JAY B Interview [HYPEBEAST]
From GOT7 to H1GHR MUSICās JAY B
On the 11th of May, it was announced that GOT7ās leader JAY B had joined H1GHR MUSIC. Ever since his time in JYPE, Jay B has been taking on the responsibility of writing lyrics and composing songs for albums, even participating as a producer. On Soundcloud, he has released 5 mixtapes under the name Def., showing his ambition as a solo musician in various instances. Thatās why the fact that he did not join a KPOP entertainment company but instead joined H1GHR MUSIC is not a particularly surprising thing. However, itās no lie that this will bring a huge change to his career as an artist. <HYPEBEAST> met with JAY B and had a talk about the reason he decided to move (to H1GHR MUSIC), his new single āSwitch It Upā, his future activities as well as his ambition.
HYPEBEAST: Youāre known for being on āteam mint chocolateā. You even left comments about it on <HYPEBEAST>ās instagram page.
JAY B: I like the way the flavour is pungent yet wrapped up in chocolate. I donāt really like plain chocolate. I like it when something is added to it, such as chocolate milk or white chocolate, but when I had mint chocolate for the first time, it was really revolutionary. After that, Iāve been enjoying eating it.
HB: Itās still something that sparks a lot of debate. There are also a lot of products released aimed to spark controversy.
JAY B: Thereās something I always say. If I am eating it well and I like it, I just hope that you wonāt say things like āwhy would you eat that?ā to me. If youāre enjoying your food and then someone next to you says that sort of thing, youād lose your appetite, right? Just donāt say that kind of thing to someone whoās eating. Letās love one another!
HB: Your group, GOT7, left JYP Entertainment after 7 years. How did you feel promoting without a company for the past few months?
JAY B: I feel the same now. Itās more fun. Personally, one of the reasons why I decided to leave JYP was because I wanted to take on more challenges. Maybe itās because of that but the time I spent as a kind of freelancer felt really new. Even though I wonāt be able to know everything about what kind of system Iāll be working in, I got to learn about it roughly and gained a more serious attitude regarding work. I also felt a sense of pride and that it was precious.
HB: Out of the āchallengesā you mentioned, your photo exhibition was one of them, right? We heard that you like taking pictures.
JAY B: Even this morning, I saw a pigeon spread only one side of its wings. Iāve never seen that before, so I wanted to take a picture of it, but in a short moment it sensed that I was there and flew away. Iām the kind of person who takes a lot of pictures of those little moments. In that way, I got to hold a photo exhibition too. Honestly, I was embarrassed to do the exhibition. I was just going to try to do it personally as a small thing with the pictures I took myself, but JYPE said āletās do it even betterā, and as we exchanged ideas, the scale got a bit larger.
HB: Is there a particular theme that you like when taking pictures?
JAY B: Iām the kind of person who comes up with (themes) as I take the pictures. As I am taking pictures of something, thoughts like āah, it would be fun to hold exhibitions with this kind of picturesā come to mind. For my first exhibition, I took pictures revolving around the theme of ālonelinessā, āliving aloneā, and āeven if you are living alone, you need someone by your sideā. It was mainly involving people/figures, but I actually prefer taking pictures of landscapes or larger compositions.
HB: In the past, youāve said āI think my next album will be a product that includes the loneliness felt in lifeā. Is it related to your first photo exhibition <ALONE>?
JAY B: Thereās no relation between the two. I wanted to work out all the feelings I had after being under a lot of pressure as I lived my life. Putting aside whether the album is good or not, I think it will be an album where I honestly share what I felt when I felt pressured. I donāt know whether or not it will be released, and if it does, I donāt know in what form it will be released in, but for now Iāve just made the album with this theme. It might sound boring, but it contains a lot of my honest thoughts.
HB: We donāt know when or how, but it will probably be released through H1GHR MUSIC now right? After your contract ended with JYP, you probably received offers from various places, why did you choose H1GHR MUSIC?
JAY B: Iām well aware of the fact that I was protected by the fence called JYP. But as I mentioned previously, I left JYP because I wanted to try and experience something on my own. I also had doubts regarding whether I was an artist who could bring in as much profit as the company wanted. I think that changing my image in order to earn a profit is something that Iāve done a lot in the past. After leaving the company, I received offers from multiple places, and some were really good companies too. However, the most important thing was that it had to be a company that I could exchange opinions and create with. I think H1GHR MUSIC matched up with that the best.
HB: As the field of your promotions change, it will probably come with some concerns as well.
JAY B: Iām the kind of person who worries a lot and is cautious. My own concerns aside, I was really worried about whether H1GHR MUSICās image would be damaged because I joined. I thought people might say that an idol joining would muddy the waters* (*ruin the labelās image). No matter if thereās a good or bad reaction, H1GHR MUSIC has already accomplished things, and I would be a new addition. On top of that, Iām not someone who is just starting to make music. Iām making a new image based on the one I already had. Even so, just this once, I wanted to make a decision that was for myself. Thatās why I was even more cautious with each and every step.
HB: Is the title of your new single ļæ½ļæ½Switch It Upā referring to the changes you are going through?
JAY B: When I came up with the title, I did think that it was possible to give it that sort of meaning. I wanted to express a basic love story while also including the meaning of switching up my life. However, Jay Park hyung gave me some advice, saying that rather than doing that, it might be better for me to naturally blend in what Iāve already been doing. Following that advice, even though the title itself carries the meaning of change, the lyrics are just about love.
HB: How was your first production at H1GHR MUSIC?
JAY B: I had a lot of concerns and was worried. After I made the decision to join H1GHR MUSIC, I told Jay hyung that I wanted to release a song or an album quickly. It just so happened Cha Cha Malone was back in Korea, so we aligned our schedules and produced songs together. Everything happened naturally. Jay hyung said that I shouldnāt go all out from the beginning, and that itās more important to keep going steadily. I agree with that. Iām satisfied with the result too. I worry a lot so Iām the type to ask around for opinions, but everyone said it was good. But honestly, Iām not sure how the public will react to it. (laughs)
HB: Sokodomoās feature was really impressive, how did he end up participating in the song?
JAY B: The funny thing is, it really came about naturally too. When I went to the studio, sokodomo was there and he asked if he could stay while we were working on our songs, so we said it was okay. As we worked on songs like that, after I finished up my recording, sokodomo suddenly went into the recording studio. I was wondering āwhatās going on?ā, but what sokodomo showed us was really good. Turns out, while I was recording, he came up with some ideas and asked if it was okay if he tried it out which I didnāt hear. But what sokodomo came up with was a style that I couldnāt express well. And so right there and then, I cautiously asked if he would be willing to feature in the song, and he agreed without hesitation. That part was so good that I even thought āI canāt be eaten by (overshadowed) sokodomoā. Haha.
HB: In the past, you were a B-boy, and even in GOT7 you received a lot of attention for your dancing. So we were wondering if we would get to see you dance to āSwitch It Upā.
JAY B: Youāll be able to see it through the live clip that will be released at the same time as the single. There are various elements in the live clip. First of all, I tried really hard to make it look cool. I sang live with sokodomo too. I think thereās a lot to see. The dance comes on at the very end. I thought that since Iām a performer, I should dance too. Honestly, at first when I listened to āSwitch It Upā, I thought it would be kind of hard to dance to it. But even so, I have to dance. Other artists are cool too, but I think Chris Brown is really cool. He dances and sings at the same time really well. Because dance was my beginning, and I gained interest in singing later on and ended up working hard at it, I canāt let go of dance.
HB: Do you have any plans or ideas for the next album youāll release through H1GHR MUSIC?
JAY B: I think that I have to move quickly. Iāll have to wait and see what Iāll end up with, but for now, I think itās closer to a chill vibe. āSwitch It Upā was chill, but it still had a kind of energy to it. Rather than that, I think it will probably be the kind of music that is suitable to listen to while going for a drive. I want to show music thatās groovier and more sensual as much as possible. But I still donāt know. Itās possible that the company might say āletās go for pop.ā I want to create things together with the company, so Iām open to accommodating their opinions for a couple songs.
HB: Youāre also promoting with the name Def. and not Jay B. Why did you come up with the name Def.?
JAY B: Actually, even in the early days of GOT7, I didnāt feel any attachment to the name JB. I felt really strongly that it was a name that someone else came up with. Iām more comfortable with people calling me by my birth name, Jaebeom, too. Of course, I like it now. I wanted to separate Jay B and Def., thatās why they are separated. When I was in JYP, I got permission to release my music on Soundcloud, but I couldnāt release albums separately. So I released all the music that I couldnāt release as JB through Def. For now, I decided I would make music that people could approach more comfortably under the name Jay B, and I would release things that are more to what I want to do through Def. Iām not sure how it will end up in the future though.
HB: Listening to the music under these two names, there is quite a difference. The music you release under the name Def. has more characteristics of the neo soul genre.
JAY B: When I made <1/? Vol. 1>, I liked trap soul, so it contains a lot of that kind of music. After that as well, it mostly is filled with songs that were the style that I liked at the time. If you listen to my mixtape, excluding the intro and outro, there are about 5 songs. While I prepared those songs, I also worked on 15 songs that would be for GOT7 albums at the same time, making about 20 songs at a time. Iād work on GOT7 songs from morning till late night and if I had time, I would then work on my mixtape. Thatās why they are songs that I really cherish. People might wonder why I would work so hard, but I thought that as an idol, I have to do my job well so that I can gain autonomy within the company. Thatās why I worked hard and pushed myself to my limits.
HB: When will we be able to hear your music as Def.?
JAY B: Firstly, I want to get my name as Jay B out there, and later on I want to use the name Def. again when I can do what I want. Things that are more unusual, alternative, and experimental.
HB: Hearing you talk, we can really feel the love you have for music. You also seem like a realistic person.
JAY B: Itās because I feel that if I stubbornly insist on doing what I want to do and it doesnāt turn out well, Iād get a rough reality check. Iām a cautious person, so if I persist only on what I want and then fail, Iād end up thinking that I just have no aptitude for music, and I thought that is more dangerous. If that happens, Iād feel sorry for the music that I like and I might even think that there was something wrong with the music or genres that I like. People might say that thatās ānot realā, but itās ārealā to me. Itās just my way of living.
HB: Youāre currently also in the crew āĆFFSHORE.ā What kind of crew is it?
JAY B: Itās a place where people who sell songs commercially and people who make their own music gather. It started with the purpose of people with the same interests making fun music together and releasing it. Offshore has the meaning of āshore/coastā. On the shore, there are lots of living things. There are times when the waves crash but also times when itās calm. Just like my Def. character, I think itās a place where I can freely include things Iāve never done before. It will carry on in the future too, but we wonāt have any eye-catching activities. Weāll just go on calmly.
HB: As you share your stories, weāre getting curious about Jay B as a producer too. Will we be able to hear songs that you produce for other artists someday?
JAY B: When I was in JYP, Iāve sent out songs that the publisher said would not work for GOT7. There were also songs that were selected by other people but could not be used because of my name. Now, I donāt think there will be those sorts of limitations, so I want to try producing for other people too. I donāt have confidence in being responsible for someone or nurturing trainees, though. Iām still busy trying to feed myself. But even so, Iād like to try to produce just one song for someone else. I would have a sort of image about someone, right? An image that they themselves wouldnāt even know. I think the process of trying to bring that out would be fun. Of course, Iām focused on my music now, but it would be nice if I got the chance someday.
HB: Another GOT7 member, Yugyeom, joined AOMG. Fans canāt help but look forward to the reunion of your unit āJus2ā.
JAY B: Since Yugyeom is in AOMG, I think that if we talk to Jay hyung, itās possible that we will release something as Jus2. Jus2 and JJ Project both include Jay B, but they are also units that are part of GOT7. I think that if we work hard at promoting them too, fans would feel a sense of security. I think that from now on is the time when both I, as well as GOT7, have to really do well.
HB: You mentioned that you wanted to release 1 GOT7 album a year.
JAY B: I donāt know whether it will work out, but we have to try and plan for it. Iāve mentioned multiple times that GOT7 has not disbanded. I believe that I should keep my word. Right now, everyone is actually busy working on their own things. Even so, we want to try and make one song for GOT7 a month, so that we can promote about once a year.
HB: You have a strong image as a great leader and hyung in GOT7. What would you like to show as JAY B in H1GHR MUSIC?
JAY B: I would like to hear people say āah, I guess they did a good job bringing him inā. I hope that when people listen to āSwitch It Upā, they wonāt think that āJay Park made the wrong choice this timeā. I think it would be nice if people thought that I was worth anticipating. Not that they brought in some strange kid. I donāt want to get cursed at. Haha.
HB: Do you have a final goal you want to achieve as an artist?
JAY B: I donāt. I just want to keep on steadily and quietly making music. To me, saying that you want to receive some sort of reward or that you want to become something is quite vague. I just hope that I can gain the drive to keep going on steadily and continue that cycle of creation. Thatās all.

Coogieās 8-track mixtape āI Got A Feelingā came out!
I loved his last album so much that Coogie was my most listened artist last year. As a consequence, my expectations were high, and I canāt post this without adding my opinions :D
1.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I Got A Feeling (prod. BMTJ)
Itās a solid typical Coogie song. I hope heāll perform it live (on the internet :D) sometime so we can enjoy his live singing. Coogie has this rare skill of singing rap where he can actually hit the notes AND do the rap without autotune or running out of breath, itās amazing^^ I didnāt know the producer well, but checked and he has worked with Big Naughty, Huh!, Bill Stax and others. You can find him under @/imbmtj.
2.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā What (feat. Wonstein) (prod. Vangdale, Kwonseyoung)
I guess this is my favorite song! I donāt really follow Wonstein, he seemed more a singer than a rapper to me, but here he raps so nicely I like it! His voice is nice, it sounds cute :D And I donāt even have to mention I love getting the original GXXD producing. Their little guitar riff and chill base line are such a nice signature sound that makes them always recognizable <3 Everyoneās styles and musical personalities blend so prettily in this song.
3.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Out of my way (feat. The Quiett) (prod. Roots, Vangdale)
This is funny because in their other collab on Coogieās last album, Coogie also said āget out of my wayā :D I have to admit, so far I havenāt really likes Rootsā beats but I donāt know whether itās because of Vangdale or Coogie, or because Roots changed, but itās great! :D
4.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Swoosh (feat. lIlBOI) (prod. Spray)
This reminds me so much of Sprayās other song Jangjeon. Maybe a bit too muchā¦ :D but either way, both songs are great and Iāll listen happily :D And lIlBOI sounds also cute (even if the lyrics arenāt haha) so :) :D
5.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā SWIPE (feat. Ourealgoat, Lil Nekh) (prod. Boycold)
Smol question: Are H1GHR and Yelows Mob adopting Ourealgoat foreal? Ever since Hwimin ādiscoveredā him they seem to be after him and while I would not have expected that, Iām not complaining š Both Ourealgoat and Lil Nekh are referencing/re-using old raps, idk if thatās a concept of this album... :D Itās a fresh mix of people who I didnāt expect to come together like this. Iād also want to hear Coogie sing this live^^ And itās nice to hear from Boycold who hasnāt been very active lately.
6.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā UP & DOWN (feat. Mirani, Penomeco) (prod. Groovyroom)
I know this was pre-released but I didnāt talk much about it then, so: Groovyroom! Theyāve been doing not much? One song here and there? And they havenāt worked with Coogie a lot. Itās nice to have them on this album. Ever since they announced they want to change from hip-hop to electronic music, Iāve been a bit skeptical and I also didnāt like some of their songs, but here (and on Sik-Kās album too btw) they mixed their new style nicely with the main artistās style, so now itās like a āregularā hip-hop beat with some fresh additions that distinguish the song a bit from others, and it sounds unique.
7.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Hold Up (prod. Lil Xasimi)
This might be my second favorite because of the beat :D Itās a niceu solid song. Lil Xasimi is a rather new producer who is close with, but not a member of, FA. He produced for Blase and Khan before and recently released his first own song. @/lilxasimi. Coogieās rap is smooth fast perfect as always, do I even need to mention it. You know how with some rappers, you get annoyed when in a good song, some lines donāt rhyme or only weirdly/badly, or they run out of lyrics and just go uh uh for two lines, or they just donāt understand to ride on the beat? This will never happen with Coogie, heās so reliable at always delivering perfect raps <3
8.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Kilo (Bonus Track) (prod. Dive, furyfromguxxi)
First 4 seconds: I know this sample. :D This happens so often that I almost get annoyed sometimes, but I can let it slide for many reasons :D ā itās Coogie so itās just gonna sound good ā I really like the sample/beat ā I never heard from this producer and Coogie must be supporting a newbie producer like this. Itās okay that he doesnāt make the complete thing by himself yet. ALSO I was wondering why they called it āBonus Trackā but I guess that (probably free beat) might be the reason, so itās ok. Iām just not sure what Dive is credited for? :D Itās a nice song! (If you want to know where I heard it first: Kash Bang ā Married to the money.)
As expected, a perfect, smooth, no-skip album again! Coogie is showing off his skills as well as his collection of talented producer friends :D Absolutely recommend!!

[ALBUM REVIEW] H1GHR MUSIC - BLUE TAPE
H1GHRās more R&B and pop oriented āBlue Tapeā is a much more compelling offering than itās predecessor thanks to its contagious energy and personality.
7.0 out of 10
With the release of āRed Tapeā done and dusted, the H1GHR rollout continues withĀ āBlue Tapeā. WhereĀ āRed Tapeā had some strong points, it was a muddy experience overall rife with inconsistent performances and dull production,Ā āBlue Tapeā is a much richer experience that interprets its late 90ā²s and early 2000ā²s DNA in electrifying ways. With the more pop and R&B influences onĀ āBlue Tapeā, the more vocal orientated members of the gang deliver some truly spectacular performances that submerge songs in a depth of vibrant colors.Ā
āBlue Tapeā shines brightest in its more melodic cuts likeĀ āAfternoonā, which is easily the recordās highest point. The 90ā²s R&B influence is fully embraced by Jay and Golden as they thread together some truly smooth and addictive melodies that are aided by some modern touches on the production. pH-1 comes in on the tail end with a sticky verse closing out what has all the potential to be a smash hit. This 90ā²s and early 2000ā²s influence extends to a good portion of the project;Ā āGotta Goā is steeped in a healthy dose of Pharrell/Neptunes worship with its jumpy percussion and aura of breeziness. Sik-Kās coarser delivery is contrasted perfectly by Golden and both Jay and pH-1 drop some effortlessly fly performances to boot. The Cha Cha and Phe Reds leadĀ āSwing My Wayā once again exudes its 90ā²s influence with a fresh coating of 2020 paint in a seamless fashion.Ā
Most of the roster bring some excellent performances, though Woodie who stole the show on much ofĀ āRed Tapeā, doesnāt quite come as strong onĀ āBlue Tapeā despite the more melodic side of things usually being more of his own personal style. pH-1, Golden, Jay and Big Naughty are the stars ofĀ āBlue Tapeā, with their chemistry and talents perfectly encapsulated on the lead single,Ā āOscarā, a warm and lovable pop tune that is stacked with infectious melodies and personable performances. Big Naughty shows some real popstar promise not only on āOscarā, but his solo trackĀ āLiveā, a stripped R&B number that he glides over like silk.Ā
The production is not quite as consistent however; there some rather barebones moments like onĀ āMe&Baeā where the arrangement and progressions just sound so mild and complacent, failing to conjure up any kind of tangible attitude or personality. In addition to this, Sik-Kās performance on top is mopey and Haonās singing doesnāt instill much confidence in his ability as a vocalist.Ā āBack From 0ā² falls under the same umbrella too, the production is washed and stripped of color. The production on Sik-Kās originalĀ āRSVPā was mediocre at best at release, and itās the same here but the performances are enough to elevate it enough to be memorable.Ā
āBlue Tapeā is a much more wholesome, and substantial release from H1GHR Music. The production inconsistencies and forgettable performances are far less prevalent on here than its predecessor,Ā āRed Tapeā. Rich and vibrant 90ā²s grooves are threaded with modern finishes and backed by some killer performances, making H1GHRāsĀ āBlue Tapeā an infectious and deeply charming compilation album that really speaks to the labelās strengths.Ā

Donut - pH-1
(Requested: Can I have a ph-1 scenario where you guys are married and have a son?!!)
Warnings: Fluff
"My life is sweet like donut."
People often remarked that you and Harry seemed to have it all; the perfect life, the house and the relationship built on love and trust.
You had met when you were both quite young and fallen headfirst and fast in love with each other. You had quickly become each other's everything and now years down the line, you couldn't imagine it being any other way.
When you were together it were as though you were both invincible. Others around you had warned you to not give everything up and throw yourselves so haphazardly into the blooming relationship, but you both knew better. You were fated.
Four years after you met, you got married on the anniversary of that day. On the night of your wedding when all the festivities had ended and both family and friends had gone home, together you had taken a picnic blanket out into the backgarden of your shared house and lay under the stars together.
With hands entwined and hearts full of love, you quietly wished on the twinkling stars for the continuation of your bright future together, and in hushed voices promised each other to walk this road together until the very end.
As the night breeze carried your hopes and dreams to the skies, you finally let actions speak more than words.
Nine months later, your son was born.
You knew Harry had always wanted to be a dad and that he would be a great one. He was so gentle and kind, there was no one who you'd rather share this experience with.
It was just as you both wanted, Harry felt like he was floating on a cloud and no one and nothing could possibly bring him down. Your baby boy was the centre of your shared universe. Life from that moment on was never the same.
Harry focused on his music and writing his lyrics, working hard to make you and your son proud. He made sure to discuss his future career with Jay in order to make sure that he would be able to spend as much time with you and your son as possible, whilst also still being an active part of the H1ghr family.
In the months after your son's birth, Harry was in and out of the studio and you would go and sit with him and the boys when you wanted to get some fresh air and a break from the house.
The H1ghr boys were surprisingly capable and willing to help you with your little one when Harry was too busy. Haon especially was in awe that there was a new tiny addition to the family. Whenever you came around, he'd come running to see the baby and check on you. You and Harry had a sneaking suspicion that he now considered himself the protective older brother of your baby boy.
Other than Haon, Woodie and Minsik were also very keen to help. Woodie wanting to buy your little boy all the coolest baby outfits, claiming that any baby that was part of the family needed to be fashionable. You gently reminded him not to spend too much money as he'd grow out of these clothes very very quickly.
Minsik was the most surprising of them all though; when you'd first come to the studio and office after giving birth, he'd quietly approached you and asked if he could hold his new nephew. You willingly obliged and couldn't help but smile as he carefully and lovingly held your son. The wonder evident on his face, sometimes it was easy to forget that he was still young himself, these were new experiences for him too. From that moment on, Minsik was designated as your son's God-father and he took the job very seriously.
Harry was proud of all his younger brothers putting themselves forward and stepping up for his son. He knew that they'd truly always be there for you all.
When Harry looked at you, he felt more and more love bloom inside of him. You were made for him. Watching you spread love to everyone around you and care for so many people made his body feel light. You remembered the little details about his friends; you looked after Haon, discussed the latest trends with Woodie, supported Minsik in his latest endeavours with Burberry, made time to go and sit with Hwimin and Gyujeong in their studio, always had deep conversations with Mokyo and found time to go and chat to all his other H1ghr family members.
He didn't understand how you had so much to give so freely.
Then on the occasions where you'd go and see the boys and girls of AOMG, you'd be warmly and happily welcomed there too. Hoody and Sogumm were two of your favourite people and you made sure to regularly meet up with your girls for relaxation sessions.
The boys of AOMG were also some of your favourite people, Sunghwa and Jay were the older brothers you never had. The moment Harry had introduced you to them both, they had threatened him not to let you go or ever hurt you. You also made sure to always check in on Wonjae, enjoying watching him in the studio. Harry often poked fun at you for your love of Wonjae and his voice.
You also had an admirer in the AOMG office as Simon often joked that you were HIS wife, pulling you away or pushing Harry away from you when he wanted to be close to you, irritating Harry to no end and recently even more with his reminders that if you two ever broke up, he would take on the role of stepfather with no worries.
It was all in good spirits though and you knew that Harry was grateful that so many people loved you and your son.
You made his everyday bright, being married and loving life with all its ups and downs. Of course you both had your off days, but you never let them define you and you both worked together to move past them and continue down the road you had promised to create with each other.
Home felt like his safe-place when he came back to your smiling face and open arms, his little boy's giggles filling the room whenever Harry did something to make him laugh, or in the evening to the soft sounds of you and your son both in peaceful slumber. This was his heaven.
Harry felt like his life couldn't possibly get better, he had everything he needed and more. Your son was growing bigger and gaining more and more personality with the days gone by. He had your undivided love and support, there was nothing more he needed.
Life was sweet.

'Korea Liberation Day' Is A Day Of Importance For Rapper Jay Park
Taking the time to respect past events will undoubtedly be seen as an admirable act. According to American rapper Jay Park, Aug 15 marks the freedom of Korea from Japan in 1945. It also led to the creation of the Korean government, which replaced the previous government's law. 'Korea Liberation Day' Is Discussed In-Depth By Jay Park On Aug 15, Park posted a clip to the music video for H1GHR Music's "DNA" on his Instagram to honor Korea's Liberation Day. The video was in English and had a long caption. āResources and artifacts stolen from or destroyed," Jay posted. According to the Edmonds-born rapper, the Korean culture and traditions were in danger of being destroyed, and they were at risk of extinction. In addition, there was once a prohibition on speaking the Korean language throughout much of the country. Therefore, people of Korean descent were forced to change their last names. Certain countries operate bizarrely. All individuals are entitled to keep the name they were given at birth, regardless of their nationality or heritage. Ā View this post on Instagram Ā A post shared by Jay Park (ė°ģ¬ė²) š°š· (@moresojuplease) Koreans Underwent Immense Suffering According To Jay Park Moreover, Koreans endured terrible suffering, including enslavement, death, torture, racial discrimination, and oppression. "War breaking out within our own people and families torn apart and millions killed," he said. The effects of war on families have resulted in numerous cases of family breakdown, leading to a great deal of tragedy. Immediately following the Korean War, South Korea experienced poverty comparable to that experienced by North Korea, if not worse. As a result, many people died from starvation and resorted to eating dirt to sustain themselves. The satisfaction of one's hunger should never be achieved by eating inedible items. According to the rapper, diligent work, perseverance, and unwavering willpower have turned disaster into victory throughout Korea's long, turbulent, and heartbreaking history. Furthermore, Jay feels that the more he learns, the more aware he will be of his spoiledness. A mentality similar to Jay's is not unique. In our privilege of enjoying a stable life without financial hardships, we tend to forget to recognize those struggling. Jay Park Exhibits Appreciation Aside from that, Jay wishes to express his gratitude to those who have ensured he has enjoyed such a rewarding life. One of the signs of maturity is expressing gratitude and putting pride aside when acknowledging one would not be where they are today without their ancestor's contributions. "The world knows us for entertainment, music and film. They will know our story soon as well. Happy Liberation Day,ā Park said. Objections Against The 'DNA Remix' Music Video In June of 2021, the first version of the "DNA Remix" music video was released to highlight Korean culture and heritage. It also illustrates how Korean music has influenced cultures around the world. However, due to social media criticism, the video was set to private after many users pointed out the flaws. It has been argued that the rappers' dreadlocks and braids illustrate cultural appropriation. So dna remix is about being proud Koreans...yet they're cosplaying as Black American people and are using Black American culture constantly...interesting š #DNARemix #khiphop #DNA #JayPark pic.twitter.com/MumxtFDda7 ā š š š” š” š š šÆš²&ā¤š±š¤ (@CallMeGizzzy) June 15, 2021 Former President Of North Korea, Kim II Sung, Freed The People In 1945 Now, let's take a moment to talk about the hero who saved the day! Koreans observe the Day of Korea's Liberation tribute to President Kim II Sung. Sung opened the way to a new life for the nation by performing the legendary deeds he is best known for. Due to the occupation of the Japanese military during the first half of the twentieth century, the Korean people experienced a great deal of misery. To be able to lead the struggle for national liberation that Kim Il Sung initiated when he was at the helm of the country, he set up a state of war against the Japanese attackers. There was an immediate release of the Japanese military on August 15, 1945, which marked the liberation of the Korean people from the long period of Japanese rule that lasted nearly half a century. Experiencing Happiness Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of people rushed to the playground, shouting thunderous cheers and waving flags in a show of unity, not only from Pyongyang and its surroundings but also from Sariwon, Haeju, Sinuiju, and throughout the country. When one knows they have just been released from adversity, they will likely celebrate with as much joy as possible. The cheers expressed the Korean people's appreciation for Kim II Sung. His leadership fulfilled the national dreams of the Korean nation. They also expressed their willingness and readiness to participate in creating a new country under his command. On October 14, 1945, a historic meeting was held between Kim Il Sung and the country's people at the Pyongyang public playground (now known as Kim Il Sung Stadium), in which he made a speech that will live in history. A great deal of credit should be given to Kim II Sung for his diligent work. His contributions will be remembered forever. His efforts resulted in the freedom of many innocent individuals who had been held against their will. Like, why canāt a K-Pop person swear, why canāt they have half-naked ladies in a music video. Itās just a music video, why not? He says: ā They can be the greatest rapper in the world but if theyāre an asshole I donāt want to work with them, they donāt have to be at AOMGā
PROFESSIONAL FACTS
He is founder and co-CEO of AOMG, along with Simon Dominic (although Jay owns more percentage of the company)
He has recently created H1GHR MUSIC RECORDS with Cha Cha Malone
He is a singer, rapper, songwriter, producer, actor, dancer, Ā b-boy, model, choreographer and entrepreneur
In 2003, he joined Art of Movement (AOM), a Seattle-based B-boying groupĀ
In 2004, Jayās mother suggested him to audition for the Korea-based company JYP Entertainment, which brought him to Korea in January 2005 to receive further training in dancing, rapping, singing, and the Korean language After passing an audition in the US, he signed a contract with JYP Entertaiment and moved to South Korea to be a trainee
He practiced singing and Korean for 4 years and eventually debuted as leader of 2PM in 2008. After a controversy about some messages he wrote on his personal Myspace back in 2005 when he was still a trainee, he was forced to leave 2PM. He wrote messages about how bad was South Korea (He was in a foreign country, he didnāt knew the language nor the culture, he had no friends or family there. He was going trough a lot). Although outraged protesters demanded that Park should be removed from 2PM, JYP Entertainmentās CEO, Park Jin-young, stated on September 7, 2009, that he was going to continue as a part of the groupThe following day, Jay announced on his official fancafe that he would be leaving the group to calm the situation and return to his hometown, Seattle. He also apologized to the other 2PM members
He went back to Seattle in 2009
His vocals werenāt removed from the older songs he promoted with 2PMĀ
Through their acceptance speeches at end-of-year award shows for āAgain & Againā, the members of Ā 2PM thanked Jay and reiterated their wish for his return. At the Mnet Asian Music Awards, the group paid homage to him during their performance of āAgain & Againā with a spotlight shown over his usual position in the dance formation and his lines left unsung. However, some 2PM fans said that the members used to insult Jay after his departure
After returning to Seattle Jay worked at a local tire shop, because he didnāt want to rely on his parents
Soon after Jay returned to the United States, the South Korean public changed their perspective on the matter when they realised that his Myspace messages had been severely mistranslated and taken out of context, in addition to strong fan support for Jayās return
On February 25, with Jayās comeback looking more and more likely, JYP suddenly announced that Jay Parkās contract with them had been terminated, citing a separate āpersonal mistakeā that Park had made in 2009. JYP would make reference to this unknown event several times in 2010, but would never elaborate on any details
āItās not illegal, but it will be a very big scandal socially. We cannot reveal it for the sake of Jay Park. Even Sidus was curious and released articles of asking us to tell the reason. But we have to keep it a secret for Jay Park. He committed the act during AAA promotion without letting his members know. As soon as the members found out, they stated that they could not promote with him as a group anymore.ā
This termination had been agreed by all 6 members of 2PM and led to fan boycotts on 2PM-endorsed products. Protests for Jayās return to the group began to take place, not only in South Korea, but internationally as well. Various Jay Park-dedicated forums and fansites all over the world organized silent protests and flash dance mobs. Fans also hired a plane with a banner showing "J, what time is it now?ā to fly over Seattle, and was broadcast on Seattle-based radio stations
On June 15, 2010, B.o.B released āNothinā on Youā featuring Jay Park, in South Korea, where he replaces Bruno Marsā vocals. His YouTube cover helped contribute to much of the songās success in Korea, with more than 5 million copies sold. HeĀ subsequently thanked his fans for their support and continued to urge them not to hate remaining 2PM members
Los Angeles-based entertainment attorney Ned Sherman, CEO of Digital Media Wire, announced on May 28 that he was representing Jay as his legal representative. Sherman and his wife Tinzar reached out to Park, after seeing Jayās story and feeling bad about what happened to him during the MySpace controversy. The Shermans and Jay worked on a lot of projects together, including his movie deal for Hype Nation, an endorsement deal with dENiZEN, Levi Strauss & Co.ās new brand, and others
SidusHQ defended Jay against claims made by Park Jin Youngā¦
āWe hope that Park Jaebeom will no longer be wounded by his former company and will be allowed to actively promote himself. We would like to express our gratitude towards the people that continue to support and regard him with warm eyes. We greet you once more with a better image. Thank you.ā
In March 2010, he uploaded a cover video of B.o.Bās āNothinā on Youā, with his own rap and lyrics, to YouTube, which went viral and reached over 2,000,000 views in less than 24 hours

First, I liked him {Jay Park] very much. I could trust him. I chose him because we were chasing the same thing about music. Moreover, I felt we fit together in many points besides music. Definitely I pursue original and (American) native color in many ways, and Jay was definitely showing native color. We, VVD crewās goal is to be competitive when we are compared to the (American) native artists, so weāve been thinking highly of him. I was not so close with him in person, but you know, thereās some feeling that we can feel when we meet someone. I was 28 years old last year, I was not too young. I thought he was humane when I first saw him, and he looked very cool with a great mind and his move has been great so far. I think he has contributed a lot (to hiphop). He brought his fandom to this (hiphop) scence and I think he and Illonaire were a win-win relationship. So I didnāt have anything to agonize in many ways. I am not the person who only raps and I do both hiphop and R&B so I thought AOMG would be perfet for me because there would be many things I could do there.
He thinks that AOMG was the company that could support him without interfere, and that they could grow together

He used to stutter when he was younger and it became a serious problem for him while growing up. At that time he came to know hip hop and he found it amazing how rappers express their inner thoughts freely
He was inspired by Kanye West and CB Mass, whom he listened to with his friends
He and his friends decided that they also wanted to compose and they formed a group called āSatgotbongā (which is why his instagram is āSatgotlocoā), this was the name of the sauna that was located in their neighborhood. The producer also apologized to the rapper, stating that LOCO was not even aware of the azan sample being used in the track
He explained that after he won the first season of Mnetā²s Show Me The Money, he signed with a new label that didnā²t have the means to support him. Though he desired to leave the label, the penalty for breaking the contract was 200 million won
Ā "Thatā²s when I met Jay Park, and Jay Park said that if I agreed to join AOMG, he would pay the penalty. And my first track with AOMG ā²Hold Me Tightā² did so well that I was able to pay my debt back to him in full.āĀ

When Jay was asked if he had been influenced by Gray when he decided to contact Loco for AOMG, Jay answered:Ā
When we started, there were only me, Gray, Jeongoon and Chacha. Jeongoon and Chacha are composers, so there were only two artists, me and Gray. So I was observing Loco with interest. I have heard about him a lot from Gray, and I asked Dok2 how he was. In fact, Dok2 rarely praises anyone, but he told me Loco was good, so I thought he might be good. I met him often with Gray and I thought it would be good to be with him

It has a lot of meanings. If you translate it literally, well, it means an ugly duck. Of course, it relates somewhat to my appearance as well. Despite the word āuglyā connoting something negative, I wanted to twist that into giving off the ambience of āIām still better than you even if Iām ugly.ā This is also why I wrote down the lyrics, āI donāt care about being a swan. I like being like this.ā But the biggest reason behind this name is that I wanted to rap āugly.ā Thereās the phrase, āUgly truthā and if you reverse it, it becomes āTruth is uglyā meaning Iām the truth! I guess I just felt compelled to the word āuglyā and thought of it as cool. Of course, I still think itās cool to this day. I like it because it feels like hip hop. #nowplaying eās Top 10: Week of 7/31
This weekās top 10 is a collection of songs that have me feeling every type of way. The Spotify gods blessed me with an incredible mix of new releases, plus there are a couple of gems that have resurfaced this week as well. SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS LIST OKAY HERE WE GO:
1.Ā dumbfoundead, g.soul - ė¬¼ water
Iām having trouble emulating the importance of Dumbfoundeadās music on theĀ Korean-American Asian-American community. He started up as a well-known rap battler in the underground rap scene in LA, and accumulated a fan base through his ridiculously savage and clever freestyle raps. Originally from LAās K-Town, Dumbfoundead decided to cross the Pacific and begin collaborating with artists in the motherland. I love everything aboutĀ āWaterā: the beat, the witty-ass lyrics (āShe want a wedding dress, but I ain't ķģ (Taeyang)"), the type beat, etc. It is the ultimate song about thirst and thirst alone. DRINK UP.Ā
2.Ā dean - 21
I wonder who Deanās muse is because I would LOVE to sign up. Dean is a gift from the gods that we mere mortals do not deserve. Heās got it all going for him: the production skill set, sweet honey vocals, jaw-dropping looks, and just enough subtle hip movement to make girls swooooon. ā21ā³ comes off his album ā130:mood) released in 2016, and will have your hips swaying back and forth the entire time. Dean croons about āreally wanting to knowā and pursue the girl of his interests. Regardless of her flaws and habits, he doesnāt give a fuck and wants to get know this girl.Ā I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE PICK ME CHOOSE ME LOVE ME.Ā
3.Ā groovy room, suran, pH-1 - somewhere
I have officially jumped onto the Groovy Room bandwagon. Groovy Room is a production duo signed under the Ā global music label set up by AOMGās Jay Park and Cha Cha Malone called H1GHR MUSIC RECORDS. Groovy Room has produced some of my favorite songs, like the legendary EUNG FREESTYLE (ģķė¦¬ģ¤ķģ¼) that you always hear on the YouTube Red ads. But yeah, aside from being really good-looking, Groovy Room has produced a pretty legendary debut albumĀ EVERYWHERE, which includes a roster of artists such as Jay Park, Heize, Dok2, Sik-K, nafla, and etc. My favorite song off of EVERYWHERE isĀ āSomewhereā (ģ“ėģƤģ) with Suran and pH-1, a breakup song about calling quits on a relationship before shit really hits the fan. Suranās unique, ethereal voice coupled with the light tropical house backdrop and pH-1ā²s verse creates such an awesome, summery tune by Groovy Room. ButĀ EVERYWHEREĀ in general is such a good album.Ā
4.Ā millic, club eskimo - igloo
I featured millic briefly on my Thursday post regarding his new album Vida. The songĀ āIglooā features his crew Club Eskimo, which comprisesĀ Dean, Crush, Millic, Camper, OFFONOFF (Colde & 0channel), Punchnello, Chek Paren, 2xxx!, JusĆ©n, and Miso. One word to describe this song: viiiiiibey. Millic has a distinct production sound and he really makes his mark with this tune featuring this star-studded crew. I am fucking obsessed with the jazzy bridge and Dean and Crush LITERALLY crooning during it. Fucking swoooooooon.Ā
5.Ā zico, fanxy child - fanxy childĀ
I fell in love with this song watching Zico and Deanās producer performance on Show Me The Money 6. Deanās killer partĀ ādifferent r&b r&bā part literally has me melting and had every producer watching his performance go insane. Fanxy Child is a crew comprised of Zico, Dean, Penomeco, Millic and Crush, adn their anthem āFanxy Childā is the typicalĀ āhere we is. here to stay. fuck what u heard. we fucking out hereā statement song. Such an incredible group of artists getting together and creating awesome music. I cannot wait for Fanxy Child to release more beats. Ā
6.Ā day 6 - lean on me (ģ¤ėģ ė“ź²)
āLean On Meā brings back some heavy, middle school alternative/emo vibes. Day 6 in this song is reminiscent of Cartel, The Rocket Summer, We the Kings, you know, the real deal. This song withĀ āDance Danceā has been on repeat pretty frequently this past week, hurling me back into the past of emotional, middle-school tunes. Itās interesting and awesome that Day 6 takes Korean rock and twirls an American circa mid 2000s vibe to it. The product is a sweet and pop-punky tune about always having someone to lean on.Ā
7.Ā aminĆ© - slide
ITāS HERE. Holy shit, I have been waiting for this album for MONTHS. I knew AminĆ© was something really special after his triple-platinum singleĀ āCarolineā dropped. There was something so refreshing and bouncy about this Portland-rapper. Good For YouĀ as a whole is a good listen, my favorites includingĀ āWedding Crashersā,Ā āYellowā, and āBlindsā, butĀ āSlideā reigns as the number one favorite. AminĆ© raps about how he wants this girl toĀ āslide throughā but tries to remove the concept of it being a mere hook up, claimingĀ āno, this aināt a booty call/ Itās a late night snackā. Honestly, this shit is so good and is just so refreshing and wavy. Itās bouncy, vibey, young, and fun.Ā
8.Ā snakehips, anne-marie, joey bada$$ - either way
Snakehips is one of my favorite electronic duos ever. Some of my favorite songs ever they have produced, like āDonāt Leaveā with MĆ, and āAll My Friendsā with Tinashe and Chance. And they do it again withĀ āEither Wayā, with British singer-songwriter Anne-Marie and Joey Bada$$. Not my favorite Snakehips song, but good enough to warrant an addition to this list. With a summery silky tone, Anne-Marie and Joey Bada$$ās verses glide right over the subtle and smooth beats.Ā
9.Ā billie eilish - my boy
BILLIE EILISH IS THE NEXT BIG FUCKING THING IN FEMALE POP. Jesus, this girl is 15 fucking years old (born in 2001 what the actual fuck) and THIS SONG IS FUCKING AMAZING. Billie Eilish croons about a lying ass amidst a failing relationship, but instead of playing the part of the sappy, sad broken-hearted girl, Billie Eilish creates the ultimate yet subtle āHAHA FUCK YOUā anthem:Ā ā My boy's being sus and he don't know how to cuss, he just sounds like he's tryna be his fatherĀ /Ā My boy's an ugly crier but he's such a pretty liar and by that I mean he said he'd "changeā. You can literally feel her rolling her eyes and being so blase about the fact that her boy sucks and she knows it. Iām pretty sure at 15, I was still unable to speak to boys properly and they made me cry SO.Ā
10.Ā dev - all i wanna do
I have been a Dev fan since the start of her career when she featured on Far East MovementāsĀ āLike a G6ā³. Yeah for sure she is the stereotypical pop star, but sheās honestly never failed me.Ā āAll I Wanna Doā is blunt to say the least:Ā ā Don't care if ya know me / Taste my lips and blow me / Touch you body, you know it's all I wanna doā. This song is SUPER trashy but SUPER catchy and typical of Dev. Itās a great song to dance to and listen to on repeat.Ā āAll I Wanna Doā is off her upcoming September 8 album release I Only See You When Iām Dreaming.

Jay Park: from K-pop to Jay-Z
(CNN)When Jay Park became one of the first and only Asian artists signed to Jay-Zās label, Roc Nation, earlier this summer, the hip-hop world was rattled.
Not that Park, who was born to Korean immigrant parents in Seattle, was overly concerned. In fact, itās the type of thing heās grown accustomed to.
āMe, being Asian-American, I was always looked at as an outsider. I always had to fight for my place,ā Park told CNN during a recent interview.
For an outsider, Park is very much āinā at present. The 30-year-old rapper has seen his celebrity status soar in recent months. In addition to working on his debut Roc Nation album, heās also preparing to join the second season of āAsiaās Got Talentā as a judge. The popular show premieres October 12 across 27 countries in Asia.
Itās Official @RocNation This is a win for the Town This is a win for Korea This is a win for Asian Americans This is a win for the overlooked and underappreciated This is a win for genuine ppl who look out for their ppls This is a win for hard work and dedication This is a win for honesty and authenticity Thank you for the acknowledgement and recognitionšš Just gettinā started 10ė

A post shared by $hway BUM Park ė°ģ¬ė² (@jparkitrighthere) on Jul 20, 2017 at 10:49pm PDT
āJay Park has clearly become an icon for those struggling to make a name for themselves,ā said Flowsion Shekar, CEO of Koreaboo, a popular content platform specializing in K-pop with a reach of over 50 million.
āIt shows that Asia is not being ignored ā¦ You can be an R&B singer, a rapper, a singer from Asia and have ambitions to takeover a global market. You can be recognized by the greats.ā
One canāt spin a better comeback story
But success didnāt come easy to Park.
Like many Asian families, Parkās mom had aspirations for him to be a doctor or lawyer.
āThat wasnāt happening, because I was skipping school and going breakdancing,ā said Park who joined a b-boy crew named Art of Movement.
Park was curious about hip-hop since the second grade, convincing an older cousin to share music despite the bad words. Counting West Coast gangsta rapper Warren G and the sitcom āThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Airā as inspirations, he started rapping by the fourth grade.
Fortunately for Park, his mom eventually relented and suggested he enter into a locally advertised talent audition, which turned out to be organized by one of the biggest K-pop labels, JYP Entertainment.
Not thinking much would come of it, Park, then 17, skipped out of the audition early to grab fast food at Taco Bell.
It was left up to his mom, who had stayed behind after Park had preformed, to relay the news that he had been selected to travel to South Korea.
And so began Parkās entry into the music industry, as the face of K-pop boy band, 2PM.
āI thought Iāll go for a couple of years and help my family out,ā said Park.
āAt that time, it was just me, and mom and my brother, having money problems. We couldnāt pay the electric and water bill.ā
But his new life in Seoul proved difficult. Today Park is near fluent in Korean, but back then was only a beginner.
āIt was really hard to sacrifice my life in Seattle and do this thing I knew nothing about,ā said Park over the phone from Seoul.
āIt was a culture shock, the seniority system, the food and the way they did things. ā¦ For me, it was a hobby and fun, but there, it was training, almost like a job, where you have to practice from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.ā
Park complained about the challenges of life in the boy band on his MySpace page. The offensive comments were leaked publicly in 2009 and facing a fan backlash, he left the group.
āWe parted ways, and I went back to Seattle ā¦ It is what it is,ā says Park.
New Beginnings
After leaving the K-pop world, Park moved back home to the Seattle area and started working at a used car shop.
While there, he uploaded a cover video of B.o.Bās hit āNothinā on Youā onto YouTube, inserting his own lyrics and rap.
The video went viral, with more than two million views in less than a day.
āI donāt give up,ā said Park. āI wasnāt attached to the fame or the lifestyle ā¦ The main point in the beginning was to support my family.ā
The videoās success helped him to return to the music business, creating his own label, AOMG. His fourth solo album āEverything You Wantedā was released last October, and rose to No. 3 on Billboardās World Album Chart and No. 3 on the iTunes US R&B Chart.
āMe being in the system in a group with the company, I didnāt have much to express myself,ā said Park. ā(Now) I finally have the freedom to do what I wanted to do.ā
His new album ā representing his style of rap, R&B and electronica ā is set to come out next year.
āThey (Roc Nation) like the image I have now,ā said Park. āIām just me.ā
In addition to AOMG, heās launched a second label, H1GHR Music Records, with artists from the US and Asia. Through his music, he hopes to reform the image of the Asian male, from being seen as āpeople who are good at mathā to be āsexy too.ā
He also dreams of working with Rihanna and knows it may be āfarfetchedā to work directly with Jay-Z, but heās āwilling to put in the work to make that happen and one day weāll see.ā
āItās still crazy to me that he knows who I am,ā said Park, a longtime Jay-Z fan.

REVIEW ROUNDUP: PUNCHNELLO, HI-LITE RECORDS & HAON
[SINGLE] Punchnello - AbsintheĀ
8.5 out of 10
Following the dissolution of Tabloās HIGHGRND label, promising acts like Punchnello were left in limbo. Finding a new home at AOMG, Punchnello ensures that his return is viscous withĀ āAbsintheā. Produced by 0channel of Offonoff,Ā āAbsintheā is an obtuse hip-hop track that draws influence from noise-rap and light industrial elements. Punchnelloās conviction is what sells the shrapnel-like production, his verses are as menacing as they are precise and his explosive delivery on the hook is all in.Ā āAbsintheā is as much of a new direction for Punchnello as it is for 0channel as a producer, but no part of this single feels like uneasy footing. Punchnello makes a vivacious return withĀ āAbsintheā, not only in the sheer volume of the track but also in its tightly spun verses and heavily textured arrangement.Ā
[SINGLE] Reddy, SwayD, Paloalto, G2, YunB, HuckleberryP & Jowonu - Air
7.0 out of 10
In what has become a yearly tradition, the cast of Hi-Lite Records have come together again in 2019 for another posse cut,Ā āAirā. Structurally,Ā āAirā keeps things interesting by having two separate hooks delivered nicely by Reddy and headmaster Paloalto himself. Yosi provides the production onĀ āAirā, itās nothing exceptional but it functions just fine, and has enough subtle switchups between verses to keep things from sounding stale. When it comes to performances, itās the final three verses from HuckP, newcomer Jowonu and Paloalto that steal the show. HuckP engages in a more sing-songy flow not often heard from him and Jowonu earns his stripes with his clean, glossy flow. Paloalto closes with yet another butter-like verse, referencing his labelmates and self-acknowledging his extraordinary 2018 album with Justhis.Ā

[Album] Paloalto & Justhis - 4 The Youth
[SINGLE] HAON - Flower
6.0 out of 10
H1GHR musicās youngest signee, HAON swept a fair few rookie awards for 2018 and rightfully so for his high energy pop-rap debut EP āTravel: NOAHā. HAON kicks off his 2019 withĀ āFlowerā which is easily his poppiest tune yet. While his gleeful personality still permeates through his performances in the verses, itās held back by the lackluster production throughout these sections - itās overly sparse and devoid of texture. The hook does seeĀ āFlowerā bloom brighter, the hearty brass lead and simple, sticky melody is hard to dislike in addition to HAONās catchy refrains. Although he cycles through pretty typical flows, he delivers them with a lot of charm and electricity.Ā āFlowerā lacks the high gloss finish of HAONās prior work but his personality continues to radiate just as bright.Ā
