Okay so haunt season is already almost over but here are some problems that there are every year that should be obviously something you shouldn't do but there's always assholes who do SO;
-if you have certain fear responses, just don't go to a haunted house. some examples are violent reactions, puking, pissing yourself, shit like that
-YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE TO ASSAULT HAUNT ACTORS !!! you pay to go to a haunted house to get scared, you do not get to kick, punch, spit on, or in any other way try to harm the actors who are literally doing their job and scaring you LIKE YOU PAYED FOR
-back to the violent fear response, if you have one and still choose to be a dick and go to a haunt, and still hurt a worker, fucking apologise instead of speeding past when you realize what you've done. they most likely won't break character bc there are very few instances where actors are allowed to, but still apologize and ask if they're okay
-DON'T FLIRT WITH ACTORS! They are literally doing their job and definitely aren't interested. on a more serious note for this, assault on a haunt actor is still assault, in any context. don't grop them, don't verbally harass them (ie call them things like daddy or mommy or ask them about sexual stuff, shit like that)
-if you're gonna try to be 'quirky🤪' and try to scare the actors or hold up the line to try to start conversations or try to do things like hug them and shit, don't even bother going. that shits annoying as fuck, and you definitely aren't the only person to try it. it happens multiple times a night.
-DONT TRY TO MAKE THEM BREAK CHARACTER. this should be common sense, but apparently it isn't. they can literally lose their job for that, so don't do it.
-dont threaten the actors (say that you'll punch/kick/hit them, say that you'll kill them, ECT.) it's fucking TERRIFYING to hear stuff like that, especially the last example, because they have no way of knowing if you're serious or not, and there have been assholes who have dragged actors out of their spots and assaulted them, and fucking monsters who have actually brought weapons
-dont try to get it on in the fucking haunt. actors don't want to see that shit, especially since there's a very good chance some of the workers are minors. you can literally get arrested for public indecency and you'll be charged as a sex offender. don't pull that shit.
-DONT TRY TO TAKE ACTORS PROPS !! they literally need them to do their job, you're just a fucking asshole and it's still theft. some haunts sell things like light sticks, DONT STICK THEM IN THE ACTORS' FACES/HIDING SPOTS !! 1.) you can literally blind them, 2.) you can hit them in the face with it, 3.) some actors' spot rely on the fact that it's pitch black, sticking a light in there ruins the scare.
-!! THIS MIGHT BE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES !! DO NOT FUCK WITH THE ANIMATRONICS !! Don't push people onto them, don't get too close to them, just do NOT mess with them. this could literally get you seriously injured or even killed. even the most sturdy, well made animatronic could malfunction. you have no way of knowing when that would happen. going through a haunt you won't know what each animatronic does. getting too close could be the biggest mistake of your life. they are machines who rely on sensors, both of which can malfunction. an animatronic won't stop if you get injured. it could literally kill you. respect the animatronics and you'll be okay. fuck with them and whatever happens happens at your expense.
-when going through the haunt, the ways you are supposed to go should be made obvious, even in th dark. the hallways where you are supposed to go should be lit at least in some way (ie colored lights, strobe lights, extremely dim lights, ECT), you would see entrances to other room, actors, and/or animatronics. if you see a really small door, most likely covered in a curtain, do not go this way!! this is an employee entrance/exit, if you go through there you would either be skipping part of the haunt or entering back rooms where you are definitely not supposed to be.
-if you actually need to get out of the haunt because you're too scared, do not race through each room until you get to the end. it's too dangerous, you wouldn't be looking where you're going and would most likely be in a blind panic. instead go to the closest actor and explain that you need to leave. they should be able to escort you to the nearest exit, or call someone over to get you out.
-DO NOT BRING CHILDREN!!! Even if the haunt you're going to says it has no age limit, it's dangerous to bring anyone under 13. children don't have the capability to understand that it's all fake the same way that adults do. it's literally traumatizing to them. they could also break away and run ahead out of fear and get lost and make the situation even scarier.
-if you're going with a group of over 8 people, PLEASE split your group up into two smaller groups. yes one group would be further ahead of the other and would go in before the other, but it's safer and makes sure no one gets trampled, and is easier for the actors to do their jobs
