A 1920-1930-as évekre már nemzetközi hírnévre tett szert, és amikor 1937-ben III. Viktor Emánuel olasz király Magyarországra látogatott, a székesfehérvári bankett megrendezésével Gundel Károlyt bízta meg a kormány.
Két évvel később a New York-i világkiállítás magyar pavilonjának hivatalos étterme a Gundel volt, és a The New York Times elismerően így írt: „A Gundel-vendéglő nagyobb, jobb hírverést biztosít Budapest számára, mint egy hajórakomány turista-prospektus.”

Telex: Búcsúzik a diszkoszvetős Sport szelet (x)

Franz Xaver Gruber (1801-1862) was an Austrian painter who painted genre paintings and floral still life
Tumblr media
Franz Xaver Gruber was accepted to the Vienna Academy at the age of 15. As early as 1822, he received the Gundel Prize for flower painting, after which he worked as a drawing teacher at the institute. To continue his botanical education, Gruber also attended lectures by Jacquin.

From 1835, Gruber was a professor at the Manufacturing School and also founded his own private elementary drawing school. Between 1839 and 1859, he created a watercolor collection of camellias for Prince Metternich, and for Emperor Ferdinand I he painted numerous orchids and various types of palms in watercolor. The artist used plants from the Schönbrunn Palm House as his subjects. Later, Gruber transferred his plant images to landscapes and sometimes added animals to his canvases.

The artist's still life "Large Thistle with Poppies and Butterflies" was a success at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1855, so Gruber made several versions of it. This is where his nickname Distelgruber comes from. His brother Karl Franz Gruber (1803–1845) and sister Katharina, who married Havelek (1807–1859), were also artists.Painting: “Blumenstück” and details of the painting, 1838. Belvedere Museum, Vienna.
