Note: 玄武 is one of the four Chinese mystical beasts corresponding to four constellations in Chinese astronomy. The beast is a dark tortoise with the head and neck of a snake. It represents the colour black, and the quadrant north, and corresponds to the winter and the element water. In some Daoist traditions the beast is also personified into a god of human figure, the 玄武神, or later known as 真武 after the 宋 (Song) dynasty.
