Padmasambhava Legendary 8th century Indian Buddhist mystic who introduced Tantric Buddhism to Tibet and who is credited with establishing the first Buddhist monastery there.
The statue in the picture is said to have been made from life and blessed by him in 8th century Tibet. The original black-and-white photograph was taken by the Queen Mother of Sikkim Gyalyum Kunzang Dechen Tsomo Namgyal. It was later computer enhanced according to the advice of lamas who had seen the original, which was sadly destroyed during the Cultural Revolution which lasted from 1966 to 1976.

Aspiration Of Prayer
An Aspirational Prayer to Behold the Beautiful Face of Khecharī
by Tsarchen Losal Gyatso
Namo Vajra Chandaliye!
tayé gyalwé detong dögar ni
From the dance of bliss-emptiness of limitless conquerors,
sishyi miktrul chiryang charwa lé
Appearing as so many visual illusions of saṃsāra-nirvāṇa;
dengdir khachö palmo yi ong ma
Henceforth, now, glorious Khecharī, Attractive One,
nying né dren no khyüpé tsé gé kyong
With my heartfelt recollection, protect with a joyful loving embrace.
womin shying na lhenkyé gyalyum ma
In Akaniṣṭha is the innate Mother of the conquerors,
nyershyi yul na shyingkyong daki ma
At the twenty-four places — the realm born ḍākinīs,
nordzin khyabpé karma mu tra ma
Pervasive wealth-holders — karmamudrās;
naljor dak gi kyab chok jetsünma
Holy One, be the Refuge Lord of me the yogi.
khyö ni semnyi tongpé rang tsal té
You are the manifestation of my own mind of emptiness,
dorjé drong na é ying bam gyi ngö
The actual VAṂ in the E space of the vajra city;
gyumé ling na jikrung sinmo dang
As a frightful rakṣasī of the island of illusion and
dzum kar yowé langtso sarpa tön
A bright smiling youth — clearly revealed.
dak gi jitar tsal yang pakma khyö
I, not having found anything determined to be
denpar drubpé ngepa ma nyé né
Truly established, although searching, however much;
tröpé dubpé semnyi shyönnu dé
The mind of that person wearied by elaborations,
jödral nak kyi khang bur ngalso ten
Takes rest in the forest shelter free of expression.
ema dani daki ying né shyeng
Ema! Now Ḍākinī, arise from space; from the Śrī Heruka,
heruka pal gyü kyi gyalpo lé
King of Tantras, protect by the truth of the saying;
dorjé tsünmo nyewé nyingpo chok
Accomplishment is through reciting the excellent
lakpé drub ché sungpé denpé kyong
Near-essence mantra of the Vajra Queen.
o di bishé wé té naktrö du
In a secluded forest of Oḍḍiyāna,
drubpé wangchuk dorjé drilbu ba
After protecting the lord of siddhas, Vajra Ghaṇṭapa;
khyü dang tsumbhé dewé jé kyang té
With the bliss of an embrace and kiss,
khajor chok gi rol shying dak kyang kyong
[You] led to the realm of Khechara; likewise also protect me.
ganggé ling du jetsün kusali
From an island in the Ganga, the holy Kushali
ngönsum namkhé ying su tripa dang
Was actually led to the expanse of space,
palden na ro tapa jezung tar
And after, glorious Nāropa was taken; likewise,
dak kyang khachö gewé drong du tri
Lead me also to Khechara, the city of Joyful Ones.
tsa gyü lama chok gi tukjé dang
Through the compassion of the root and lineage [gurus] and the

Superior swift path of the profound, ultimate secret, great Tantra;
naljor dak gi lhaksam depé tü
With the power of a pure unusual attitude, may I the yogi,

5 February 2020- His Majesty The King, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Their Majesties the Gyalyums, His Royal Highness The Gyalsey and members of the Royal Family graced the Consecration of the Druk Wangditse Lhakhang. The Prime Minister and government officials also attended the ceremony, along with the people involved in the renovation works. The rabney for the renovated lhakhang was performed on January 24, with the prayers culminating today, coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey. The sertog was installed on January 21. Druk Wangditse Lhakhang said to have been built in 1715, to serve as the seat of the 8th Druk Desi. It is among the oldest temples in Thimphu, and an important national heritage site. The lhakhang suffered extensive damage due to the September 2011 earthquake. Renovation works commenced in 2013, implemented by the division for conservation of heritage sites of the ministry of home and cultural affairs, with the Royal support and guidance of Her Majesty Gyalyum Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck. The renovation work was based on drawings of the lhakhang by Samuel Davis, who visited Bhutan in 1783, and archaeological findings, to determine the size and style of the original, larger structure which had later been made smaller. Renovation works included enlarging the lhakhang, adding a shakhor, and cleaning and restoring the main Buddha statue, Choeten Deshey-gyed, and wall paintings in the lhakhang. The lhakhang is dedicated to His Majesty The King.

Thus, the great householder Pelgyel2 of the supremely heroic Orshö Orang family requested Zhepai Dorje on behalf of the monks of the Padma Ö Ling retreat center in the sacred place of Nang Ding, which is the aspect of the throat chakra of enjoyment in the great hidden land of Pemakö, for an essential [prayer] that would be suitable for regular use. Accordingly, in the quaint residence of Pema Yangdong Dorje on the virtuous day of the first half of the Monkey month in the Female Water Ox Year (1733) called Incautious,3 the vidyādhara Zhepai Dorje clearly dictated [this prayer] to the scribe Dorje Sangdak.

"As a young boy, He (His Majesty) used to treat his friends as equals, his workers as friends and his elders with the utmost respect. His Majesty being referred as the 'People's King' is mainly because of the fact that he does not think of himself as a King but rather a servant of his people. Nowhere in the world do people have such free access to their leaders, as is the case with Bhutan. Gyalyum also recalled how once on a family trip to the mountains, remembering His Majesty seeing an old man who had no worldly possessions. Even his clothes were threadbare, witnessing this, His Majesty took off the clothes from his own back and gave it to the old man. Her Majesty recalled, how as a small boy the King was saddened by the plight of a dying grasshopper. He put the insect into an empty matchbox and gave it a proper burial. It was a moving scene displayed by one so young. Her Majesty Gyalyum Tshering Pem Wangchuck said, having witnessed such an incident, i was convinced that he was destined for greatness. Compassion is a quality required in all great leaders." - Her Majesty Queen Mother Tshering Pem Wangchuck https://www.facebook.com/bhutaneseroyalfamily/
