I finished repairing and cleaning this electric guitar a couple of days ago. I found in the junk section at a local secondhand store (recycle shop) near my home in Okinawa, Japan. I got it for cheap. All three potentiometers (the volume and tone controls) were broken, but replaced them. Thr middle pickup didn't work, but I replaced it. It's another one of those affordable Made in China electric guitars. It is branded as PhotoGenic. Sometimes PhotoGenic guitars are labeled as PhotoGenic by Maison, which I am fairly certain is a guitar brand from Korea. I really love guitars. As a hobby, I'm sort of on a mission to save as many guitars as I possibly can from the trash. And I want to make affordable guitars more available to new and/or young guitar and bass players to get started. After all, guitars and bass guitars are wonderful musical instruments and the world needs more musicians whether they are working musicians or hobbyists. Make music, not war! Peace! Just did a hot rod mod to my Epiphone Les Paul. Swapped the pickups for zebra golden age over wound humbuckers and added push/pull pots so I can split the coils. I bought this used electric guitar last night, which I found in the junk section at a local secondhand store (recycle shop) near my home in Okinawa, Japan. It cost me only ¥540 with tax, which is less than $5USD. All three potentiometers (the volume and tone controls) are broken, but that with be easy for me to replace. No sound comes out of the middle pickup, but the pickups in the neck (or front) and bridge (or rear) positions are fine. This problem with the middle pickup might simply be a wiring issue, but I'll fix that problem too. It's another one of those affordable Made in China electric guitars. It is branded as PhotoGenic. I bought another junk guitar from a local secondhand shop here in Okinawa. It was cheap - only ¥2,160 yen - about $20 US. There are problems with the electronics and also with the string action, but nothing I can't fix. The finish will need some attention too. I'll fix her up, so she can play again. I recently finished restoring this old Precision Bass copy by FlyStar. I had found it in the junk section of a used goods shop here in Okinawa, Japan. Basically, it wasn't playable when I bought it. I had never heard of this particular brand prior to finding this guitar. My best guess is that it was manufactured in either Korea or China. The best thing about this particular bass guitar was the woods used and the quality of the sunburst finish. I think the body looks great especially after I cleaned it up and polished it. Another good thing about this bass is that it likes to be slapped. I'm not much of a slap-style bass player, but this electric bass feels easier to slap than most other basses I have or have had, and it sounds good. I also rewired the electronics (the pickup, pots, cap and output jack) because of loose connections. Plus, I added shielding and grounded the electronics in the cavity to reduce any additional humming noise. And, of course, I did a fret job: leveled the frets, rounded the edges, crowned and polished. This process always takes a lot of time and care. I set the neck relief and adjusted the string action as low as I possibly could without causing any fret buzz. It plays pretty well - as good as many more expensive basses. I finished repairing this electric bass guitar. It's a vintage white Fender P bass copy originally made by Busker's, but I made a bunch of modifications to it. For example, I installed CTS USA solid shaft 250k potentiometers, so the tone is much better than before. The new knobs are genuine Fender parts. Also, I changed the pickup with one I took off of a Fernandes bass that I also modified. Plus, after working on the frets (leveling, crowning, polishing, and buffing) and adjusting the saddles on the bridge I could get the string action really low. The string action on this bass guitar is even better than on my Fender USA P Bass. So, anyway, I really love playing this bass, and I don't know if I'm willing to sell it.
