Hello! :) Congratulations on getting married! :) Have you read "The watchmaker of Filigree Street"? I just finished the book and it was wonderful and heartwarming. It's set in the 1880s in London and Japan. I would categorise it as steampunk / historical / with a touch of magic. There is a mechanical octopus pet! I actually hadn’t heard of this book before but it looks SO good! A few I read recently that are both historical and magical are A Marvellous Light (and the sequel A Restless Truth) by Freya Marske, and Ordinary Monsters by JM Miro. I loved both of them and highly recommend them.

hi, omg thank u sm!! i am very into reading and could talk about books for ages i will not lie

short answer to your question is yes, i would absolutely recommend the poppy war!! it’s rly enthralling & i’ve fallen so hard for the characters... i’m almost halfway thru the third book and truly so invested that it’s interrupting my daily schedule because i just wanna keep reading!!

that said, the content is pretty brutal at times. it doesn’t shy away from the grim realities of war, which is part of the whole message of the series, but can definitely be hard to read. i would stress a massive trigger warning for rape, as well as death (tons of it), violence (including body horror/mutilation/injury/torture), and abuse. it also goes into heavy topics like genocide and mass murder, racism, classism, colonization and imperialism.

the series (especially the first book) is actually based on real events, so if you want to get a vague idea of what you’re in for, you could research the second sino-japanese war a bit. i’m also happy to expand more on any of this!!

Hello! :) What's the best book you have read lately? I've been loving the Avatar novels (Kyoshi, Yangchen). They re-spark my joy for the TV show! Currently I'm reading The Court of Miracles by K. Grant. Have you read it? It's a historical fantasy set in 1820s Paris. I love the historical city setting and the concept of different guilds (e.g. thieves guild). I think the book has the potential to become a new favourite of mine. :) Have a good and peaceful day!

The best book I read recently was Divine Rivals. It's a perfect book to cozy up with in the first days of fall; it reads like historical fiction, but with fantasy elements and tons of heart. I loved it. ❤️
