You can practice social distancing while creating with sidewalk chalk. You can either be artistic, educational, political, whatever. A mask and gloves are a good safe choice if you're doing it in dirty city streets but if you're in the country in a park the fresh air might be nice. In your own drive way you make the call. No need to get close to anyone or interact with them so that you can keep true to your social distancing safety precautions...just leave something inspiring behind... Consider doing it by tall buildings of old people, young people, and sick people. The joy your beauty provides might strengthen someone's smile and, maybe it is just wishful thinking, but maybe it will even be enough to strengthen someone's immune system even the slightest little bit. The weather is supposed to be nice today in LONGVIEW so I'm thinking about going to Lois Jackson Park and drawing as many circles as I can. If at least 5 people agree to help me color the circles in then I'll show up to draw from 12-4pm with all my chalk and see how much we can accomplish together! Happy to teach you or your kiddos how to draw perfect circles too. If any yogis, bmx riders, skateboarders, musicians, or dancers want to come out I'll get 360 footage of you interacting with the art then edit and send it to you. Most all of the art I created this summer was in #Chicago however I did go to #Milwaukee and knock out a 15 hour piece in the heart of downtown. Had to go put something down for the autumn equinox...finally went back to what got me started working with chalk, the #ABCMandala! After getting the ABCs in I continued the #FlowerOfLife or overlapping circles. I started doing this design to highlight the unrivaled symmetry hidden within the Latin Alphabet. The Hu(e)man in the center points out the 5 vowels. Also the three letters shaped like the number 3 have symmetry also...E at the top, the 13th letter M, & the 23rd letter W. Tons more mathematical and geometric oddities or synchronicities show up the more you study it. Doesn't make sense how an alphabet that took 2,000 years to evolve on multiple continents has this symmetry. Study all you want and no other alphabet has these qualities...it has been in this order over 400 years yet somehow it isn't common knowledge. All the colors are on purpose. RedGreenBlue Additive color Mixing and CyanMagentaYellow Subtractive color mixing. I plan on going back and adding more today & making a video explaining everything better. Last of the footage from the #GrantSkatePark where @roddquinn did a massive owl on an 8 foot tall 35 foot long skate ramp! I wrote a new short poem and put it on the streets last night...it has been years since I've written much but here recently that's been changing. Feels good to be getting my words back after a few years of just expressing myself via visual art & performance art. "What about when it washed away? I'll have a clean canvas and be a better compass.
