Ask the Artist🎨 game!

Ohhh this gonna be a long one :D I appreciate the interest ^^
[2] How long have you been drawing
I've been a hobbyist artist since childhood, and started drawing in digital from around middle-to-high school, when I was about 13-15. I've pursued a graphic design as my career and got into drawing professionally only until after graduation and working in the design field for a few years, that's when I started leaning towards pursuing digital art more and honing my art skills.
[4] Do you have a DeviantArt, personal site or blog?
Tumblr is my main blog atm, and I'm really happy for it, as social media nowadays tend to fester hostile environment for artists (definitely not pointing towards the one particular platform I had a great hopes for). I also kinda abandoned my Instagram, which worked quite good as the platform at the start for until algorithms swallowed my visibility down to the ground due to my unwillingness to submit making reels and stories.
The carrd website is my personal commissions info hub with pricelist and ToS, where you can find all my social media links and current comm status.
The original asks post is very old, so it's mentioning DeviantArt that was a friendly place for creatives at that time. And I've abandoned DeviantArt and Artstation due to their AI policies (and for DA it's even earlier). Screw them both. Maybe I'll arrange Cara as a portfolio website when I'll have more time and energy for yet another social media platform xd
Being an artist in 2024 sucks 🙄
[5] What's your favourite thing to draw?
Was answered here!👀
[6] What's your least favourite thing to draw?
Probably a metal chainmail patterns xD really a time consuming work that has too many nuances. And probably metalwork / full-plate armor in general.
[7] How often do you use references?
Almost always. For hands, joint position, body position, it's often crucial for the things to look more organic, even if you stylize it enough.
You can of course draw without refs, and oh do I really love drawing hands outright from the head, but as an artist you would feel a way more confident when you have a visual cue before your eyes. And it's a widely common practice. Using reference is not cheating by any means and many professionals and senior artists also use them, and unfortunately more people and artists need to understand that.
Also to shoot your own refs is a good old staple. Like, taking your own ref for hands is always a great time saver if you don't happen to find a good one that suits your needs.
