'Brazil's 20th Century Studios has finally scheduled a release date for Todos Nós Desconhecidos (All of Us Strangers, in the original), one of the most praised films of 2023. As typically happens with releases that are targeted for the Oscars, it will only be released here close to the awards. The Brazilian date was March 7, 2024 .

Originally, the release was scheduled for February 29th. The film was delayed by a week.

Described as very emotional, All of Us Strangers stars Paul Mescal (Aftersun) and Andrew Scott (Fleabag). Shown at festivals such as Telluride, in the USA, and Rio de Janeiro, the film is among the most praised titles of 2023, and has been gaining traction to achieve nominations in both Best Film and acting categories for both actors.

Mescal, in particular, has already accumulated nominations. This year, he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for Aftersun , and has big projects in the works. The main one is Gladiator 2, where he will be the protagonist.

In All of Us Strangers, screenwriter Adam (Scott) has a fateful encounter with his neighbor, Harry (Mescal), in a nearly empty building in London. As he approaches his neighbor, Adam has a shocking revelation about his parents, who died many years ago.

Completing the cast are Jamie Bell , Claire Foy , Carolina van Whyte , Christian Di Sciullo , Guy Robbins , Gsus Lopez and Oliver Franks .

Andrew Heigh is the director and pens the script, based on the novel by Taichi Yamada . All of Us Unknown arrives in the US on December 22nd this year, but it will take a while to open in Brazilian cinemas. The national date was scheduled for February 29, 2024.'

MANK part en tête d’une course aux Oscars bien bizarre

Je me suis réveillé tantôt, j'ai parti la cafetière, puis en checkant Twitter, je me suis dit: "Ah oui, c'est vrai, les nominations des Oscars ont été dévoilées." 

 C’est la première année depuis une éternité où je ne suis pas au poste au moment où les nominations des Oscars sont annoncées. Je l’ai déjà dit, mais je suis assez désinteressé cette année par cette course aux remises de prix où sont honorés des films que presque personne n’a pu voir sur grand écran, pandémie oblige. 

Oui, il y a d’excellents films en lice, comme Nomadland, Sound of Metal et Promising Young Woman. Il y en a aussi que je vais essayer de voir prochainement, Minari notamment. Mais je n’ai pas l’impression qu’il y ait de gros titres qui ont enflammé la planète cinéma comme par exemple Parasite, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood ou même le divisif Joker l’an dernier.

J’ai vu Mank de David Fincher sur Netflix, j’ai trouvé ça correct, mais c’est loin d’être un film marquant pour moi. Je reviens quand même sur Nomadland, un de mes préférés de 2020 (même s’il ne sortira techniquement pas en salle au Québec avant avril 2021) - ce sera un bon moment de voir Chloé Zhao probablement remporter l’Oscar de la Meilleure réalisation. Il y a plein d’actrices et d’acteurs talentueux qui sont en nomination. Je serais content que Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross soient récompensés pour la musique de Soul. Je trouve ça plate que TENET de Christopher Nolan ait presque été complètement ignoré.

Mais dans l’ensemble, je suis assez indifférent face à tout ça. Je vais sûrement regarder le gala quand même, en espérant que ce ne soit pas un désastre avec des fenêtres Zoom comme les Golden Globes...

T'was the night before the Oscars...

Here we are again. The final stab at a decent award show ceremony amidst a global pandemic. I'm not getting my hopes up after the Golden Globes and SAG zoom calls, in fact I've read very little about the upcoming ceremonies since they announced they would not be using zoom... and then promptly reversed that decision.

It would seem no matter how late we delay the Oscars, I still find myself the night before the show scrambling to watch all the Best Picture nominees. It also hasn't slipped my mind all the promises I'd made to discuss my top films of 2020 and the things I would not have seen if not for this global catastrophe. Having had a number of conversations with fellow cinephiles, many have also found themselves very unenthused about award season contenders, dramatic pictures or anything with heavier content so to speak, or even movies in general. The struggle to concentrate is real.

I'm going to get right into my list of predictions with the caveats that I have yet to see Sound of Metal, and I have to watch the second half of Judas and the Black Messiah after I hit 'post' here. You will find as we go through, there's lots more I haven't seen.

Best Actor in a Leading Role - very strong contenders all around in this category, every one of them (I'm sure I'll have the same reaction about Riz Ahmed) made me say "holy shit" in amazement out loud

Olivia Colman (“The Father”) - another potentially unpopular comment... while I think Olivia Colman is one of the best actresses and most delightful people in existence, given her range and talent I don't she particularly excelled in The Father to make it an Oscar-worthy performance.

Amanda Seyfried (“Mank”)

Yuh-jung Youn (“Minari”) - Will win/should win

Best Animated Feature Film - I only saw one film so I have no basis for comparison

Estoy en CONIL de la FRONTERA [rebautizado por mi como COÑIL porque MUCHOS COÑOS de buen VER pero difícil PROBAR en Bares de COPAS ATESTADO de FUMATAS Y BORRACHAS con la MUSICA A TOPE ..pues me invito la RRPP DOMINICANA LADY amiga de una SEVILLANA con una AGENCIA DE MODELOS en mayo 2002 aprovechando que iba a correr la TUNE UP SEVILLE _NEW YORK MARATHON ganando un Dorsal que valen 600€ pero preferí correr la MARATON DEL PACIFICO DE MAZATLAN porque tanto vi un anuncio en una revista que me dieron en la 1/2 maratón del PARDO, porque iba a estar con la MEXICANA y porque NEW YORK ya lo conocia ..y LADY me presento a malogrado SERGIO LUYK y al atleta REYES ESTEVEZ en disco AVE NOX así como me llevo al CAFE DE LOS ARTISTAS bajo la antigua catarata de PLAZA DE COLON donde se puso NACHO CANO junto a mi que fue novio de la CRUZ o PENELOPE tras conocerla con 14 y 25 años en video LA FUERZA DEL DESTINO del cd DESCANSO DOMINICAL de MECANO y cuyo debut en solitario UN MUNDO SEPARADO POR EL MISMO DIOS tiene un video con fútbol de niños y JERUSALEN comprandeselo mi padre]..tras haber pasado junto a DOS HERMANAS [=fabrica de consoladores FLESH_LIGHT de un matrimonio Yankee con lo que se hace rico al distribuir para EUROPA], UTRERA [grupo LOS MUERTOS DE CRISTO, malogrado REYES, entrenador CAPARROS con el que me fotografie en Bar SAN ELOY en Sevilla y le salio LEUCEMIA haciendo debutar en Sevilla a Sergio RAMOS nacido en CAMAS y casado con pilar RUBIO que fue novia por 10 años del cantante de Hamlet=cd LA PUTA Y EL DIABLO, Malogrado PUERTA que murió con 22 años teniendo embarazada a su novia de 42 años que fue al funeral con camiseta de GSUS=JESUS y JESUS NAVAS nacido en LOS PALACIOS Y VILLAFRANCA junto a donde también pase..y que se iba a retirar pero lo han renovado hasta diciembre] y LEBRIJA [donde nació LOPEZ CARO=EXPENSIVE..ultimo entrenador de ZIDANE y que ascendió al filial del REAL MADRID a 2da DIVISION con mi ex vecino MANUEL TELLO JORGE cuyo padre fue el abogado de mi herencia así como con ALEX el ex novio por 13 años de Natalia de OT a la que dejó tras no querer o tener hijos con 39 o 40 años]

Luego volví en 2004 con Benjamin Antonio Moreno Silva y su novia Yolanda..y estando en la planta de arriba del atestado pub_terraza LA LUNA hablaba con la camarera de un homenaje a CAMARON DE LA ISLA [que dio su último concierto en colegio SAN JUAN EVANGELISTA redactor del APOCALIPSIS muriendo a continuación de CANCER siendo fumador con 41 años y habiendo cantado ese día SALUD es LO QUIERO YO QUIERO y también era autor de SALUD ANTES QUE DINERO]..y se acerco la modelo MARIA PINEDA [Famosa por ser novia de bailarín JOAQUIN CORTES] la cual murió de cancer con 54 años cuando se iba a casar y al amanecer del día en que iba a salir la procesión del CRISTO DEL MEDINACELLI de la que era devota]

En 2006 volví con RAMON VALLE_INCLAN y me llamó una noche PAULA JIMENEZ DE ARMAS diciendo que tenía una llamada perdida mía tras haber tenido SEXO con ella en el baño de la disco LA MANSION después de ver final EUROPA LEAGUE'06 que gano por 1era vez el SEVILLA tras clasificarse gracias al gol de malogrado PUERTA..y al salir un día del pub LA LUNA un grupo de VASCOS se lamentaba de que habían hecho 1000 KM de ida y mañana otros 1000 se habían gastado un dineral y no habían echado un POLVO..y cuando estuvimos en adjunta playa de EL PALMAR [=PERDER/MORIR..por la batalla de TRAFALGAR donde los ingleses intentaron remolcar A GIBRALTAR el buque insignia español o el SANTISIMA TRINIDAD se les hundio]..fotografié en una barandilla de la playa una pintada con MUERTE A FLORENTINO

También pasé junto a EL PALMAR DE TROYA que tiene su propio VATIKANO a raíz de supuestas Apariciones marianas en los 60 y donde veneran una Estatua de FRANFO

He comido un RISOTO con HIGOS..riquisimo..luego vi que PUNTA DEL ESTE está hermanada desde el V Centenario de su colonización con LEBRIJA [Sevilla] donde nació LOPEZ CARO [=Expensive] q dirigio su último partido en el Estadio BERNABEU [temp. 05/06] como entrenador de REAL MADRID contra VILLARREAL [=donde vi a VIRGINIA MAESTRO en mayo 22] para luego dirigir su último partido al Real MADRID en SEVILLA o contra FC SEVILLA..además fue el entrenador del equipo filial o CASTILLA cuando con mi ex_vecino Manuel Tello Jorge ascendieron a 2da DIVISION x lo q ficho x el LEVANTE como haría LOPEZ CARO para la temporada 2006/07 tras estar extrañamente solo 1 mes en el RACING DE SANTANDER o antes de empezar la COMPETICION.

The publication builds on the ethos of showcasing new short films made in our area, and giving a voice to filmmakers. It consists of a full catalogue of the films screened at our events in 2016, including full credits and information on where to find them online. Importantly, it is also a collection of texts by twelve of their makers: we’ve asked them to write about their practice, themes in their work, learnings, and fascinations. Discussing mental health, communities beneath the new London skyline and homelessness, the publication also encompasses accounts of diverse artistic processes and practical production experiences and tips, poetic texts, and intimate stories of extreme journeys that making their films took their makers on.

This publication is a unique anthology of short films made in North East London, a book of experiences, knowledge and ideas, and a work of art in itself. With its every page fully illustrated in response to the films and texts, the publication is our collaboration with the filmmaking community. Our contributors include festival-touring filmmakers, experimental artists, as well as a first-time director. They are: Gsus Lopez, Kasia Nalewajka, Umut Gunduz, William Walsh, Somwell S Ellett, Emily McDonald, Katia Ganfield,Jess E Ayles, Joseph Wilson, Oliver Walton, Klearjos Papanicolaou and Tom Clarkson. For this winter collection Simon Fortin (illustrator and artist) from Montreal, made a collaboration designing 3 t-shirts and a mask. He created 3 unrealistic worlds full of fantasy, cuteness and love. The illustrations are handmade and mixed with a digital collage as a background.
