Watching the episode again and I just cannot get over how well done it all is! One of the things I focused on this time was the way they managed to show us the state of TK and Carlos' relationship. We haven't really checked in with them one on one since episode 5, and I think there's so much here that can give us insight into what has been going on since then:

We see that the box is still in use! Since we're told in this episode that Gabriel died a year and a half ago, that means that about 6 months have passed and Carlos is still using the box! This shows clearly that he's been making serious efforts to be more present. I noticed some people hypothesizing that the fact that his phone was outside of the box was meant to show he was struggling to be fully present, and that's definitely a valid interpretation and maybe it is what they were going for...but to me, it seemed like the phone was outside of the box just because it was being charged. Carlos still left the phone next to the box when he went to bed and I think that indicates some major effort!

However, the presence of the box a whole 6 months later also indicates to me that they ARE still struggling. Things aren't 100% fixed. If they were, I don't think the box would really be necessary anymore.

Carlos wakes up on his day off and the first thing he does is reach for his husband. When he realizes TK isn't there, Carlos goes to find him, expresses his desire to spend the morning of their shared day off sleeping in together, and then kisses his cheek and sits on the couch next to him. TK is not remotely surprised by these behaviors. To me, this shows that there is not constant tension between them. They are loving and affectionate with each other. They look forward to spending time together and make efforts to do so.

When Carlos announces that he wanted them to sleep in on their shared day off, he makes it seem like such a thing is a rarity. Add to that the fact that he worked so late the night before that TK wasn't sure when he got home, and it's clear that they aren't getting to spend nearly as much time together as they'd like. While it doesn't seem like this is some dire situation, it certainly may be contributing to remaining issues that they are having.

The way Carlos talks about their counseling makes it sound like they are still going, which I think is a really good thing because it again shows major effort being made in their relationship!

All these things perfectly set the scene for the conflict in this episode, showing clearly that these two love each other, they're putting real work into their relationship, but they're still struggling. Under those circumstances, when you add in a major crisis and upheaval like the Jonah situation, it's inevitable that things aren't going to go smoothly. However, their love and soulmatism is still shining through, and we know they're going to make it and come out the other side stronger than ever!

As soon as he sees Tommy walk through the door, he feels heat and want and desire mixed with affection and endearment consume him. Because this man – this gorgeous, cool, interesting man, with the most adorable cleft, and so smooth and charming he makes Buck turn into a blushing blubbering mess – this man is walking in, still in his turnout gear, completely covered in soot and ash, hands held up apologetically, a remorseful, worried look on his face. Tommy seems to have rushed here straight after work, clearly not even stopping by the station to change or shower, or even wipe his face, goddammit. And he looks hot. Buck’s seen firefighters look like this, hell, he looked like this himself many times, but there’s something about Tommy, in his gear, all dirty and disheveled, and here – something about this image takes Buck’s breath away, and he can’t help the smile spreading across his face. 

“Sorry I’m late.” Tommy apologizes, as if him being here at all, instead of passing out in bed after a long, exhausting shift, wasn’t making a thousand butterflies come to life in Buck’s stomach. “That fire was a beast.” he adds, and Buck-

Buck can only respond with a simple “So are you,” and crash his lips against Tommy’s. Because Tommy is. God, he’s such a beast.

Caught up with the 9-1-1 finale after watching some live-blogging on tumblr and I feel like some things should be addressed.

I saw some comments about how having Latinos being Cartel members was racist because it reinforces stereotypes. 9-1-1 also has Eddie and his family, who have been main/side characters for multiple seasons, who are positive complex characters, whereas the Cartel was like 1.5 episodes. Complex, wide ranging representation is important and in this instance I think the 6 seasons of Eddie and family far outweighs the 30-60 min of Cartel.

"Gerrard was like the father I had" "I wasn't close to my father" are SUPER IMPORTANT LINES FOR TOMMY. It shows that he grew up in a household that wouldn't/doesn't accept his sexuality, that his past behavior is predicated on existing in various forms of Gerrard's toxic environment his whole life. That is until the Winds of Change in the form of Chimney and Hen started to blow in.

Imho, Tommy wasn't nullifying Buck's trauma by making the daddy joke. Putting aside the argument that Queer people shouldn't have to be sanitized to be represented on TV, Tommy could have just read the room and thought Evan needed a little break from the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE his whole day had been consisting of. I mean if I went on the emotional rollercoaster that Buck did in one day, you better bet I would appreciate my super hot pilot boyfriend making some jokes and giving me some space to just breath.

Honestly, the whole live blogging experience on Tumblr was really disappointing. I won't be doing that again. Instead I'll just watch the show by myself, analyze it by my nerdy-self and then come here to post and hope some fellow nerds like it. Somehow I spent 30+ years of my life in positive fan culture land and I really wish I never ventured out of it.

7x06 is officially one of my favorite episodes ever and it's not just because it made me cry, but it's also because this episode represents everything Madney has had to fight through in order for this moment to be possible.

From the very start of the show, Chimney has always been someone who fights for everyone except himself. Most notably in season 5, he did everything he could to make sure Maddie was safe, and he would have let her go in the end if that was what she wanted. Part of what makes Madney The Ship of All Time is that they always fight to get back to each other, and I absolutely loved the fact that Maddie was the one to ultimately propose, because Chimney needed that. It was also important for Maddie, choosing to do something that didn't end well the first time because she knows she finally found the person she's meant to be with.

In this episode, we see Chimney desperate to get back to Maddie even if he can't even remember her name, and we see him reliving everything traumatic that has happened to him. Bringing Doug back for this was genuis because he represents that trauma, as well as something that is standing between him and Maddie. Whether it be Doug himself, or depression, or in this case, amnesia, Maddie and Chimney not only have had to learn to fight for each other, but they had to learn to fight for themselves. Enter Kevin, and we see Chimney letting go of his guilt and fighting for himself, fighting to get home. Because Chimney is worthy of love and he knows without a doubt that Maddie loves him, despite everything hallucination Doug tried to tell him.

Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a sweet wedding episode where nothing goes wrong, but I think that this episode was perfect for Madney. After everything they've gone through both individually and as a couple, this was a great way to bring it all back and say "Hey, they survived all of this, not only because they love each other but also beacuse they've learned to love themselves." and I think that is beautiful.

I've seen some people say they feel Madney didn't have enough screentime and that's completely fair, but to me personally it's not about screentime, it's about the story they're trying to tell. I think they've told a damn good one!

Yeah because it was a short season where they had to cram everything in? The second half of the season wasn't about Buck? It was about planting the seed of their relationship and then seeing how the GA reacted? It's about continuing to show them settle into something domestic and real once bi Buck and Tommy were taken well? And then giving the other characters room for their main storylines? Bobby dealing with Amir and the cartel and his house exploding? Hen dealing with Mara and Ortiz and her family? Eddie cheating on his girlfriend with a doppelganger of his dead wife because he hasn't gotten over that trauma yet?

If you want more Tommy next season, where he has more room to develop and interact with the other characters well why didn't you just say so?

She could have still been a reporter we saw once in a while! She could have been a great arc for Buck to fully realize that their breakup was meant to happen for him to find a great partner. She could have popped on the news while Tommy was sitting on Buck's couch and he would have felt him tense up and would have asked what this was about. Buck would have willingly shared the information and would have said good things about her and how she was a pivotal point in his life, and Tommy would beam at his boyfriend showing emotional maturity and would make a funny comment on how he can understand Buck's attraction. Then Tommy would say something along the lines of he had applied to be the news channel's helicopter flyer and Buck went wide-eyed; "You're saying we could have met when I saved her from that crash??" And he'd elaborate on how sad it would have been to have met him before knowing he was bisexual and that he most likely wouldn't have batted an eye his way for longer than a quick glance. And they'd hug and Taylor would have, yet again, been a good token character in Buck's life!

Raise your hand if you think Taylor Kelly deserved to exist within the narrative as an independent party and the choice to write her out of the show almost entirely after her breakup with Buck was a maybe understandable but still extremely unfortunate decision!!

is that something people are doing?? I literally haven't noticed a Tommy love fest going on. It would be annoying if people were just loving on tommy in the eddie/ryan tags if those posts had nothing to do with him.

but like it doesn't give me that vibe from what I've seen 🤷‍���️
