feeling those autumn vibes lately, so I had to put it to text. and after a very belated realisation that Tove Jansson wrote Höstvisa, this came to be 🍂
more chapters will be added eventually. I just needed to write something other than my much too long, angsty fic (which I'm adamant about not posting until I have it at least 90% done - which will be quite a while)
but I can never make purely lighthearted fluff. it has to hurt a little. which autumn is the perfect season for with these two 💔
I hope you enjoy! 🍂🍂🍂

An Autumn Song lyrics link that works:
The lyrics of the Autumn Song is so built on the same metaphor as that of 'Onni': the span of our years as the yearly arc of the seasons, with a beginning, a splendid, joyous summer, and a too-soon autumn with its shortening days. Or even that of Shakespeare's eighteenth sonnet: "Summer's lease hath all too short a date."

‘Onni’ – Happiness
No your happiness shall not go under, A cloud pulls away from in front of the Sun, Springtime cold has burst forth into blossom, And night’s frost has finally gone. Go out swiftly, go now to greet love, When the Sun’s riding high, love will sure come your way; And then it will still hold its child dear In the chill of a winter’s day. No your happiness shall not forsake you, You may sleep in peace at the bosom of love; He who fears that his happiness leave him Has already chased happiness off.
The Finnish lyrics (by Teppo Nuorva) is impressive… weapons-grade poetry
Essi [Wuorela] asked if I could write the text for Rajaton. I appreciated the request and decided to get to work right away. The composition was made to a poem by Saima Harmaja, but it was decided not to use that after all. The melody was beautiful and clear. I was walking the dog on a sawdust trail along the Kylmäoja bank, along the side of a field and back. I did not get hold of anything. Saima Harmajas ethereal presence breathed in my neck, so to say.
I made the walk a second and a third time: nothing. A week went by, another one, my shoes wore out and the dog was pleased. Then once, at the end of my walk, lost for words and despairing, in some cranny of my mind started playing Erna Tauros composition and Tove Jansson’s text Höstvisa: “Skynda dig älskade, skynda att älska …” It was early spring and the Autumn Song, therefore, suited me well. Somehow I got hold of a corner of a mood.
Happiness is written and spoken about a lot. Happiness and good fortune are in. One ought to be in control of one’s life and the owner of one’s happiness, but both are utterly impossible for humans. When happiness becomes a task, it’s gone. This I was thinking aloud as I walked, and then the text was ready, really. In springtime, cold and warm, death and life are side by side. That’s what they always are of course, but spring, like, drives it home.
I was not entirely happy with the text. I had interpreted the demo song carelessly, and the stress on one word did not feel right. Fortunately, Ahti [Paunu] had noticed this during Rajaton rehearsals and proposed a change: “maan uumeniin” (“to the depths of the Earth”) was to be changed to “maan poveen” (“to the bosom of the Earth”), and the word “jo” (“already”) was to be added. It was spot-on: “maan poveen” is an expression used at [Finnish] funerals, but an expression of warmth; also there, death and life are side by side. Also the rhythm agreed with the Finnish language.
Writing the text for 'Onni’ gave me cause to reflect on happiness and gave the dog exercise. It did not make me happier, but it helped me to remember that happiness is just there by your side all the time. Happiness can not be owned, but it may reach out to you.
– Teppo Nuorva

Btw Tove Jansson is a huge inspiration for chapter 5, I want there to be this wistful end of the summer / contemplating your place in the world and in the lives of your loved ones -feel that is there in Höstvisa, the beginning of Moominpappa at Sea, and scenes of Snufkin leaving Moominvalley for winter. But like an undercurrent for the sexual relationship dynamics that power some very hot smut scenes. But yeah. Somehow Moominvalley and Klovharu too.

I was listening to höstvisa in swedish through a recommended youtube link from the finnish version, following the lyrics someone had posted in the comments (I didn’t know it was originally by tove jansson! I thought it was originally in finnish, the translation is so good), and this bit of censorship confused me greatly before the song got to that part
...youtube, ‘slut’ isn’t just an english word omg

Brita Molin (June 12, 1919 - 2008) was a Swedish artist who specialized in color etchings/aquatints. Her work at first seems non-figurative, but then you start spotting shapes inspired by nature...

oh wait i got tagged | song tag
@tenacious-scripturient tagged me for this so thanks dude:
list ten songs you’ve been listening to a lot lately and tag three people. (because yes, ten is too much)
and i’ll be adding why i’m listening to them and/or why they slap because teehee i like reasoning
1.) Come Along/The Much Much How How and I album in general by Cosmo Sheldrake
i got back into listening to the album from thinking of doing a cover of Come Along (was thinking Solar Waltz but CA brings a lot more fun in terms of playing around in vocals) as well as thinking about the story i made to go along with the whole album. also, it slaps.
2.) Dream Sweet in Sea Major by Miracle Musical/Joe Hawley
it’s its own masterpiece, and i got back into it after showing a friend the end.
3.) Say Yeah by Kishi Bashi
because who can’t get past the flute solo?
4.) Volunteer by Bitter Ruin
it just has that creepy but whimsical vibe to it that i like to imagine slow dancing or falling to it, don’t know why, but it’s pretty
5.) Humility by Gorillaz
i have an idea of an opening sequence for this song, plus beach vibes be cool
6.) Carnaval by Lisa Ono
the song is beautiful and i lowkey hope its the winter guard show we have this year, simple as that
7.) Coldest Night of the Year by Vashti Bunyan and Twice as Much
should’ve been a christmas classic, the vibes are too strong
8.) Alex on the Spot from Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
blame the fact that i finally figured out the name after having it stuck in my childhood mind for ages
9.) Höstvisa by Tove Jansson and sung by Johanna Grüssner
Grüsser’s is my favorite version of the song considering the composition that feels more,, i don’t know how to word it, genuine? it sounds like something that takes you out of it and brings you into the woods and a lullaby almost
10.) Aguarela do Brasil by João Gilberto
to be frank, i listen to more Jobim than Gilberto but this song just brings a nice warmth and homeyness in tone, plus i was thinking of a really colorful and bright dance sequence to go with the song and i needed to visualize with the music.
now then,, i’ll tag @athenathebandit, @thewholeuniverseisrighthere annnnd @thewannabeauthor
#this was actually kinda hard to choose#since i usually play my music in the car as dj#so i try to choose as much as possible to not be repetitive#long post#tag game#listen to these they slap#irrelevant to writing

Äänestä, mikä laulu kuvaa suomalaista mielenmaisemaa? – Suosituimpia kappaleita lauletaan Tampereen tuomiokirkossa 5.12. (Tamperelainen)
Lue alkuperäinen artikkeli tältä sivulta: this site
TAPAHTUMA Tuomiokirkossa juhlistetaan Suomea yhteislaulutilaisuudella.
Muiden laulujen kohtalo on tamperelaisten käsissä.
Tampereen seurakunnat on avannut nettiäänestyksen, jossa voi äänestää ja ehdottaa omia suosikkejaan. Yhteislaulutilaisuuden teemana on suomalainen mielenmaisema.
– Genre on avarakatseinen. Ihmiset voivat itse määritellä, mikä kappale puhuttelee, pastori Jussi Laine toteaa.
Äänestyksessä on pohjalla jo jonkin verran ehdotuksia, muun muassa Nocturne, Anna mulle tähtitaivas, Viidestoista yö, Satumaa, Hyvää huomenta Suomi ja Murheellisten laulujen maa.
Äänestykseen voi ehdottaa vain suomalaisia kappaleita.
– Myös ruotsinkieliset laulut otetaan mukaan. Esimerkiksi Tove Janssonin sanoittama Höstvisa on ollut viime aikoina kysytty kappale erilaisissa tilaisuuksissa.
Pastori Merja Halivaara suosittelee tulemaan itsenäisyyspäivän aaton yhteislaulutilaisuuteen hyvissä ajoin, esimerkiksi puoli tuntia ennen tilaisuuden alkua.
– Suomalaiset tykkäävät laulaa yhdessä. Tuomiokirkon yhteislaulutilaisuudet ovat olleet aina hirveän suosittuja, ja ensimmäisenä menevät tietenkin parhaimmat paikat.
Tuomiokirkossa laulettiin maallista musiikkia ensimmäisen kerran vuonna 2013.
