Good byes!
I had known Prashant Bhinaju for more or less 18 years. I still remember back in the day, when there was dial up internet and dial pad, Josna dijju chatting with me on MSN and mentioning that she liked a guy…..Not just any other guy but a bahun, educated guy, that too from Gyaneshwor. I remember getting giddy because that meant wedding bells were near.
Sure enough, they got married in 2003 and I became his Sali AKA Adhi Gharwali. I took this literally because soon after I moved in with them in Texas, when I came here for my undergraduate. That year will now always be very special to me for I saw Bhinaju love my sister so fiercely.I remember him making fun of dijju and me joining along. Third wheeling became fun. That year he turned from my brother in law to the brother that I never had.
In these years since then, Prashant Bhinaju has worn so many hats for me – mentor, friend, Brother-In-Law, Brother or just a listening ear. When Kumud came to California for his internship, Bhinaju and Dijju took hi under their winds. I have only Bhinaju to thank for introducing Kumud to playing golf, drinking scotch and pulling my leg. Both Dijju and Bhinaju showed us how to take things easy and have lot and lots of love and fun in a marriage.
Bhinaju – thank you for loving my sister and nieces so fiercely. Thank you for being the rock for Baba and Mami and the calm, cool, non-judgmental uncle to Sareena, Sravani, Aadhya and Aayush. I only wish you would have been here to give me and Kumud advice when Teenagitis hits Aadhya and Aayush in the next decade.
I am so sorry. None of this makes sense and never will but as I texted you in my last text “Bhinaju- just want to say we love you and we know; we now are on a road to healing. Lots of love.”
