#plantspiritchallenge Day 6: Make Medicine Im already planning on repeating this challenge every other month for myself because the knowledge it has given me in such a short time has been invaluable. I think I’m going to do Mugwort next, since except for burning some occasionally, I’ve never worked with it either. And I’m especially interested in making a Damiana-Mugwort tincture. I think it would benefit me and my inherent insomnia. I also decided to use Bragg ACV instead of hard alcohol. I just know me, and I’ll use the tinctures I’ve gotten in the past that are ACV based before the ones that hard alcohol based. And, I’m loving this process so much, next time around I’m going to attempt making the vinegar too!!! Well, I’m going to tuck away my little bottle of love, filled with healing intentions and plant medicine magick. #plantspiritchallenge Day 12: Charge a Candle A very old dear friend of mine who is going through some heavy times right now is paying me a visit tomorrow. So, I’m taking this opportunity to charge my candle as a gift to her. I started with a large tea light and cleansed it in the steam of my Damiana, while setting an intention for strength, healing, and self love. Then, using my left oiled hand, I anointed the tea light with grapefruit essential oil for its healing and protective properties. I then melted the wax of a smaller tea light and poured it on top of the larger one and sprinkled dried Damiana and watermelon tourmaline chips around it. I then set it next to a chunk of black tourmaline, selenite, and a larger piece of watermelon tourmaline, all known for more healing, protective, and loving properties to charge amongst these beautiful energies and set a deeper intention just for her. It should be cured by the time she arrives tomorrow. And I’m so happy right now. #plantspiritchallenge Day 10: Make Sacred Smoke I caught an annoying lil bug on Friday that laid me out the past couple of days. But now that I can keep food down and my head up, it’s time to play catch up with this awesome challenge. #plantspiritchallenge Day 2: Meditate While I don’t have a live Damiana plant {I’m going to try to get one} I do have about 2oz of dried. It’s very fluffy. Supposedly it’s supposed to smell kind of like chamomile. I think it smells like catnip with a hint of anise. I spent some time with it earlier today, running my fingers through it and asking it a few questions. And what I discovered is that it made me feel really dreamy. Comfortable and slightly sultry. Was not expecting that. I’m going to spend more time with her later this evening to see if she has a different effect on me at night. #plantspiritchallenge Day 14: Make a Shrine This was so much fun. I found a small cardboard box and went to work. I found a vintage illustration of a diagram showing the growth of a Damiana plant and placed it on a copy of a art nouveau era postcard. Then lots of flowers, butterflies, and sparkles. I placed a chunk of peacock ore on my Damiana shrine for its happiness and positivity properties. For me those both resonate with what it has been like working with this incredibly magical plant. I’m going to keep my little shrine on my work desk for the duration of the challenge 🌱💖🌱💖🌱💖🌱 . . . (I also just learned that Damiana, in any form, has been illegal in Louisiana since 2005!?!?!?!?! 😐) . . . #plantspiritchallenge Day 11: Inhale Steam Poor lighting so you really can’t see her faint wisps, but they’re there, and they’re filling my room. With every new prompt she becomes more and more familiar to me. And nothing close to tedium. If anything, every time I use Damiana I can’t wait until I get to again. Her steam is so comforting to me now. It’s the form I know her best. And even though the 2oz I started with is almost completely depleted, I’m looking forward to sourcing her a tad cheaper in bulk and always having her on hand. The comfort she brings me is restful, but also very exhilarating!!! She quiets the constant static and frees me to roam the more pleasurable parts of my mind while letting the everyday minutiae fall away. #plantspiritchallenge Day 5: Research Medicine The only herbal formulas book I have on hand at the moment is ‘The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Healing Remedies’ by C. Norman Shealy MD, PhD (2002) and there’s not more than a half page of general information. So, Pinterest it is 😂 I’ve never made a tincture before, but tomorrow’s prompt has me eager to try. #plantspiritchallenge Day 4: Dream Since all I have is dried Damiana at the moment, I’ve decided to go literal and made a cup of tea. It tastes vaguely of Japanese Barely Tea, if it were green. And the aroma is, I’m not joking, a meadow in the morning. I’ve never smelled a meadow in the morning, but it’s easy to imagine that is what is wafting from my teacup. Woodsy, floral, with hints of something very lush and green nearby. It’s only been about 30 minutes since I finished, and I’m already feeling sleepy.
