finally here to drop on you: some thoughts on the first ep of starlight boys!

the auditions I have something to say about

blood sweat and tears: ke ming kai, li sheng jun and sheng qi

way too hard song choice. I get why so many trainees would choose a bts song, but why this song? please someone point me towards a cover of bs &t that had the same aura as the original, bc at this point i'm convinced it is uncoverable. the pitch of it, too, is so dangerous in the way that if you don't get the feel of that intro right, you're lost immediately...

breathe: syo and ryou kaito

don't like syo's style of singing. japanese vocal style that will need to go. otherwise, I'm actually pretty neutral about it.

darari: kim seong ju

not him going platinum seller with the trainees lmao. I mean, if anything, it proved the guiders right in giving him one star

crazy form: kim seon jae, han jeong woo and choi jun ho

obviously have been trained. something about the intro was way off, idk if it was the pitch or if it was just done monotonously but it got my sibling and me real scared. not necessary though! the rest of it was pretty great!

black suit: shao zi heng

WOW. he's really good, stable, good pronunciation and mindset, BEAUTIFUL too. spoilers include that he's in my top9 right now. I got real shady vibes at first, about the level of humbled he was giving ... felt like an act for a minute there, but it was probably just the nerves!

the babies did so great... the AURA in this performance was insane. the synchronized choreo at the start?? oh, these are idols, is what you're telling me

fantastic baby: rex, zhang ji jun and yang yan

I did not enjoy this. audition performances need to showcase skill and potential. if part of your potential is showmanship, then great. if you utilize showmanship purely to draw attention, then there was no potential shown. I can get why the trainees might have liked it though (song choice, atmosphere yada yada)

pretty much neutral about this. wasn't bad by any means, but I also already forgot all of them except wang kun

really really: nam son, lee da eul, park yeon wook and jeon min gyu

are they giving da eul another came from the bottom narrative? I feel like he should have come on by himself instead..

VERY impressive to do as a one-man performance. entertaining, stable

so happy to see an sf9 performance! and done this well?? damn near brought tears to my eyes. pentor has a bright bright future ahead, and kris was also not to be forgotten!

xing xing is so much fun to watch!! it's obvious he's also having fun, and to be this stable while also being entertaining to look at is a real feat!

I NEED him to do well!! I've missed him so much, the tension in my body any time a solo trainee stepped through that tunnel only for it to not be him was crazy, my sibling is my witness lmao

they put him all by himself, way up there, and I'm crossing all my fingers, and my toes too, that he doesn't let that add to his nerves but I feel like it's inevitable

his nose is still very pretty, he's wearing a mesh turtleneck, he's doing a song that has bodyrolls..... they put him last in the round-up of trainees that still have to go (way at the end of the ep) so let's hope that's a good thing!!

hangyul, baby. I first met you through a survival show, and I was very thankful for it then. seeing as you didn't debut with the unit, I was also glad to see you in px101. but they messed you over, put something in front of you that was the realization of your dream, only for it to be taken away...

the fact that trainees were like "he was in X1!" damn near put me out. I know that you have a shit label, that they're really just looking for viral moment after viral moment to keep the group in the collective memory. but I also know that this might help you to advance once more, get closer to that realization again.

so now that you're back here, and in a context where I'm able to vote for you, please believe that I will. we'll do our damnedest to not let you down, gyul.

I would not recommend this webtoon to my friends. I would not reread this webtoon.

Damn at Ji Oh hitting Eun Woo. Oh my god. Not Ji Oh waiting for Cha Gyul in the rain. Girl, get a grip. I can't believe at the real death of Ji Oh.

I like how the drawings look but like every move is too cliche for me in a way that doesn't touch my heart. But, the chemistry is p saucy as we continue. I do like how Cha Gyul was actually always in love with the girl.

I had to read a summary of the whole story to get the full plot. After the summary, I think it's a great story but while reading, I didn't feel the impact as much. I think this would make an interesting drama tho.

lee seokmin is the cutest funniest dolphin keeper in the universe

first fell in love with the ocean when his family went on a trip to jeju when he was eight

they were walking around the coast and seok absolutely?? was just mesmerized with the way the waves crashed against the ocean,, the beautiful tones of blue in the waves,, his big eyes peering into the water to look at the little fish swimming around ugh so precious

literally begged his parents to let him take swimming lessons as soon as he got home

and that was the start of a beautiful perfect pair: seokmin and the ocean

at first he wanted to be a marine biologist, but after a seventh grade field trip to the aquarium and seeing one of the scuba divers in the tanks with the fish, he changed his mind -- he wanted to do that!!

luckily one of his friends seungkwan, who was a sloth cuddler at the zoo, mentioned that there was an opening for a dolphin keeper position!

seokmin at the interview: “wanna see my seal impression?”

at first he was a little nervous since he had no experience whatsoever,, accidentally tripped on the fish bucket when first meeting the dolphins

but once he met gyul and podo? literal heart eyes

as soon as he saw them,, immediately wanted to get into the pool and swim with them

“seokmin wait you don’t have proper gear on” “it’s fine!! i’m willing to take the risk!!”

can you imagine him in a blue wetsuit, yellow fishing type overalls with a cute lil dolphin patch in the middle!! i’m sad

turns out, seokmin is really good with dolphins the same way he’s great with people!!

podo is absolutely enthralled with seok.. she thinks he’s soooo handsome!! always squeaks when he comes into the pool~

gyul gets a little jealous,, but he doesn’t mind since seok always sneaks him extra squid snacks

they’re his actual children, literally seokmin walking into the pool room: “where are my babies~~”

does demonstrations for elementary school kids!! he teaches them how to “speak gyul and podo’s language” and also gives a presentation on how to reduce plastic waste

honestly really cute, super endearing seeing seok and a bunch of eight year olds squeaking with the dolphins

has a bunch of drawings of him and the dolphins hung up on his fridge back home,, he always gets them in his work mailbox as thank you notes!!

okay but listen,, as great as he is with children and dolphins alike,, seokmin wasn’t necessarily the.. most careful keeper at the zoo..

to be honest, everyone was a little worried at how clumsy seok was,, but they realized how much the dolphins loved him and so they just kinda deal with it

accidentally slipped and fell into the pool while trying to get one of podo’s toys,,,, it’s fine

you, on the other hand, just recently graduated from vet school, and having interned at the zoo for years now, they offered you a job right away

you watched a ton of animal documentaries growing up!! and honestly, going to the zoo was one of your favorite things to do as a kid,,

so it was no surprise that your dream was to work with animals!! but you’ve always had a soft spot for marine life :(

your first encounter with seokmin was super brief, when you had stopped by the break room to buy some coffee,, he was soaked.. bunches of paper towels in his hands,,

poor kid was trying to dry himself with paper towels and so naturally you just offered some help

seok didn’t even notice you come in!! but when he looked over to see whose voice it was,, perhaps his heart skipped a beat or two,,

“i’m okay, don’t worry! it’s just.. i fell into the pool again and i also forgot to do the laundry so we don’t have any towels..” he rambled, his ears burning a shade of tomato red

“i’m sure we have extra towels at the clinic? and i think the others would like it if there wasn’t a huge puddle of water in the break room,,” you giggled, seok shooting you a confused look

“you work at the clinic?” “yeah, i’m the new vet”

and literally seokmin drops his paper towels and palms his forehead bc,, how tf he gonna look so STUPID in front of the new vet

also since when has the new vet been so cute?

“so,, do you still want a towel?” “please... that’d be nice”

and so that’s how seok ends up in your office for the first time, cracking stingray jokes and drying out his hair while you’re sitting on top of your desk, laughing at the very cute but clumsy dolphin keeper

you don’t really see seokmin all that much for a while, since there was a pretty bad infection going around the seals, you dedicated your time to them

but to be honest seokmin can’t get you out of his head,, he keeps thinking about the cute vet that laughs at his jokes

one day seok asks you to come to the dolphin exhibit because gyul isn’t acting like his normal self and he was absolutely worried,, ran straight to your office

turns out poor baby has indigestion :(

the reason? seok tripped when he was feeding them and the whole bucket of herrings fell straight into the pool

you, jaw dropped to the floor: “are you being serious”

seokmin: “yes listen i’m really sorry okay i tried to stop him from eating all of them but he’s just.. too fast”

you can’t help but laugh at how,, silly seokmin is!! literally the kid has a heart of gold but also legs made out of jello

the two of you are just in the pool, gyul is nuzzling you as you rub his belly,, podo is circling seokmin nervously,, he has to calm her down poor baby girl :(

but you figure out the problem, gyul just has to take some meds and go on a strict diet for the next two weeks!!

you offer to stop by everyday to check up on gyul,, in case seok needs help taking care of him or anything

you may or may not… use this.. as an excuse to see seokmin

gyul starts to grow super fond of you,, squeaking and swimming to the edge of the pool every time you walk into the room!!

but podo doesn’t like you bc she thinks you’re too close to her favorite keeper

even if you give her squid snacks,, she won’t eat them unless seok gives them to her

you’re a little bummed by it, but you know not every animal is going to fall in love with you,, it is a little hard though, especially if you’re the one responsible for their health

two weeks pass and gyul is all better, but podo is still a bit aggressive towards you,,

seokmin’s new mission: getting podo to like you!!

him: “have you thought about dressing as a clown? she’d find it funny”

you: “what”

him: “ok i guess we’ll move onto plan b?”

honestly it’s really cute it’s kind of like he’s trying to convince his little sister that his significant other isn’t a bad person

you and seokmin spend the next couple of days,, coming up with a plan in the break room during lunch

the two of you finding out more about each other along the way, sharing your love for the ocean and marine life!!

seokmin finally gets the courage to ask for your number,, the first text you get from him is a photo of him and gyul in the pool :(

honestly?? you squealed into your pillow that night LMAO

you make it routine to send him cute photos of seals and otters,, he sends you penguin memes probably

your coworkers would start to notice,, teasing you while you’re doing paperwork in your office,, nurses “i see you spending time with that cute dolphin keeper,, when’s the wedding?”

they’d tease you even more once they saw how red your cheeks would get,, because honestly, the more time you spent with seokmin, the more you realized that not only is he handsome, but he has the purest heart in the world

even if he is.. a little clumsy.. and forgetful.. he puts the animals before himself and you love that about him!!

but this was work,, there was no place for any sort of relationship here

seokmin on the other hand?? has three heart emojis next to your name on his phone

absolutely smitten with you,, knew you were the one for him when you first got into the pool, the smile on your face when gyul swam up to you,, he thought you shined brighter than the sun (as cheesy as that sounds it’s true)

he really wanted to take you to his favorite beach,, in jeju,, where he first fell in love with the ocean

but he had to ask you on a date first and honestly,, he wasn’t even sure if you felt the same way

feelings aside, the two of you come to the conclusion that you should try,, spending time with podo by yourselves, without seokmin

so for the next few days,, while seokmin was on his lunch break, you’d hop into the pool and hang out with the dolphins for a little bit!!

gyul was so happy to see you again,, but podo distanced herself a bit from you,, staying in the corner of the pool until seokmin came back

until one day,, gyul was in a different pool for training, and it was just you and podo,,

and you figured,, might as well try one more time,, holding out her favorite squid snack

slowly but surely,, podo came to you, taking the squid snack,, even letting you pat her head!!

you were absolutely over the moon, because after months of hostility,, this was the first time podo had ever let you pet her,,

as soon as seok came back from his break,, you threw your arms around his neck,, telling him that the plan worked!! and even though she wasn’t in love with you yet,, this was a start and progress should be celebrated regardless of how big or small

seok’s face is literally tomato red at this point but thank god you can’t see it,,

“we should celebrate after work then”

and you look at him,, his eyes trying to avoid yours in case you reject him,,, and you do it

you peck him quickly on the cheek,, and you’re just like, “yeah, i think we should”

before he can say anything,, you realize what you did and your face turns into a tomato,, your hands flying up to your lips,, like i can’t believe i just kissed him 

but he grins, taking your hands into his, intertwining his fingers with yours,, pressing his lips against your knuckles

“so it’s a date?”

Personality description:

Born bearing the core of the searing sun, Hangyul possesses her warmth, the one that draws people to him. He is all smiles and jovial, kindness and protectiveness tangled together. Hangyul’s human parents are the most optimistic people (to him) and he picked up their behaviors smoothly. Many people have said he exudes cheers, his smiles successfully lift their moods. His parents also taught him to sharpen his looks; from the way he stares at people to the curl of his lips, so that he will look tougher. While he is strong, he is not rough, not like how many people have perceived him to be.

Hangyul is an introvert, who enjoys mingling with people but appreciates his time alone. While he isn’t a chatterbox, he responds to people well and gives feedback when prompted. He is in no way withdrawn, but he has a way to seem melancholic, especially when he’s not talking. He is curious by nature, often can be found poking at things he doesn’t completely understand without considering the risks. Magical Powers:

- As the children of the Sun, Hangyul is made of sunbeam. He glows subtly under the sunlight and he runs warmer than other creatures (and people). But when he’s angry or annoyed, his warmth will turn scorching and he tends to burn (or melt) anything he’s touching. He is also immune to regular fire.

- Hangyul can transforms into fireball and uses that as a transportation method. Since fire weighs less than human, he can travel faster with less energy. He can use his form as a fireball to protect himself.

- He can conjure fire in his palms, leaving small fireballs hanging over his head to light up the rooms. The fire can be used as a mean to protect himself as well, as long as his opponents are not fireproof or immune to fire.

- He’s starting to pick up hypnotism and uses fire as to induce a trance. It’s worked to some human.

Non-magical Powers:

- Hangyul is trained in taekwondo and hapkido. He acquired a black belt after 10 years and he is also trained in fighting using staff, wooden and metal.

- His mother taught him to draw at 5 and since then, he has spent his daytime outdoor, drawing everything from people to birds. His drawings have won him several awards and he’s a good painter as well.

Weaknesses: 

- Sunsprites are the weakest at night. This includes Hangyul, who glows dim at night and grows paler under the moonlight. Fire doesn’t come easily at him during the nights, so he settles on bringing a lighter everywhere he goes.

- Turns out sunsprites are not invulnerable to illness. At 12, Hangyul caught pneumonia that left his lungs scarred. Vigorous exercise will leave Hangyul coughing and hacking, not to mention his wheezing breath.

- His phobia on dogs will leave him rooted in place, frozen and unable to move. If it happens during the day, it will trigger him to burst into tall flame, searing and scorching, which will burn anything near him. If it happens during the nights, he will faint.

Study Style: Hangyul is never a diligent student. While he learns and absorbs lessons very quickly, he mostly spends his time in class snoozing or doodling something on the corner of his book. But he is quite a perfectionist in doing his assignments so he takes a long time to finish one assignment (and ends up submitting the task over the deadline). Once in a while, he will drag himself to the library to do some research, mainly for the subject Science I, Anatomy and physiology, and Astrology, but ends up falling asleep there as well.

Background: 

The Universe is generous.

So generous that when a pair of husband and wife wept for a lost child, it nudged the Sun to an understanding. A small ball of flame floated down to Earth, with a purpose to console the grieving pair. It arrived to the mourning pair’s household in a form of a baby, shining dimly but still unbearably warm. Despite the horror that a fireball could transform into a baby, the pair still took him in.

They named him Lee Hangyul, which was their late child’s name. Exact name aside, they were two different boys. One alive and one buried. They cared for him as if he was their children, borne in the mother’s womb. They were still cautious of him, of course, but that didn’t stop them to give little Hangyul the best childhood a child could possibly want.

Like every other children, he grew up. Hangyul turned into a healthy young man, impossibly kind and soft-hearted, but still fierce altogether. The pair taught him everything they knew and as scholars, they knew about a lot of things. But not of his origin. They didn’t enroll him in a school though, they hired private tutors for that. Safer for their baby boy.

Hangyul knew he wasn’t like the others. He spent the daytime sitting outside, eyes boring to the shining sun without a single fear of being burnt. Hangyul heard voices in his sleep. While he knew that he had his parents, two loving humans who gave him everything, his consciousness whispered that they were not his parents. Not the real one, at least. Hangyul didn’t mind the slightest bit.

So he sat his parents down, asking in a careful manner about him. When was he born, where was he born. It was no surprise at all that his parents said that he came in a form of a fireball. “Oh,” he had said, and proceeded to conjure a small fire in his palm and scaring the shit out of his parents. The usual thing in the Lee household.

One day, his mother came to him with a pamphlet in her hand. “We finally found a school that will probably be good for you,” she had started, offering him the pamphlet. “You will do great and you can be who you really are,” he heard his parents said, the moment he stepped out of their house, alone. He might have cried a little at that. He still promised to call and come home when he can.

Seo Ji Hoon is the WORST!

Ep. 13:

Funny Stuff: Sung Chul’s reaction to the whole mother thing is priceless. He’s like “I don’t have any emotions for this person, how can I marry them?” And they better develop that relationship A TON if they expect me to believe that romance at all. Also, poor meat dad.

Work Etiquette: Did Seo Ji Hoon just never learn about how to act at work? Or is he just ignoring all possible rules in favor of his own enjoyment? Either way, he is an asshole. And literally everyone else just wants to act like their past is behind them. Heck, even Song Hwa has been palatable at work at least.

How to not write a change of heart: These kids got over their mom’s death real fucking fast. Like Bok Nyeo is wonderful and amazing, but I doubt enough to actually make these kids forget the mother who died maybe 4 months ago. It left a sour taste in my mouth (except Hye Gyul, Hye Gyul only messes up when she runs away and scares everyone).

Ep 14:

Funny Stuff: I am HERE for Na Young flirting with the other coworker. I’m here for her getting a happy ending. Also, Ms. Hong finding out that the father in law is rich was amazing.

The Onus of Belief: I made a connection between all of Yoon Song Hwa’s bullshit and her character. Song Hwa puts the responsibility of belief on others. She wants the rest of the world to prove to her that she should believe in them. She wanted Sang Chul to prove his commitment. She wanted Bok Nyeo to prove that she wouldn’t use her blackmail info. It makes me understand her actions a whole lot more, though I still am not a huge fan of her choices.

GATSBY METAPHOR: YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING IDIOT. YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO GATSBY WHEN HE GETS TOO INVOLVED IN HIS MISSION TO GET DAISY? Sorry, Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books from high school, and Ji Hoon’s idolatry of Gatsby is terrifying and also super misguided.

We are drawing ever closer to the finale. Hopefully no one gets amnesia, but at this point, this drama could throw basically anything at me, and I wouldn’t be all that surprised.

Yeo Jin Gu, Lee Se Yeong’s appearance and TVN ‘King Man who became a hot topic in the remake of the movie’ Gwanghae ‘were released.6

The TVN, “King of the King” (played by Kim Seon-deok, Shin Ha-eun / director Hee Won Kim / production studio dragon), scheduled for airing in early 2019 will be released in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, ) Is drawing attention to the first half of 2019 as TVN will keep up with the story of unfolding a vast underline (jingjin) who resembles more than twins to escape from those who are looking for his own life.

TOKE2: Ep. 5+6

Doo Gyul finally gets a chance to be a good person! Yay for character growth!

Ep 5:

Funny Stuff: Like half of this episode is hilarious to me for how overly dramatic it all is. It wasn’t till the end that I could take anything out of Doo Gyul’s mouth seriously. Also, Bok Nyeo continues to be amazing at literally everything she does, which is a treat. Also, the whole porn sequence was wonderful.

Luck in Dramaland: Wow our dad has no luck does he? Everything's coming up not him, so that is dramatic af. And just like most leads, you either have no luck, or all the luck to start, and then it usually evens out by the end of the shows run. Hopefully he gains some luck, because damn the writers are absolutely pummeling this family with all this shit.

Neighbors as Mr. and Mrs. Bennett: Now stick with me on this, the relationship between these two is exactly like the parents in Pride & Prejudice. The mother is a gossip mongerer who cares more about her and her family’s reputation than anything else. The father lives to go to work, read the paper, and berate his wife. Sound familiar? (future Sam here, past Sam didn’t know the future of their relationship. Don’t fault her for this)

Ep 6:

Funny Stuff: not so much . . . mostly a whole lot of characters finding out things I already knew. Though the neighborhood ladies all have dirty minds was pretty spectacular. And I got really excited (embarrassingly so) when we learned anything about Bok Nyeo.

Woo Jae vs. Soo Hyuk (good guy vs bad guy): I know that the good guys in real life are usually already taken, or they are entitled assholes. But the trope gets me every single time. And in this show, for once it isn’t the second lead who is the good guy, while I scream at the screen as the girl chooses the asshole on account of him being hot or tortured or something. It is nice to see it happen the right way for once.

Awareness -> Anxiety -> Indecision: The personality of the dad continues to draw me in with every episode. And I think I figured out a little bit of why. He is super empathetic, so he understands the other point of view, even if the other person has hurt him. It has made him anxious about his decisions. And that has led to his indecision, or maybe just his inability to fight off his anxiety about making the right decision.
