Too lazy to make a gif but I'm obsessed with this really small detail in the new episode where Kinger raises the gun as Pomni walks by. (It's at 16:22 for anyone who wants to see it)
They only had two shots and he used them already. They both know the gun's not loaded, so it could be that he's just moving it out of her way.
But I'd like to think that, given his lucidity in this moment, (plus his levelheaded calmness as he used the shotgun, implying to me he has/had a familiarity with firearms) it shows he was well trained and still remembers to never point a gun at another person- even if the thing's unloaded and even if it might not kill Pomni given things like lack of food/air won't kill them either.
And if not that, you could still interpret it as Kinger instinctively not wanting to point a dangerous weapon at his friend. I really liked this moment a lot.

Survivability Bias Pt 4
Masterpost Ao3
“Cassiopeia,” Danny murmurs, his eyes never leaving the glimmering void above him. “Though epsilon looks dimmer than it usually is. I wonder if it still has a ring...” Around him, the world is shadowed, the distant lights of cities visible on the horizon but not bright enough to truly disrupt his view of the night sky. It had been a bit nerve-wracking leaving the town, but he’d been making an effort to lay low for the last week, and had seen nothing to indicate anyone was coming to search for him. The idea of visiting the firefighters still makes his skin itch, but a little trip to stargaze had started seeming like a reasonable risk to take, and with the calm expanse of void above him, Danny can feel something deep inside of him settle. The buzz of fear that’s been around since before he even got here evaporates, as he counts the stars and constellations. They’re not all the same, Cygnus seems to be mostly missing, and a few of the individual stars Danny remembers seem to be gone, but for the most part, it’s the same. Certainly more familiar than anything else has been so far. The technology here is all far more advanced than anything Danny’s seen before, which is ironic considering the portal.
It’s funny, really that he can be this far away from home (a literally incalculable distance), and the stars are still generally the same. Even the ones that are new are still stars; still the same burning masses fueled by fusion and gravity, and feeding the universe at large with new material. They're still millions of light-years away, and yet they’ve been there for so long, streaming their light into a void, where it can eventually reach this very spot where Danny’s currently standing. All his problems seem so small in the face of the great expanse of space.
“Amazing!” Danny exclaims, letting himself just laugh with delight. Maybe he’s alone here, but has he ever felt this free before? Nobody to drag him away, or force him into fights, or yell at him about the chores he hasn’t done yet. Hell, if he really wanted to, he just take off, go hang out in space, maybe fly until he finds one of those alien planets that he’d seen mentioned on Wikipedia. Sure, it would probably take a stupid amount of time to get there, but he could , if he wanted.
Behind him, there’s a rush of air, and the sound of a person taking a breath, and Danny tears his gaze away from the stars, flipping himself into a fighting stance as he runs through the list of heroes he’d read about, trying to remember which of them could fly. As he turns, his eyes lock on to another boy, though, that looks to be close to Danny’s own age.
“Woah, dude.” The boy says, holding his hands up and floating a few feet backwards. “I’m not here to fight?”
“Then why are you here?” Danny asks. He is just a kid, so like, maybe , it’s safe, but also the symbol on the kids chest is the same one Superman was wearing, so he could just be a recruit or something.
“I dunno, man, I just heard you talking and got curious? Not exactly many people around that can just hang out in the sky, you know. I can leave if you want.” The other boy’s expression seems sincere. Mostly he looks startled and a bit uncertain, and deeply unlike the weird, heroic, confident posture that Superman seemed to have in every picture. This guy looks like he’s trying to look confident, sure, but not like he actually is .
“You’re not Superman, but you’re wearing his logo.” Danny says. Dropping his stance, but not letting himself fully relax. Just because it’s not a fight, doesn’t mean he’s safe, after all.
“Yeah, uh, I’m Superboy.”
“Superboy,” Danny echoes. “I read something about sidekicks? Is that-” Danny cuts himself off when the other boy winces.
“No, I’m not his sidekick. More like he’s helping to train me. We’ve got the same powers, so... Yeah.”
“Huh. Training sounds... Nice? What’s that like?” Honestly, training sounds downright miraculous. Danny hasn’t been able to stop thinking about the destruction caused by the train crash, and how everyone in Amity had always complained about the damage caused by ghost fights. He hasn’t forgotten how much he’d gotten himself hurt in those early days either, not that anyone else had ever noticed that bit.
“Yeah, I guess it’s nice. I take it you don’t have a mentor, then?”
“I’m not a hero.”
“No? I thought- I mean, you look a lot like the description of the guy who helped with the train crash over in Concord.” Superboy frowns, glancing off in the direction of Danny’s hometown.
“I mean, yeah that was me but I’m not. I don’t wanna fight anyone.”
“Oh, yeah that’s totally fair.” Superboy immediately responds with a laugh. “Honestly most of what we do isn’t actually fighting people, so y’know. You don’t have to be a fighter to be a hero.”
“Oh.” That kinda makes sense. After all, Danny had done a lot of fighting back home, and nobody had called him a hero there.
“Yeah, it’s like. There’s a lot of stuff about emergency response and civilian rescue and stuff. Hell, from what I understand half of what the Bats do is just, like detective work. That’s a lot of what my training’s for, actually. I’m pretty good at destroying stuff, I guess, but Supes says I need better control, before I can be trusted to handle relief stuff, because I might accidentally hurt people with my strength or something.”
“That’s. Cool, I guess?” Danny risks a glance up at the stars. No attack comes with Danny’s split attention, though after a moment, Superboy slowly floats over to his side.
“What are you looking at?”
“The stars.”
“Just, like, in general?” Superboy asks. He sounds dubious, and Danny can feel him glancing between him and the sky every couple seconds.
“What, have you never gone stargazing before?”
Superboy doesn’t say anything for a minute, and Danny glances over. The false confidence has completely evaporated from the other boy’s expression, and instead he just looks unsure.
“I’ve never really had the opportunity before.” Superboy finally murmurs, quieter than any of their conversation so far.
“Well, I guess you’re in luck!” Danny says, offering his new companion a smile. “Because I’m something of an expert in it!” And Danny begins to point to the different constellations, and tell Superboy as much as he can about all the stars and planets above them.
“You really are an expert, huh?” Superboy eventually says, in the middle of Danny’s tangent about why Pluto isn’t considered a planet anymore. That had been one of his most interesting discoveries in his Wikipedia explorations. He’d been kind of surprised at first when it hadn’t shown up on the list of planets, but he’d specifically searched for it, he’d learned about it’s reclassification, along with all the reasoning behind it. He’d been a little sad at first, but the realization that it came alongside the implication about a whole number of other bodies orbiting their sun had been exciting in it’s own way.
“Yeah,” Danny responds with a laugh. “I, uh, really like space. I actually wanted to be an astronaut as a kid.”
“But you don’t want to be one now?”
“I mean,” Danny hums. “It’d be nice, but I don’t think it’s really a plausible goal anymore. It- the way I got my powers came with some... complications. And anyway I kind of don’t legally exist anymore, so it’s. I can’t even go to space camp, let alone go to actual space.”
“Is that, uh, why you don’t have a normal heart beat? I didn’t wanna ask and be rude, but like, you sound kinda like a really large bee.”
“Yeah, that’s, um. I mean I’ve never been called a bee before, but yeah.”
“Wild. But like, if it’s meta stuff, then aren’t they legally not allowed to discriminate against you for it? They’re not just gonna be like ‘oh you don’t have a heartbeat guess you can’t go to space.’”
“I mean, there was, like, a meta scholarship on the website, but...”
“You’re worried about revealing your identity.”
“Yeah, pretty much.”
“Well, that’s fixable. I mean, I didn’t have an identity to even reveal until this year, so the Justice League can definitely-”
“I don’t want them to know about me,” Danny interrupts.
“Oh.” Superboy says. “Well, what about just, like one person? Because Robin could definitely make you a whole new identity all by himself, and I know he has no qualms about keeping shit secret from everyone else.”
“Robin.” Danny thinks he remembers that name being referenced in relation to Batman. Something about a boy wonder. “Is he our age?”
“Yeah.” Superboy looks excited. “I could introduce you sometime if you want?”
“I dunno.” Even one Justice League associate knowing about him is concerning, and if Superboy knows about the thing with the train, then probably the adult members do too.
“Well, you don’t have to decide now! I have super hearing so if you call my name I’m almost guaranteed to hear it!”
“You can just hear me anytime?” Danny asks.
“Oh, uh. I mean technically yes? But generally it’s like effort to just tune into one person from a distance. But I listen for anybody calling for me, in case they need help or whatever, so I’m always kind of listening for that.”
“I’’ll keep that in mind, I guess.”
“Right. Uh, do you wanna tell me more about the planets?”

Red Hood gets himself into some sort of mess with a cult and as he’s getting himself out runs into Batman. He’s pissed and being reckless on purpose because it’s the one thing that scares Bruce the most.
Bruce takes a hit and is de-aged and as nice as it would be to call the Justice League or even the bats, Jason doesn’t really want to get arrested and resolves himself to figuring it out on his own.
Bruce is uncooperative, non-talkative, and thinks he’s been abducted. Jason has very little time so he’s speed running through a lot of personal things he knows about Bruce and his trauma that he wouldn’t tell anyone else about. Neither of them are happy about this.
Bruce stops fighting when Jason takes a bullet for him. It finally sinks in what sort of danger they’re in and Jason really is doing his best. He’s trying to get back to the manor without alerting any major players about their movements.
After their understanding, Jason catches himself thinking Bruce really isn’t too bad of a kid. He wouldn’t say they’re getting along, but it’s better.
When they do get back to the manor, Bruce refuses to leave Jason’s side. At all. Alfred is the only one who isn’t surprised by this as everyone else tries to approach him and he basically sticks to Jason. (I can’t decide what age he should be because either he’s young enough to try and hide behind Jason, who picks him up, or he’s old enough that Jason stands slightly in front of him and redirects his siblings as best as possible without being too obvious).
Jason is benched to recover from the bullet wound and the other batsiblings are out trying to undo the spell. He doesn’t press Bruce for anything but does sit next to him on the couch in the library reading aloud. Or Bruce helps him hobble down to the kitchen where they watch Alfred make dinner and talk quietly. It’s a side of Jason no one thought existed anymore.
Bruce can tell that Jason tenses whenever one of his siblings is in the room, and that puts Bruce on edge because no matter how much the others tell them they’re safe, Jason remains on alert. All of the batsiblings try and corner Jason since he’s finally at the manor but Bruce is the perfect excuse for them to leave him alone and he’s grateful for the space.
When they do eventually figure out the spell and a way to reverse its effects, Jason and Alfred are the only ones who realize how nervous Bruce really is. Jason talks to whoever is going to do the spell and asks if they don’t mind going somewhere slightly more private than the middle of the batcave. Jason holds Bruce’s hand for the spell and tells him to breathe.
When he changes back, Bruce sees Jason looking at him openly, more vulnerable than he’s ever seen him. It’s disorienting and he doesn’t let go of his son’s hand. He can see Jason about to put his walls back up and pulls, telegraphing everything. He hugs him and tells him thank you for looking after him for the week. He asks about his shoulder. It’s more words than Jason has heard from Bruce for months. He wants to bristle and fight him except he can’t stop seeing all of the ways that the boy he met is super imposed over the image of his father. It’s throwing them both off. So Jason sighs and tries to relax his shoulders and just leans against his father. It’s doesn’t solve everything, but it’s a start.
#batman#jason todd#bruce wayne#redhood#alfred pennyworth#batfam#bruce panicking because some stranger just took a bullet for him and can’t watch another adult die from gun violence#jason seeing how small bruce used to be and can’t get the image of him all alone in the manor out of his head#add on the fact that bruce as a child wasn’t involved in vigilantism at all unlike the other batbrats so jason treats him like a civilian#alfred watches both of them tense around their very loud or obnoxious siblings with a knowing look#all the other kids keep trying to tease mini-bruce or get him to play a game and he just stares at jason with the wide eyes of a child#who doesn’t understand childhood and jason looks back as a kid who died young

~ Batman Detective Comics (2016)
I really like those pages, they demonstrate well how they are a family, with little touches.
First, Tim saying"the only place that ever felt like home", with a cut to the Wayne Manor. That's clear, Tim talks to Bruce about how his family manor is Tim's only home.
And then his brothers show up! They never appeared in the last issues, but suddenly, they're here. Which means that Tim and Bruce, upon realizing that Future Evil Tim is going to their home, they called them to help. Because, who is better to protect their home and Alfred than other people with connection to them? And Dick, Jason and Damian, they immediately showed up. Because that's their home, that's their grandfather, that's their future evil brother, that's their family.

A tim drake that after jason’s death but before he becomes robin stumbles into an after-battle scene he shouldn’t have to intercept a portal gun for batman. he arrives to the infinite realms to then get kidnapped and adopted all in the same day.
er, maybe? tim didn’t actually catch much past the fact that the ghost who kidnapped him is only rather insistent on bringing him to the only other human child he knows.
which, would be nice and all, if the ghost wasn’t a liar. this dude standing in front of him is dead.
and sixteen tops. the age robin would’ve been if he hadn’t—
wait.

Hey am I the only one who thought the story of the couple living in the manor may have been a retelling of or metaphor for how Kinger and Queenie were separated?
TADC episode 3 spoilers + theory below the cut!
To recap the story of the couple in the manor:
Martha and Baron Theodore Mildenhall lived together in Mildenhall manor. Theodore had been hunting as a hobby for as long as he could remember. at some point Theodore becomes aware of the presence of a creature near his manor that is neither man or animal.
Believing it to be dangerous to him and his wife, he attempts to hunt and kill the creature, plagued by a feeling of dread the entire time.
Over time, his hunt for the creature turns into an obsession, and he spends years trying to catch it. He at some point learns that this creature is an angel of God, but this doesn't stop his pursuit.
When he eventually does catch it, he decapitates it, but the body goes missing during the minute he isn't looking at it. He knows it's still alive somewhere. He knows it will be back to claim its head.
He mounts the head on his wall as a trophy, but he doesn't celebrate. He becomes anxious and paranoid, constantly on edge for when the body will return.
One day, this paranoia leads him to mistake his own wife for the creature, and he shoots her, leaving himself as the only living thing he has left to protect.
He hides in his cellar with a shotgun and two rounds. There he stays, keeping watch for the creature's inevitable return. He dies alone there, his soul dragged down to hell for the crime of harming one of God's angels.
TL;DR: Theodore and Martha Mildenhall live together in this manor. Theodore hunts as a hobby. This hobby turns into an obsession when he tries to kill a monster to protect his wife. He finds out the monster is an angel of God. He doesn't care. The angel's body lives and escapes when he does eventually catch it. He becomes paranoid the body will come back for its head and mistakes his wife for the angel's body, killing her. He dies alone in his cellar and goes to hell because he harmed an angel.
I believe the angel is meant to represent Queenie, and that Theodore and his story represent Kinger and how he accidentally caused Queenie to abstract.
Hear me out:
The eyes on the head of the angel are misaligned in the exact same way Queenie's are,
and when Kinger first sees the head, he stares at it for a long time before saying "You know, I'm starting to think..." before cutting himself off. He may have been about to acknowledge the similarity between it and Queenie. His eyes tremble noticeably during the moment after he says this.
He never elaborates on this statement for the rest of the episode.
Kinger appears to see Queenie inside the mouth of the angel while it's chasing him and Pomni. I say this since it's out of character and unlikely that he'd call anyone else "beautiful" and "honey" in the same sentence.
The composition and numerous eyes within the mouth also mirror a scene later in the episode depicting him and Queenie after she abstracted.
Also, his eyes tremble in this scene in the same way as when he was looking at the angel's head for the first time.
Kinger doesn't find out what he believes to be a monster is an angel of God until after he's shot it.
This could be a parallel to how Theodore didn't realize what he believed to be the angel's body was his wife Martha until after he'd shot and killed her.
Both people took the shot in the effort to protect someone they cared about, but both times it only made things worse for both parties.
Based on Kaufmo's abstraction and the way people respond to stress in real life, it's likely that Queenie was isolated from Kinger to some degree before she abstracted.
Kinger says he doesn't remember the events that lead up to him and Queenie in his pillow fort together.
Something may have come between her and Kinger that caused Queenie's relationship with him to weaken, which made her spend less time around him and other people as a result. It's possible that Kinger accidentally said or did something that sent her over the edge and caused her to abstract.
In conclusion, Kinger may have caused his wife to abstract and Caine used this fact with a modified version of the events leading to it in his horror tragedy adventure because he's an AI and isn't capable of coming up with completely original stories or art, just like generative AI in real life.

"Not Even At Gunpoint!"
Future Echoes of the Past #3
I didn't plan this meta. Well, maybe...just a tiny, weeny bit...I had been keeping a parallel in mind for a while...but not in this context. But it was kind of one of these moments:
Lets start at the beginning.
@beebopboom has been exploring the three magic tricks that appear in the S2 opening sequence recently, and speculating how the third one might appear in S3, and I've been exploring the paintball fight scene at Tadfield Manor in S1E2 and how that relates to the Great War in Heaven that formed Hell, and the events around the Fall. The two topics intersect, as you have echoes of the Bullet Catch magic trick from the 1941 minisode in S2E4 appearing not once but at least twice at Tadfield Manor.
But...then I realised, there's more than one pointed gun. Way more.
I'd always liked this throwback line from Crowley in S2E1, when Nina asks him if he is a bookseller as well:
Who would want to be a bookseller when this could happen to you?
Shadwell, turning up at the book shop in S1E4, disturbs Aziraphale contacting Heaven through the portal (a modified Solomon's magic circle) under the oculus, and breaks in to confront him. The historical implications of Aziraphale's lines here are that before homosexuality was decriminalized in the UK meeting places for such people were often disguised as respectable looking book shops. Which makes Nina's question in S2E1 and Crowley's denial to her all the more...loaded? Ah, well, you can't fool Nina, now, can you?
Anyway, mah point is...Shadwell literally has Aziraphale at gunpoint, er, fingerpoint here. Loaded fingerpoint.
But then, this isn't the first time Aziraphale has had a gun pointed at him. He had one pointed at him in the church in 1941 by the Nazi agent double-crossing Greta. His biggest fear, as always, isn't actually "dying," or standing in front of the guns, its the paperwork that he knows will go with getting a new body from the Ineffable Bureaucracy.
Crowley turns up to rescue him, because he "didn't want to see [him] embarrassed." With a bit of equivocation between the two of them, all the time while at gunpoint from Greta, they team up to save each other.
This was even before we got to the Bullet Catch - his "show stopper!"
Back to Tadfield Manor.
As they enter, Crowley is lined up in the crosshairs.
Er, wait a minute...
Only Crowley is shown this way here, not Aziraphale. He's a target. I'm starting to ask what point in time this is referring to - the present or the past? Both. Yeah, why not both! The work I did in this previous meta in this series showed that Crowley was considered a target for early removal by the other demons-to-be prior to the Fall.
Then they are both shot.
I pointed out Aziraphale gets shot by blue paint, representing Heaven, but its a colour we don't see used again by any one in the fighting to come. But what I didn't talk about was WHERE he got hit - in the back. That's synonymous with treachery. Heaven has stabbed Aziraphale in the back, so to speak. wow. Nice - not.
And Crowley? He gets hit in the heart - just like the Norman/Lucifer parallel on the Yellow Team does a short while later during his "fall" scene - with the red paint, betrayed by the Red Team who represent the management in Heaven.
Seems the Ineffable Bureaucracy wanted both them out of the way during the Great War...it get more and more interesting each time I look closer at it...
So was Aziraphale ever in the crosshairs? Yep.
And, as @vavoom-sorted-art points out, this is a time Aziraphale chooses to pick a weapon, and to fight. He didn't want the simple, safe deception trick with the ropes - he wanted a weapon. He really is much more the warrior than Crowley. Aziraphale, I think your nature as a principality is showing!
Firing that gun made Crowley sick to his stomach, and so did this metaphorical loaded gun - the Book of Life.
As soon as he found out from Beelzebub it was a real possibility of being played he went back to protect Aziraphale. Crowley hates fighting - watch how often he will try shut it down as quickly as possible or try to escape it when he can. To him everyone has free will, and the person picking the fight with the other is imposing their will on them. That's 'not on' in his books.
Aziraphale, on the other hand, is still reacting with his ingrained Heavenly instincts - that he should follow his morals because they are 'right,' and more sophisticated weapons add weight to the moral argument. He thinks. Maybe. (Yeah, keep working on that doubt, angel.)
Az: Impressive hardware. I've looked at this gun, its not a proper one at all. It just shoots paintballs. Cr: Don't your lot disapprove of guns? Az: Unless they're in the right hands. Then they give weight to a moral argument. I think. Cr: [laughing] A moral argument? Really? *tosses gun away* C'mon. [Heads into the Manor.] [later, after Crowley changes the paintball guns to real guns...] Az: But there are people out there shooting at each other! Cr: Well - Lends weight to their moral argument. Everyone has free will, including the right to murder. Just think of it as a microcosm of the universe.
I'll think I'll end this here and leave you with a small montage of the aftermath of all this gun play - everything going up in flames and smoke.
Bring on S3!
If you didn't follow the links in the meta, and want to read the first two in this series, they are here:

Oh my fucking GOD ok so I just "read" Lonely Place of Dying and...
Ok first off, Tim's first appearance as Robin is actually fighting 2face not Bane but whatevs, this CHILD THIS 13YO CHILD IS *LITERALLY*...
Like this tiny twat is just DAMNED AND DETERMINED to MAKE Bruce get a new Robin, to save Bruce and Dick when they're in trouble, like. LORDY CHILD. AND HE'S FUCKING DOING OK.
He lands a punch on 2face puts a tracker on him digs bruce and dick out from under an exploded building and goes with them to the next fight where he warns them of an attack and saves himself from the same attack thanks to quick thinking and at the end he's tying up 2face himself like timothy istg wtf.
AND ANOTHER THING
So in all the fics Jasons like HOW COULD BRUCE GET A NEW ROBIN SO SOON HE DOESNT CARE ABOUT THE RISKS and like its bruce he wants to murder for it... but LITERALLY bruce is the one who fights this the LONGEST like panel after panel he's saying "no, stop, robin is done, its too dangerous, i wont put another child in danger". And Tims just saying BATMAN NEEDS ROBIN over and over in every imaginable way.
And like this little shit who WAS in the batcave with alfred weaponizes alfred's fear for the others to get him to drive tim to the site and then the two of them as a badass grandpa grandson duo like 2shot 2face (temporarily), and then despite dick dramatically leaving the cave going ROBIN DIED WITH JASON in like 5 pages as he watches Tim hes like. "Damn hes good. Damn. Look at him go. You know what, hired." And bruce is the FINAL HOLDOUT even though he agrees to like train tim, he would not have if it weren't for Tim's beating him over the damn head with BATMAN NEEDS ROBIN and then the other two braincellholding family members agreeing. So literally Bruce is the last person Jason should be angry at 😂😂😂😂😂
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS COMIC?
#sprite said#sprite read#jason todd#tim drake#batman#alfred pennyworth#lonely place of dying#istg#TIMOTHY#i need these fics PLEASE#i want jason showing up at wayne manor with his guns and righteousness#screaming at bruce HOW DARE YOU#and bruce just sighs#bc he is so so tired#gestures behind him at tim and dick#who had adopted tim way before bruce ever did#and hes just like#you wanna tell them no?#please i beg you TRY IT

how does shadow being batman fit into the lore? I vote he gets adopted
#i don't know anything about the lore of sonic but the og would not blink an eye at adopting a strange alien clone emo hedgehog#everyone is also making sonic the joker which makes no sense he's obviously superman so they can still be red and blue gays#does that make wonder woman knuckles? i mean it kinda makes sense...#none of bruces human (?) kids want to be batman so he gives the mantle to a hedgehog#anyway jason todd is a shadow kinnie neither of them are allowed to have their guns in the manor
