I really love this other ongoing bit of Allellujah and Hallellujah arguing in the middle of battle while Marie and Soma just have to put up with it

I'm always fascinated when someone at the club rants about "how they just invented T'au to cash on them anime weebs", completly oblivious to the time and culture of their creation. So T'au came out first in 2001, and were obviously conceptualized some years prior, which puts them into the late 90s in their original design. This is slowly hitting "the majority of the populance has no relevant internet access whatsoever" levels of "barbaric analog ages".
So imagine where GW sits in the late 90s - its a small studio somewhere in England barely coming to touch with the first elements of the internet, with the most dominant medium being television which... is not really about "exotic" shows from the other end of the world? Those get ported over when they have proven to be a hit in their own country mostly.
And without the internet as we know it today, the anime community just... did not exist. You have to understand that the whole concept of online anime culture centred around piracy, fansubs, fanart, and the creation of the term "weeabo" was a mid-to-late 00s thing, and it took almost another decade before "weeb" was somewhat reclaimed and no longer an online-slur.
There was a whole generation that grew up with (often horribly localized) japanese shows on TV (Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon) which came over with some delay to their release in Japan. By the time this generation came to congregate into online spaces and form any sort of fan-identity and culture, the T'au and their battlesuits had already been a design over a decade old.
"But wait isn't Gundam from the 70s"? Yes, that is totally correct. However, this is the one glaring mistake people make: you cannot compare modern day media content circulation around the globe to the analog ages. Those of us who remember these barbaric analog times know how it was: you just did not know stuff existed. If it was not in the newspaper or on the telly, it might as well not exist unless you knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy.
Sure, the Internet was slowly becoming a thing that found widespread use, but it would still take a while - not to mention the technical limitations. No streaming episodes. You start the download (if you can find someone who hosted the file of a series you had to know even existed first) somewhere around lunch, to hopefully get something to watch in the afternoon. Oh and also that blocked the household's phone-line and if the download cancelled for whatever reason then it was back to square one. Under such conditions, the online community we know today could simply not exist, as the alternative was importing stuff from the other end of the world for quite the money, or hoping a really shoddy localized VCR-tape ended up at your Blockbuster-equivalent.
Of course there was anime before that time, even those regarded absolute classics in the west, but those mostly achieved that rank over here in retrospective. When in the late 00s people wanted to watch stuff and had the ability to do so they shared what was considered "the classics" first (shared to the best of their ability with one episode cut into 5 parts on youtube with sometimes very questionable subtitles).
So even if we assume there was someone at GW in the 90s who was a total "proto-weeb" and Gudam-fan, there was literally no reason to "make knock-off Gundams" because the miniscule western wargaming audience SIMPLY DID NOT KNOW THE STUFF.
You can't make a marketing ploy to reference something your average consumers have never heard off. If anything, the creation of the T'au as a robotic-centred faction was inevitable: they needed a design that could hold their own in the setting, but Necrons hogged the full-robot niche, Imperials were weird cyborgs, Orks the "madman-scrap-tech", and Nids the "biotech". The only thing left here was "not full robot but also very clean and efficient" - and just like that, the Battlesuits and Drones were born.
It was only in later years when the Internet had come into full swing where they decided to go full-suit with releases such as the Riptide, but if we talk about the OG design of T'au and the first decade? Nothing to do with anime or "fishing for weebs". The fish would not be coming to that spot for almost a decade, and it would take a bit more before their numbers were plentyful enough to make it worth casting a line out.

Why The Witch From Mercury is Important to Me
Tumblr media
This will be a long, somewhat rambling and mostly personal thread. It's not about the show's quality or any issues I had about it (and YES, the show is flawed and has issues), but about why G-Witch's characters and themes were important to me and I think many others. Most of this I've already shared to a degree, but I wanted to expand my original thoughts, and put them all into one post.
I've been a Gundam fan for over 20 years, I got into the series with Wing on Toonami and have watched the vast majority of the animated series. As a woman, I longed for the day Gundam would have a female main character in the spotlight of a major show, but honestly at some point I'd given up on it. I just thought that if they hadn't done it by now, they never would.
Then, last March, they released this short 30 second trailer revealing The Witch From Mercury, and showing off Suletta and Aerial, and I was ecstatic! Finally, a female MC in a Gundam series, I was so excited for a new Gundam series for the first time since 00! I watched that short clip countless times over the months in anticipation of the series airing, I even grew addicted to the little song that plays during it.
youtube
Over time, the characters and key art were revealed and I saw some people float the idea that maybe Suletta and Miorine would be love interests. I didn't pay it any mind at the time. I was sure they'd milk their relationship for bait along the way, but there was no way they'd commit to Gundam's first female MC being gay. Even after the first episode aired I was still skeptical: There was the bait I was expecting, they're not seriously going to go through with it though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here we are, almost 10 months after G-Witch started airing, and Suletta & Miorine are married. It not only wasn't bait, but they committed to it in a way I never would have imagined coming from a franchise I loved like Gundam. It was done with care and respect for the characters, it didn't feel like it was exploitative or added just for fanservice, but was a very real relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll admit, I was initially among those disappointed we didn't see a kiss or the wedding at the end, but my greatest fear was the ending would be as ambiguous as possible, or even worse, walk back what we'd seen, so as not to offend people. Instead we got the sister-in-law line, the matching wedding rings, how close they were and they way they looked at each other with love and talking about going home together. We didn't see them kiss or see the wedding, but we got to see them married, and I think that's incredible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a gay woman, and a Gundam fan of over 20 years, Suletta is an immensely important character to me. Suletta and Miorine's relationship, and it being a central focus of the story, is immensely important to me. They're things I dreamed of having in Gundam, but never really thought would ever happen. I've been so happy about them for a long time now, but these last two days I've been so unbelievably happy that I was given their story. I love them so much and I'm never going to forget these two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this ties into why I think G-Witch has been important to so many people, regardless of how they feel about it's quality, because of it's representation and themes. Suletta, the main character of the show, is a queer, neurodivergent, disabled woman of color. She was well written, and she got to have a happy ending married to the woman she loves, where she's thriving and happy despite her mobility. She's not treated with pity or remorse, and she's still pursuing her dreams of making a school.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And not just Suletta, there were so many characters belonging to different minority groups that got strong representation and happy, satisfying endings. If you're a woman, if you're queer, if you're a POC, if you're any sort of ND, if you're disabled, The Witch From Mercury not only gave you good representation, but also said you're deserving of love, empathy and happiness.
With regard to it's themes, I absolutely love how G-Witch stressed love, empathy, compassion, acceptance and forgiveness over hate, vengeance, punishment and karma. Suletta and Miorine made many mistakes during their journey that they could never take back, but they accepted each other, including their mistakes, and resolved to move on together and makes amends for them if possible. Suletta never got mad at Miorine, Prospera or Eri for the things they did to her and she never blamed them, all she did was understand and accept why they did the things they did, and move forward with her love for them. She accepts the people she loves, mistakes and all, because of her unrelenting love and compassion for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even Prospera, the main antagonist, ultimately rejected revenge for the sake of saving her daughter. She was a less than stellar parent to Suletta, and her actions lead to a heavy death toll, but ultimately Suletta accepted her and her actions to save Eri. And rather than go for an easy karmic death, she was allowed to have a happy ending: Eri was saved, and she's living a peaceful life with her family. A life that was robbed from her 24 years prior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And ultimately, those themes are why we had an ending where literally no one died, and nearly every character got to have a happy ending. Gundam has always said that violence is bad, but The Witch From Mercury was the first to say "Alright, then we'll solve the problem without violence." We got a big magic spell that was a Gundam Pride Parade in space, and combined with Miorine's actions, events were resolved peacefully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's why G-Witch is important to me. It gave me and many others representation in ways you almost never get from a major franchise like Gundam, and without feeling like it was doing it to just check boxes off on some executive's diversity list. It stressed themes of love, empathy and acceptance and rejected hate, revenge, karma and even death. And I think that's incredibly important in this day and age. Representation Matters. Love Matters.
I've been very emotional over this show the last two days because I've been loving it for a while now, and while I'm sad to see it end, I'm so grateful that it happened, flaws and all. I've been crying on and off since the last episode ended and I've had trouble sleeping, but I've been so unbelievably happy over what this one show did and how much it's meant to me. The characters may not be real, but the happiness Suletta & Miorine have brought me is very much real.
For me; Suletta, Miorine, and The Witch From Mercury were truly a blessing.

One of my moots hasn't watched Gundam 00 so spoiler warning below cut, instead have some cool Avalanche Exia fanart:
Tumblr media
(Final spoiler warning. Also source right here)
I love how Gundam 00 poses that even after we fix the problem of infighting between one another the consequences will still be there.
The ELS doesn't understand violence against the members of the same species, they see that Humanity shoots lasers at things and think:
"oh so that's how humans communicate, we'll do that too so that they know we're friendly :>"
Like the idea that someone's first instinct upon seeing a different, intelligent, species is violence is so foreign to them that they don't even consider it.
But to us violence even against one another is something we struggle with, I can't even imagine what we would do when faced with a different intelligent species.
Like it's pivotal that the ELS knows that humans are on the same level as them due to the quantum brain waves, and so they assume that we are intelligent enough to not harm other intelligent beings.
And the solution to this only serves to cement the point of 00:
Understanding.
If Gundam was about "robot cool" the solution wouldn't be talking it out, but that's what it was.
ELS wanted to understand and humanity wanted to be understood.

"I just don't have any idea who it could be," she confesses. "All the people I've met in Celestial Being...I can't imagine a single one of them turning their backs on us like that. Not for anything in the world." "I can."
chapter 18 is up! a brief respite, but there's still plenty of work to be done.

Tumblr media
Whoops, its been like... one, two, three... six kits since I’ve done a photo shoot to share.  My bad, I get lazy when life... happens.  Anyway its finally time for Aerial’s upgraded form!  The Aerial! ...but rebuilt!  It is mildly funny to me that they decided to go with no actual new name addition, its just... Rebuild... we rebuilt it after it got beat up.  But we rebuilt it better!  Cuz Aerial wasn’t OP enough!
Another great G-Witch kit.  Every one I’ve made (four so far) has been solid as all heck, and the show’s designs are nice and varied.  It felt like when the rebuild form finally got shown that people immediately went into the usual “which is better!?” fit, and I of course don’t think either one is better overall.  I do like Rebuild’s shield better though, it feels far more solid, like its one piece in shield mode, which a shield aught to be.
I do wish it didn’t lose the red feet... what is it with the more “futuristic” looking designs leaning so hard into the color blue?  I blame 00 for this.  And you know I got that mirasoul unit for base Aerial.  I’m sure most people posed the rebuild with its hand down on the ground for recreating that scene, so I tried being a little different with the arm up before coming down.  Also anyone else feel like the reason Rebuild’s backpack looks like that is cuz of the mirasoul backpack?  I like to imagine that was why they gave it that in universe.
Weirdly a bunch of my gundam kits lately have had X shaped silhouettes... even though only two of them are actually the X gundam.  More pics under the cut!

Hello! I wanted to thank you for that Setsuna post from before. There was some info I have no access to (due to not having 'guidebooks' and such); and also I loved your headcanons for him. So, yeah, now I an the one who wants to see more of your Setsuna headcanons, and I'd be really happy if you shared your 'more specific ones.'
Aah, thank you so much, aylynn, that means so much coming from you, as I trust you with knowing 00 so well! Hopefully I can share more of the side materials once I get a scanner…
Anyway, I apologize in advance if some of my headcanons are random/silly/I might be overthinking the smallest details, but with Setsuna I feel like every little thing he expresses carry a lot of meaning:
• I mostly really love his connections with his Gundams and how special it is… So I like to imagine that sometimes he retreats to his Gundam's cockpit whenever he needs to relax or clear his head.
Probably my most divisive though specific headcanon I have is that, although he wouldn't know how to word it, and I doubt he did it deliberately, I believe his Gundams have some kind of a "soul", thanks to his love, passion, and ideals - They are the embodiment of it all. This same soul passes over depending on which unit he's piloting, as it's more than the machine, but the whole concept of a bringer of peace.
Though deep down I believe he has a special attachment to Exia. Which can't be helped since she was his first Gundam, and they spent so much time together. The way 00 having Exia's GN Drive was so important for him speaks volumes… Not to mention Repair II's return at the end of S2. He also most likely used Repair III to rescue Saji and Louise in the movie…! (I'm just so sad we never got to see it, but at least motorcycle Setsuna is also pretty cool)
• He seems to genuinely see everyone slightly close to him as a friend. Even though S1 Tieria refused to acknowledge him as a proper Meister, Setsuna still seems to regard him as a comrade. He probably never noticed that Saji found his behavior weird, they were friends that even had pizza together and all!
I feel like he's also the type who remembers every little detail about people around him. In attempts to communicate more, he might accidentaly bring up an embarrassing memory that the other person wanted to forget, oops.
Also, I headcanon that his best friend ends up being Tieria after everything. I can only imagine they grew closer after working together with helping the ELS for years - a sort of strong, unspoken bond. Though the occasional disagreement might be inevitable, but they'd know to understand each other better than anyone.
• He wouldn't admit it out loud, but I'd imagine he feels uncomfortable around more realistic style dolls - probably from the faint memory of seeing one around Krugis in crumbles.
• Oddly, the sunset is probably his favorite time of the day. Even though the sun was setting during that traumatic time in Krugis, that was also when he first saw the 0 Gundam. I believe he's the type of person who gets a bit more sentimental during this specific hour. I also find it nice how he's somewhat often associated with sunset imagery in he show, which might also be a symbolism for duality (how he embraces being a living contradiction) and transition (his whole quest for change, which also includes his innovator awakening).
Tumblr media
• His way of showing he cares for someone is to quietly watch over them and protect them - I think this comic that was posted on Gundam.info encapsulates the idea perfectly
Tumblr media
• Similarly, I often imagine ELS Setsuna sending flowers to his old comrades homes, without explanation or without even saying it was from him.
• Overthinking but: Maybe baby Soran has always dreamed of having a cool scarf, and it's so nice that he got to have it using the turban.
Tumblr media
• I find it an interesting aspect of his personality how he refuses to blame others for anything. He felt responsible even for the incident that took the Dylandy siblings family even though he couldn't have done anything about it. He just accepted the blame before Saji found out about the Thrones through the red Haro. Even in Re:vision his monologue starts with "I'm a sinner. Regardless of being brainwashed, or whatever you call it." he doesn't accept any excuses for the events that have happened around him. So I imagine that, even after coming back from the ELS planet and trying to be more open to the idea that he should pursue his own happiness, he remains the type who will carry the weight of the world on his shoulders forever.
• Though one of his possible alternate jobs is a sportsman, I wonder how long he'd be able to play any sport without casually forgetting the rules just like he forgot he shouldn't use TRANS-AM…
• Though it's obvious he'd like mecha anime, I feel like he'd like shows about traveling, or learning about less known places of the world. I also think he'd like farm games and plant flowers everywhere, sorry. He'd have the time of his life with Animal Crossing.
• I also think he'd enjoy bug hunting in real life… Or catching frogs by a pond. And there's no way he never tried building a sand Gundam on the beach the Meisters seem to spend time at.
• I hope that, at some point, the Meisters got to visit an amusement park together… (Unlikely, but I can dream) Setsuna initially would look like he didn't care for the place, and he'd brush it off if Neil asked if he was looking forward to it. Though then everyone loses sight of him as he wanders around, only reappearig at the end of the day, holding way too many things from the stalls. Neil tries to ask if he enjoyed the day, Setsuna regrets that he expected the bumper cars to be faster, too bad they don't have a TRANS-AM mode. Also he totally felt empathetic for the ghosts in the haunted house and wished he could befriend them.
• Random school AU headcanon: Setsuna would skip classes quite a lot, but it'd be alright since Saji would end up adding his name to all group assignments, even if later complaining to him. He wouldn't be above cheating on tests if it meant scoring enough to pass. Probably would get in trouble more than once for bringing a gunpla to the classroom…
• I also have a silly AU/what if the Azadistan-Krugis War never happened, and Setsuna grew up to be a normal boy without getting involved in armed conflict. I like the idea that he'd be a shepherd and get oddly attached to one black sheep he took care of. Though eventually he'd grow dissatisfied with his religion all the same, even without direct war he can't stand people who use it for their own gain, he has always been deeply empathetic (canon Setsuna even getting worried for the other kids at KPSA for one) so he'd still feel bothered knowing war is happening anywhere in the world. So he ends up rebeling against his village and wandering the world with his favorite sheep.
• Silly scenario: Neil shows Setsuna memes because he thinks that's what teenager boys find funny. Setsuna doesn't react at all, which honestly Neil was expecting from the beginning, but it was worth a try. Years later Setsuna shows the same to Lyle, unaware of how dated they are, he just remembers them dearly. Lyle isn't amused.
• It's pretty much stablished that Setsuna only invaded Marina's room because he wanted to hear her voice, he wasn't really expecting her to give him an answer, but hearing her calmed him down as her voice felt so familiar to him… I wonder if his mother told him bedtime stories or something and that's why hearing her talk would have such an effect, even if he doesn't remember them anymore.
• He's the type who doesn't do anything special for his birthday and still struggles with the idea that he deserves to celebrate the day that he was born. If only I could tell him that he was born on Gundam day, he'd be so happy…
Hoping those are alright and thank you for the question!
As always, I'd be open to anyone disagreeing with them and everything, I just really enjoy thinking about Setsuna all day every day

warning gundam 00 spoiler
hi! i really enjoy your posts. can i ask about innovators (pure or innovade) eyes when they change color to yellow, is there explanation about what kind of abilities they can do when that eyes activated? i know about when setsuna used it to activate quantum burst or when innovades interact with veda with it, but is there more lore about the eyes? or if you have opinions about it i wanna read it too. thanks in advance!
glad you like the blog, anon <3 it's funny you ask this, because i was just thinking about innovator eyes for writing reasons. this is very rambly and i apologize in advance. the first interesting thing i can think of harkens back to some older lore that should still be somewhere over on the gundam 00 lj community under the translations tag. the gist of it that i remember is that it served as an explanation for why tieria wears glasses despite not needing vision correction. apparently it's to protect his eyes, on account of something to the effect of his eyes being necessary for the connection with veda to be made. maybe they're the specific component that allows this interface to happen? it seems a little like a handwave to explain what was probably just an aesthetic choice on yun kouga's part, but it's an interesting tidbit nonetheless. notably, the super soldier characters' eyes don't glow despite being capable of using qbw. innovades and innovators have stronger qbw (a stronger capacity for them, maybe you'd put it?), so there being something special about their eyes that helps facilitate their use at higher levels actually makes a lot of sense. this has some pretty horrifying implications for tieria if you imagine a scenario where neil wasn't able to protect him from patrick. what if neil hadn't been the one to lose an eye that day...? what characters can actually do with qbw varies a lot between the super soldiers, the innovades, and setsuna. i think we can assume that qbw are always present to some degree -- alle and soma had serious problems just being in the vicinity of one another, and the els are attracted to anyone with the capacity for them -- but they can further still be 'activated'. we most often see glowing eyes when characters are intentionally accessing them -- consider when tieria activates them to get the els to follow after him instead of setsuna -- but intention isn't a prerequisite. regene and louise' eyes glow when their qbw are being accessed. ultimately i think it signifies qbw being used at a higher level on a whole. i get the impression too that ribbons had stronger qbw than the rest of his group if he was able to get into regene's head despite not being of the same genetic type. regene can presumably only speak telepathically with tieria, along with revive -> anew, etc. (worth noting, and i just checked this, but regene's eyes don't glow when he's speaking telepathically to tieria for the first time they meet. maybe this doesn't require high levels of qbw usage?) setsuna is an interesting case as the primary innovator we see. innovades as a whole seem to have a lot more control over the usage of their qbw than setsuna does. the one exception here would be anew, but only before she awakened to her true nature. setsuna has the strongest qbw potentional, but probably because he became an innovator so recently, his particular usage of them seems to vacillate between intentional and unintentional. quantum burst was intentional, but trans-am burst comes across to me like something that happened unconsciously out of setsuna's desire to protect everyone. consider also the scene where the lights on ptolemy go out and saji sees that setsuna's eyes are glowing. i didn't get the impression that setsuna even realized it. innovades were built to use them, but setsuna just kind of ended up with these abilities. that both innovades and innovators possess glowing eyes could be seen as another spot-on prediction from aeolia, too. imagine he anticipated how a true innovator might appear, and designed the innovade eye functionality in that image. from a meta perspective, glowing eyes are a great visual shorthand for QBW Stuff Is Happening, and thematically it conveys something too (although i might be reaching here). eyes are considered the windows to the soul, and i think you could argue that was taken into consideration here, where glowing eyes to ultimately represent the transference of information. communication.

What are your theory as to why Sunrise keeps clinging to the Inuyasha rights? They have been absorbed by Bandai, and yet they are clinging to them. Cash cow Gintama merch they still had their stickers on until recently, their own huge franchise Gundam given over to Bandai quite a while ago, but the Inuyasha anime? Still copyright 2009 Sunrise. They insisted on giving Sesshoumaru red and white also as a theme color, but now have given him a greyish purple because of the manga. But still they cling to it. Inuyasha is quite big internationally, is that why? But Gintama was the mos exported series for quite a while..! But many fans pretend it doesn't exist anymore after their stupid "what if" story (checked last merch for that, and that was in July 2022 while Inuyasha has long into next year, Moroha unsurprisingly has more of his self-insert than herself in her merch, that stupid tanuki thing). And I got to admit that I still feel a little queasy when I rewatch the first anime, especially later episodes with Rin after knowing what fantasies some of the people involved had 🤢.
When they finally lose the rights, will they be brought up quickly? As many fans want a more faithful adaptation, or will Bandai snatch them up again to take them and give to another company within them to animate? Do you think Takahashi will try getting involved with who they go to when that time comes? I really hope they'll tone down Miroku. The "eew, grooming" scene is really important so I wish it could be part somehow without one of the heroes being a creep, (it was before sumisawa got involved)
Imagine the cool transformation scenes where Inuyasha's ears and colors change during sunrise properly animated! I want to see it!
A new anime that will set it free from the grossness of the past..! Maybe even have Sesshoumaru's mother calling Sesshoumaru a hogosha and ask him why he chose a human rather than a yōkai or at the very least finding a wife first before adopting so he doesn't have to take care of her alone..! Or her in-character calling Rin another pet along with Jaken, which Jaken corrects with Sesshoumaru being Rin's hogosha but not correcting himself being called a pet because that seems in-character for him somehow. And hopefully a new translation of the manga as viz's Americanization where they'd rather introduce Hawaiian words rather than treating a Japanese series as Japanese..!
Sorry for babbling...
They are probably holding on to them because it’s more profitable to keep them than to sell them to someone else and I have zero idea tbh :( sunrise is so ass backwards they handled the yashahime controversy in the WORST possible way they consistently picked the worst option every single time and I hope we can get a new adaption but I don’t know if it’ll happen any time soon :( I’m sure inuyasha was more popular internationally and that’s a big ^^ but ranma 1/2 was huge too and it hasn’t gotten a new adaption urusei yatsura JUST got one I feel if we get one it won’t be for another 10/15 years but if we get one I hope it gets the fruit basket treatment inuyasha has its faults but it’s a really good series and introduced anime to an entire generation of adults but I feel inuyasha is left out of the “iconic 00s” anime conversation which is also :/ I’m going to be optimistic but I don’t know how realistic it’ll be but we didn’t think we’ll get a sequel (pedobait family show spin off spoof) so 👀
I would LOVE a prequel and would have preferred that over whatever yashahime was but only if sunrise does NOT touch it I want a studio who really cares about the source material and doesn’t treat these adaptions like fanfic and throws cheap plots in with even worse characterization for money most anime doesn’t run nonstop anymore so if we get one hopefully it gets the love it deserves

Another Gundam SEED Freedom trailer. How lovely.
I’ll fully admit that I watched the dub for Seed, so I don’t recognise the voice at the start there, but consensus seems to be that it’s Durandal? Shinn, Luminaria and Athrun are all confirmed to be in the new movie, with Athrun seems to be off doing his own thing compared to the rest of them. At a guess, I’d guess that Kira and his team seem to be operating under Orb’s authority, since they seem to be saluting a lot? They do seem to be reporting to a member of Orb nobility (the little kid in the green throne). Then again, it could be that Terminal’s just developed into the Cosmic Era’s answer to Celestial Being, of 00 fame. So maybe Athrun’s outside the system? I’d put money down on him and Kira coming into conflict again, especially since the latter half of the trailer seems to be playing up that Kira’s going to do something foolish, and Athrun lacking a non-pilot uniform at present.
It seems like the plot’s going to involve Durandal’s legacy? Though honestly it seems equally possible that it’ll just be brought up offhandedly. The PLANT Supreme council seems to have a new meeting place, with Lacus present at a meeting, so I imagine the focus’ll be more on them.

(Honestly this was the easiest reference image I could find for the characters) So, character wise we’ve a mix of new and old. Agnes Gieberath is the main new one, it seems (and honestly given her prominence I’d expect her to have a new Gundam along with Kira, Shinn, Athrun and presumably Lunamaria). Honestly the only thing we know about her is that she exists, nothing on personality or backstory at this point, but she’s likely one to watch. Yzak and Dearka are back, which is nice (I’m quite fond of post-character-development Yzak). We have the three Dom Trooper Pilots on the end that were essentially Lacus’ muscle in Seed Destiny. I fully expect them to either have character development or be killed off (Hilda might survive). That just leaves the final three new characters of Toyah Mashima, Albert Heinlein and Alexi Konoe. I don’t have much to say on the latter two, save that Konoe gives me a traitor vibe and if Heinlein doesn’t have something close to a German accent in the dub then I’ll be severely disappointed. But Toyah Mashima?

My, he seems to have a very familiar design. A small blonde kid that seems to resemble Mu La Flaga? Hmmm, sure that’s not gonna be relevant in any way. Probably nothing.
Still no word on the Gundam’s though. They wouldn’t be hiding them this much if they weren’t new in some way, so I’m betting they’re waiting until the model kits come up for order.
I will be honest, it’s slightly weirding me out how they’ve changed all the female characters lip designs though. It’s a very small change, but it just makes Lacus’ pout in the trailer unintentionally parodic. It’s not a problem as such, but all the male characters still have the old designs, so it just seems to differentiate them for no real reason. Eh, I’m sure I’ll get over it.

Weeks ago, I was watching Gundam 00 with Lockon and Cam and I heard the name "Revive Revival." I had to pause the show, and I laughed for a solid three and a half minutes. Just now, I heard the name "Anew Returner" and had to pause and laugh for like, A Solid Ten Minutes. One shudders to imagine what other names will make me feel.
