deleted scene: dearest, darling, mine

Unlike the nymphs and centaurs, the immortals didn’t need to fear the idea of death, so when Clemensia did deign to mingle among them, she charmed them all as easily as blinking.
But the nature of the deathless ones could be just as fickle as mortals, if not more.
`
There were those who were of war, pestilence, fear or violence who were unfazed by what she represented given the death that could follow their own actions.
Some found it prudent to keep themselves in good standing with someone of her position. Because the gold and gems that they desired to decorate their altars, temples came from her after all – they knew very well that there was more to the underworld than the dead.
`
That blond war god, he disliked greatly. A god of strategic warfare? More like a god of arrogance and ambition. A questionable being, but Clemensia had liked the god’s presence. Reaper had little idea how those two had ever become friends.
Sejanus, on the other hand, Reaper liked far more. The dark-haired god was far less questionable – in terms of morals and ethics.
`
The mortals were an entirely different matter.
To his eternal chagrin and Clemensia’s amusement, the silly mortals had swapped their roles in their writings. To them, he is the god of the dead while they name her a goddess of the spring, one who became a goddess of the underworld.
Who would have thought that a silly moment eons ago between them would come back to bite him like this?

ooh okay- maybe they were trying to surprise each other? clemmie was collecting flowers for reaper, reaper had a whole dinner planned, except neither of them knew where the other was or their plans. so clemmie is waiting for reaper at his favorite spot in the overworld while reaper is waiting for clemensia to return to their home with a nice meal prepared, and both of them are wondering where the heck the other is.
(it’s the vibe of international friends deciding to surprise each other by booking a flight to the other’s country, inadvertently missing each other bc they booked their trips in the same time frame and didn’t tell the other they were going.)
eventually, reaper is the first to go “what’s going on?” and seeks out clemmie. they have a bit of a laugh over it, and clemmie falls into teasing him-
reaper: let’s get going?
clemmie: but it’s so nice out today 🥺
reaper: the food is getting cold…
clemmie: don’t you want to enjoy the sunshine for a while longer? 🥺
-she does (eventually) opens up the ground to give them a path to the underworld. by that point, reaper decides to tease her back and just hauls her over his shoulder. clemmie is laughing as he carries her back home, but to be fair to the bystanders, it did sound a lot like screaming to the uninformed lol
a silly little ashcote idea came to mind - this is inspired by the myth where Theseus and his friend, Pirithious, travel to the underworld because they decided they wanted to marry daughters of Zeus, and Pirithious decided that he wanted to marry Persephone.
So imagine 2 foolish adventurers who've made that treacherous journey to the underworld, hoping to rescue the abducted goddess of spring from the cruel god that keeps her hostage. And lo-and-behold, they've found the goddess!
Well, it's actually Clemensia.
She's a bit annoyed at these two visitors showing up. And when they clarify they're looking for the goddess and what exactly they're here for, she explains that they've mistaken her for someone else. But she promises to direct said-diety to them. How nice, right?
Except it's not a goddess that returns with her, it's Reaper, who's irritable that he has to deal with this.
If you ask Reaper, Clemmie could have easily dealt with these intruders, given that the underworld is her domain. Instead, he tells them that he's uninterested in marrying either of them.
Clemmie watches in the background, giggling at Reaper's annoyance.
The two adventures think they're lying - and just maybe they get a bit too impolite with their words when Reaper tells them to leave.
And well, being impolite to the gods isn't very clever - maybe there's some smiting, or the 2 are tossed out of the underworld.
Bonus things:
Role-wise: Clemensia is the ruler of the underworld and essentially has the same titles as Hades would, while Reaper is Persephone's equivalent in terms of titles
Mortals tend to assume their roles are reversed - (1) bias, (2) a silly moment between the 2 from a millennia back that accidentally gave people the impression that Clemensia got abducted by Reaper into the Underworld.

AAAHHH!! i love how the dovecote lore persists even in this au-
clemmie still has her charm, the description of “more to the underworld than death” (it’s always better to have a dovecote on your side than against), reaper having beef with coriolanus being arrogant in any iteration of him (it’s a universal constant haha)
it’s giving the vibe of “do you think we’re friends/lovers in every world?” “not all of them, but enough.”
and of course, the mortals’ misunderstanding of who is who xD reaper will never be living that one down (literally)
this is lovely!! <33

hahah this is so cute!! i wonder what actually happened to make people think clemensia got abducted…
