The grandpas of Brahmana Samooham once lived under a roof whose door opened right to the Nadapanthal of the holiest, Guruvayoorappan's own temple.

They had a exotic, old-fashioned house for their own with a dining hall for the visitors and a pool behind it. The dining hall was made with the finest of teak wood from Athirappilly and other parts of the great Western Ghats, which ringed with heritage and purity. The pool always had green, luscious water in all times of the year. One could see the shining promontory of the Kodimaram from the stone paved steps of the pool.

But they're no more.

When I visited the place a while ago, I realized that the place was closed for 'renovation' and the old men and women moved to a new place nearby, leaving behind hundreds of years of history.

After catching up with the Lord, I strolled around, to find the way to the new place, after wandering through the endless streets of shops which sold necklaces, bangles, paintings, sculptures, holy bracelets, statues, flowers, oil, camphor, and frankincense.

There were also clairvoyants and fortune-tellers, littering along the pathways, sometimes crying out to attract the attention of the passerby.

Finally, I found the new place.

The people hadn't changed at all, thankfully.

They treated me with the widest of smiles and invited me for lunch.

Lunch was simply elegant. Red sortex rice with delicious sambhar, hot cabbage, yellow banana chips, sweet yoghurt and crisp pappadoms.

The person who donated for the day's lunch was displayed on the white board near their statue of Guruvayoorappan.

Like everyone else, I too lined up behind the short queue of people and donated a fine amount of money .

It's unbelievable how this place runs only on donations.

Maybe it's because it's considered to bring good fortune upon the one who sends them money.

Or the unseen acts of Lord Guruvayoorappan himself.
