depth ritual; you can show your devotion through "little" actions, such as wearing jewelry you associate with a deity or listening to music that reminds you of them. There's honestly a lot you can do without needing an altar!
If you DO want a physical altar, however, something I've heard of is keeping small altars spaces under the bed and/or in a shoebox - and yes, keeping it in the closet as well. It's discreet and allows for your worship spaces to be safely concealed with your parents being none-the-wiser. You can also keep a journal dedicated to your deity where you write poems, prayers, or draw for them; you could even tape or glue images of their statues, temples, and other things into the journal as an added show of offering. If you're worried your parents will read said journal, someone once suggested writing it like a diary but addressed to the deity (ex: "Dear Aphrodite" instead of "Dear Diary") and claiming it was made as a "fan" of Greek mythology or Greek mythology-based media (you could use this excuse for a shoebox altar as well). It's not the most amazing excuse ever, and it may still incur backlash, but I've been told it's been effective all the same. You could also keep an altar space in nature, or have nature BE your altar. For many people, nature is a great way to connect with deities, especially those with domains in it. Plus, nature is good for our well-being, so that's an added bonus! In the case of having an outdoor altar, however just make sure to never leave this outside that could directly harm the environment or wildlife!
Outside of this, I would recommend giving a digital altar a try. These are altars you maintain online, be it dedicating a Tumblr blog to that deity or creating a Pinterest board for them. I've also heard of artists who have a dedicated digital drawing space for their deity, drawing something new on the page every time they wish to give an offering! You can even hold spaces for your deities in video games, such as in Minecraft or Stardew Valley. I've seen people create altars there for their deities in games before, and they turn out to be pretty cool (one person even had an altar to Haides in The Nether)!
It may feel hopeless at times when you have to hide aspects of yourself, but know that there are solutions and ways to practice your faith in secret effectively. I'm sorry you've found yourself in these circumstances. 🫂 I hope these options are helpful to you and others! If anyone has other suggestions, please feel free to share in the comments and reblogs. I hope your 2024 treated you well, Nonny, and I wish you the best in 2025. Take care! 🧡

About King Hades (Haides)
Haides is the god of the dead and King of the Underworld. Even if He rules over the dead he is not death itself, that would be Thanatos as he is the god of non-violent death or gentle death. King Haides also presides over funeral rites and defends the right of the dead to due burial. Because of that and He’s connotations the the earth, he is also considered as the god of the hidden wealth of the earth, from the fertile soil with nourished the seed-grain, to the mined wealth of gold, silver and other metals.
King Haides is the son of Kronos, god of time and the King of the Titanes and Rhea, the Titaness mother of the gods and goddess of female fertility, motherhood and generation*. In the myths, Haides desired a bride and when He asked one to King Zeus, He offered Persephone to Him.
Symbols and Correspondences:
- Main symbol: Royal sceptre, cornucopia, keys, Kerberos
- Sacred plants/trees: Asphodel, mint, white poplar, cypress
- Colours: Black, maroon colours, white, earth colours (mostly greens and browns)
- Animals: Dogs, Screech-owl
- Crystals: Black tourmaline, black onyx, black obsidian, jade
Devotional acts:
Offerings ideas: flowers or herbs associated with him, skulls, pomegranate, art of Himself and things He’s associated with, candles, feathers, crystals, incenses (myrrh, franckincens, mint), milk, honey, red wine, black coffee.
Devotional acts: visit graveyards, honour the dead, meditate with Him, read His myths, write Him letters or notes, sing, dance, take walks on nature, appreciate the changes that the seasons bring us, wear jewellery on His honor, honouring Persephone.
Recommended readings for a better understanding:
- Hesiod, Theogony. It describes the entire cosmology and creation of the gods, including the birth of Haides.
- Homeric hymn to Demeter. It describes the rape of Persephone. It’s probably one of His most known episodes. It also describes the division of the cosmos between Haides, Zeus and Poseidon.
- Plato, Gorgias. Specifically 523a as it also describes the appointment of the judges of the dead and the division of the cosmos.
- Plato, Republic. Specifically 10.614–10.621 as it explains the myth of Er. This myth describes the path of the dead in the afterlife.

‼️‼️
Bitches be like "Oh Hades always has to deal with his stupid youngest brother Zeus who cannot keep it in his pants."
First of all, Ancient Greeks didn't wear pants.
Secondly, Hades and Zeus are actually decent with each other. Hades isn't ashamed of asking him for help whenever he considers that there's the case, whereas Zeus trusts his eldest brother enough to give one of his daughters as his wife. There's also this whole discourse claiming that Zeus got the best and Hades got the worst, but if you actually give a second thought to it the Underworld actually has some of the greatest peaks: besides the fact that you're extremely rich all the mortals eventually become your subjects. Even poets stated that in numerous works:
Ovid, Fasti 4. 443 (trans.Boyle) (Roman poetry C1st B.C. to C1st A.D.) :
"[Zeus speaks :] ‘My rank is no greater [than Haides]. I hold court in the sky; another rules the sea [Poseidon], and one the void [Haides].’"
Or:
Seneca, Hercules Furens 53 (trans. Miller) (Roman tragedy C1st A.D.) :
"Dis [Haides] himself, who drew a lot equal to Jove's [Zeus's]."
But if you're so desperate to give Hades a brotherly rivalry then I'm here to tell you that there's no need to erase all of Zeus' qualities (leadership skills, wisdom, long-term planning, determination, cunning etc.) and over exaggerate all of his bad actions in order to portray him as an incompetent asshole Hades always has to deal with. You could simply give Hades and Poseidon this type of dynamic instead.
Poseidon is way more impulsive, temperamental and testy than Zeus. He doesn't hesitate to show his wrath, let aside make others suffer because of it. On top of that, he's the god of the sea and earthquakes, and he's also almost as powerful as Zeus. His attributes and realm could easily represent a threat to the Underworld if he lets his anger go too far.
Take this passage from the Iliad as a relevant example:
Homer, Iliad 20. 67 ff :
"Poseidon from deep under them shuddered all the illimitable earth, the sheer heads of the mountains. And all the feet of Ida with her many waters were shaken and all her crests, and the city of Troy, the ships of the Akhaians (Achaeans). Aïdoneus [Haides], lord of the dead below, was in terror and sprang from his throne and screamed aloud, for fear that above him he who circles the land, Poseidon, might break the earth open and the houses of the dead lie open to men and immortals, ghastly and mouldering, so the very gods shudder before them; such was the crash that sounded as the gods came driving together in wrath."
Dude was freaking out in this scene. During the entire Greek Mythology he's presented as stoic and rarely frightened, but when his brother was causing a strong earthquake he was shitting himself and sucking his thumb like a baby (metaphorically). For the first and last time we see a god being vulnerable and scared by other gods in a similar way a mortal who is about to lose all of his property and belongings would be. Poseidon is pretty much capable of drowning the entire Underworld or exposing it to the Aboveworld if he wants to, so who's actually the more problematic brother? The one who can maintain his calm and control and understands better how distructive power can be, or the one whose anger was on the edge of breaking the border between the realms of the living and the dead?
What if people would stop completely changing the original personalities of the Greek Gods and create more headcanons and fanfictions based on what's actually stated (or at least what is suggested/more plausible) in the myths?
