Temple of the Sun - Gujarat - India
Woven into the rich tapestry of Indian heritage, the ancient Sun Temple in Gujarat (Modhera), is a Hindu temple that is older than the Konark Sun Temple in Orissa and stands as a testament to astronomical science and artistic mastery. Dedicated to the solar deity Surya, the temple functions as an ancient observatory, strategically capturing the Sun's rays twice a year during the solar equinoxes and, on the summer solstice day, embodying cosmic knowledge and wisdom. As per the Vedas, India's ancient sacred texts, the sun is seen as the soul of the universe and the source of energy sustaining all life on Earth.
Constructed during the rule of Bhima I of the Chaulukya dynasty, it was built between 1026-27 CE on the banks of the river Pushpavati. The 1000-year-old temple encapsulates ancient India's harmonious coexistence of intricate sculptures, exquisite artisanship, astronomical science, celestial alignment, and deep-rooted spirituality.

We enjoyed the Kathiyawadi cuisine too much. It is spicy and I loved it. The best part was mirchi is stuffed with mirchi & it is spicy hot!
The people of Gujarat were helpful and guiding us whenever we needed help to find some places.
I was unaware that I was visting our PM Narendra Modi's village in Gujarat. His village, Vadnagar is exceptionally clean, beautiful and serene. The Amba Mata Aarti that was being sung in the village temple still rings in my ears, when the Moon on Dev Diwali's Tripurari Pournima was rising.
When we asked for directions to the ST bus depot, the person gave us a lift in his car to the bus stand!
I also met my college friend after 15 years here, when she decided to join our trip impromtu for some part of the journey! It was nice.
(The approximate expense of this trip from Mumbai to Gujarat & back in 3AC train with hotel stay was Rs. 5000/-).
Read some more the enjoy other parts of Gujarat.

Sceneloc8 explains the cultural significance, historical background, and exciting elements of Dahi Handi. It also recommends the finest places to go and offers safety advice to ensure an unforgettable time.
Cultural Significance and History of Dahi Handi
Dahi Handi, sometimes called Gopal Kala or Utlotsavam, honors Lord Krishna’s carefree early years. Lord Krishna was well-known for his fondness of butter and curd. According to tradition, to access pots of curd that were placed high to deter theft, Krishna and his companions would arrange themselves into human pyramids. This custom represents not just Krishna’s mischievous nature but also virtues like cooperation, harmony, and the victory of good over evil.
The occasion is more than simply a physical test; as individuals from all walks of life unite to rejoice, it captures the spirit of community. The exhilaration of shattering the Dahi Handi pot and building human pyramids strikes a deep chord with both participants and onlookers, fostering a happy and supportive environment.
