Gwynevere singing some Karaoke while Malenia is just staring at her, feeling Jealous and In Love...
(I don't wanna keep drawing Gwynevere but I want More Drawings of her and Malenia Together or Malenevere and her Dad made her wear the "Sunlight 4 Life" Shirt, BTW...)

im today year old when i discover the Princess Guard covenant symbol (DS1) literally has a depiction of Gwynevere that looks just like Marika šŸ˜šŸ˜
Tumblr media
and that's not even the only parallel:
Divine Blessing - Blessing of Marika
all the healing spells
Princess of Sunlight - "the Erdtree was once as warm as the gentle sun"
Twin Princes being implied to be Gwynevere's sons (or grandsons) - DLC final boss
Angelic faith of Lothric (with the Divine Pillars of Light spell that is literally a less damaging version of Light of Miquella incantation) was found by a holy maiden who is also implied to be either Gwynevere's daughter / or granddaughter
im so in love with the idea that they literally just took the one character that was so underdeveloped in Dark Souls (and the butt of the "faith build is viable" joke) & made her THE character of all time with a perfect story from start to finish in Elden Ring (& make faith build ACTUALLY viable too). that's so peak.
(and if you want to broaden it a bit more, there's parallel between Messmer and Halflight Spear of the Church too - a spear-wielding warrior guarding a slumbering princess at the edge of the Abyss, like how Messmer guarded Marika's village - her people's final resting place, that is situated right above Abyss region.
also Messmer - Manus parallel: a man losing someone he loves and so his humanity went wild and he succumbed to the Abyssal darkness. but despite it all, at the core, he's still a viscous, lukewarm lump of gentle humanity, eternally finding something dear that he had lost.)

i wonder what would happen if i did a no talking ng+ run of ds1? since i can level up and will already have a fully upgraded weapon i think it would be more viable and thus more fun to try. idk could be a way to make ds1 more enjoyable tho it would mean making a lot of enemies. my main obstacle would be losing access to the darkmoon covenant by shooting the gwynevere illusion to get the lordvessel and that would make me sad. i could always break the rule just for that by throwing a modifier into the run called "it's my run and i can do whatever i want with it" which would be a neat addition

Hey.. т.т Is this a good time to cry and beg on my knees as an autist that I am? I wanted to ask, are you able to mod Dark Souls 1 like you do with Elden Ring for example? I have a little problem: these two!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two non-respawning invaders appear after destroying illusion of Gwynevere, and these are the only, and I mean the ONLY images of them existing in the entire internet! I've been able to find screenshots of other NPCs without their headwears that can be reliably zoomed in to even figure out their eye color, but not these two. I miiiiiiight assume that Berenike Knight is sharing face data with a sad merchant at Sen's Fortress (like how Quelana and Grana, or Oscar and Ricard, share face data) but I am not so sure about the Balder knight!
I neeeed to see their actual faces. Or if they just use generic placeholder model like Ciaran for example, I also want to know. They are the only ones missing from my list. Even Lautrec's two helpers have a semi-decent look in one (1) obscure video on Youtube. These invaders are THAT underlooked. I am ready to master the modding tools MYSELF to get me references, but EVERY single person or space I asked about how to see face data in DS1 gave me cicada noises reaction. EVERY single ONE. It is so tiring, it feels like there is some unspoken rule in Dark Souls fandom to never help someone who wants to see face data of the minor characters and I've missed the meeting where it was agreed upon fsdhfdhs If you could access face data, or tell me how to do it myself, please ;-; I don't know who else to ask because it is never not just cicada noises.
Hi! Unfortunately I have no idea how to check NPCs in DS1 like I can in ER, modding is very hard for both DS1 and 3 (as in, even just making them work bc they require CE, which is very difficult for me) I guess it'd be easier if I had the map mod (stuff that Zlofsky has for example), which I'm planning to learn one day when I have space on my laptop, not anytime soon though unfortunately. My laptop only has less than 500GB space when empty, and that is completely full now, even tho I wanted that software for over a year. Right now I don't even have time to check it either sadly, this past 2-3 weeks, I only had an hour or so on my laptop, if I even make it to my laptop at the end of the day. I can say more maybe after a few more weeks, I apologize!

Ash. Holy shit. Hidetaka Miyazaki is OBSESSED with big ladies that donā€™t wear shoes and can kick your ass. ESPECIALLY in DS1.
Also if you think that art is horny, hereā€™s her in game model
Tumblr media
Just wanted to show you what that Miyazaki post was talking about bestie xD

Gotta point this out for certain though, SOTE is definitely not the first time Fromsoft was creating the story with the direction of "well we thought it was the final draft, but we then decided to continue it which resulted in a retcon that makes it awkward"! Dark Souls 3 IS this thing too!
Dark Souls 2 pushed very hard for the idea that Drangleic was build on the ruins of countless kingdoms that raised and fell for absurd amount of cycles on the earth where Lordran stood all this time ago! This is why there are so many weapons and sorceries owned by characters from Dark Souls 1 "whose names were long forgotten" and more importantly, this is why "Old Ones" are reincarnations of Gwyn, Nito, Witch of Izalith and Seath! Not the first reincarnations, mind you, as Vendrick also beat them up back in his time! Literally the "How many times do we have to teach you, old man" moment hdhygnm
But, Dark Souls 3 kinda retconned this into a situation where all these magics, objects and legends just mysteriously got washed into Drangleic through all these traveling people, and "names being forgotten" is just a severe case of long distance and lack of communication with their places of origin... all while Anor Londo and Lordran literally still exist this whole time and only very few people had enough braincells to just go there ghthfyh (Aldia to convince Lothric to not be a Melina, Bearer of the Curse for some reasons but they told the world about Lucatiel, Creighton moving in Irithyll and.... fuckin Gilligan to become father to Sulyvahn, it isn't even a joke..)
And it makes the Old Ones + Daughters of Dark really funny because it just makes the original Four Lords and Knuckles Seath still end up in the same place after having somehow traveling away from Lordran despite not being quite themselves anymore. It is like fate. They are always destined to meet again only to be beaten by some human. Red strings of HATE.
And yet, it isn't as if DS2 and DS3 are just two variants that are both sequels to DS1 and you just choose which variant you like more! Dark Souls 3 calls back to Dark Souls 2 too much, DS2 events happened and their aftermath is in DS3 plot. The thing is.. here, Dark Souls 3 existing after all this doesn't make the overall trilogy story bad, but it does make it awkward, and absurd in some places! How everyone "forgotten" people who literally lived overseas and are still remembered there. (And imagine how much more awkward it would be if they DID include Patches in DS2 like they planned to! xD Also more fuel for me to not consider Queen of Lothric to be Gwynevere as to not create a character who ran from her problems twice, from the same problem :p)
I guess my point here is like... Fromsoft just kind of does it, and they might do it again. Dark Souls 2 was developed with the idea in mind that it would be it, every character in it hammers it into your brain, but then Dark Souls 3 happened! And it good that it did, the whole game is a meta commentary on what happens when people don't let the story end! And Elden Ring, by Miyazaki's admission, was created with cropping a lot of lore, plotlines and some characters (like Messmer) from original vision as the game was already too massive... but then they decided to make DLC with those ideas anyways! That likewise created retcons of some ideas that had previously fell into their places very neatly and made stories of Miquella, Malenia, Radahn and Marika flow less conveniently, but! they!! didn't even know at the moment!!! that they'd get to make the DLC!!!
I think they always could just do it again; give their product everything just in case if it flops and sequel/DLC doesn't get made, so the standalone thing feels self-suffucient! Fromsoft just looks like they don't take calculated risks but always act through the prism of "assume it already didn't sell well", and never abandoned this philosophy even while making base Elden Ring! Despite how much their reputation was proceeding them by the time! And honestly, when I understand there is likely pattern, it is hard to be mad at their decisions or how awkward they make the story. Like, yeah, sometimes the "the product made as if it already fropped" and "the surprise sequel/DLC" bits are practically Frankensteined rather than blend harmonically, but that's their thing! It isn't a perfect philosophy of creating their stories, but it is individual, and no company or specific writer could ever be perfect. (I think to truly enjoy someone's unique approach is to accept the sharp, inconvenient bits too rather than trying to "fix" it into perfection, but that's just my perspective on creativity process)

Jumping in to say Dark Souls šŸ™
I'm assuming this is franchise-wise and not DS1 specific so :>
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
Raime / Fume Knight. Imagine turning against your king because you serve the kingdom's best interests and you can sense something is wrong with the queen. Imagine getting defeated by your bestie, who is basically your brother. Imagine leaving and going to another kingdom and then making the same damn mistake the king made but in a mother/son dynamic instead of romantic. Imagine it. You damned fool. You absolute buffoon. I love you.
scrunkly (my ā€œbabyā€, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
Raime. Gwyndolin, who is also #2 on the blorbo list. I don't talk about him much because I'm pretty sure there's a large sect of the fandom that would shank me for using 'him' for him (even though it is what he canonically uses, when he's speaking through Gwynevere, so I mean ??)
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
Raime. I'm gonna make you mad here but YURIA IS MY WIFE AND I'D DIE FOR HER OVER AND OVER AGAIN SHE'S THE FINEST THING EVER AND SHE HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG IN HER LIFE
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I wonā€™t shut up about it for a week)
Raime??? Vilhelm's voice keeps me up at night. In a good way. Sir. Sir. Sir, hurt me.
poor little meow meow (ā€œproblematicā€/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
RAIME??? Hawkwood, you are such a fucking piece of shit, but I love you anyway. I love that you can't let go of your brothers in arms. I love that you're ashamed. I love you I love you I love you.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
?!?!?! RAIME? Seath. I feel like bullying Seath would be so satisfying. DSGDGSDG
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
Not Raime for once. Gwyn. I have so many bad feelings toward this man. I'm so hostile. I'm so angee.

Some more DS1 ranting and thoughts, some of these criticisms arenā€™t really fair since it was basically the first/almost the first of its line
-so many areas just have No Swag. Like yeah Blighttown is terribly designed gameplay wise but it LOOKS and FEELS cool. Undead Burg is such a boring and uninteresting first major area. Places like the painted world or New Londo are almost close to being cool in scenery concept but you either canā€™t see anything or it all just kinda blends into generic stone fortress ruins. The good areas hold the core of the fromsoft charm you see a lot in the other games tho.
-a lot of dud bosses that are just kind of there. Elden ring has the excuse of having over 200 bosses so some had to be bland or uninteresting, but so many might as well be any other monster from a roster of big monsters or bad guys and it wouldnā€™t matter
-Definitely has the bones and structure of the really interesting fromsoft lore style, but still very clearly shallower compared to later titles, a lot of lost potential it feels like.
-it feels like you run into fellow undead more than you do hunters or tarnished, even though elden ring probably has more friendly NPCs comparatively it makes DS1 feel nice. itā€™s a nice feeling.
-lots of bland uninteresting generic fantasy flavor which detracts from the more unique design choices. Elden ring suffered a teeny tiny bit from this with limgrave being the first area, but not enough to be a criticism Iā€™d actually hold against it
-this game is ridden with Straight Man Disorder. Why does every boss woman have to breast boobily across the arena. I like the concept and execution of Gwynevereā€™s whole deal and place in the story if she didnā€™t have the trite ā€œfertility goddess anime implausible chestā€ schtick.

In Dark Souls 1 specifically, there are various types of moss which could either feed you in and of itself or you could use it to feed and later kill either the giant rats or those weird frog/manta ray things, which also drop Green Blossoms too so that's probably a part of their diet as well. Incidentally, it's not clear if Undead even HAVE to eat, considering our character sure as fuck doesn't. I don't know if it's stated anywhere. In the fandom, it's generally accepted that Undead don't have to eat and don't have a sense of taste, but that's mostly just bc thematically it fits and not for any legit reason. Additionally, it's generally accepted (though again I don't recall if it's outright stated, this is more inferred) that Hollows default to a certain routine, probably what comes closest to "having a purpose" as having a purpose is stated to be the main way to stave off natural Hollowing, or going mad while in a Hollow state. Purposeless people, like Siegmeyer in DS1 Hollow seeming nearly immediately, and the same goes for those who lose all hope - though that doesn't quite add up either since there's always that one depressed mf in the hub who does fuck all but still isn't Hollow. Anyway, since most Hollows seem to rely on their routines from when they were sane, seeing as most soldiers and knights still guard stuff/positions and patrol around, one could reasonably assume that there are some hollows that maintain the elevators to a degree. Alternatively, one could assume the elevators are simply of superior make - for all we know, the nameless Smithing God, who is the source of Titanite, made those elevators himself. It's not too strange to think, imo - with the central massive elevator found in Anor Londo and many elevators being the exclusive way to reach important places, items or people, it could even be considered that in Lordran culture elevators are taken really seriously. No I'm not joking. It's kind of how cars are a part of culture in America. The Americans see cars as an expression of freedom, while the people of Lordran maybe see elevators as some sort of metaphor for ascension and a connection with gods - especially if one of said gods was known for making them, not to mention that, again, the big elevator in Anor Londo seems to be the only way to reach key locations like the Mausoleum, the church containing the Painted World as well as the cathedral (?) that serves as illusory Gwynevere's residence, and might have been the real one's residence as well. You could make a very real argument about the cultural significance of elevators in Lordran, so obviously there would be Hollows maintaining them even after they lost their minds completely. Or you could just explain it away with time fuckery, whatever.
I guess the other thing about Dark Souls is. I know this is gonna sound weird. Who maintains those elevators? There's all these elevators with clearly rested metal chains, right, in the... forgotten... realm of the old lords, or whatever the fuck, where everything is in ruins and clearly nobody is maintaining shit. It takes a long time for stone castles to fall to ruin like that, and a lot less time for exposed steel to rust away!
I know this "doesn't matter", but I'm not merely nitpicking realism here. I guess it's like... to me, I'm a conlang-head and shit, I'm algebraic according to @fruityyamenrunner, there's something about this that bothers me very deeply. Not every "unrealistic detail" in fiction bothers me, but some do, and this one does. I don't know exactly what makes the difference.
But Dark Souls' world feels very, it feels very themepark, from what I've seen of it, there's a lot of shit that doesn't track. There's all these knights and shit sitting around in the ruins on these like, high plateaus. The environment is like that for obvious game design reasons: Dark Souls isn't open world, and it's not meant to be, so you have to constrain the player's path, and ruined castles on high plateaus with gaping cliffs next to them provide an environment where such limited paths make sense. I get this and don't disprove of it. But the problem, as I said, is all these wandering knights or whatever sitting around in the ruined castles on high plateaus: what do they eat? Do they forage? There isn't anything to forage. There aren't any animals to hunt. It's just rocks and zombies.
Again, this is the kind of detail that like. I don't need games to answer this, and if a piece of fiction is explicitly going for something more dreamlike I'm even ok with a setup as above. But the way Dark Souls presents itself... I need to at least be able to come up with a plausible idea about what these guys eat. You see?
I don't know. Suspension of disbelief troubles me. Fiction is not natural to me.
