“What can I say to your mom to let you come outside?
You know I'll be seeking if you run and hide
If the door were to open, would you walk through the frame?
If you're too afraid, it won't be you I blame”
— Triple Dog Dare, Lucy Dacus
February 09, 2039 Winter
“I chose this single star
From out the wide night’s numbers —
Sue — forevermore!”
When Emily Dickinson wrote for Sue, she knew what to say, she had touched her for much more than fifteen minutes. Though I will always have the chance to love Ellie, I won’t ever know what it’s like to have her. As long as I’m too scared to come off my shell, I will never know what it is like to own a Susan of my own. Must “be of itself a bliss” to hold such soft skin, to feel such callused fingers and to feel your heart burning. Must be of itself a bliss for intimacy to feel intimate and not invasive.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────••─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
I hid my journal and went back to the kitchen, as usual. It’s been a few weeks since my mom last let me leave the house. The windows were also kept closed, it was my punishment for, as Mama said, “going against who I was.” She said I’ve been acting unlike me, and that her beautiful daughter would have never done such things.
So I’ve been trying my best to be as close to the old me as possible so she can forgive. I know I’ve already lost Ellie, there’s no way she would want anything to do with me after all that went down on our first date. So my goal now is to just go back to where I was before it all went down: my mom’s good graces.
I finished brooming the kitchen and went for the cookies I left in the oven. “Aren’t you gonna grab some? They’ll be cold when you’re back.” I asked my mom. “I’m sure they’ll be fine”, she replied. She’s been going on patrol while I’m home. At first I thought she trusted me not to go outside but then I realized the door was simply locked anyway. I got her her bag and she walked out, placing a kiss on my forehead.
As the door was locked again, I went to the bathroom for a shower. My face looked horrible, I looked undead. Dark circles that denounced loads of sleepless nights and messy hair that indicated many depressing mornings, both that differed from my always-put-together self. I decided to wash my face and brush my hair for once, also to eat something. After, I went back to my room and my endless pile of poetry where I could find a bit of peace, some were even self written.
I heard some steps outside my room and I thought my mom may have forgotten something. I walked to the living room, still holding my book. I almost fell on my back when I saw Ellie climbing a window in the living room.
“What the fuck are you doing?!” I gasped, walking up to her.
“I- I picked the lock on the window.” She couldn’t contain the excitement on her face. “You’re alive.”
I restrained a smile. “Of course I’m alive. But not for long if my mom sees you here.”
She shook her head, still smiling. “No, no, no. Joel’s on patrol with her, he promised to keep her busy for at least two hours so we could talk.” I sat down on the sofa.
“Talk about what?” I started feeling nervous. I couldn’t keep eye contact with her.
“We kissed. A lot. On the blanket. I liked it.” She corrected herself. “ We liked it. And then Dina told me about your mom and how she freaked out and held you hostage-”
“She is not holding me hostage.” I interrupted Ellie. “She is my mom.”
“Oh, so you’re going to tell me that you’re here stuck with the curtains closed for two weeks because you enjoy it?” She got me there.
“I’m grounded. She didn’t like that I went out at night.” I tried to keep my confidence.
“She didn’t like that you went out or she didn’t like that you went out with me?” Ellie raised her eyebrow, sitting by my side.
“She didn’t like that I went out with you. That 's true.” I sighed. “She knows you’ve dated Cat, she’s just scared that I’m gonna end up…”
“Dating me too?” She smirked. “Damn, she thinks I’m that irresistible?”
“That’s not funny at all, Ellie!” I scolded her. “She won’t ever let me see you again, I don’t even know when she’s gonna let me see anyone. And she doesn’t even know about the kiss. I can’t stand this anymore.”
Ellie looked down. “It must suck to be here on your own all day.”
“What? No-” I shook my head. “No, I’m not worried about being here. I’m worried ‘cause I won’t ever see you! And I’ll never get to talk to you again, or to kiss you, or to-” I paused.
“You’re talking to me right now.” She looked deep into my eyes. I held my breath.
“Look,” I took her tattooed hand in mine. “I really wish I could do something, but I can’t. She’s my mom, I can’t disobey her like that and she will never let me hold you for as long as she is alive.”
She squeezed my hand, a heartbroken but conformed look in her eyes. “Then at least let’s say goodbye in the right way. Just goodbye, and then I will leave you alone and you can go back to Mike and your mom and the life she wants you to live. But for tonight, let me just…” Her voice sounded weak, could it be possible that she would cry because of me?. “Let me just love you. For tonight.” She swallowed any insistent tears.
I knew what she meant. I wanted to pretend like I didn’t but I wasn’t clueless and, to be fair, I wanted it just as much as her. “Yeah. For tonight.” It came out almost like a whisper. She didn’t lose any seconds, instantly kissing my lips and grabbing my waist. I touched her neck and kissed her like it was the last time. Well, it was.
She laid me down on the couch without breaking contact. Her hands went under my sweater, warming me up and making me forget about the cold winter. A blizzard seemed to be forming up outside but, for me, that didn’t exist. There was no “outside”. The only thing that existed was this house, this couch and the burning Summer of Ellie’s body.
I had sex with Ellie that night. She taught me things I didn’t know. Like how it feels like to explode inside of yourself, and how it feels to dewater your body onto someone else until you feel completely dry and senseless.
She dug her nails deep into my skin. It felt like she was hoping to get a piece of me under her nails, just so she could take it home with her. I, too, behaved like an animal, like I needed it. Because I needed her.
My only goal was to make this be remarkable, I want her to remember me forever. Is that selfish? I am selfish. But that’s fine, I think she is, too. The marks of her gentle biting into my neck and shoulders feel like tattoos on my skin, there to show possession. Maybe to mom, maybe to Mike. A way of saying “it doesn’t matter your position or title you may have, she is mine, mine, mine”, like a child writing their name in their favorite book at the library, or a teenager tagging their initials on their favorite spot. It may not belong to you, but it belongs with you, and she wanted everyone to know that.
We laid there in silence, staring at the ceiling, for a few minutes after we finished.
“Have you ever felt this way?” Ellie asked, gently caressing my arm.
“No. I didn’t know it could feel like this. Like, not hurt.” I replied.
“What?” She looked at me, confused. “Mike hurts you?” She looked ready to fight when I put my hands on her chest.
“No!” I chuckled. “Mike does not hurt me. I was talking about… being with someone. I didn’t know it could not feel like a chore, or a burden.”
She breathed in slowly, still staring at me. I thought maybe I had said something wrong, maybe I was too cheeky. I felt a knot on my throat. Oh my, I’ve ruined it all. That’s when she sat up straight on the couch.
“I can’t let you live like this.” She started putting on her clothes. She threw my shirt to me.
“What?!” I started getting dressed too, confused.
“I can’t let you live this. I can’t! I can’t. I can’t let you stay with your mom, I can’t let you marry Mike-” I interrupted her nervous ranting, “I am not marrying Mike.”
She looked on the verge of tears, I’ve never seen her like that. “That is only a matter of time!” She stepped in closer to me. “Look, let’s- let’s just go away. I can hunt for our food, we’ll find an abandoned farm somewhere. Look, I- we’ll find a way. We’ll be together, that’s all that matters to me.”
She looked dead serious. I am not the type to believe in fairytales, I knew we had little to no chance of survival, but I am also not the type to live unhappily. And I would rather die than live a life without her.
I started walking to a closet, she followed. I opened it with a key and, hidden behind boxes, I found the car battery my mom kept. I looked back at Ellie, she looked at me, too. We knew that the moment we took that off of its place there was no turning back. That moment I heard someone open the front door.
I froze, thinking it could only be my mom. Too late, it’s over. That was until I saw Joel, covered in fresh blood.
“I am sorry. I wasn’t able to do anything.”

Can I request some griefer headcanons for how he is with Vivian plzzz 🥺🥺🥺🥺
yeh! Hope these are alright!
(Divider by @strangergraphics)
🌵 Freaky weirdo
🌵 He's very like. creepy.
🌵 if he got close enough, he would sniff her hair
🌵 He definitely tried to bring Vivian with him to steal the Venomshank as a "date"
🌵 If/when she rejects him, he blames Orion fully for it, thinking he's turned "his love" against him.
🌵 In his boss fights, he never targets Viv. Damage/attacks always go to someone else.
🌵 He's sorta like. pushy with his feelings.
🌵 Like, he'll constantly tell Viv how much he loves her, how SHE's the only one for HIM, how HE's the only one for HER.
🌵 Basically, the timeline for his feelings over the course of his life knowing her is: Friendship becomes crush becomes love becomes adoration becomes obsession.
🌵 Basically, he's not normal about her. At all.
🌵 Either way, she has to love him! He loves her, so she loves him! that's how it works!
🌵␀ If she doesn't? That can't be right!! Sh3 h4s t0 l0v3 h1m, sh3 H4S T0!!

still day 1 - html
once again, technically not day 1, still doesn't matter,
common/basic html tags
<p> (closing </p>): creates a paragraph
<h1> (closing </h1>): creates a heading. this tag is used for the biggest headings in the page (example: a general, all encompassing title)
<h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> (closing </h2> </h3> </h4> </h5>): these four tags also create headings, each smaller than the next. h2 is bigger than h3 and so on (example: h2 can be used for a chapter title, and h3 for the title of each section of that chapter)
<h6> (closing </h6>): creates a heading. this tag is used for the smallest headings in the page
<strong> (closing </strong>): makes the text stronger, usually bolding it. this tag goes inside other tags, like <p> (example: <p>normal text <strong>bold text</strong> normal text</p>)
<em> (closing </em>): emphasizes the text, usually italicizing it. this tag goes inside other tags (example: <p>normal text <em>emphasized text</em> normal text</p>)
<a href="example"> (closing </a>): creates a clickable link. the link / path goes inside the quotes in the opening tag (in place of the word example that i put there for reference). the text you want to be able to click which directs to the link goes between the tags (example: <a href="link">text to be clicked</a>)
<br> (no closing tag): creates a line break inside a paragraph (since line breaks in the code are ignored). in other words, it sends the text after it to the next line, without creating a new paragraph, instead of having it stay in the same line as the text before it until it no longer fits
that was a lot but it's the basics i swear. also all these tags are used inside/between the <body></body> tags (explained in my "absolute basics" post which i will not link to right now sorry). that's it

SWORDTEMBER '24, DAY 16: CLOWN
Item ID: HH-2416 Item Name: Honker’s Segmented Blade-Whip Category: A-4 Origin Point: Kidd Kailey’s Intergalactic Carnival Owner: Honker McBastion Description: [This item is primarily a show prop, intended to be used by a trained professional in a controlled setting, for entertainment purposes. Employees of the Federal Port Authority tasked with handling this item should take great care, in spite of the whimsical appearance. Misuse can still cause property damage or bodily harm.] A segmented sword, approximately 70 cm in length with a 14cm handle while in its default configuration. The blade itself is primarily a stark white, with swirls of red painted across the flat of it. Only one in three of the segmented sections are kept sharp for various tricks. At the bottom of the hilt is a decorative red sphere, similar to a “clown nose” (see file EC-4471-H4) which squeaks when squeezed, while the guard of the item resembles an oversized bowtie. The handle is wood painted with a pinstripe pattern. At the press of a button, the segments of the blade unlock, separating to allow the item to be used as an unconventional whip. Connecting the segments are cloth ribbons tied together, alternating in colors red, yellow, blue, and green. There is no clear mechanism for how the ribbons fit inside the sword, nor how they retract when the button is pressed for a second time. Cataloger’s Notes: I… cannot believe the owner of this thing… is named… Honker. His legal first name! HIS BIRTH NAME. That man was destined to be a clown, I guess. The folks at the circus were also very thankful for my assistance, and apologetic for getting the initial forms incorrect, so they offered me a few free tickets to their next show. I’ve never actually been to the circus before, most of the ones that come through are a LOT more expensive. Honestly, I probably would have been able to go to Kidd Kailey’s even if they hadn’t given me free entry. Naomi is excited to go with me, apparently she hasn’t been since she was a kid.
-----
It had been a stressful week at work, certainly, with Cynthia’s boss officially announcing his upcoming “retirement” (everybody in the office knows that he was given the option to quit or be fired), as well as an unusual spike in item confiscation. Plenty of employees elected to take overtime, including herself. Now that the week is finally at its end, she can enjoy some time with her girlfriend, on a well-earned date night. Even if it’s not something she had ever really imagined doing on a date.
Like watching a starstruck Naomi participate in a pre-show juggling lesson, taught by none other than the ringleader themselves: Kidd Kailey.
“Ooh, so close! You’re doing quite well for a beginner, almost like this isn’t the first time you’ve tried juggling,” Kidd Kailey says, the second part in a stage whisper, her hand covering her mouth. Immediately, Naomi’s cheeks go pink, and she stutters out a few words that get jumbled together. Despite the way her tongue trips over itself, the meaning is parsed, and Kailey lets out a gentle, almost soothing laugh. “Nothing to be embarrassed about, dear, I’ve lost count of how many souls I’ve met that once dreamt of joining the circus. From scientists to pilots, from soldiers to politicians… even a few members of royalty. It’s a common enough dream, to want to spread joy wherever you go. No shame in taking up other things, though, as long as you still find ways to spread that joy. Now, I’m afraid I need to finish setting up for tonight’s show, but why don’t you go show that partner of yours what you’ve learned?”
With that, she bid farewell to the others gathered, then slipped away. Smiling softly, Naomi takes a moment to collect herself and admire the free juggling kit she’d been using. It’s rather simple, just a few colorful balls with the circus’ logo on them, as well as a bag to keep them in. But there’s something else, too, that hadn’t been there a few moments earlier: An autograph. That excites her even more, and she’s quick to rush back to Cynthia to show off her new trophy (as well as her renewed talent).
They spend another twenty minutes like that, and Cynthia even makes an earnest attempt at juggling. Eventually it’s almost time for the main show to begin, so they turn off their phones, find their seats, and get settled in for a good time. Nothing could ruin their night, nor add any stress. Come tomorrow, they’d be in a much better place to deal with the shifting of Cynthia’s workplace… and the new messages from her coworkers.

Lucy's DDR #1: I Love Dance
My parents and friends think I love to dance. They know without me saying it. In fact, a conversation I had with two NH Medlinks (i.e. my Desmond friend and his H4 friend) went like this:
H4 friend: Oh how do you know (NH4 girl 1) and (NH4 girl 2)? Do you dance? My friend: Does she dance? All she does is dance. H4 friend: Oh cool! Are you in ADT?
Which I found very fonny. No I am not. But alas, for the past two years till now, I have always been dancing, and I really really enjoy it, and I want to get better, and I think I do really love it!
But sometimes, it's hard to love it.
Today I want to talk about a big thing I see in dancers at MIT around me, which is that they have a very stressful relationship with dance. "I might quit all dance next semester," and "The MIT dance community is so toxic," and "I don't know if I want to do <xyz advanced team> next semester or just quit" are phrases I hear often from friends who always end up dancing anywhere from 3-9 hours a week.
They love it, but they hate it. The feelings are so extreme, I think, because dance is a social activity. You make friends, close friends, through dance troupe, ADT, or teams. But with dance, you're also auditioning, getting evaluated and cut, watching yourself side by side with others, being recorded, being talked about, and talking about others. It's a social activity.
And if you start thinking about how good your other peers are compared to you, the deep deep blackhole of dance-is-the-devil is slippery and treacherous. Despite them coming in with more experience, or putting in more hours than you at the expense of grades, sleep, or social life, or having been an athlete before, etc. All of my fellow friends who started dance in college, we've talked about this shared anxiety, but yet. We're all still dancing.
Dance. Dance. Four total semesters now. Why?
My favorite semester ever dance-wise was sophomore fall. Coming back from Korea, where I took a class a week at the famous 1Million and JustJerk dance studios, I was made pretty well aware that MIT was just a spec in the dance world. Thus, I was on my own journey to enjoy the art form and become professional grade good, whether or not MIT's competitive teams wanted me as a dancer did not matter. So, in September, I joined MissBehavior, did a DT dance, and took an MIT Theater dept. class in Hip Hop Dance History and Practice.
McKersin, the lecturer, taught us the history, shared the culture, opened my eyes to the Boston scene. He became the first person ever to tell me... "you need to practice" in an objective but well-meaning way. Previously, choreo workshops and Dance Troupe were fun and good to me, but in the vacuum of no-feedback-ever, I remained convinced that I was great at dancing, and thus was so confused all the time when I got rejected from competitive auditions. Now I was beginning to know.
I practiced freestyle dance and learned choreo from videos on my own, late into the night at BC dance studio. Recording myself, and gritting my teeth as I watched my own recordings. Yuck. Dumpster trash on fire, the stench coming from those videos.
But the way my dance progress became my own? So valuable to me. Thus, I improved.
I'm on a team now, and slightly deeper in the "dance as a social activity" thing both in MIT and the Boston community. Many times, I also struggle. I think I suck, look at that guy who probably only started this year he's so much cleaner than me. And that puts me in the worst bottom of the barrel mood for an entire day. Literally, makes me feel physical pain. But I never hate on dance. It's usually myself that I hate, which is not any better.
I write this on a special day: my first day ever being picked by a choreog in a workshop. You know? As the first subgroup to record? It means you're good. It was an affirmation that I'm doing okay, after a recent wave of self-hatred, actually. Even if I don't hate dance, I struggle a lot with comparing myself, and thinking I'm actually trash and not getting better, which is the root of my friends' problems too. I'm trynna overcome this and share a positive view of dance, like the energy of today's choreographer: it's fun to do and it's safe here.
This post is a reminder to future Lucy that actually, this journey has been one of great memories and progress. So, don't hate yourself, or the art. Be kind to yourself and others. Dance. Dance. Revolution.

The Secret Combo: How Historical Volatility and the Falling Wedge Predict Market Explosions When Low Volatility Gets Bored... Expect Fireworks Have you ever watched paint dry? That’s basically the forex market during low historical volatility. But here’s the plot twist: right before a chart gets bored out of its mind, it often sets the stage for an explosive move. Especially if that boredom takes the shape of a falling wedge pattern. That’s right. Historical volatility and falling wedges are like the introverts of the trading world—quiet, unassuming, but when they move... oh, they move. This article dives into a lesser-known but powerful strategy that combines historical volatility metrics with falling wedge setups to predict market breakouts. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill wedge breakdown. We’re going full ninja-mode here—tracking the subtle signs, the price compression, and the hidden volatility setups that most traders overlook. The Forgotten Volatility Metric That Whispers Before the Storm We all know about ATR, standard deviation, and even Bollinger Bands. But how many traders actively monitor historical volatility (HV) across multi-timeframes to anticipate a regime change? Historical volatility is a statistical measure of price dispersion over a specified period. But when it reaches historical lows? That’s when the alarm bells should start ringing. Here's the deal: - Low HV = Market Sleep Mode - HV + Compression Patterns (like the falling wedge) = Setup for Mean Reversion or Breakout According to research published by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), currencies with unusually low HV for extended periods are statistically more likely to experience sharp breakouts within the next 7 to 10 trading sessions (source). Pro Tip: Track the rolling 20-day historical volatility. When it drops below the 10th percentile of the past 2 years, start scanning for wedge patterns. Why Most Traders Get It Wrong (And How You Can Avoid It) Ah yes, the classic trader trap: spotting a falling wedge and instantly hitting "buy" because "wedge = bullish." Here’s the twist: not all wedges are created equal, and when historical volatility is high, wedges tend to be continuation patterns rather than reversal signals. To avoid this trap: - Overlay HV on your chart - Validate that HV is shrinking during the wedge formation - Look for volume divergence (declining volume as price contracts is gold) Think of it like buying winter boots in summer—great if you're preparing for the future, terrible if you're expecting snow tomorrow. Underground Pattern Recognition: Falling Wedges + Volatility Squeeze This is where the pros play. You combine three key elements: - Falling wedge structure (lower highs, lower lows, converging trendlines) - Historical volatility nearing all-time lows - Volume squeeze + false breakouts below support Here’s a 5-step ninja tactic: - Plot the falling wedge on your H4 or Daily chart - Overlay HV percentile ranks (check your platform plugins or use StarseedFX Smart Tool) - Confirm a drop in volume - Wait for a fakeout wick below the wedge - Enter on the bullish engulfing candle with a tight stop below the fakeout Bonus Tip: Use the 5-day HV for short-term trades and 20-day HV for swing setups. Real-World Proof: GBP/AUD and the September Explosion In September 2024, GBP/AUD gave us a masterclass. Historical volatility fell to 5.2% (its lowest in 14 months). Meanwhile, a textbook falling wedge formed on the daily chart. On September 11th, we saw a false breakdown below the wedge support—a long wick piercing the bottom before closing bullish. Within 3 days, the pair rallied over 270 pips. Moral of the story? When HV and structure align, you’re not just trading a pattern—you’re trading a pent-up market ready to roar. The Expert Playbook: What the Pros Are Saying Dr. Ernest P. Chan, algorithmic trading legend, said in a 2023 webinar: “Periods of low historical volatility are statistically predictive of increased returns, particularly when paired with compressive technical patterns.” (source) Meanwhile, Kathy Lien, managing director at BK Asset Management, noted, “When volatility gets quiet, patterns like falling wedges become more reliable because the market is hunting for direction." Pair that with proprietary tools from StarseedFX that track HV percentiles across timeframes, and you’ve got yourself a surgical strike setup. Why It Works (And Why You Shouldn’t Tell Too Many People) Markets behave like stressed-out cats—they hide in the corner when scared (low HV), but when they leap... it's sudden and aggressive. Falling wedges are visual footprints of this behavior. The lower highs signal dwindling seller aggression. The lower lows? Just the market teasing the support line. Add suppressed HV, and you’re looking at a coiled spring. The fewer traders know how to combine these two, the longer this strategy stays effective. So maybe keep this between us? Breakout Blueprint: How to Trade It Like a Shadow Pro Here’s your actionable game plan: - Scan for Falling Wedge Structures on Daily and H4 charts - Check HV: Use 5, 10, and 20-day historical volatility metrics - Validate Compression: Volume + price range narrowing - Watch for Fakeouts: Pin bar or wick below support - Entry: Bullish engulfing or inside bar breakout - Stop Loss: Just under the fakeout low - Target: Measured move = height of wedge added to breakout Use the StarseedFX Smart Tool to automate HV scans and wedge alerts: https://www.starseedfx.com/smart-trading-tool/ Hidden Gold: Why This Setup Outperforms in Uncertain Markets Let’s be honest. In 2025, fundamentals are a circus. Between inflation headlines, sudden rate shifts, and AI headlines predicting doomsday, technical clarity is rare. But falling wedges with historical volatility filters? That’s clarity in the chaos. And in case you need more firepower: - Get real-time macro data at Forex News Today - Build custom volatility-based strategies at Free Forex Courses - Never trade alone again—join the StarseedFX Community Final Takeaway: Let the Wedge Whisper Before the Bang If your chart is whispering through a falling wedge while volatility snoozes, listen carefully. It might just be prepping for a bang. The best traders don’t predict—they prepare. This strategy arms you with structure, timing, and precision. Most people wait for momentum. You? You’re already on the candle that lit the fuse. Summary of Elite Tactics: - Track 5-day and 20-day historical volatility for multi-timeframe context - Falling wedges during ultra-low HV offer explosive breakouts - Volume divergence and fakeouts are key entry filters - Use percentile-based HV filters, not just raw numbers - Don’t trade every wedge—focus on context and confluence —————– Image Credits: Cover image at the top is AI-generated Read the full article

How to Win a Chess Match in 2 Moves
You can believe that victory in chess is all about winning through wise strategies, complex moves, and careful planning. Sounds so boring, right? Chess is an interesting game to play, and in a few cases, it folds like a piece of paper is folded in half. You would be surprised to find out that winning is possible in a span of two moves only. Known as the "Fool's Mate", this serves as an example to tell players that every small move made has dire consequences and can change the tide and outcome of the game. You will find winning this way is a piece of cake if you're a beginner.
Before we jump to how checkmate is performed, let’s understand why planning and executing strategies is so important in chess. One of the important rules of chess is the idea of providing a check to the opponent's king and placing them in a situation where the targeted player is unable to remove the said king from risk. This gets the player winning the game. Even though a checkmate is bound to happen by the end, with proper execution and smart moves made, The Fool's Mate works off of how the losing player can set themselves up to be a sitting duck and sealed off by checkmate instantly.
Now, let's talk about the obvious name, The Fool's Mate. It works on the basis where a White is required who picks up the game and blunders right from the start.
This trap can be executed through a number of errors made on the fence, rather than needing some sheer, forceful offensive brilliance. This makes it, so to speak, quite impossible to witness in matches among skilled players. However, to those starting off, it is quite easy to get lured into the trap, but anyone remotely experienced with the fundamentals of the game will cringe from making the blunders necessary to fall into the trap.
We will analyze the initial concepts of Fool’s Mate. So we will take it step by step, visually picturing the scene on the chessboard. Think of a traditional chess set up with all the pieces ready for action.

The Fool's Mate Sequence
White's First Move
White proceeds by pushing the pawn positioned on f2 to f4. While there is nothing particularly wrong with this movement, it does set a chain reaction into motion that would lead to the ultimate demise of the player. Opening up the f file also weakens the diagonal associated with the King on the white side. There are many other openings that are more tactically sound; f2 to f4 would not be classified as idiotic, but is certainly questionable.
Black's First Move
Black plays the pawn on e7 to e6. This is quite a common start for most players, as it helps undermine the position of the opponents withan aggressivee opening. It does facilitate the pawn’s access while simultaneously shielding the Queen and King’s anticipation. Not particularly much to show for this movement, but it does help in setting the stage for attempting variation.
White's Second Move
This is where the mistake is huge. White moves his pawn from g2 to g4. This combination, in tandem with the pawn advance made previously, creates a hole on the g4 and f2 square dangerously close to white’s king. The g2 pawn does not protect the king anymore, and the f2 pawn has moved forward, creating a huge gap.
Black's Second Move
Black's Queen, previously positioned on d8, now moves to h4. This move delivers checkmate. The White King is directly attacked by the Black Queen (in check), and there are no legal moves to alleviate this threat. The king cannot move to a safe square, no piece can block the queen's attack, and the queen cannot be captured.
Why It Works and Why It is Rare
This checkmate works because of the moves made by white. The g2 f2 diagonal is supposed to guard against any attacks on the king, but now it is completely exposed. The White’s king is at greater risk compared to Black’s. Without the g4 pawn move, the queen would not have the chance to go to h4, which is the crux of the failure.
The Fool’s Mate is a rare scenario. This is so because it requires a predetermined series of poorly made moves by White. Inexperienced players make the mistake of ignoring their King’s safety and key diagonals. A seasoned player would never place their king in such an exposed position. This example stands out as one of the worst strategies in the first phase of the game.
Chess is a game that demands a lot of analytical thinking. It entails both deliberate tactics and risk evaluation. One must also exercise caution when guarding their king in order to secure an opponent's chess pieces or strike a powerful blow. The Fool's Mate is a great illustration of what occurs when this rule is broken.
Beyond the Fool's Mate: Learning and Improving
Although the two-move checkmate is executed in a convoluted way, I must say, it is not a very effective method of winning over your opponents. Mastering chess goes beyond this. It requires you to understand very deep concepts like controlling the center of the chessboard, efficiently developing your pieces, and coordinating your pieces for both offensive and defensive actions.
Try to master sounding opening strategies and avoidance of rote learning move sequences by knowing the reasoning behind why certain moves are made. So do make it a point to regularly exercise, evaluate the games you play, and take notes on your faults. When playing a tactical game of chess, replicating Fool’s Mate might not be suitable, but having the ability to shift perspective is a fundamental understanding of basic tactics.
Every chess player should always improve chess playing skills. Learning how to play good chess requires practice. Before trying to master more advanced elements of the chess game, one must master the easier concepts first. Remember, the Fool's Mate might be a stunning highlight to a novice player. However, it is still a much deeper game that has allowed players to succeed and enjoy for centuries. The game of chess is full of amazing strategies. There are numerous amazing actions that will demand you to continually think above your competitor. So, take your chess pieces, position them on the chess board, and start working toward your goal of mastering chess.

Wall Street Plunge Continues, NFP Countdown
US stocks dropped on Thursday amid ongoing concerns about the impact of President Donald Trump’s trade policy on the economy, one day ahead of the release of key employment data.
Investors shunned equities on caution over wild policy swings from the US administration on recently imposed tariffs. President Trump announced on Thursday that all goods and services from Mexico and Canada that comply with the 2020 United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) would now be granted a one-month delay on the recent 25% import duties.

Ahead of Friday’s February non-farm payrolls report, data released on Thursday showed an easing in labor market pressures. US weekly jobless claims dropped by 21,000 to a seasonally adjusted 221,000 in the week ended March 1.
The latest monthly jobs report will give a measure of the health of the US economy and clues to the Federal Reserve’s path for future interest rate cuts amid fears Trump’s tariffs will stoke inflationary pressures in the coming months.
In a speech on Thursday, Philadelphia Federal Reserve President Patrick Harker said that while the US economy is currently in good shape, trouble may be brewing amid signs of stress in the consumer sector and risks to the inflation outlook.
At the stock market close in New York, the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrials Average was down 1.0% at 42,579, and the broader S&P 500 index shed 1.8% to 5,738.
NAS100Roll H1
Meanwhile, the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite entered correction territory after dropping 2.6% to 18,069, marking a decline of more than 10% from recent peaks.
Among tech issues, Marvell Technology dropped 19.8% after the chipmaker’s quarterly results failed to excite investors hoping for strong artificial intelligence-driven growth.
Other semiconductor makers were also lower, with Broadcom losing 6.3% and Nvidia shed 6.7%.
Elsewhere, Tesla fell 5.6% with brokerage Baird naming the electric carmaker as a bearish pick.
Retailers were also in the spotlight. Grocery chain Kroger rose 2.0% after forecasting annual same-store sales largely above estimates.
Burlington Stores soared 8.7% after the cut-price department store reported better-than-anticipated fourth-quarter income, helping to offset concerns over an uncertain outlook for 2025.
And Wendy’s added 1.4% after the restaurant chain reaffirmed its full-year adjusted earnings per share forecast and introduced long-term financial targets along with growth projections for 2028.
But Macy’s fell 0.7% after the department-store chain forecast annual sales and profit below expectations, worried that shoppers were holding off buying apparel and accessories in the face of economic uncertainty.
Among commodities, oil edged higher after recent falls as President Trump paused the imposition of some tariffs on Mexico and Canada, though recent plans by OPEC+ to raise crude output limited the recovery.
USOILRoll Daily
US West Texas Intermediate crude added 0.03% at $66.33, while UK Brent crude gained 0.3% at $69.49 a barrel, recovering after hitting its weakest level since December 2021 on Wednesday.

When they found a better planet, only the gentle survived"
— I Hate It Here, Taylor Swift
January 23, 2039 Winter
Dear diary,
Today was strange. I came home from the get-together and ate the whole rest of the cake I made. My head hurts and I feel like my fingers smell like Ellie. I can still feel her phantom touch in my face whenever I close my eyes for too long.
Mom’s drunk, she's already completely asleep in her bedroom. I locked myself up in mine, I’m afraid she’ll smell the weed. I feel bad, guilty. I can’t sleep. I am a terrible daughter and I deserve nothing she’s ever fought to give me. I am a disappointment and I promise I won’t do anything like this ever ag-

I heard a noise on my window, I first thought it was maybe a bird. One more time, I heard something hitting the frame. I got up to check and got scared by the pebble that almost hit my face.
“Oh fuck, I’m sorry!” Ellie looked worried and embarrassed. I simply laughed.
“What are you doing here? It’s, like, four a.m”, I sat on the frame. “You should be in bed.”
“I couldn’t sleep.” She swallowed, nervously. “ Y’wanna go for a walk?” I unknowingly held my breath and bit my bottom lip to the blood. If Mama wakes up and doesn’t see me in bed she would be so worried, but at the same time, I couldn’t pretend like living under her subtle rules wasn’t killing me slowly.
“Help me get out.” I said and Ellie smirked, giving me her hand. I jumped off the frame and tripped a little. “Where are you taking me?” I started following her down to the trees.
“Just follow, I promise you’ll like it.” She smiled and so did I. Just then I realized she hasn’t let go of my hand since I jumped out of the window. In fact, she squeezed it from time to time.
I went with her up to a small clearing across the creek, we had hung out around there before. The difference is that now there was a blanket on the floor with what seemed to be a telescope on top.
“What is this?” I sat, smiling. “Where’d you get this thing?”
“Oh, this old thing? Joel found it and gave it to me when I was, like, fifteen.” She sat down by my side. “I just remembered it, y’know, when you started tracing the stars on my back and shit…”
I felt my cheeks getting completely flustered, so I hid my face between my hands. “I am so sorry about that, it was embarrassing as hell.” I sighed and chuckled, throwing my head back.
“It’s not embarrassing, you were just high”, Ellie laughed. “T’was sweet.” Her cheeks started becoming rosy too. I laid back on the blanket. “Hey, c’mere. Let’s check this thing out.” I scooted closer to her, looking into the telescope and then giving her some space to look too, her shoulder brushing against mine. “Damn, the sky’s always so pretty in Wyoming. It was always smokey back in Boston.” She said, looking amazed.
“You’re from Boston? “ I asked.
“Born and raised.” She replied. “You?”
“Nebraska. Never traveled that far.” I chuckled. “Have you ever seen the ocean? “
“ Yeah, sure! Wait… Haven’t you?” I shook my head, she looked surprised.
“Yeah…” I laughed. “Nebraska isn’t really beachy, y’know?”
She laughed, elbowing me softly. “Well, then we gotta take you somewhere that is! Where’d you like to go, miss?”
I smiled. It was fun pretending like we weren’t trapped here forever sometimes. “Well, I think California must be nice, you know? Maybe Florida. Just don’t think we could get there by horse.”
She laid back on the blanket, arms above her head, and sighed. “Man, I wish it was easier to find a car that actually works. I could drive ya there, you’d see the beach.”
I watched as she laid there, the skin under her slightly open flannel chilled by the breeze. I wondered if her chest was freckled too, where did her spots end? I didn’t even realize I was staring, when something slipped my mouth. “Well, actually-” I stopped myself, but it was kinda late, she seemed interested and I couldn’t leave those forest eyes guessing. “My mom, she keeps a car battery hidden. But it’s for desperate situations, a safe way out. But don’t tell anyone I said that!”
Ellie’s hand reached for my nose, booping me like a cat. “Relax, spacegirl. Your secret’s safe with me.” She laughed and I laid on the blanket too.
The sky was a deep blue, the stars like snowflakes. I thought I saw a beam of light or something, maybe thunder, but soon I realized: it was a shooting star. “Ellie, quick, make a wish!” I closed my eyes. “Aw shit, okay.” She closed hers too, smiling.
“I wished for my mom to find me new records.” I smiled, “what did you wish for, Els?”
She blushed in the slightest, looking away. “Oh, yeah, I forgot to make one.”
“You’re just lying now.” I laughed. “Come on, you can tell. What would you like right now? A car? A camera? A puppy?”
I felt her eyes analyzing every single inch of my face and her lips parting, almost involuntarily. “I wish you liked girls.” I felt my heart dropping to my feet, my throat went dry, I stayed silent. She sat up immediately, I did the same. She started putting the telescope away, getting ready to leave.
“Wait, Ellie, don’t-” I touched her shoulder. “I… don’t like boys, I- Girls… I’ve never tried.”
I could see her face light back up but she was trying to keep it nonchalant. “Do… you want to?” I swallowed and breathed in deeply as I simply nodded in response. Her face went straight up red, it looked like fire. I think I may have caught her by surprise.
The girl took her left hand towards my face, tucking away a strand of hair behind my ear. I was almost panting as she got closer to me, our noses touching. My eyes went to her lips, chapped but pink, burnt from the cold. She exhaled into mine as she finally locked them in, her hand now on the side of my neck. Almost as if programmed to, I opened them up for her.
Her mouth was heavenly, her tongue felt like a warm treat. So I kissed her, I kissed like I longed for it for ages, I kissed her like a movie, I kissed her like everyone could watch. I took my hand to her neck, hers climbed its way up to my hair, holding onto it like I’d run away. But I would never, I wish we would stay like this until the end of times.
Quickly, the simple kiss had turned hungry. I felt like she was going to eat me whole, devour me like a beast and, truthfully, I didn’t even mind, I waited for it, too. I wished for her body so bad that I wouldn’t even mind becoming part of it. It felt like an out-of-body experience how she held me like I was always hers.
Until I heard a voice coming from beyond the creek. “Els, sorry for interrupting but she should come with me. Quick.” It was Dina, she seemed worried. I followed her, she told Ellie to not come along.
When we went back to town near my house, I could hear my mom talking to Mike. “Just- gone! I just woke up and she wasn’t there.” Dina stepped closer, “found her!” She smiled, not really knowing what to say.
Mama took into a tight hug. “Oh my God, you scared me so much!” I could smell the worry in her, or maybe it was just the alcohol. Didn’t take long for her to switch and slightly shake me. “Where the hell were you!?” I froze.
“I- I was just stargazing, with Dina, you were asleep-” I didn’t have a clue what to say, I am a terrible liar. Always been.
“Don’t you lie to me! Where were you?!” Her voice became angrier. “You were with that girl again, weren’t you? Joel 's girl? I told you to stay away from her!”
“No, mom, I wasn’t with Ellie, I swear. My lip was trembling. “I just went for a walk! I thought you were asleep…”
“Go home. Right now. Go.” She looked so disappointed. My eyes filled with water, I had never seen her like that. Mike tried waving goodbye to me but I was so distraught that I didn’t even pay attention. I just went straight back home and cried in my room for the rest of the night, sitting on the windowsill. I felt unworthy.

There is no operation name.
Decoding messages
Difficult to sleep, the screen is an enemy, not that it is a requirement for me. More symbolic than anything, the operation system works better after being rebooted and at night is usually the best time for it, but I cannot stop it anymore. Programs blocking reboot, trying to close them down sends errors across my console and glitches across my HUD. All fixes end up being temporary, how long can I go like this?
Late evening, have not been at this section of the city yet, every street looks unfamiliar and everyone look leaves my systems burning up. Welcoming warmth for sure, the temperatures have reached well below freezing after the sunset, signs of a coming winter. Not a lot of traffic, the buildings here mostly formed from brick and wood, materials natural to Novis, cheap but time takes its toll on them. The colony serves as a home to about 3.6 million people at this time; the number does not include androids or clones, nor other humanoid species but it merely a remnant of what it used to be...
Highest amount settled around 12.6 million from reports, cities change and adapt to their needs... Nevertheless, that is enough about that for now. Job to do, the image coordinates pointed to this building nearby, the front looking as innocent as any small business, a greenish copper sign mounted to the window with fading orange neon lighting spelling out the name of the store.
The Boiler room, a business aimed at salvaging consumer tech to be recycled or sold forward to those who need it, a few robotic arms sitting quietly over a workstation, it is hard to see anything further past the smudged glass and fog floating between the shelves.
Something hiding beneath the humble exterior, I lowered the binoculars and placed them back inside my backpack. Low impact operation, light armor underneath my jacket and a pair of spare magazines on my belt, keeping to it, small caliber PDW, folding stock and the magazine nestled neatly in the grip, mirroring the layout of the weapon I carried when I was still on earth... Old habits die hard, the modernized model with an integral silencer, caseless ammunition and internals optimized for current generation tactical gear.
Gloves feeding data to the HUD, magazine capacity and sights, secured to my belt and underneath my jacket, plan B in case things go south inside. Plan A, get in and burn the data on the servers, a H4 charge and a Demon on a flash drive should do the job; I pulled the bag onto my shoulder and climbed down from the roof, placing my hands firmly into my pockets as I walked across the road.
Dim streetlights casting shadows everywhere, one moment you can walk on the street, the second, out of sight and out of mind. Alleys common, I located one that passed the target building, walking down it for a moment as I allowed my sensor suite to scan anything I could, deflected from the walls back to me without getting anywhere, an external layer of jammers preventing anyone curious from seeing inside, other than walking in themselves. No doubt, the front door is under surveillance 24/7 and just me walking by here, they will be trying to find me anywhere they can, or perhaps I am merely paranoid...
Lone security camera overlooking the back entrance and security company stickers plastered along the window, beware the dog, a pair of garage doors taking up a large section of the building, a few small cranes sitting near them, my sensors painted out a network of devices hidden beneath the loose surface, steadily pulsing against the chain-link fence.
Climbing the fence could work, but with the yard being that heavily monitored, they would probably have an armed response here within minutes. Roof it is, I located a dumpster sitting by the wall, climbing up it and onto the roof, quietly vaulting over the edge and landing on the roof itself.
Covered in ventilation equipment and an access door, I took a moment to recalibrate my systems before heading to the access door, my boots softly mixing against the sounds of the ventilation equipment and cars somewhere in the distance. Stronger on my own, likely but right now, exactly what is needed. Valkyrie is on stand-by for extraction once I have secured the android frame; it will not walk itself out of there, I lifted the scarf over my face and tried the door.
Locked, after a few good clicks, locked no more. Heavy on the hinges, the door opened to a small landing and leading to stairs deeper into the building, I shifted my optics to low light and allowed my sensors to adjust to the dark, quietly closing the door behind me. Scanning for signals, silent alarm triggered by the rooftop door, someone will have heard it, I scrambled the rest of the signal, they might think of it as a malfunction, here’s hoping.
Down to the ground floor, I looked through the back offices and lockers rooms, no servers nor android frame; I ended up in the garage near the back of the building. Empty as the rest of the place, a few workstations, a vehicle lift and a fuse box on the wall. Multiple toolboxes against the wall, the air heavy with coolant and diesel fumes, my scanners picked up a reinforced section of the floor beneath one of the toolboxes. Moving the chest to the side, a hatch embedded into the floor with faded markings, I pulled the handle up and heard the hydraulics lift the hatch from the floor, revealing a set of stairs. Dust scattered down them, the middle relatively clear, I moved the tool chest to the other side of the garage, jamming it against the door handle before heading down the stairs, closing the hatch behind me.
They will not believe me I happened to stumble down here by accident; I pulled the PDW from my belt and kept my scanners active as I reached the end of the stairs. Faced with a corridor, stark white walls and the low humming of the AC around me, my boots softly clanking on the catwalk like floor as I made my way further into the belly of the beast. Corridor was lined with several large windows and doors to access the rooms behind them, many of them seemed like they were used for storage, although my scans showed a large number of items marked as “missing” on official documents. Weapon crates, ammunition, launchers... shame I cannot take them with me.
The walls shifting from concrete to brick and mortar, this place must be older than it seems. Walk with confidence, the power signature kept getting larger as I reached another window overlooking what looked like a room full of servers. That is drawing a lot of power all right, now how do I get in there...
There is someone walking this way with their eyes on their datapad, my plan started coming together as I got to the side of the door, keeping myself stuck to the wall as the door slid open and the man stepped into the corridor, heading back towards the stairs. Got my way in, I took a knee and looked down at the servers; my sensors drawing data across my HUD before I spotted what looked like a control post in the far end of the room.
Bright lights above computers and in the middle, something that I cannot make out from here. Quietly across the catwalk and into a better spot, my optics quickly recognized the android frame sitting in the middle of the computers, cables running from it into the servers and terminals around the chassis as a pair of men worked on it and one looked like he overseeing them. Tuning out the humming of the fans, I could just about hear them.
“I was told it would be easy to break into the OS, we’re burning money every moment this thing is stuck down here.” The man dressed in a suit stated, annoyance heavy in his voice as he spoke to the researchers.
“We... we are through to the OS, Mr. Saint, sir... It is however refusing our attempts to operate the systems remotely.” Shiro "Saint" Tanaka, files on him frequent a mention of black market operations, the image matches what I am seeing, member of the Ashen Veil criminal group, their signatures included illicit data hosting and storage, encryption attacks and black market transfers between other groups. Hands in many pockets, I would not be surprised some of the tech we have bought had passed through their hands at some point.
“What he is saying is that we can give it commands but the motors can’t hold it standing by themselves.”
“What do you mean, can it walk or not?”
“Yes, but usually these things run with two operating systems in parallel to assist in operations, it can process input and act accordingly soon after, this thing came in without that second OS.”
“Let me guess, you can’t just bypass that requirement?”
“No, we would need a fresh software install.”
“Of course... and those are unicorns on the market right now...” Saint said, turning away from the android, tapping his leather shoe against the floor with his arms crossed, annoyance dripping from his voice. “Keep trying, I’ll try to get some contacts to look for the right OS. I need to head out, report any progress.”
“Yes sir.”
“This bucket of bolts better be worth the money...” He stated quietly, adjusting his suit jacket and heading up to the catwalk. Relocated to the lower floor myself, I watched as he headed to the door and out of the room. Should make things easier, I lowered the bag from my shoulder and connected the demon to the servers. Small screen on the side signaling the status, a black widow making its web between the server drives, wiping them all empty at once when it had contaminated everything on the network. Scorch the earth, salt to confirm nothing comes back; it makes a copy of itself on the drive infecting the whole system again if any old drive is used or missed.
Time to rebuild ranging from days to weeks, having to find new hardware and not even taking in the account of the exabytes of data being stored on there, digital bonfire just waiting for a spark, I retrieved the drive from the server and snapped it in half. The thing had been attempting to infect my own systems ever since I laid my hands on it, the quiet on my console signals it is no longer active on the snapped drive.
Now then, those two will likely try to stop me from taking the android body. As I braced the weapon against my arm, red lights lit up the server room as an alarm started blaring.
“What?”
“Great... I already had a headache...”
“Probably just a drill, it should be over soon... I hope...”
The door above slid open as a pair of armored guards walked in to the room, armed with assault rifles. Kits likely scavenged uniform with radios and magazine pouches for weapons neither of them were carrying, amateurs attempting to look tough, I kept my weapon braced with the sights lined up as the pair reached the bottom of the stairs.
“Let’s go, we got an intruder.” The lankier guard said, signaling for the two to follow him.
“What? Saint said...”
“Saints orders, he wants everyone in the security center so he can run the scan and see where our intruder is hiding.” The larger guard said, his voice hiding a hint of static, likely from augments or prosthetics.
“Alright, let me just lock up...”
“Make it snappy, he was not exactly happy to be doing this... All done?”
“Yes, let’s get going.”
One guard leading with the two scientists following behind him and the large slab of muscle securing the rear, so they don’t know about me, but they do know someone has pierced their veil, scanning for electronics is pointless in a place full of them, it is like I was never here.
“Valkyrie, ETA on pick-up?”
“Ten minutes from request, are you compromised?”
“No, but I might be soon enough.”
“Roger, I’ll be there.”
“I know you will, out.”
Under the red emergency lights, I walked up to the chassis and looked it over. Fresh from the factory with an operating system set to monitor internals and providing something to install the main OS onto, without it, it is practically an intricate paperweight. Without armor, the chassis alone weighs around 200kg but with the frame, the weight is closer to 500kg, it is within my system limits but if I encounter anyone on the way, I will be an easy target.
Seek an alternative, not going back out the same way as I got here, under the spinning emergency lights, I spotted a rolling garage door, hidden in the dark before. Button panel on the wall, the door rattled up, revealing a long corridor along with a small robotic forklift. Battery at 43%, ready for orders, I connected my systems with the robot and looked around inside, disable the authority request and enable remote controls... there...
Soft beep under the alarms, the little headlights lit up and the fork raised from the ground, pulling up to the android chassis, exactly as requested. Out of nowhere, the alarms went silent as the emergency lights flicked off, the humming of the AC growing louder around me with the standard lighting coming back online, situation normal but the clocks ticking, I unplugged the cables connected to the chassis and guided the forklift beneath it, securing it to the fork frame. Back into the corridor, the walls coated in concrete pieces, the robots motors echoed against the rounded edges as I could hear sounds behind me. Closed the garage door, would not hold them back for long, I gave the robot the order to move faster, not that it would outrun anyone. Need a plan; they would know these tunnels like the backs of their hands, I am outnumbered as well, just like old times...
The tunnel is quite dark, very little lighting overall; shadows can hide many things, including me... Map on the forklift robot is unreadable by my systems but it would know where the exit is, stick to it, I pulled my scarf up and disabled the robots headlights, plunging the entire tunnel in darkness.
Adrenaline mixing in to the coolant, the sensory overload taking hold as I withdrew the knife from my belt, the hunter protocols slowly coming online after hibernating, the light in my eye flickered on to a deep red as I listened for the footsteps closing in, flashlights carving their way through the black.
Four guards, no sign of Saint, I unfolded the stock and foregrip on my PDW, bracing it against my shoulder as pair of guards closed in. Their rifles heavy with lights and lasers mounted to the front, they shouted their all clears as I remained out of sight. Armored vests but lesser headwear, I stepped out behind the pair, landing a burst on the upper neck of the first guard. Second guard turning around but not fast enough, I drove the knife into his jaw, landing one bullet into his forehead. Shouting, enough for them to draw attention, I allowed my scanners to bounce off the walls and locate the next pair.
Radio chatter from dead, asking for a status update, the signals traced as I found the other pair holding position near the forklift.
“Found the android.”
“Good and the intruder?”
“No sign of them yet, team 2 is not responding.”
“Dammit, keep the frame secure. I’ll try to get some backup...”
Systems still connected to the forklift, I gave it a command to move forward as I rounded the corner. Enough to catch their attention, the first guard fell to a shot at his upper chest, as the second guard turned his rifle to me. Burst striking the wall behind me as I took cover.
“Shit, Crash is down, the [Redacted] is here, send anyone!”
“Negative, hold your ground.”
“I am not just going to die alone out here...!”
Hands shaking, adrenaline beyond limits, the man stood himself up and walked closer as I ducked down and leaned around the corner, landing a few shots on his legs. Less armored, the man let out a pained yelp as I stood myself up and landed one more shot into his head.
“Max, come in... Dammit... if you are listening, intruder, whoever you are... we will find you. Mark my words...”
Progress bar on my HUD, nearing 100 as the virus made its way through the systems, only a matter of seconds now, I watched the confirmation message disappear, as the airwaves were flooded with chaos, I took control of the forklift again and followed it to the exit.
Opening up to a storm drain running through the city, a small dock was set up at the exit of the smaller tunnel, a lone dinghy moored to the side of it; I guided the forklift over to it and lowered the android frame to the front. Controls, no key, a few wires connected activated the ignition and the engine picked up revs as I released the ropes from the dock, pushing the boat away. Preparing for a speedy pick up, I folded up my PDW and secured it beneath my jacket again before reaching for my radio.
“Valkyrie.”
“On station and ready for pick up.”
“Sending you coordinates, heading there using enemy equipment, drop the rope.”
“Roger, ETA: 2 minutes.”
The drain leads to the lake on the edge of the city, far enough and the coastal security would be on us, I kept my eyes on the river behind me until I could see the gunship flying in behind me. Howl of the engines as the wind washed over me.
“Eyes on, dropping hook.” Overhead like a guardian angel, I transmitted her my current speed as the cable descended from the winch, swinging around wildly before, I clamped my hand on it. Boots barely touching the floor of the boat, I transmitted my speed to Valkyrie and allowed the cable to gain some slack as I hooked it onto the marked lift mount on the android chassis, attaching myself by the belt afterwards. Signal to her, I could just about hear her through the wind and engines.
“Secure? Good, hold on.”
Wind dragging on my coat as my weight shifted to the cable, slowly I allowed the throttle lever to return to zero as I wrapped my hand around the cable, being dragged up with the android chassis in tow. Through my jacket and my systems, I savored the feeling, knowing you are almost home...
Turning my attention to the boat, I spotted a few spotlights too far to catch up, likely patrol boats. Hard to not smile after that kind of performance, the ramp of the gunship lowered as we neared the top, the sound of the gunship engines deafening as I got myself onboard with the android chassis.
“Cargo secured, I trust that is mission accomplished?”
“Accomplished, the bonfire is burning bright with all the files they had...”
“Good work, plotting course for home, got a few waypoints to throw anyone following us off.”
“All yours, I need to breathe.”
“Take as long as you need, that thing is going to need your full attention once we get home.”
Taking a seat opposite the chassis, I stared into the deep black lenses and felt them looking back at me, how long before I look through them at my old self?
Need to iron out the bugs and glitches still haunting this old OS, but as the myth goes, Phoenix dies only to be reborn from ashes, I leaned back and allowed my eyes to close for a moment.
Rest easy, your body might be tired but the mind still yearns to breathe.

Customized Taj Mahal Tour Provided By Customized Taj Mahal Tour Firm
One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal is a magnificent example of Mughal architecture that welcomes millions of tourists every year. A personalized tour is a unique way to experience the Taj Mahal, even though you may visit this famous landmark on your own. We'll go over the advantages of scheduling a private Taj Mahal tour with a specialized tour operator in this post, along with how it can improve your vacation and make the most of your time there.
H1: Why Pick a Customized Tour of the Taj Mahal? You want your visit to the Taj Mahal, a historically significant site, to be seamless and unforgettable.
