"If you wanted to survive this, you should've met me a few years back. I'm a different person than I was when I came out of the ice. Which is very unfortunate for you."
Those of you who would recognize Rose Rogers have been here FAR too long but also hiiiiiiii 💕 anyway, she's changed a fuckton through the years (in universe and in the real world in her design and characterization.) She's a little more lethal, little more bloodthirsty, a little more grounded, and a little more secure in herself. And she has a fuck ton of new weaponry she's skilled with, including the Ares-gifted Spear of Achilles (:
Un-blurred versions of the above under the read more!!

Honest and Unmerciful Infinity War Thoughts
TL;DR: it was absurdly bad and marvel should be ashamed of putting this out.
I’m going to preface this by saying I freely admit I’ve had no love for the MCU ever since Iron Man 3. Their casting leaves a lot to be desired, their writing leaves a lot to be desired, their directors choices leaves a lot to be desired. Their story elements are picked up and cast aside almost immediately, like a four year old trying to play with all his Hot Wheels at once.
That said, after Homecoming, Ragnarok, and Black Panther, I felt like the series was on its way back to, if not greatness, then certainly a point where I could enjoy it again, rather than see the glaring holes where a better story could have been told by better hands.
And then Infinity War happened.
Right away the opening was a shambles. Completely renders the hope spot ending of Ragnarok moot by killing off the Asgardians, save Thor. A casual reference is made later to “Thanos killed half my people and my brother”, but unless he took prisoners, I don’t think you can survive your space ship being blown up.
Also Heimdall went out like a bitch. We’ve known for years now that they had no idea what to do with the guy who could see everything, but pinning him down so he can be stabbed five minutes in was callous.
Loki’s death was a long time coming. I enjoyed that. I’m grateful.
The Children of Thanos mumble half their lines, but they also exposit half the plot, which is an unfortunate combination. They’re also the pinnacle of locking out the casual moviegoer. If you don’t know who these people are from the comics, you won’t be told. You’ll spend two and a half hours wondering where these people came from and why we haven’t seen them sooner
Thanos ends the opening two gems up, so tension is immediately drained from the rest of the movie. We know every fight is going to be a curb stomp battle with him winning.
Another element from Ragnarok cast aside: Hulk is able to apparently turn back into Bruce, which he does immediately after falling into the Sanctum.
Wong was the best character and he was in it for five minutes (everyone else was in it for five minutes too, but his were the most memorable). I was still laughing at “I have 200 rupees so…. A buck fifty” on the car ride home.
As is par for the course with Marvel lately, no reference is made to any local heroes who might be able to help. Marvel pumps millions into its Netflix shows only to pretend they don’t exist. If I was working on them, to say I’d be insulted is an understatement.
Tony’s new nanotech suit looks like it’s made of cheap plastic, like it was a replica Iron Man suit you’d see at your local comic con.
They knew no one would see Dr. Strange, so they spent a good amount of time forcing the fact that Strange had the Time Stone into your head.
Thanos’ goons escape with Strange’s unconscious body on their flying Ringolo, with Tony in hot pursuit and Peter stuck to the side. (Peter’s sole purpose in this movie, by the way, is to parrot pop culture references because the writers can’t write women or teenagers.)
Wanda and Vision (don’t even get me started on that relationship) are hiding out in Scotland, having crazy romance and giving the audience mood whiplash since we just saw New York under fire. After they get beaten up by another pair of Thanos’ goons (or possibly the same pair, none of them are especially distinct), Steve, Nat, and Sam swoop in and rescue them, jetting off for “home”.
Which is the Avengers facility in New York, where Rhodey’s only real purpose in this movie is to remind everyone about the Accords so that Steve can march in and tell Ross the Accords don’t matter, they’ll do what’s right when the going gets tough. If he’d had the balls to do that in Civil War, we wouldn’t have had the infamous Tesco Parking Lot Fight.
The Guardians pick up Thor and we get five minutes of jokes about Rocket that got old in the first GoTG movie, and jokes about Thor that got old in the first Avengers movie.
Back on the Ringolo, Peter makes another pop culture reference and they blast the dead elf looking goon out into space and get control of the ship. They’re bound for Titan. Is it a new planet? Is it Saturn’s moon? Who knows? The plot sure doesn’t.
Gamora’s tragic backstory is expanded on incredibly briefly. I don’t think Mrs Gamora’s mom ever told her not to talk to giant purple strangers committing mass murder.
Gamora makes Quill promise to kill her, in a bit of foreshadowing shaped not unlike a brick to the face. Drax does Drax things. Much as I love him, using Drax to defuse a tense scene between Quill and Gamora is old now. Please find another use for him.
Through the Reality Stone and Benicio Del Toro in a bad wig, Thanos captures Gamora and surprise! Quill couldn’t kill her.
Was this torture scene with Nebula really necessary? Or did someone at Marvel go “I don’t think they know how much we hate women, lets have Thanos torture Nebula and then reveal to Gamora that he knew the truth all along”?
Thor, Groot, and Rocket’s adventure to Nidavellir would have been better if they didn’t give the great Peter Dinklage and Thor the ungodly exchange of
“You can’t take the full blast of the star, you’ll be killed!” “You mean I might die!?” “.....yes, that’s what ‘you’ll be killed’ means.”
Also Red Skull is here, but he’s not played by Hugo Weaving and whoever they hired to replace him can’t do an accent, so the end result is less “Oh hey it’s that guy!” and more “Is this a new person?”
Gamora’s death was cruel and unnecessary and had been telegraphed from the moment we got her tragic backstory.
The Guardians, Tony, Strange, and Peter meet up on Titan (again, Saturn’s moon or what? Who knows.). Because no one is capable of talking to each other in this movie, they fight until Quill, Tony, and Peter realize they’re all human.
Quill isn’t from Earth, he’s from Missouri, because he’s an idiot now.
Thanos appears and it’s motivation time. After ten years, surely we have something great lined up. Is it Mistress Death? Is it to unite the universe under his control? A little good old fashioned megalomania? No it’s…. Overpopulation. He wants to save the universe… from overpopulation. I will henceforth be referring to him as Evil Al Gore.
The combined Guardvengers have Evil Al Gore subdued and the gauntlet is off. I REPEAT, the gauntlet is OFF. Then Nebula realizes Gamora is dead and Quill loses it, distracting Mantis from keeping him subdued and letting him get the gauntlet back on.
The battle, nay, the WAR, was literally won until they injected a little Man Pain into the script.
Strange decides to surrender because the script told him to, and surrenders the Time Stone just like that.
In Wakanda, Shuri (god bless her) is going to try and get the stone out of Vision without killing Vision while the rest of the Stevevengers plus Bucky, T’Challa, and the Wakandans try and hold off Evil Al Gore’s goons and their army of… alien attack dogs?
Shuri, after two lines in the movie, dives off screen literally never to be seen again. A tragic waste of the best character they’ve given us in at least five years.
Wanda agrees to destroy the stone in Vision’s head, and even succeeds, until Evil Al Gore, rewinds time and reassembles it. Voila, he has all six stones, like we knew would happen two minutes into the movie.
Thor beats him up but neglected to go for anywhere that might actually stop him, so Evil Al Gore clicks his fingers and vanishes and people start to disintegrate.
They try for a little tugging at the heartstrings with Peter vanishing, but all he’s done all movie is spout pop culture at me in a borderline insulting parody of teenagers, so I’m a little glad to see him go.
Evil Al Gore retires to his retirement planet to watch the sun set, but not before a vision of baby Gamore asks him what it cost. “Everything”, apparently.
Points of note:
The movie is so overstuffed with characters that everyone is barely in it. Characters literally trip over each other for screentime and lines.
There are seldom more than five main characters in a scene at once
Thanos is so overpowered right from the start that no fight scene involving him is tense at all.
What the fuck was that villain motivation
The plot has no cohesion. Things happen because the plot mandates them, not because they make sense.
The effects are good if it’s cg elements interacting with cg elements. Once a live actor or prop is introduced, it falls apart. It’s painfully clear the budget went to the cast. Just look at Bruce in the Hulkbuster at the end
The fact Marvel has no central story team is glaringly obvious.
Nobody in this movie is in character.
Overall? 2/10. Marvel really thought that was an acceptable movie to put out after ten years.

Guardvengers!
So what is the Guardvengers?
The Guardvengers are primarily the Color Guard at my high school. We decided that our team would be more team like if we were all superheros. The flag line is the Avengers, and then the rest of the flag line are Xmen (we stay in the Marvel universe). The Weapon line (rifles, Sabres) are DC heros. Batman and Flash and Wonder Woman and all them.
As for tumblrs, some of them have them some of them don't.
I'M THOR WHOOP WHOOP!! Hawkeye and Banner are over here. Black Widow doesn't have a tumblr yet, but we're working on it. Tony's right here. I keep Cap where I keep her because I love her and I ship it. (It being Thundershield).
POOOOLEEEYYY DEADPOOOL I SHIP THORPOOL TOO AOSIDFNASDFOINASDIOSDNFA
We also have non-Guard heros. SHIELD members like Coulson and Agent Hill who don't have tumblrs D: But Nick Fury and the Guy Playing Galaga do. :3
We write fanfiction and we have an ask blog here [x]

I just want to say that after starting to rewatch Agent Carter it's hilarious to me to imagine all of these events happening with a couple-of-months-old and then year-old baby Rose Carter-Rogers being carted around also
Peggy: *shows up pointing a gun at an offending individual in one hand and cradling a baby in another*
Offending individual: what the FUCK is happening here
Daniel: *also holding offending individual at gunpoint* Rosie only stops crying when Peg holds her and she has been crying at HQ for the past WEEK when Peg has been gone shut the FUCK up you have the right to remain silent PLEASE use it

A few notes on the GVS!verse version of Dracula’s youngest (in this iteration) son, Xarus:
because he’s absolutely smitten with Rose, (and wants to use her to make himself all powerful, loves when they fight, basically INCREDIBLY obsessed in SUCH an unhealthy way, and likes that they can go toe-to-toe and the fact that she could probably beat him) he..... has a general distaste for all of them. especially the powerful ones. however,,,, hurting them or targeting them is a last resort bc unlike a lot of older, more prominent villains he doesn’t constantly underestimate them OR Rose. he knows if he hurts them, then Rose will do everything in her power to kill him. he likes hating her too much for that to happen. he knows if he hurts ROSE, then he’s going to die painfully by the hands of not one person, but the whole fucking team. specifically Cas(buck).
Xarus is the kind of guy who knows just what he has to work for to succeed; fighting the Guardvengers isn’t going to get him anywhere. But tormenting their little captain is going to get her closer to breaking point, or at least close proximity. His end goal is to drain her dry (and possibly turn her into a vampire, he’s dabbled with the idea) bc the super soldier serum in her blood is 2x Steve’s, so it wouldn’t just heal him from the vampiric flaw of burning in the sun. It would make him more powerful than any other vampire on the planet, and even probably make him a threat more akin to Loki or Thanos (it’s a reach but) than to where he is now.
Ultimately, Xar is tired of living in the shadows. He’s tired of living subhumanly; not even just in accordance to the rest of human society. He wants to rise above, to prove he’s better than them(us) AS WELL as his siblings, as his father. Dracula is a name that everyone knows- and even his hated sister Lilith is technically more in line for the throne than he is. Janus, his older brother, is the most put together being in existence and has his father’s approval, his society’s approval, would PROBABLY have human society’s approval, and he even has Rose’s approval. Xarus is a being of wants.
OFC Xarus has more of a personality than ambition. He’s a history geek. He understands the logistics of ruling a society/kingdom and how to do it fairly. And ultimately, he and Rose are very similar. They’re legacy children, with BIG shoes to fill in the future. They deal with their inner demons, and sometimes lose control- which often ends in blood. Their childhoods were not normal, they had issues with loss and how to deal with their emotions.
But also ultimately, Rose chooses to try and be better. She does not kill unless it’s gone past subduing physically, she does not subdue physically until democracy has been attempted. That’s the big difference and it’s what makes she and Xarus so interesting. They’re cunning, mentally and physically powerful, epic foes of Hector-and-Achilles proportions. They have people who they’d kill for. Xarus’s little collection is more vapid and less actual friends/family than the GVS are to Rose (which sends him off the deep end eventually) but nevertheless.
Xar ended up being this manipulative, always-a-step-ahead, motivated, passionate character when initially he was just ‘evil for the sake of evil’. But he’s got power, status, responsibility, and his idea of a better world for his goals.

some fun stuff to consider now that i’ve actually seen infinity war: (w/ spoilers under the read more ofc)
steve and rose being reunited after everything and having expected the other to be dead/disintegrated, and literally just being close to each other for a decently long time; rose just holds his arm and lets her dad put an arm around her shoulders and just gently squeeze and stuff
the gvs having to retrace thanos’ footsteps to find secret knowledge on the infinity stones and weaknesses in the gauntlet so that they/their parents can defeat him and get everyone back; rose goes for the soul stone, because why the fuck not, and when she gets there she flips her SHIT when it’s red skull who’s guarding it. she ends up almost killing him, but turns out he’s letting her win- because he bestows her with the fact that she has no need to sacrifice the thing she loves most, no body no blood needed. not only has she suffered enough, but he reveals she’s going to lose the one thing she had back for good- and laughs at her, saying loss is in her bones and sacrifice is in her blood and her family will never know peace. she’s shaken to say the least.
rose has some serious ptsd after previously watching her friend/lover/whatever you may call him dracula turn to ash in the sun when he saved her from his son, xarus- and after seeing folks around her dissipate into dust she starts panicking. it’s not a pretty sight for the other gvs when they find her.
AND MY MOST FAVORITE THOUGHT SO FAR
the gvs had gathered together after they couldn’t contact their parents/uncles/aunts/etc and knew something horrendous was going on. when thanos snapped (lmaooooooo literally) they watched others disappear, and began frantically looking amongst themselves out of terror that they were all going to disappear, too. turns out, everyone is fine. until, of course, there’s a noise from rose and they all turn to see their leader and friend disintegrating from her hands to her arms and on- and her last words as she glances at her friends before her are a shaky ‘it’s going to be okay, i’m fine, i’m-’
((((((:
and then the aftermath of the gvs having to tell steve that she didn’t make it, and that he did indeed lose everyone closest to him in his life again- from his newest ally and friend t’challa to his childhood bff/boif who he’d just gotten back bucky and then learning his daughter, the last of his blood, who he probably would kill thanos for, is also gone

I saw you rb some Marvel stuff and I thought I'd ask how you feel about TFATWS!!!! And idk if you've watched Wendyviz or not, so if you have how you feel about that too. (Also a bit of a throwback but I hope Rose Rogers is doing well and I would pay money to see her kick J-Walker's ass!!!)
omg thank you!! yeah i haven’t really been into the mcu as of late bc of....... *gestures vaguely* everything. i haven’t seen w/viz and i’m not really planning on watching it ever bc of all of the, y’know... whitewashing and antisemitism and anti-romani sentiment and stuff. i even really hesitated watching tfatws bc i just cannot for the life of me trust the mcu to do things anymore but! honestly i’m enjoying the show so far! i would kill and die for sam wilson and mackie and stan’s chemistry is really fantastic, sharon carter finally getting some of the characterization she deserves, i find karli incredibly captivating despite them already doing the “but what if both extremes super evil?” bit. i respect john walker’s actor for making him literally so hate-able and daniel bruhl for playing zemo so well (even though i think it’s WACK that they’re rewriting baron zemo to be not hydra and just a general antagonist and i can’t get over that and never will, it’s incredibly fucked but i would be lying if bruhl wasn’t doing a good job)
i’ve also had the GVS-verse on the mind and rose rogers in particular since the show AND because i think rose would 100% be behind sam and supporting her closest uncle and his family. she respects bucky and treats him as family also don’t get me wrong but i’ve wanted to write rose and sam interacting because i think they’d just be a very wholesome duo- especially since i’ve also been doing plot lines about how she’s coming to terms with her having the x-gene and all of the mutant stuff and how lonely and isolated she’s gotten in-universe and interacting with sam while also having someone she can truly trust and put her reputation and skill behind. she trusts him just as much (if not possibly more) than steve at this point in-universe and ALSO she would HAPPILY fistfight john walker without hesitation (:
ADDITION: lamar deserved better. he absolutely fucking did.
thank you again for the ask, anon!!!!

What is the difference between Rose Rogers- from when she was living with Peggy in the 50's/60's, to when she first came out of the ice, to the present GVS!verse Rose? Like. Personality wise, outlook-wise, etc.
oooooooooh bruh thank you so very much for asking this ask
“Living with Mum”; she’s very idealistic, very listen-to-mother, though nearing the time she enters the ice and goes missing for about 50/55 years she really starts rebelling against her mother’s orders; believes in the law through and through, upholds it, doesn’t understand the nuances of it, but still has the best intentions; doesn’t understand her abilities to their fullest, is afraid of herself, is afraid of disappointing her mother, doesn’t realize the shoes she wants to step into (AKA Cap’s)
“Frosty Rebirth”; still bright-eyed and bushy tailed, naive, believes in the law through and through and upholds it and doesn’t understand the nuances of it, wants what’s best for everyone, overwhelmingly self-sacrificial, will kill herself over trying to make everyone happy, has a longing for adventure and mystery and intrigue but doesn’t follow it, thinks she knows best on a lot of things, has a righteous understanding of the world where everything is just and right and proper
“Current”; tired, understands that justice isn’t always served and that the law can be made inherently wrong and biased, still super self-sacrificial but less self-righteous, more worldly and knowledgeable, has indulged her adventurous side and will probably never stop (feels more alive sometimes, feels more free), has accepted her flaws and failings as well as her mental illnesses and shortcomings in general, tries to do what’s best for the whole rather than a bunch of individuals, more like the vodka aunt than the mom friend but has become a better leader because of it, knows folks better and can read people better, still blindingly caring, accepts the shoes she’s stepped into and wears them better (for the most part), upholds the ideals rather than the “solid”- “compromise where you can, but where you shouldn’t, don’t.” “plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and say, ‘no. you move.’“, etc.
essentially current!rose is so much more developed than her previous younger selves. not everything is black and white and the world sucks a lot more but she’s still a fierce optimist. she’s also learned her fuller potential and understands what she can accomplish (but doesn’t give herself enough credit, ever)
