I honestly think that Dizzy's entrance to Guilty Gear Strive should be as much of A Moment for plural systems as Bridget's was for trans women. The character's not out yet, but every bit of promotional material for the character points in a very promising direction. So for people who don't go here, or who have only played Strive, allow me to tell you why a character trailer for a three-year-old game put me on the verge of tears.
Tumblr media
For some quick context, plurality in a person is essentially the state of having multiple entities in one's head. The most commonly known form of this comes from having dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personalities. But plenty within the plural community (including me) have a broader umbrella for the term. The main terminology you'll want to know for this is that a "system" is a group of entities within one body (I for example am part of the Fal'cie System), and "aspects" are entities that aren't quite separable from the host, because they're the manifestation of specific parts of them. For the record I am very aware of how buckwild this sounds to an outsider, and I frequently get existential about it. A lot of characters in anime and games are incidentally plural due to their layers of fantasy nonsense. Some examples of this in action are Yami and Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh, Sora gaining Ventus's heart in Kingdom Hearts, and the explicit dissociative identity of the Storyteller System in Ace Attorney.
Now then! To sum up Dizzy's backstory real quick, Dizzy is a Gear, basically a living weapon, and the daughter of original antagonist Justice. Most of her character up until this point has been desperately trying to cover that and live among humans, to... mixed avail. In the series' story mode she manages to start a family with the human deuteragonist Ky Kiske, who loves her a lot despite formerly being one of the best Gear-slayers. Ky is such a wonderful character, because throughout the series we see him go from hating Gears to tolerating a few of them to having a kid with one and actually becoming a little bit Gear himself. But this essay isn't about Ky Kiske.
In actual gameplay, as in the 1v1 fighting game battles, the main thing stopping her from relative normalcy is her two wings, Necro and Undine. The reason I say this character is a plural dub is because these wings are actually aspects of Dizzy, Necro being her rage and Undine her compassion. A lot of Dizzy's attack animations in Guilty Gear XX (the one where I've played Dizzy a lot) actually have Necro doing violent things while Dizzy herself is either distracted or afraid. This continued in Guilty Gear Xrd, where her instant kill move (every character gets one) has Necro unleashing a fuckoff gamma ray while Dizzy begs him to stop. Worth noting also that gamma rays are one of the moves her mother Justice used. Dizzy and Necro have clearly not been getting along, and while it's fun as a fighting game character bit, there is a certain level of sadness to it.
But in Strive? Oh my god, she looks so happy now! So at peace with herself and with her system. Lemme just rattle stuff off right now.
-Dizzy's attack animations all put her in control. Necro and Undine do a lot of fighting still, but never without Dizzy's control. They are fighting in tandem.
-Dizzy's victory animation has her hold out two hands. Undine naturally puts her whole hand onto one, and Necro finally puts a single finger on the other with a smile.
-Their super move, Gamma Ray, starts out with Necro and Undine firing a beam, and Dizzy getting scared. But after glancing at them and realizing it's okay, she joins in on the beam attack.
-She has a new move now, Michael Sword (Pronounced Mik-hai-ull), a full-screen slash that Justice used to have, indicating that she's come to terms with her origins and wants to use them for good.
-God, her opening animation and taunt where she communes with the animals like a Disney princess. Her new beautiful design. Her new theme song! She has never been this happy in her life!
The thing is, right, I can imagine people saying that this character growth isn't remotely the same kind of moment as Bridget's, because Dizzy's whole thing is based in sci-fantasy that could never be real in the same way that like, dissociative identity is real. Plenty more would deny that plurality exists at all outside some deluded roleplayers. And, I mean, was series director Daisuke Ishiwatari really thinking about people like me when choosing to take the character this way? I don't know, honestly. But I do know that Dizzy's character arc is authentic, to me. If there's one thing Guilty Gear Strive's story is really good at, it's giving long-suffering characters some well-earned peace. And if this is how Strive Season 4 is starting, I can't wait to see what they do next.

Two idiots walk into a bar. The third laughs at them before proceeding to walk into it as well.
Translation assistance: @yomotsu-hirasaka + anonymous
Cleaned and original comics below the cut.
ID in alt.
Explaining the joke:
In Chipp's story path 3 in GG:XX, he gets brainwashed by Robo-Ky (yes, Robo-Ky has brainwashing / mind control abilities in GG:XX. It's played fairly seriously, but I find it funny). This is in order to use his abilities to accomplish the PWAB's agenda capturing Japanese people.
In the game, Chipp successfully stabs Anji. Anji realizes what's going on and proclaims that he'll bring Chipp back to his senses (which he does not). The joke is that here, Anji is utterly oblivious to what Chipp was trying to do, assuming that Chipp's just trying to help him out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Specific assistances:
@.yomotsu-hirasaka: Translating Robo-Ky's dialogue into regular text. Checked various small things for accurate transcribing.
Anonymous: Checked various small things for accurate transcribing.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this was awful and the entire reason it was awful is because I hold myself to an extremely high standard...
I noticed that the dialogue was similar to the dialogue between Chipp and Anji at the beginning of their meeting in Chipp's path 3. So in order to get a more accurate translation, I went to check a recording of of the dialogue on Youtube. However, it was just too different in tone and feeling for me to feel comfortable just using it without seeing the transcript.
So I said to myself, 'Let's go open up XX #RELOAD and change the language to Japanese; shouldn't take more than an hour all together'.
It turns out you can't change the language of XX #RELOAD. So I went to access XX #SLASH (because, well, may as well use the Japanese-only game if I'm going to be viewing the Japanese dialogue). It takes a while to access. I open it up, and check training mode quickly to make sure it's the correct version. It's the first iteration of XX. Not the third.
'Huh. Dang.' I say to myself, and proceed to actually access #SLASH.
It turns out #SLASH doesn't have a story mode.
I access XX again, utterly done with all of this, and then realize with dawning horror that I'll need to beat Ky's story path 2 in order to access Chipp's story path 3. Because the writers of XX really admired hedge mazes.
And then I remembered that the Guilty Gear Wiki has the original Japanese transcript along with having the English transcript.
And they had Chipp's full transcript.
It was... An exhausting and tumultuous use of 4 hours. But at least I can access Guilty Gear X Plus, now....? Like I've been wanting....?
Ugh.
Funny comic.
I've been rechecking some translations because I realized I was doing something incorrectly and I honestly forget how much I have to adjust these to make sense in English. More power to me, woohoo.... (<- exhausted...)

All of Bridgets outfits (I can find)
Tumblr media
(Bridgets original design from XX) -Daisuke Ishiwatari
Eh, It's popular for a reason, but it's not really one of my favourites.
Tumblr media
(Bridget's default outfit from Strive) -Hidehiko Sakamura / Asano Kenta (Not sure)
I love the beige shirt and more lighter greyish blue for the jacket, it helps increase the pallet variety that GG suffered from. (Ky, Sin, Justice, Millia, Robo Ky etc all have blues and whites) Also love how poofy it is.
Tumblr media
(Bridgets Pop-up Shop 2022 outfit) -Hidehiko Sakamura / Asano Kenta (Also not sure)
I need more outfits with glasses, also I like that this outfit hides the neck and chest area, like her Strive look, it could be unintentional but it implies that Bridget has dysphoria around those places(edit: it is intentinonal, im stupid).
Tumblr media
(Bridgets XX outfit with a pirate hat)
It's super cute, yeah its just a different hat but fuck you I like it too much okay :3
Tumblr media
(Bridgets XX mission illustration outfit) -Daisuke Ishiwatari
It's one of her few simple outfits (Other than the Pop-up shop one) and I really like it, I tend to really like simple-ish outfits and more casual clothing. It's also really fun seeing characters with intricate outfits were something more normal.
Tumblr media
(Bridget XX slash mission illustration outfit)
BRIDGET FUCKING HUNG ROGER, and with that out of the way. It's alright, I dont really have much to say about the outfit really.
Tumblr media
(Bridget XXAC special illustration)
I really love how the hat and scarf work to mimic the nun habit, though I wish we got to see the front of it.
Tumblr media
(Bridget XXAC Mission Illustration) -Hiroko Ogawa
This basically looks like a winter version of her normal XX look, but I prefer this one, the sleeves and thigh highs makes this outfit look more cozy. It's probably my favourite of her outfits.
Tumblr media
(Bridgets XXAC+ Swimsuit)
You cant even see the whole thing, what else do I say about it? I just thought I'd mention it cause it's a different outfit.
Tumblr media
(Bridget Vastedge outfit)
Im pretty sure the Pink and Blue neon colours are meant to be yellow or gold, but I cant be bothered to change it to normal, (It's this or the crusty animations of her attacks I found) I probably prefer this over her XX outfit.
And thats all the ones I can find, I may or may not do this with other skrunglies from Guilty Gear.
Also help correct me if I got any of the artists wrong. And please let me know who some of the artists I dont know are.
I really did try to find who drew these pieces, but its mostly not written anywhere.

. . .
Someone asked me a weird question, and I'm not sure I can give a straight answer but... based on what little I understand:
The Nintendo Wii version of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is based on the original PlayStation 2 port of the game.
The Nintendo Switch version of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is "supposedly" based on the Arcade version of Plus R.
I don't have the precise details on this, so I can't confirm it or not.
All I can say is that the Steam version/PC version of Accent Core Plus R is probably the closest to the Arcade version, even compared to the XBox360 version.
This is largely why it might prove difficult to port Accent Core Plus R to the PlayStation 4/5 at this time... since the PlayStation 3 version of Accent Core Plus R is a "bad port" of the Arcade version... they would likely have to make a port of PlusR from Scratch for PS5 (if they ever decided to).
If anyone has more details on PlusR they could divulge to add to this post, I'd appreciate it... but so far, all I can really say is that Plus R itself is fundamentally an "arcade version" of Accent Core Plus (ACPlus was an "append" to the original PS2 port of the game, but later ported to Arcades in a completely different way).
It took nearly a year to "patch" to the PS3 version of Accent Core Plus to a semi-stable "Plus R" build... so that should give you some idea why the PC version is probably the most stable version in existence.
Prior to ACPlus on the PS2, was the unstable builds of Accent Core, which are famous for the I-No Fortissimo Crash bug, among other issues it had.
Prior to that was GGXX Slash and GG Isuka builds, which were based on Blue Reload, which was based on Red Reload which was based on the original "unpatched" Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival.
GGXX had several "Arcade Naomi ports" based on the games I just listed, but they aren't nearly as big a project as Plus R was to reverse-port.
Again, I have no idea if they will ever port this game to PS4 or PS5... but I have my doubts.
It's also why it's less likely to see a modern port of GGX1.5 or Guilty Gear X Plus on anything beyond Naomi/Atomiswave/PS2 console emulation.

Being an autistic person I hate when I develop an interest in a really cool game (usually and obscure fighter) and no one plays them. Like here’s a list of some awesome games I don’t play more because they have small amounts of people playing them Guilty Gear XX #Reload/Slash Dead or Alive Street Fighter 3 2nd Impact Tekken 2, 4 and Tag 2
Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 (still play single player a bit) Umineko Golden Fantasia Granblue Fantasy VS (probably one of the easier games to find people on in this list) Arcana Heart 3

I understand where this sentiment comes from and I can understand how that would be people's interpretation of their relationship, but it leaves out a lot of stuff from their relationship and characters on their own that I can't ignore.
Yes, their relationship is not healthy and A.B.A. was ignorant and not mature going into this relationship this is her first relationship of any kind, but Paracelsus is also immature and has never had a relationship before.
Para had just gained consciousness on the battlefield when he met Slayer. Before that, he would manipulate his wielders with what they wanted before taking over their minds. All he knew and all he wanted was blood and the thrill of a fight as he is an axe first off. I wouldn't expect a knife that had just gotten consciousness not to want to be used as a knife. Slayer wanted to see what he'd turn out to be as a person so left him on the ground to ruminate and think for like 20 years. All he knows is that he's an axe that hungers for blood. He didn't want anything else.
Para seeks out people who would use him for what he's meant for making A.B.A more possessive of him. I wouldn't expect them to act any differently. A.B.A is looking for a connection, Paracelsus is looking for a wielder. This is not grooming. Paracelsus is not in a position of power to make her do anything, A.B.A actively ignores him and doesn't even want to know his name or who he was before they met. She has an ideal lifestyle that she wants to achieve, that is one of the reasons she seeks a body for Paracelsus. He has vocalized many times that he doesn't want. It is also not grooming the other way, Paracelsus has denied her advancements and has run away from her multiple times but she either catches up to him or he comes back. (If we're going with the manga) Despite her unusual affection, she does still give him blood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of the blood thing A.B.A isn't human and keeps blood packets on her I don't see that being an aspect of manipulation or anything on Paracelsus's end, A.B.A chooses to give him it and she can recover from it with no problem, there's also not really anything showing within the game on how that interaction turns out. But in the manga (Guilty Gear XX Slash manga: 4koma Kings), there is a panel of him looking guilty when she talks about how she's already drained from blood. We don't know how she gets her blood packets but I doubt she'd give it all to him she does need some for herself.
In the Night of Knives vol 2 CD, we hear the first time A.B.A used Paracelsus as a weapon. He didn't force her or mind manipulate her, she got herself into a fight with one of the most powerful characters in this universe and he begged her to let him help. Yeah yeah, Paracelsus did ask Slayer to be his wielder but it was what Slayer said after that that really made A.B.A mad. Anyways...
Then 5 years go by from xx+Rcore and he has sworn off blood, A.B.A looks considerably better health-wise and Paracelsus is goopy. Para's mind thing can go both ways and A.B.A's emotions are intense and it has made Paracelsus start to enjoy the kind of life A.B.A wanted since they first met. "I never knew I could do what I hated in you." - Monster Song (Demo) by Dom Fera He doesn't want to fight anymore, he has stopped taking blood from A.B.A but the damage has been done. A.B.A is paranoid, easily defensive, and has learned how to fight. Not to mention A.B.A still has that quirk of not listening to Paracelsus. At some point, their behavior has switched. They still have a lot of thinking to do, they were so close to agreeing on something, and they're finally taking the steps to do it.
I am not saying they didn't do anything wrong, Paracelsus Moroha mode was the manipulation I believe he was referring to. I just think these are just very natural progressions to their characters and situations and I do blame how A.B.A is now to be the byproduct of Paracelsus but they are learning. This is not grooming they are both in the same state. Age, positions of power, and knowledge of the world is not hold up above the other's head.
There's no one like them here. They're odd and that's what A.B.A's theme is about.
I can agree that I also wish for her to have a birthday but she had a lot of things to worry about then thinking of the day she awoke, she wasn't meant to be alone for it but she was and she required blood transfusions often. It's also not like Paracelsus has a birthday that would be fucked if he had a birthday but not her.
I know this seems to be the "guilty gear fandom scares me a little" proven right but I'm just really REALLY invested with A.B.A's character, and she's fun to play.
My hot take is that I thought it was Really obvious that Paracelsus' and Aba's relationship was an allegory for grooming (not explicitly sexual but still) and he's a lot of the reason she seems super mentally ill. Like. Even before I read up on all her xx lore I thought he was so obviously manipulative (even admitted it) and I find it kind of disturbing that her arcade mode in strive ended with a stay with your abuser type relationship. I think I could have been neutral if she fully didn't deny the manipulaton (which as like. the first level of his awfulness towards her).
I'm not saying she's fully innocent but I am saying you can track her behavior back to what caused it specifically and a good chunk of it is the abuse.
She went from being physically trapped in Frasco to being trapped in an abusive relationship bc she's convinced he loves her so she's still not actually free which is a big part of her character.
I also don't like Symphony for the same reasons. And that she got an anniversary instead of a birthday because she revolves around that damn key despite having a lot of character traits that are just her own that are then never brought up.
I'm just mildly horrified how much people boil down her complexity to crazy girlfriend trope and then don't seem to see how fucked their relationship actually is.
This is on anon bc the guilty gear fandom scares me a little

Guilty Gear PS2 Memory Save Icons
(Source)
More Info under the cut
IMPORTANT EDIT: @tillman uploaded the icons in good quality here, and even the missing ones. Go check those out! My blurb under the cut is outdated as it was made before his findings but I'm keeping it here for archival.
As you might know, the PS2 had a built in data browser for you to copy and delete your games save files, which were represented by mostly unique icons. The easist and less data consuming way to do so was to put a cube with the game’s logo or such. Guilty Gear didn’t went this route.
Despite having 7 games released for the console, at least 5 had these uniquely modelled icons, clearly a mark of extra effort.
Now, for which games do these belong to? First two are easy. Guilty Gear X and XX. Then, Paracelsus for XX Slash, Order Sol for Accent Core and Robo Ky for Isuka. Please keep in mind I have only learnt this from word of mouth and sparce pictures from the web.
Fun fact, I haven’t found pictures to corroborate this, but a twitter user claimed to remember Accent Core PLUS having Sol with blue and white clothes instead. Take that with a pinch of salt, but it is an interesting scenario, nonetheless.
Some PS2 icons had animations for when you copied and/or deleted, but I am unaware if these do. Definitely not every PS2 game icon had them, so they probably do not, in my opinion.
Ultimately, if you want to learn more about these I suggest you do your own search (with all the discretion needed). PS2 icons are a niche but interesting topics, some are well documented, others are not, but there are preservation efforts in progress.

"Not ready for you to cut me down" sounds like foreshadowing
It’s the running thing between Anji and Baiken ever since they met in Guilty Gear XX, that Baiken will threaten Anji that she’ll slash him if he gets in her way, acts dumb or doesn’t do what he promised such as giving her info on That Man; and Anji would be not too bothered by the threat at all, heck he wanted Baiken to vent her rage on him rather than go after That Man and get herself killed. But outside of the in-game fighting/sparring, Baiken never goes through with her threats, and Anji knows they’re empty threats but respects that she’s making them.
But in -STRIVE-, Baiken for once doesn’t actually threaten Anji or say how she’ll ‘slash’ him if he gets in the way of her revenge, instead she just tells him to not try talking her out of it. Anji ends up being the one recalling the way their conversation usually goes when he wants to talk her out of going after That Man.
Tumblr media
But what if there’s going to be a ‘pay-off’ to this line? What if there IS a situation where Baiken has to finally ‘cut down’ Anji for real?
I mean, Anji was already brainwashed once by Happy Chaos. HC also deliberately caused the attack on their colony and caused them to become the people they are, especially Baiken. He wants drama more than anything.
So imagine, HC mindcontrolling Anji into attacking Baiken and Delilah so she would have no choice but to seriously consider cutting him down to stop him. And to twist it in, prolly have Anji be aware of it happening. What if Anji even deliberately stops defending himself just so Baiken can get a clean hit on him when she expects him to spin/dodge, allowing her and Delilah to escape? Finally ‘letting her cut him down’, for her and Delilah’s sake. What would Baiken go through when she feels her sword actually cut through him for real?
I still feel the current interaction between Baiken and HC is really weak as a ‘conclusion’ to her feud. So even tho the above scenario hurts, I actually would like something involving all three to possibly appear in some future DLC. At the very least a direct confrontation between Baiken and HC.
(Also ofc Anji won’t die for real, but I think Baiken believing she actually causes his death for even a moment would jolt her into realizing something about her feelings for Anji. Hopefully.)
