Just saw somebody genuinely recommend the gwenverse series and I realized I'm not sure I ever explained here why I hate it so much, so... Is there an interest in reading me tearing it to shreds?

My thoughts on... (Part 3) Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse 2022 (#1-5)
They ultimately decide to change up their strategy and attack the terminal six on their hometurf. This doesn't go well as none of the Gwen's are able to work together, they all dislike and/or hate each other. And they're just not synced up. Spider-Gwen gets into a fight with Nightbird and is able to knock her mask off revealing to Gwen that she's another variant of her. This variant is a super interesting one as even though she wasn't created by the accident, she still represents a part of Gwen. The part that sees herself more as a villain than a hero, and ultimately this variant has accepted her role as the villain. This once again shows how each part of Gwen needs each other and what happens if she ignores certain parts of herself. Eventually Nightbird and the terminal six manages to escape. The Gwenvengers once again regroup and learn of the final Gwen variant that is roaming around in the timeline. Gwen Jones aka Captain Marvel. Gwen Jones is pretty similar to Spider-Gwen, she struggles to balance her life as Gwen and her life as Captain Marvel. She always tries to do the right thing and she's even loved the by the people. However that soon would change, as she is fighting against Yon-Rogg both the terminal six (might be good to point out that at this point they're the terminal two) and the Gwenvengers arrive. A fight breaks out and Captain Marvel tries to stop the Gwenvengers as they're indirectly hurting civilians. Nightbird is able to take down Captain Marvel and reveals the truth to her. Gwen Jones was a clone body fused together with the essence of Mar-Vell. She was sent by the Kree to earth not to save it but to destroy it. Upon realizing this her powers grow unstable and the supreme inteligence realizes that she is about to turn on them. So they overload the source of her power, the nega bands. Unable to contain so much power she flies up to the sky, filled with guilt and the knowledge that there is always more bad than good. And then she dies as her body explodes and all of the energy is set free. The Gwenvengers escape through a portal but Spider-Gwen realizes what just happenend. This was the event that caused her universe to become an enhanced anti-hero police state. Everything they did up until that point just further helped shape that reality. The mechs that the police use to defeat heroes were built by the company Stark and Osborn ran, the hate for heroes came from the explosion. Despite all their efforts it seems that Gwen's reality as she knows it is gone. Spider-Zero tells them that they have one more chance, stop Finale at the end of time and revert everything.
And so they travel to the end of time to try and put a stop to Finale and her plan. However the fight turns out as all of their other ones. They still can't work together and its costing them everything. As Spider-Gwen lies defeated on the floor she comes to a realization. Everywhere she goes, she gets reminded of her guilt. Reminded as to what happened to Peter, the things she did, the things she wanted to avoid but couldn't. She wanted to avoid the guilt that had been haunting her, try to hold everything together as best as she can. She doesn't want people that people want to be her because of all those reasons. Because in the end, wanting to be her is also what got Peter killed. And that's where the source of her self hatred came from, guilt. As she points this out to the others, they all start to realize they going through the same. Thorgwen goes through the guilt of being preferred by Odin even thought she is not his true child and that it caused Loki to go mad. Gwen Rogers feels guilt for taking Samantha Wilson's mantle and legacy causing people to forget about her. Gwen Howlett feels guilt for all the terrible things she has done. Toni Stacy feels guilt for driving appart the two people she considered to be her parents. Nightbird feels guilt for knowing that even though the goblin gas made her evil, those thoughts were always there all along and the gas just let it out. Guilt also destroyed Gwen Jones as she felt guilty for being sent to destroy the planet she had grown to love. Upon realizing this they are finally able to forgive themselves and each other for what they've done. It's a super powerful character moment for Gwen. Yes we've seen her deal with her guilt and try to overcome it before. But we've never seen her actually forgive herself, despite overcoming most of the guilt she felt it always lingered in the back of her mind. And now for the first time she is able to forgive not only herself but all parts of herself. She realizes she needs every part of herself and that every part of her has to work together so she can become the best possible version of herself that she can be. And that's what happens. Every variant of Gwen realizes this and they are finally able to work together as one. All parts that make up Gwen finally accept each other and become stronger because of it. They defeat finale but they are too late. Time is collapsing in on itself and soon the entire multiverse will be gone. They find a way to travel back to the point before Finale uses the machine. However they only have enough power to send through one person. All the Gwen variants realize it has to be Spider-Gwen. She's the original and the only one left with a future. The rest of them have nothing to go back to. It's a super emotional moment and extremely heartbreaking. These variants were like sisters to her and now she's losing them. She eventually goes back and defeats Finale but once again time collapses in on itself. Gwen sees fragmented pieces of the multiverse in front of her eyes and decides to do the impossible. She holds together the entire multiverse with her webs and manages to save it. Everything is restored and it is even hinted at that all of the variants now have their own universe. After this things return to normal and Gwen is better than ever before. She appreciates the people around her no matter how annoying they can get and most importantly she appreciates and likes herself. And that's how this story ends. Her swinging of as she monologues about how she finally likes herself. It's a super strong and emotional moment and it really made me tear up as it showed how much Gwen has grown as a person and character over the years.
Gwenverse was an absolute blast to read and honestly i wouldn't mind them doing a 2nd Gwenverse or giving her variants their own stories! All of her variants are such interesting characters and i love how they each represent a part of Gwen and that she has to learn to accept all of those parts as the things that make up her as a person. It's a very clever way to further explore her character while giving us fresh takes on the character and delving into what makes Gwen Stacy, Gwen Stacy. I really loved the artstyle in this too and all the designs for her variants were so so good. I loved how each design incorporated her iconic hood or headband in one way or another. This story also managed to further progress Gwen's character as she finally is able to forgive herself. It's such an emotional moment and seeing her finally like herself after everything is such an amazing thing to see. Her saying goodbye to all of her variants and remembering them was incredibly emotional too and i did tear up a few times while reading the final issue of this mini event. All by all amazing stuff that is just an amazing read start to finish!

Sambucky / Samsteve artist.
You can do the funniest thing in the world right now. We can have the and that's how I was born meme too with these two cuties Sam 13- a literal clone of Sam and Bucky. And Samantha wilson which c'mon if this aint a Samsteve child I dont know what is. (Yes I know her actual history comic book fans. this is a joke). Both from the gwenverse comics. Also can I say I find super hilarious that Sam wilson has no children in any AU comics with any love interest. But a clone that shares the same DNA with Bucky.

hey do you know of a good spider gwen reading order?
HOLD ON I HAVE A READING GUIDE. I'LL DM IT TO YOU
#gwail#there are very few spider-gwen comics and they're all in chronological order so its not hard to be caught up#<- reading gwenverse and shadow clones is not necessary but thats me being biased#ghost-spider 2019 also isn't that good#but the Source Source material (latour rodriguez run) is the best one#which is to say it's also not fantastic but. its a comic run what do you expect#anyways! the original run & gwenom vs carnage are the best ones in my very biased personal opinion

My thoughts on... (Part 2) Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse 2022 (#1-5)
Gwen and Thorgwen make their way to Captain America and it's immediatly clear what parts of Gwen she represent. She's the more shy aspects of Gwen and the parts of her that want to do good no matter what and the parts of her who look up to the people who do good. It's really fun to see the dynamics between the different Gwen's and how they react to the world around them, Thorgwen being fascinated by all the new things in 1951 was pretty fun to see. Gwen Roger's backstory was also pretty fascinating. She looked up to Samantha Wilson while growing up in a orphanage and devoted her studies to recreating the super soldier serum, which she did succesfully. She became the new Captain America and named herself after the man who was behind the Captain America comics on earth-65, Steve Rogers. The conversations between the Gwens goes smoothly until Thorgwen notices that a pinup calendar of Gwen Rogers was made. Rogers is infuriated, thinking the other Gwen's are behind it and a fight between Thorgwen and Captain America breaks out. Captain America wins and escapes, Thorgwen and Gwen leave and regroup to track her down. Which wasn't hard to do as the adress of the company who made the calender was printed on the bottom of it. And there they learn of a new Gwen variant.
As Gwen Rogers arrives at the company that made the calender she is greeted by a new variant. Gwen Howlett aka Wolverine (or Wolvergwen, yes the puns keep on coming and to be honest i enjoy them). It's revealed that Wolverine did the calendar shoot to take revenge on Gwen Rogers. Wolverine was forced to undergo experiments that made her the way she is while Captain America willingly chose so. According to Wolverine this starts and escalates superhuman soldier experiments and that doesn't sit right with her (probably for a lot of reasons). It's super interesting to see these type of conflicts between the Gwen's and how her life would turn out if she had certain parts of there not be there. Wolverine represents the part of Gwen that sometimes has a short temper, the part of her that wants to put an end to her enemies for good. Except Gwen has an other part of her telling it's wrong and to not do that, while Wolverine doesn't. Anyways, as the situation between Captain America and Wolverine escalates the other Gwen's arrive. They try to defuse the situation but then the terminal six arrive to take down all the Gwen's. A big fight breaks out and things get ugly fast. Wolverine is super agressive and is about to kill one of the villains, luckily Gwen portals all of her variants out in time before it happens. Their big fight had unintended concequences however. Turns out both Osborn and Stark where there as kids and Osborn got hurt badly. This causes them to later on create a company together with a 3rd person, Toni Stacy. And so the Gwenvengers have a new date and location to go to. Las Vegas 1983. Something interest to point out is that Wolverine stays on the team because she wants to remind Captain America of how she could've turned out to be. It's such an interesting and tragic thing really and it stood out to me a lot. In Las Vegas they head to a big tech convention and invent cosplay (yes you heard that right, due to them being the only ones in superhero costumes it makes them stand out and the idea is born). As they enter the expo they quickly see Osborn and Stark give a presentation as they reveal their new exo suit, worn by Toni Stacy aka Iron Gwen. This version of Gwen is the part of her that's a huge nerd, she loves anime and manga and the name of her suit is also a callback to one of Gwen's favorite anime. It was refreshing to see the more lighthearted and nerdy part of Gwen, it has been briefly touched upon before but it's cool to finally see it be fully explored. The Gwenvengers don't have much time before the terminal six arrive, they mess with Iron Gwen's suit causing it to malfunction and create chaos. Another big fight breaks out, as Osborn sees Wolverine he is reminded that she was the one who hurt him all those years back. This causes him to turn into the goblin making the timeline even more messier and the fight even crazier. Iron Gwen manages to defeat the goblin but by doing so she gets shunned by Stark causing her to join the Gwenvengers and wanting to get out of there asap. As they regroup there is a big sense of defeat, all of the variants have lost so much. And even if they win, they don't really have a future or past to go back to. Which does raise the question as what will happen to them. It's pretty interesting because each variant experiences the same thing the original earth-65 Gwen experience, losing everything they've built. It's interesting to see all the similarities they share, depsite all being super different parts that make up Gwen as a whole.
