i can imagine valentino being really upset about this, because maxime’s decision came out of nowhere and valentino had no idea beforehand. the whole thing started when kmag filled the spot for the bmw hypercar, and maxime felt betrayed by bmw, so he switched to mercedes amg. he said he didn’t expect his second marriage with bmw to end so soon, especially after all those years of showing them his desire to drive hypercar, but bmw never really took him seriously.

sure! some of this isn’t necessarily tea, just some things i know about him, if that’s also cool with you!

1. he is single! yes, he’s been following and unfollowing girls like it’s his job (and i find it hilarious because it sounds like he unfollows them when they don’t follow him back 😭 petty king) and liking photos, but i haven’t been told of anything or anyone he’s been seeing / been exclusive with.

2. going off of #1, luke isn’t really the kind of guy to do hookups. (i think a lot of people know this now but if you didn’t, yeah, he’s not really a hookup kind of guy)

3. he’s funny. oh, my god, you guys, he is genuinely so funny, and his humor is extremely blunt and dry, or deadpan, if you’d like to call it that. i’m never not laughing when i see him at devils events or other places.

4. he’s shy, and very, very nice. shy isn’t the perfect word to use here, but he definitely isn’t extroverted. (though the 🦋 told me that he is definitely the loudest and craziest/most hyper of the three brothers when around friends / the team LOL)

5. on the umich game tea circling - i’ll be honest, i am absolutely not sure about this one, so i won’t answer for this tea. i can ask around, but i’m genuinely not sure if they’ll be going to umich’s first game of the season this year. it depends on when sheldon & rick want players back in new jersey / vancouver for preseason, and if they can swing it with their schedules. i know a few of their friends from umich were joking / commenting on socials that they have to come for a fantasy football punishment, but we’ll see!

i doubt this will ever reach the person it's intended for but i do want to point out that lewis very much lost the psychological battle to jenson button. and he did so because jenson was nice. that tall british rodent man (affectionate) showed up at mclaren and was kind and polite to his engineers and mechanics and lewis lost his fucking mind. tweeted out his telemetry. had a full twitter can't believe he unfollowed me i thought we were friends but i guess not meltdown only to realise that jenson never followed him in the first place. got so upset by the team having the audacity to like jenson that he spent an entire year driving into felipe massa. i don't think that would ever happen now, even when he lost to george he didn't give a fuck. but it is important to me that people know lewis has absolutely lost psychological battles before in situations when it was in no way personal. him losing the fight with nico was not just because they'd known each other since they were 12, it was also because lewis is paranoid as fuck and has a history of taking things incredibly personally

qatar gp 2024: penalties and safety cars galore indeed. here is an attempted compilation of all the notable incidents and penalties (+ penalty points) that fia threw around like free cookies

im attempting this in a chronological order following the issuance of the penalties but. they were so many things happening so whatever we ball. and as always thank you my fantastic f1 mother @missed-apexes

so first of all. we all know of the max one position grid penalty (+1 pp) but of course, he beautifully overtook george right off in turn 1! love that for him

first crash, esteban, franco, and nico collision. franco and esteban were out, nico slightly damaged (?)

first penalty issued in the race: alex & lance collision. stroll retires eventually, while getting a 10s penalty. he might serve this next race?

lewis hamilton had a false start. 5s penalty.

bottas and lawson near-collision(?). apparently liam understeered/spun and bottas had to go wide to avoid. liam gets 10s penalty (+2 pp).

insert zhou's very magnificent overtaking yuki!

george was consistently on p2 and pitted but was fucked over by his 7s pit stop. rest in rip.

alex's wing mirror fell on the track. the shot of the singular mirror lying there on the track was comical but the delay of sc or any actions taken about it is insane even the commentators were confused

bottas drove over the wing mirror, got damage. the debris fluttered all over the track and caused puncture to lewis and sainz.

safety car for the debris was finally deployed 4 LAPS LATE (wtf race control)

perez lost drive, dropped to the last from what i remember was p5-6, and retired. not sure if this was during or after the safety car ended.

nico hulkenberg also out. his tyres just. gave out and he spun. at this point survival is optional in the qatar gp.

lando not lifting during double waved yellow flags on the straights (this happened before the sc was deployed for the debris). 10s stop/go penalty (+3 pp). this was a massive gamechanger for the podium as he was stable on p2. and a stop/go specifically... well, as a mclaren hater i rejoiced. (3 penalty points is crazy though)

another collision for alex, with k-mag this time. 10s penalty (+2 pp) for alex.

lewis apparently did a lil speeding in the pitlane. drive-through penalty.

lewis was told to retire the car but ignored it.

george did a sc infringement (which i did not see so im not sure what exactly happened). a fia update stated his car was more than 20 car lengths behind, when it is supposed to be 10. 5s penalty (+1 pp).

DRIVER OF THE DAY: ZHOU GUANYU (P8) im so happy for him. literally carried kick's points this season (4 points).

podium result: max p1, charles p2, oscar p3, and it's insane charles did all that without drinking because his drinking system broke. forza ferrari.

charles is now only 8 points behind norris in the wdc!

birth of gax/rustappen beef ;

outside race bonus: max being extremely pissed at george, saying he's lost all respect for him and can't stand him because "he's always acting polite in front of cameras but inside there he's a completely different person." gax beef in 2024... interesting.

edit: addition on the last point as requested by oomf, in the press conference max stated that george was trying all he can to screw max over and pushing for the penalty. max kept trying to explain he has no motives to screw other cars over, and he's going slow following other cars' slow laps, but it felt like talking to a wall. basically, max called george a fake two-faced bitch (he didn't say this but you know what i mean) and lost all respect to him.

funny to note that this is max's 63rd win.

it is also worth noting that before the race, max had told george on the drivers parade holding room, something along the lines of "hope you and your fia mates are happy with what you've done." and according to ted the quote was actually much ruder. POP OFF

what is your take on lestappen being/becoming a reverse brocedes?

I'm assuming by reverse Brocedes you mean that they start out enemies and end up 'everything bar lovers' (to quote Crofty about Lewis and Nico), rather than Max and Charles becoming teammates, fighting for championships and being a pseudo-Brocedes. I saw the idea of Lestappen as a reverse Brocedes summed up perfectly by someone somewhere on the internet a couple of months ago (don't remember who but please shout if it's you):

If Brocedes is the thesis, then Lestappen is the antithesis.

(More thoughts below the cut)

We begin with Brocedes, the thesis. Lewis and Nico were supposed to be the ones who made it. They became fast childhood friends, Lewis went on vacation with Nico's family often, Nico did Lewis's kart set-up when he broke his wrist, etc. etc. Nothing could ruin their friendship until they were fighting for championships and suddenly they're keeping secrets, refusing to share any details of their race for fear that it could help the other. They play mind games against each other, outwardly saying that the other isn't their friend, etc. Fast forward to now, they both live in Monaco, in the same building, but Lewis refuses to even speak Nico's name still.

Then we come to Lestappen, the antithesis. Nothing about Max and Charles's past insinuates that they were going to be friendly. Both generational talents, they were pitted together on the karting tracks of Europe from the earliest points they could remember (Lestappen met when they were both 5!). Everyone who ever met them and interviewed them confirmed that this would be the next big F1 rivalry. Both of them are open about the fact that they truly obsessively hated each other all throughout their childhoods. Fast forward to F1 and sure there are a few scuffles (Austria 2019 and the great Instagram unfollowing) but then they're in a championship fight and someone can never find something bad to say about the other. In fact they seek each other out to analyse and break down the race. In the middle of all this, they suddenly find themselves sharing a friend group of drivers. Max has moved to Monaco and learns to play padel with Charles's family friends, and Charles has lunch with Max's extended family.

Lestappen are the reverse Brocedes in every single way, Max and Charles's dynamic refutes the idea of Lewis and Nico's dynamic in entirety, from start to finish. I have many brainworms about the juxtaposition of these two, but @il-predestinato has a pretty excellent fic about this as well.

In conclusion: yes. Lestappen are reverse Brocedes.

I love this! I actually have a similar headcanon of Will liking having Nico in the infirmary with him, partially because Nico can sense death so they can have two people monitoring people's statuses with their powers (even if Nico thinks he's more hindering than helping). And also because Nico can stave off death a bit if he's prepared for it (most often by literally just glaring into the middle-distance at a Thanatos only he can see until one of them backs down).

“Good” Lewis sighed, pulling out a new toothbrush, unwrapping it and giving it to Nico who just looked confused

“Come on“ He encouraged, sighing when Nico whined “You’re useless when you’re drunk- especially wine drunk” He was more talking to himself when he squeezed toothpaste onto the brush

Lewis moved to stand between Nico’s legs, pulling slightly on his chin “Open up” Nico did, looking up at Lewis with soft eyes ass he slowly and softly started brushing Nico’s teeth

“Don’t look at me like that” Lewis sighed, seeing the way Nico’s eyes were full of lust, even though he tried hiding it behind his soft blue eyes

Nico hummed confused but with a wicked look in his eyes as Lewis was now brushing the front of his teeth, his hand soft on Nico’s jaw

“You know what you’re doing” Lewis sighed, washing off the toothbrush, putting it in the cup on the sink where he kept his own and the toothpaste

Is he gonna keep it? Nico thought as Lewis helped him to stand up and wash his mouth clean

Lewis turned off the lights, helping Nico to walk out of the bathroom again and to the living room

Nico turned his body to walk towards the couch, but Lewis pulled him towards the bedroom

Nico sighed relieved when he felt the softness of Lewis’s bed under him “Stay on your side” Lewis said as he moved Nico onto his side “Don’t want you to choke on your own vomit”

Lewis dragged the sheets over Nico’s body. He seemed so small now, even though he’s taller than Lewis

Lewis sat on the edge of the bed beside Nico’s body, stroking his hair softly “You’re the best friend somebody could ever wish for” Nico mumbled as he closed his softly

“If this is what is like to have kids, I don’t want any” Lewis chuckled softly, his hand still stroking Nico’s messy hair even after he fell asleep

The moment Lewis had laid down on the couch, he could already feel he would wake up with a stiff neck

Nico’s footsteps were heavy as he walked to the kitchen where he heard Lewis move around

Lewis chuckled softly as Nico groaned as he sat down on the bar stool

“Take this with this” Lewis handed Nico some painkillers and a glass of water “And then drink this,” He said as he slid a glass of juice to him “And eat this” He placed a plate of eggs and bacon in front of him

“You don’t have to” Nico mumbled, embarrassed by the actions he *remembered* from yesterday

“I believe your words were ‘Don’t let Vivian see me like this’. This helps hangovers- always cures them after an hour for me” Lewis hummed, shrugging slightly

Nico did as instructed. Looking into the plate ashamed

“Never speak of this again?” Lewis asked softly, leaning forward against the counter

“Yes” Nico breathed out

Flower shop. Vivian’s favourite. Bakery. Buns and one of Vivian’s favourite pasties

“What’s this for?” Vivian asked as she saw the table set out for her and the girls

“An apology” Nico sighed softly, pulling his wife into a soothing hug

“Apology? For what, Schatz?” She chuckled softly, confused as to what he did

“You don’t need to know” He sighed, breathing in her scent from her neck “Just that I love you”

“Okay” She chuckled confused, but dismissed it

He let it sit for an hour, only following Lewis back after Vivian had gone to bed, having gotten tired early

Lewis: You hate Château Pichon

Nico: It’s your favourite

Nico: Was feeling nostalgic

Lewis: You just have three bottles of wine you hate lying around?

Nico didn’t answer. He didn’t know what to answer. He bought them when he felt like he missed Lewis too much. He never drank them, he kept them around though, in a cabinet he knew Vivian wouldn’t look in

Lewis: Got more?

Nico: Yes

Lewis: Are the girls and Vivian asleep?

Nico: Yes

Lewis: Bring one up. The door’s unlocked

Deja vu. Nico grabbed the railing of the elevator harshly with one hand, the other wrapped around an expensive bottle of wine he didn’t like

He walked into Lewis’s apartment, closing the door behind him

Nico walked further into the apartment, seeing Lewis sitting on the couch

Before Lewis could speak, Nico had put the wine on the coffee table and straddled Lewis on the couch, kissing him

“Nico” Lewis pushed Nico’s head slightly back “You’re married” He panted

“But I’m not drunk” He panted as well “You said you would if I wasn’t drunk”

“I never said that” Lewis’s hands were softly placed on Nico’s hips

“You didn’t say no. Actually, you didn’t say anything” Nico shrugged slightly, licking his lips softly

Nico was right. Lewis hadn’t said anything. Not a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’

“Yes,” Lewis said softly, his hands tightening slightly around Nico’s hips

Nico didn’t waste any more time before his lips were back on Lewis’s. The kiss was messy, all tongue and spit

“Get up” Lewis mumbled against Nico’s lips, squeezing his hip softly

Nico did as requested, getting up from Lewis’s lap, and helping him up as well. Lewis pulled Nico into a heated kiss again, backing him up towards the bedroom, closing the door after them

The kiss only broke so they could both pull their shirts- after they went back to kissing, Lewis managed to push Nico onto the bed without breaking the contact between their lips for even a second

Lewis started kissing down Nico’s chest and stomach, feeling him squirm under his touch. His hands were on Nico’s belt, working on getting it unbuckled as he mouthed at the skin right above his waistband

Nico whimpered as Lewis pulled his jeans and boxers down, throwing them to the floor and immediately working his mouth on his pale thighs- licking, sucking, biting, kissing

If Nico was less fucked out, he’s be embarrassed about the small but needy sounds he let out, as well as he would push Lewis away for leaving fucking marks on him

Lewis kissed Nico’s body back up, stopping at his neck, leaving open-mouthed kisses, but not leaving any marks

“Lew” Nico whined, his nails dragging down Lewis’s back, need flowing through his body like a deadly infection

Lewis reached over to the nightstand, getting the lube in the drawer “You can still say no” He panted, leaning away from Nico’s body

“Why would I say no?” Nico asked confused, trying to pull Lewis back down who merely laughed softly

Lewis pushed the cap of the bottle, pouring some lube onto his fingers, his other hand ghosting his nails down Nico’s body as he warmed the lube up

Lewis loved the way Nico whimpered and whined as his fingers circled his hole, spreading the lube around and relaxing his muscles

He pushed in his finger, smirking softly as Nico moaned quietly, his eyes screwed shut, his back arching slightly

Nico subconsciously ground his hips against Lewis’s hand, trying to get him to move his finger

Lewis slowly started moving his finger, more desperate sounds leaving Nico’s throat

When he was loose enough, Lewis added a second finger, moving them when Nico had adjusted

Nico moaned loudly when Lewis curled his fingers, hitting his prostate. Lewis was amazed at how quickly Nico had started mumbling incoherent German

The whine that came out of Nico was lewd as Lewis pulled his fingers out slowly, leaving him feeling empty at the loss

Lewis didn’t bother to clean his fingers before he moved to push down his sweats and boxers

“You okay?” Lewis asked softly, kissing up Nico’s body while also reaching for the bottle of lube again

“Mhm. Yeah,” Nico answered with soft nods “Jus’... Need a minute” His breathing was heavy as he watched Lewis stroke himself a few times with the lube “‘M ready” He said, trying to pull Lewis closer by the waist

“That was a quick minute” Lewis chuckled softly, positioning himself so the head of his dick was nudging against Nico’s hole, making him whimper

“You’re too irresistible to wait more than 30 seconds” Both Nico’s and Lewis’ breathing were heavy as Lewis slowly pushed into Nico

“Sounds like you’re a little obsessed” Lewis chuckled, strained with a groan as he felt Nico clench down around him as he adjusted

Nico was about to spit out a witty response, but it came out as a moan instead as Lewis slowly started moving his hips, his hands holding onto Nico’s

The moans coming from Nico got gradually louder the faster and harder Lewis went, pulling soft moans out of himself as well

“Mhm” Lewis hummed “Or you could stay. I can wake you up in the morning early and you can get back home before Vivian or the girls notice you’re gone” He suggested

pt 1

It had been a rough four months for you.

You truly thought that Nico was the reason why your problems started but it seemed that leaving him only caused more. Sure it was easy finding yourself a little one bed apartment in the heart of Newark but you couldn’t stop thinking about him.

Nico was everywhere, literally. The billboards, the ads, the local news and newspapers, even on social media because you had followed the Devils for such a long time that your account didn’t seem to notice when you unfollowed the Devils as the universe wanted you to feel the pain of seeing Nico content scattered throughout your for you pages.

A friend suggested that you put yourself onto a dating app, not because they wanted you to find some rebound but because they thought you needed a confidence boost.

Well what a real confidence boost it was when you were in the middle of swiping through different profiles and you were faced with Nicos. Sure it was hypocritical but seeing him on there was a punch to your gut, however, it did make you think back to his alleged mistress that he had been seen with the day after you broke up with him.

It was like a last resort when your friends dragged you to a bar, the shitty week you had combined with the pictures of some girl leaving a restaurant under the comfort of Nico’s arm meant that you were in dire need of a pick me up.

Despite what the steady stream of girls in and out of Nico’s life the captain truly did miss you. He didn’t enjoy sitting at home on the couch alone because all he’d end up doing was just stare at your seat.

Yes you were that kind of couple, your big L shaped couch had a cushion that you sat on and it was right next to Nico’s.

His coping methods certainly weren’t healthy but it was very much like bandaid on a duct tape size hole. For every girl in his bed it was less space that you had available for you to haunt his mind.

It was a major blow to the ego watching you walk out of the door to your apartment, yes you were putting on a brave face for your friends but that didn’t stop Nico from growing irritated.

You two were meant to be the total end game of couples, the big proposal with the Disney princess wedding, it was all meant to be in your future but you just threw it all away.

And for what? Sure Nico hadn’t accepted any type of boyfriend duty over the last month but that wasn’t his fault, he had been going through a rough patch as an ice hockey player and as an NHL team captain so you had to be put on the back burner.

It honestly surprised him when you left he couldn’t even really process what happened because two days later and he was already on a flight starting a fourteen day road trip.

Your dating profile had thrown him off. Really he had no clue why you were on that app, not when he was trying to get you back at least.

Sure his efforts might have been unsuccessful, he tried calling your friends, even showing up to their apartments asking where you were but none of them ever said a word usually acting like they weren’t home.

They had also blocked Nico from everything on your phone so that he couldn’t try to call, because they all knew you’d go running back the moment he called.

So when he finally got a sighting of life from you as the captain stared over Jacks shoulder to see your Instagram story with the caption girls night.

He knew what he had to do. Yes it was a little unorthodox but Nico knew the only bar in the whole of Jersey that you went to with your friends. The group loved the atmosphere and the bartenders so you guys were never going to change things.

And that’s how it happened, Nico walked in and within milliseconds he had found you.

You were talking to some guy who seemed to find everything you said hilarious.

Nico didn’t often get jealous but when you put your hand on the boys arm it unlocked a part of the captain that only you could find.

That was the thing about you two, Nico did love you and that part was real. But the fame and stress of being captain had officially gotten to him and maybe that meant it would be better if you weren’t in his life anymore. At least then he couldn’t fuck your life up anymore than he already had.

Yet when that guy leaned down to kiss you it had the Swiss man striding over to you quicker than he could try to apologise “hey schatzi!” Nico called out causing your head to quickly whip around.

You thought you were dreaming when you locked eyes with Nico “you didn’t tell me you had a boyfriend,” the boy you had been talking to spat as he sent you a glare “keep that bitch bro,” he added as he turned his attention to Nico.

The captain really wished that he didn’t say that “what’d you just call her?” He scoffed as he furrowed his eyebrows “a fucking bitch,” the younger of the two boys repeated himself.

All you could do was watch on as Nico grabbed him by the shirt “that wasn’t very nice,” Nico pointed out as he clenched his fist causing you to realise what was going on.

It was like clockwork as you quickly tried to get between the two of them “he isn’t worth it Neeks,” you placed your hand on the captains shoulder as you sent him a serious look.

But that didn’t seem to work “he can’t be calling you shit like that,” as right as Nico was you didn’t want to cause a scene “if you let him go I’ll talk,” you offered as you pursed your lips into a thin line.

Clearly that’s why he came over to you right?

Nico didn’t even have to think about it as he dropped the boy sending him a glare that caused him to scurry off “outside,” you motioned to the door knowing that your friends would kill you if they saw you with him.

He grabbed your hand as you pulled him outside “and I’m not your fucking schatzi anymore,” you added as you scoffed.

The captain had to say that he really thought it would be easier getting you back “baby-” Nico tried to reach out as you continued pacing back and forth at the entrance of the bar.

You sent him a glare as you stopped “I dumped you Neeks I can’t be your baby anymore either!” You added as you began to grow frustrated.

Nico sighed as he held his hand out for you to grab so that he could pull you closer “I know I fucked up baby,” he mumbled as he let his hands fall to your waist as you stood between his legs.

It was pathetic the way you practically melted into his touch “let me make it up to you,” he proposed as his voice went soft.

Anyone who saw you would have thought that you were a couple calming down after a night, not one who was trying to get back together.

But when you remained silent it gave Nico the green light to continue talking “I missed you ya know?” He confessed as he tucked your hair behind your face giving him a chance to really look at you.

Your lips formed a pout “no you didn’t,” you shook your head “not when you’ve got all of those girls.” That was your way of telling him that you knew about them all and that you weren’t actually impressed by it.

The boy smiled “they don’t compare to you,” he whispered as he hooked his two fingers under your jaw.

That should have been the moment you ran away “promise?” You asked voice barely a whisper at this point.

Nico nodded “of course I do baby,” before you knew it the Swiss man leaned in to kiss you. It wasn’t earth shattering or suffocating either, it was hungry but sweet. He let his tongue swipe across your bottom lip and just as you were about to let him in you pulled away.

“Take me home Neeks or lose me forever,”

Oscar can invent some new insults to throw at Carlos, and really turn the shade up to 11 there.

Carlos can make sure Oscar does not know peace on track or during interviews.

George can imply that every single team is cheating and that he has proof.

Lewis can say that Fernando should retire.

Kmag can just be himself ✨ and claim his next victim

Nico can start beef with both Alpine cars

Yuki can follow Danny on insta again just so he can unfollow him a second time

Alpine can keep doing what it is they are doing

Charles can imply something else about the Mclaren and Red Bull cars and be even more vague about it

Valtteri and Zhou should impede everyone else in the pitlane to even out the playing field a little

Max should start doing lap by lap critiques of every driver's race, pointing out every mistake they made

Lewis should up his very valid crit of the FIA more

Lance should say he wants sprint weekends at every race and refuse to elaborate

Fernando should be true to himself :)

an Introduction

I loved the PJO series. The Kane Chronicles were the first books I read by Rick. Of course I grew up and learned more about the world and the problems presented by the portrayals. But I liked them, then read the Lost Hero and stopped. 

And wondered, why did I find Heroes of Olympus so lacking in comparison?

I decided to reread the first book, and write what I thought about it, chapter by chapter.

I will try to write what I think could be improved. 

I have read the Lost Hero once before, and stopped. I read it all in one go, so this time, I plan to stop and reflect on it, and my feelings. 

It does include roasting, not because I dislike Rick on a personal level, but some days I'm just straight up in a mood to be picky,  and this is a good way to do so in peace. 

I do like Rick Riordian's writing. If I didn't feel the energy to care, I wouldn't be doing this. Yes, it's probably going to involve roasting, AU imagine spots, and comparisons to other characters. The story was not created in a vacuum, and is in fact a sequel. I have expectations, based on his previous works, and one of the things that drew me into it was humor and ADHD. 

In the end, remember that this is a blog personal reflection, and you don't have to share the same opinion, and are welcome to block or unfollow if it makes your blogging experiences uncozy.

Fair warning, this blog will update on random whims, it is very unscheduled.

So that said, what do I remember of the characters? Let's see. 

JASON.

Who is Jason? Jason is amnesiac , for plot reasons, and a Roman Demigod, as well as Thalia Grace's little brother. Hopefully, there will be some nice moments between them down the road, despite their different alliances. We could have seen such a relationship between a sibling in camp, and a sister with the hunters, if the new hunter didn't die in the book she was introduced in. There were some interesting things that could have been done with her character if she were alive, such as exploring why she left Nico in camp to join a girl hunting party, practically the minute she could. Had she been thinking about her orientations, and left the minute she found seemingly like minded people? Was she desperate not to be responsible for him anymore? It just seems like it all happened, to hurt Nico, because she is not explored for very long, or in any particular detail, and it feels like she was killed for the sake of Nico’s character arc. 

But I've gone off topic. Jason does not remember, except when he stands up for the Romans who fought out of the blue, and his relationship with Piper that didn't happen. He's pretty out of his depth, and it shows throughout the book. 

PIPER.

Oh boy. This is a long one. Piper is the second female protagonist Rick has written from the perspective of, and I liked Sadie, a lot better. Piper feels kind of like "I'm not like other girls". One thing I found in the other books, that I didn't find in these protagonists, was a sense of humor, that frankly I didn't feel from the protagonists in this book. Maybe it will show up later. I hope so. 

Back to Piper. A daughter of Aphrodisiac and a native American Celebrity, Piper often feels lonely and wants more attention from her father. To this end, she uses her lvl 50 persuade… er charmspeak, to talk people into letting her do stuff, and gets into trouble, when it wears off, and they realise “wait wtf”. Like all children of Aphrodisiac,  she radiates beauty. On one hand, that's pretty cool, the most beautiful POV character thus far, is of mixed native descent. However, I have to wonder if it will be properly explored. 

*Aphrodisiac is a spelling mistake by spellcheck. I left it because it amused me

Do you remember why Carter always dresses his best, In the first book? His dad insists on it, yes, but they are black men, and he doesn't want to give the cops any more reasons to give them trouble, trouble they will have more than enough of with the colour of their skin. At the end of the first book, Carter moves to dressing more casual, a move that is supported by both Sadie and his parents. 

How does Piper deal with discrimination and stereotypes?  She's a girl, which means it might show up in different ways, and be aimed at her sex out loud? Does she, too, get set off by the term half blood, like Carter? Does it bypass her somewhat, by being a celebrity's daughter? Are people more likely to project spoiled rich kids expectations onto her?

*Do I want to touch her kleptomania here? Hard no. That is a bomb I will avoid going into in introductions.

Piper, like Carter, has thoughts on clothing. Carter wanted to wear normal clothes, and wondered what his life would be like if he grew up a normal kid. Piper has an unrepentant tomboy style, and is someone  who doesn't care how she looks, yet is gorgeous anyways. She seems to look down on girls who dress girly, and act like it, and intentionally does things differently. To me, this is a character flaw, in that she is being judgemental about people with different attitudes  from her, and I think in doing so she is being just as snobby as the people she is looking down on. I wonder if part of her future character growth will be realising that, and changing her attitude towards them, maybe even learning some of the things they can teach her. Even if it's not her thing, that doesn't mean she shouldn't respect people who do like makeup and whatnot. 

While I'm talking about beauty, I wonder if there will be any part in the books that explore the pitfalls of being beautiful. Particularly  as a woman. Women have a long history of objectification, and while things seem more equal among the demigods, children of Aphrodisiac seem to be something of an exception. Apparently, those campers have never been on a quest, and aren't shown to be learning any particular skill at camp. It seems they are stuck in being the stereotype of “the chick.” And are there any sons of Aphrodisiac? Does she just clone herself using males DNA to pad a difference? Or are there two separate cabins for them, and we have not seen them yet? Because off what I remember, the beauty standards seem to be patricary catered. 

Ah, I've gotten a bit off point. The pitfalls of being female, particularly a beautiful one. A big one is guys. You're trying to shop, or just walking, or watching a play, whatever, doing your own business, when a wolf whistle pierces the air. Or a guy asks you out. Or keeps following you, trying to get you to give him your number. Or winks at you out of the blue, groped you as you were passing him on the bus, sends you sexual harassment on a text, or shouts it at you. Or is a “nice guy” who drops you when you won't date him, after trying to pressure you. It's not just strangers. The world judges you on beauty. It makes you likelier to be hired, gives people a more favorable impression of you, and often takes a lot of maintaining. Beauty and brains is considered an exception, guys don't want to date people smarter than them, and can come to resent it in a partner. 

Do we see Piper, having struggles being a beautiful woman? A beautiful Native woman, (many of whom have problems with over sexualization?)Do guys bother her in public? Has she been friends with “nice guys” in the past? Does she have trouble trusting Leo at first because of experiences like that? Does she get frustrated at this treatment, and tell guys off, only to get slapped with the label “crazy bitch?” Does she have trouble getting people to take her ideas seriously,  because she's a woman? Scratch the last one, charmspeak possibly overrides those objections. 

Sadie Kane, was a bit boy Crazy. She had two guys into her, one a god, a conflict which was resolved by having the mortal boy she liked, host the god she liked. Is it a bit wish fulfillment? I won't disagree. But I didn't feel It got overtly annoying, and it was reciprocated, and they managed to make it work for them. I do wish there hadn't been a time skip, and we could have seen them develop more, but established friendships are given pretty good attention, such as Percy and Grover. His friendship with Rachel, was pretty well done, as was Annabeth. Rick knows how to build a relationship up, and Percybeth was well built, so what is he doing here with Piper and Jason? It was built on a lie, subbed in for Jason current relationship with another girl. 

From what I remember, Piper is upset that it was a lie, but also seems possessive about something that wasn't hers. Let's take a shot of water every time Piper thinks about Jason. Take 2 Shots every time she does something romantic coded with Jason, instead of building a friendship with the boy she is fixated on. Drink some juice ,every time she and Leo act like friends. Yah know,cause they were friends before Jason, I'm told. Rick wrote it fine with Percy and Grover. So why can I not recall it here?

I also remember thinking some things about Piper smacked of Mary sue. Now, I know that is unfair, women too should be allowed power fantasy, and sues are good learning experiences, but Sadie never felt that way to me, despite getting magic easily, from the goddess in her head, to the point leather boots didn't impede her. Or how her love subplot ended with essentially getting both boys. Rick knows how to write relatable women, so what's happening here? 

Yah, I have a lot of thoughts on Piper. Maybe more will come later. Idk. 

LEO.

I didn't actually remember much of Leo beyond Dead mom, mechanic, super Mechanic, angsting, and fire. All have shiney rare powers. He and Piper are supposedly besties. I would like to see it.  Still, I've heard hes interesting, so I'll try to keep a sharper eye out.
