Song + HC Ask Game for Gruvia 💙
Hey there, Anon-Friend! Thank you so much for the ask and for playing my song + headcanon game! Gruvia is a fun pairing! 🥰
Your song and headcanons are below the cut! I apologize if they're too unexpected. 🙈
I actually really like Gruvia as a ship, but I'll be honest with you that the first song that came to my mind when I saw this ask was "Taylor The Latte Boy," and now all I can think about is a Gruvia Coffee Shop AU where Gray is an edgy barista who Juvia admires from afar. 😅😂 So I guess that's what we're going with here...
Gruvia Coffee Shop AU Headcanons:
Gray is working his way through university by working part-time as a barista at a coffee shop. Most of his classes are in the afternoons, so he tends to work mornings which are the busiest time of day for the shop. After a while, he starts to recognize some of the regulars who come in, including Juvia, who he thinks is very pretty (though he probably would never admit it).
Juvia is also a university student but in a completely different program (she is studying to be a teacher whereas Gray is studying engineering), and she comes into the coffee shop every morning to pick up a latte before her classes which are all in mornings. She has admired the "edgy and mysterious" barista Gray for quite some time but is too shy to properly introduce herself.
One day on a strangely slow morning, Gray starts a conversation with Juvia while he makes her coffee and the two are properly introduced. They learn that they attend the same university, and Gray mentions that he is in a band.
It turns out that Gray is in the same band that Juvia's long-time friend, Gajeel, had recently joined, and they run into each other again when Juvia goes to see Gajeel play. They get to talking and really hit it off.
Juvia is clearly very smitten, but it takes Gray a while to admit to himself how he feels about her and that he would like to go out with her. For a while, they mainly just chat at the coffee shop or when Juvia comes to the band's events.
Meanwhile, Gray always gives Juvia extra cream, sugar, foam, or flavor syrups in her coffee, but other than that, he tries to be pretty discreet about his feelings.
Eventually, however, Gray can no longer lie to himself, and knowing the university semester is about to end and worrying that he will lose touch with Juvia over the summer and miss his chance with her forever, he finally asks her out on a date (but he doesn't take her out for coffee 😉).

First gruvia story letsss goooooooo
Gruvia florist au
@jekde04 @gruviyasharuto up right now
If only she decided to close the shop that day, then maybe she wouldn’t be going through the heartache at that moment. Bora was looking for flowers for his sick aunt but decided to take a detour into Juvia’s life. For a week he came into the shop and used the worst pickup lines known to man but hey, it worked. Her lack of confidence and conservative sense of style seemed to turn guys off but it appeared to have the opposite effect on Bora.
Well that was a story for another time. What mattered was that Juvia felt like death and took a look around the shop. No one had come in for hours and it was always slow on Tuesdays. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt if she closed early…
Ugh. Let that be the last time I go out drinking with Cana. Rubbing her eyes did no such trick as to force the remains of her hangover away. Not to mention the impending list of errands that needed to get done. First there was calling the vendors and confirming the deliveries she had for the week then of course inventory had to be done. Usually she would leave it for the remainder of her shift but the bluenette needed something to distract her.
“I’m sure the customers wouldn’t mind if Juvia decided to take a break.” Without any further thought she went to the back and plugged in one of her earbuds. Listen, if anyone were to come in then she would be able to hear the jingle of the bell clearly. The florist tied her hair up into a high ponytail while glancing around her. Now where was that inventory list?
.
If you wanted to, you would never leave me. If I still wanted to, I could get inside your mind.
..
“Hello? Is anyone here?”
“No need to shout I’m sure they heard the bell,” a male voice could be heard and it sounded like he had the slightest tone of annoyance in his tone.
“Well you never know! What if they were hurt or something and can’t come to the front? What would you say then hmm?”
Alright. Before it got to the point where it became eavesdropping Juvia ripped off her earpiece and stuffed it in her apron pocket. Please tell me you only need directions I just wanna go home.
“Hi there! How can I help you…” Juvia dragged on. My lord this man was something else. Dark locks that caressed his forehead. Stormy grey eyes that could control the room if he wanted to.
Speaking of those eyes, they were staring right back at her.
“Hi there! We were wandering around and I couldn’t help but notice you have the most beautiful flowers on your storefront!” Oh wow she’s gorgeous. She had long blonde hair and the biggest brown eyes she had seen! Juvia almost wondered if there was a club for attractive people that she didn’t know about and if there were, she couldn’t help but think if this mystery man was a member.
“-so would you mind showing us your portfolio?” This blonde woman had her hands clasped together and against her chest and a blinding smile on her face. Seriously! Both of these people are distractingly beautiful!
“O-Oh of course. Please follow Juvia this way.” Said woman pulled a smile and slipped into her professional mode. Juvia motioned for the woman— oh yeah she didn’t come alone— and meekly looked up at the man to follow her to the corner of the store where a table and some chairs were set up.
When Anemone was nearing its opening day, the 26 year old struggled in deciding where to place her, as she liked to call it, conference table. Having it near the back where one could easily peer into her backroom simply appeared inappropriate. The store itself used to be a coffee shop so the middle of the room just took up space and no matter what decorations Juvia on or near it, it just couldn’t stop looking awkward to her. She then settled for her display to go center but that still left her with the table. So she did what she could and brought Gajeel over to help. After explaining the situation all he did was groan and pulled the table to the corner next to the window. Now all she had to do was put the goddamn chairs there, add those hanging vines or some bullshit and it’d look fine so stop worrying about stupid shit and start thinking about— you know what? Doesn’t matter. Back to business.
The couple sat themselves while Juvia went behind the counter and pulled out a moderately sized baby blue binder along with a couple others. In it contained images of her previous works with other clients and to be completely honest, she was proud of them all. Despite only being open for one year, Anemone was a fairly successful shop.
Being a florist was absolutely not on Juvia’s list of career choices when she was a child, but circumstances changed which eventually left her on this path. So far, so good. A better life was provided for herself and Gajeel and all they had to do was sell their soul away. Worth it.
“Pardon Juvia for not asking sooner but what is your name?” She asked while making her way over to the pair. Setting the binders down and seating herself, Juvia looked to the blonde first.
“Ah, where are my manners? I’m Lucy. Lucy Heartfilia. Well, soon to be Mrs.” Lucy giggled behind her hand. “And this is my fiance,” a motion to the man, “Gray Fullbuster.”
Fiance. Figures.
The ebony hair man, or Gray she supposed, uncrossed his arms from where he was seated and stretched out his hand.
“Nice to meet you.” She met him halfway there with a smile.

Lavender Rose meaning: love or enchantment at first sight

Ahh, I haven’t written fanfiction in years! Let me tell you something, just writing this short chapter has been a ride. I love gruvia and have been reading them for so long so I decided that I might just post a little something. Please let me know what you think!

Hello friends and followers!
7000 follows stuck up on me a bit out of the blue and that number just keeps going up (as of posting I’m sitting just shy of 7.2K), so I thought I’d do something fun as a thank you for all of the amazing support I’ve received over the years!
Here’s what you do!
Send me an ask (on or off anon) with an option from A (characters and ships), B (au settings), and C (optional dialogue prompts)! There are four fandoms listed (BNHA, Fairy Tail, ATLA, and FMA), eight subcategories for settings (including canonverse), and 50 different dialogue prompts to choose from. You must specify if you want your request to be sfw or nsfw. I’ll be working on these as quickly as I can, but I’m prone to writing longer fics, so keep that in mind!
Again, a huge thank you to everyone that decided to follow this old blog of mine, whether you’ve been here since the beginning, or just recently! The support I’ve received from writing for different fandoms over the years has meant the world to me, and I probably wouldn’t be where I am now without it <3

New tag game!!
List 5 fanfiction pet peeves - things that annoy you when reading rather than writing. They can be perfectly justified or completely idiotic; please don't target specific writers!! And remember, this is all just for fun, you don't need to stop doing anything listed because someone said they don't like it. Have fun!
1|| When a character is referred to as 'the male' or 'the female'. It just seems really odd??
2|| Overuse of the word 'slightly'. If you ever read wattpad fanfiction, it'll be there!!
3|| Warped characterisation. Sometimes characters need to change a little to show growth or a change in setting (AUs or timeskips, for example) but when they're practically unrecognisable it's quite annoying.
4|| Shoehorned sex. Obviously if you're reading a 'lemon' it's gonna be there, but sometimes I just wanna read a coffee shop au and at this point they baRELY KNOW EACH OTHER-
5|| Sudden death. Not when a character dies, but when it hasn't been updated in a year and a half and there's not even an author's note.
Tags!! (please keep it alive guys I'm begging)

Gruvia Band AU: Part 4
Supposed Date
"Why are you so pissy today?" Natsu groaned as he slammed his head on his mic in frustration." You keep rushing me and I can't work in these conditions!"
"Well excuse me Natsu, if I want to go to lunch! You messing up every damn note in the song is wasting my time."
"Someone lit a fire under his ass." Gajeel snorted.
Gray whipped his head around to glare at Gajeel and Gajeel glared right back.He would never be intimidated by a guy who stripped in his sleep.
" Can you guys just give it a rest, so we can go?" Jellal groaned. Natsu smirked, as he winked at Jellal.
"What, ya meetin' up with a chick?" Jellal turned a rosy red before he turned away, mumbling,"I'm not meeting with anyone."
Natsu stared at him a minute before shrugging his shoulders.
"Well I have nothing to rush for, Gray. But I sure don't wanna stay here."
"Then let's go already. I have things to do." Gray said rolling his eyes.
"Like meet up with girls." Gajeel coughed, as Gray glared again. Then again, he wasn't exactly wrong this time. He was still being an ass though.
He was running late. Twenty minutes to be exact. And he was a bit worried, wondering if Juvia left already.
He hoped Juvia would have waited for him, but in his mind he knew she had probably been left. He knew she had a busy schedule, same as him. If that idoit Natsu didn't waste all his time babbling, maybe he would have been on time.
As he rounded the corner, he had even bumped into a couple of people, then continued running. He finally made it to the small coffee shop, and looked inside the tinted window. He scanned the red cushioned couches for blue hair. Black hair, green hair, pink hair?!
Gray burst inside the building to see Natsu sitting with Juvia at a table, messily gobbling down a piece of cake while Juvia sat across from him, giggling at his hearty appetite.
"What the hell are you doing here, Natsu??!" Gray snarled at him through gritted teeth. Natsu finally looked up from his meal before meeting Gray's eyes with suprised ones.
"Yo! I just saw Juvia in the coffee shop by herself so I decided to say hi. Besides I had to ask a couple of questions."
"They were about Lucy!" Juvia grinned and winked at Gray.
It felt like all hell broke loose in Gray's mind. This was supposed to be his date. Natsu had already made him late, and now the asshole was ruining his chance at spending time with Juvia.
"Great. you can leave now Nastsu!"
" But I didn't finish my cake. Besides Juvia already ordered me another piece of cake. Unlike you guys, she likes keeping me from starving." Natsu rolled his eyes.
Gray felt the anger boiling inside of him, and he was preparing to fight with him then and there. But there was one thing that was stopping him. Juvia was watching him, and he didn't want her to think he was violent or anything.
He sighed as Juvia smiled up at him and patted the seat beside her excitedly. Somehow Gray tripped on his shoe as he was getting in the seat, and fell on top of Juvia.
He caught himself before he fell, caging Juvia in between the window and his body. Juvia looked on with wide eyes as a scarlet blush tainted her pale cheeks. Her blushing made him blush as he backed up, awkwardly sitting back.
"Sorry."he mumbled.
"I-it's ok, Gray~sama, it was an accident." She smiled, as she unconsciously twirled a strand of her blue curls .
"Um, you guys ok? Cause ya'll are making things pretty awkward, ya' know?" Natsu commented, with a face full of the new piece of cake he had just gotten.
"Why are you even still here?" Gray growled. Natsu ignored Gray's comment before turning to Juvia.
" Oh by the way, I like the dress you have on Juvia." Natsu said.
"Oh thank you Natsu-san. It was a bit pricey but definitely worth the money."
Gray narrowed his eyes at Natsu. Gray should have complimented her before Nastsu, so he would have gotten gentleman points.
" I think your dress is pretty too." Gray mumbled.
Juvia said a quick 'thanks' before starting to give pointers to Natsu about to how to talk and dress to get Lucy to agree on a date with him.
" Now, Lucy likes guys that are the kinda 'mature, dark and handsome'. Now you aren't exactly like that, but we can work on it! Kinda like...Gray~sama."
Hold it. Did she just call him handsome?
"What's your type Juvia?" Gray asked, his ego now inflated.
Juvia put a finger to her lips in concentration. Her very pink lips that were very thick and soft and- Wait what.
"Juvia thinks...Juvia doesn't know. She has never been in a serious relationship, unlike Gray~sama."
" Really? Well I mean, I have never been in a serious relationship either." Gray replied.
"Wow Gray! Then all those girls must have been one night stands! That's impressive. I just thought you broke up with each of them every other day." Natsu commented in interest.
This dumb fuck. Gray gave Natsu his deadliest stare and kicked him hard under the table.
"Damn Gray! Why are you kicking people!?"
"Sorry, accident." Gray smiled, although his narrowed eyes said differently.
" Juvia has heard about the poor girls that Gray~sama has abandoned-"
"They weren't abandoned-"
"Juvia just feels for the girls. Thinking that you were important to someone and then being kicked out of their life, you know? Juvia used to have a boyfriend...that did the same to her..."
Juvia started to tear up at the mention of it. Gray mentally panicked. What was he supposed to do with crying girls?
"It's ok Juvia. He was probably a jerk anyway. Your better off without him." Natsu commented, nodding his head knowingly.
Damn it, this asshole stole his thunder again!
"You know what? You guys can have a good time enjoying yourselves. I'm leaving. I didn't come here to be judged by my lifestyle anyway." Gray huffed, as he stormed out the cafe.
He stuffed his hands inside his pockets as he walked down the street, as he replayed the scene in his head.
His anger got the better of him. Again. The dumbass flame breath had a greater chance of getting with Juvia than him. Probably even Jellal too. You know what? Who fucking cares? She was way out of line anyway.
" Wait Gray~sama!"
Oh no. Gray started to walk a bit faster. There was no way he would get caught up with her again. Pretty or not, it wasn't worth the trouble. Fuck that connection as well, he had plenty of other ladies that he had...sexual connections with. Practically the same thing.
"Gray~sama."
Gray jumped suprised, as Juvia was already at his side."How the hell are you so damn fast??!"
"Sorry for scaring you Gray~sama. Even though it was a bit funny..." Juvia chuckled. Gray couldn't help the embarrassment from showing on his face.
"Yeah, yeah. What did you need? I thought you and Natsu wanted to hang out or somethin'. " Gray asked, of course not interested because why would he be?
"Of course, Gray~sama. Natsu-san is very funny." She smiled.
Wow she didn't get sarcasm did she?
"Well why are you talking to me then?"
"Because Natsu is off to ask Lucy-san on a date. That means we can finally be alone."Juvia purred, her seductive blue eyes staring into his dark ones. The way she said it....sent shivers up his spine.
"So let's go, Gray~sama! Juvia wants to go to the movies!"
"Don't you have practice for the rest of the day?" Juvia smirked.
"Trust Juvia. When Lucy-san leaves, practice is over. That's if she agrees anyway. You should thank Natsu-san for being brave and asking her. Oh my gosh, they would make such a cute couple!" She yanked on his arm excitedly.
"Oi!"
"My bad Gray~sama." She giggled as she turned around and stuck her tongue out playfully.
Well he was wrong. He was still along for the ride, he guessed, and it was probably going to go off the rails. But as long as the ride was fun, right?
Edit: I hope you at least enjoyed some of my trash
Here you go @alfys-world thank you for reading! Im sorry for taking so long

The Thorn of a Rose
hello! This is a Valentine’s Day piece I wrote for a contest in my discord server. It’s a Nalu x Gruvia server so if you’d like to join I'll leave the link here Genre: fluff, lemon mentions, little hurt/comfort with Lucy being slightly sad, modern au
read on ff.net here
Lucy eyes flittered open as she stirred from sleep, her dull stare meeting wilted roses that were placed in a vase on her bedside table. The blonde removed her naked body from the sticky mess under the sheets and let her legs hang off the edge of the bed. The roses her father sent her stared at her in disgust - her bed mate not even stirring as she tore her gaze from them and padded her way across her apartment in the nude.
The shower washed away the slick feeling on her skin as she stepped into the boiling water. She scrubbed at the marks her fling had left and the dried up substance between her thighs that were the only remainder of their short and uneventful night. Well, for Lucy that was all it was. Another disappointing flirt from the bar that managed to sneak into her bed when she had drowned herself in alcohol. They were always the same.
Her eyes were heavy as she dressed herself, her cheeks sunken and void of colour making her look like death. She had tried to apply make up, but everyone in the office already knew what a sorry of an excuse for a woman she was so she stopped trying. It was near impossible to not hear the rumours that the younger receptionists whispered to each other. Lucy sighed, her father was right about one thing and that was that people did know just what type of girl she was - an easy pass after a bit of buttering up and a glass to drink.
When she left her bathroom her one night stand was gone, but Lucy was happy he had. It was almost torture when the white knights tried to stay to have breakfast and then insist that they’d see her again. Which they didn’t. It was even more degrading than being a simple quick fuck that was later forgotten about - like they were teasing her with the romance she could never even come close to having that was filled with second dates and something more than just sex.
It left a sour taste in the woman’s mouth that deepened her frown as she briskly walked to work. Though, that frown was nothing compared to the scowl that set itself in stone on her face as she got her morning coffee. Everything was fine until the cute young guy working the register called out a quick ‘Happy Valentines Day’ as she turned to leave.
It wasn’t necessarily the fact that he had mentioned it to her, but that he had reminded her that this Thursday was the holiday that she loathed. She knew it was coming - the roses from her father being a reminder that it was close as he sent flowers to her for every bloody holiday. To remind her that he was ready to accept her when she cleaned up her act. However, she had been so caught up in trying to disappear from her own life that she’d forgotten everything.
She looked around her and scoffed, the deep red foil balloon hearts mocking her for not noticing them as they lined basically every shop. Her heart coiled in on itself and it was hard to breathe as she realised just how many happy couples were around. It made her sick and she picked up her pace as she nearly jogged to the office - hoping to drown herself with some spiked coffee and then have a snooze at her desk, or a mental breakdown.
When Lucy reached the sanctuary of her desk, she blew a loud sigh of relief only to have her momentary peace interrupted by the sing song voice of her co worker and desk buddy, Juvia Lockser.
“Good morning~” she chirped as she peeked her head out from behind her computer but then gasped immediately when she laid eyes on the blonde that was slumped in front of her, “what happened, Lucy? Juvia thinks you look worse than usual.”
The exhausted woman looked up and blew strands of hair from her face as she shot Juvia an unappreciative stare.
“I’m just peachy thank you very much,” Lucy grumbled sarcastically. She loved Juvia, the woman she had been working with for almost two years, to bits but sometimes she was just too honest for her own good.
Juvia cheeks tinted when she realised how rude she sounded but she pushed past it, a huge smile forming on her face as her blue eyes took on a sparkly look as she nearly yelled, “Oh, and Happy Valentines Day!”
She was also just too damn happy as well.
Lucy wailed, “Please don’t mention it.” Her head hit the desk again, a whine escaping her as she wondered how hard she’d have to do it to be knocked out, or better yet dead.
“Juvia knows you are having a rough time since you’re last break up,” she sighed, “but today is not time to be sulking! We must set forth and sail and see where our hearts take us.” The desk buddy Lucy had cupped her cheeks as she got a dreamy look about her that made the blonde want to roll her eyes. The mention of her ex stung as the dark cloud rolled over her mind as she recalled how he had broken off their engagement just a month before the wedding.
“Well I don’t know where your boat is heading, but I hope mines into a ditch,” she murmured.
Juvia’s scolded her with a shake of her head. “I do hope you at least remembered a gift for the game of secret Valentine today.”
Lucy froze.
“I thought I asked to not be included in that shit,” she hissed as she leaned forward, eyebrows furrowed.
“Well,” Juvia said simply, “you have the pink card of who you’re meant to be getting something for on your desk.” Her blue eyes looked to the said pink card pinned to her stand up notice board along with many other documents and sticky notes.
Lucy reached for the envelope before ripping it open. Her face paling even more as she read the name of a man in the office scrawled in glittery silver cursive.
“Who the fuck is Max?” She asked bewildered at the woman across from her.
“Oh, he works on the upper floor close to maintenance,” Juvia stated. Her face wincing at Lucy’s foul language so early in the morning.
Lucy pulled at her hair as she groaned, “I don’t have anything!” The woman moped as her head once again slammed onto the wooden desk beneath her where it seemed to be taking up permanent residence. Why did she have to stuck in a stupid work game to buy some loser something. Did maintenance even count as co workers? All they did was keep the place tidy by sweep-
“I’ve got it!” She shouted before she quickly scurried out of her seat, whilst Juvia stared at her retreating form as if she had finally lost it.
.
.
.
Lucy cringed at the broom that was wrapped in newspaper and duct tape when she saw the many other presents that lined the offices pigeon holes where they collected mail or important documents from the bosses. Some had small pink boxes while others were stuffed with large bouquets and chocolates, but they all looked better than her disaster of a present no matter the effort they had put it in.
A sigh left her lips as she taped a large paper sign to the top of the broom that just read ‘MAX’ in capital letters. It wasn’t her fault, the blonde had specifically told the managers assistant Mira that she wanted no part in this stupid game! So with a shrug the blonde turned around to then crash right into someone.
A bag of chocolates fell to the floor and a cuss filled the air as the person tried to readjust their hand on the small bouquet of red and white carnations. Lucy immediately ducked down to help picked up the chocolates, lucky that only a few had spilled from the bag.
“Lucy!” he nearly shouted as she pushed the chocolate into his hand with the flowers, the other holding a hot takeaway cup of coffee that she was glad hadn’t spilt all over her.
“Uh, hi?” she muttered while she eyed him, his pink hair and dark green eyes not sparking anything familiar. She didn’t really know anyone that well in the office so she didn’t know how he had known her name. However, his sudden blush had her wanting to crawl into a hole.
Fuck, have I slept with this guy??
“I didn’t think you’d be at work this early,” he blurted as his eyes looked past her and at the many presents that filled up the pigeon hole.
Lucy’s eyebrows narrowed when she saw he wasn’t looking at her face. It made her angry that he couldn’t even give her enough respect to actually look at her when he spoke to her. Not to mention that the gifts that he held caused a spike of envy to shoot through her body.
“Listen here, buddy” she seethed while she stood up straighter, “I don’t know what we had but could you atleast grow up and treat me with a bit of respect.”
His eyes snapped to her’s in a surprised look. “What are you talking about, Lucy? You’ve really gotten even weirder since I saw you nearly beat up the front door.”
She blinked. Then again.
“Oh, Natsu!” she cried and he gave her a puzzled look. “I’m sorry I’ve had a really shit morning,” she pointed her thumb at the many presents behind her, “I completely forgot this entire thing was on and just, you know.”
“Is that broom wrapped in newspaper your present?”
“Yes.”
Natsu cheeks puffed as he tried to hold in his laughter, but lost it a second after as he bent over and nearly spilled his coffee all over the floor.
Lucy tried to look annoyed but the soft smile that pulled on her lips gave her away. She remembered him now. It had been a week after her fiance had called off the wedding. Lucy had taken time off work, but when she came back she would work overtime to try and distract herself from the cold and lonely apartment that she had to return home to. It was on one of those night where she had stayed back that Natsu ran into her trying to break the glass of the automatic doors because it wouldn’t open. After telling her to put the chair down and showing her the side door for night employees (the sliding doors were shut off after 7pm) they talked while they walked home and even stopped to get ice-cream together at the request of Natsu. Lucy hadn’t seen much of him since, only a grin and wave offered if they passed each other.
Lucy huffed, “I didn’t even ask to be in this! It was actually pretty smart last minute improvisation on my part if I do say so myself.”
Natsu grinned down at her, “No, you’re just a weirdo.”
The blonde’s eye twitched as she crossed her arms, “Well, sorry I’m not planning a highschool confession,” Lucy gestured to the gifts in his arm, “You look damn near ready to propose with all that cheesy stuff!”
“What?” his expression growing worried, “You don’t like this?”
A deep blush coated her cheeks as she turned away. An assortment of hand picked flowers and a bag full of different types of chocolate? No, Lucy didn’t like this. She loved it. Her inner child swooning at his nervous eyes and the pout that rested on his face.
“I mean,” she bit out, “What girl wouldn’t like that?” Her gaze soften, as she let go of the sour clip to her tone. It really wasn’t her place to put him down because of her own issues. “You did a good job.”
Natsu smiled, “Well that’s great because these are for you!” He said while pushing them into her arms.
“Happy Valentines Day!”
Her brown eyes bulged as she took the present.
“Oh, and I also booked us to go paintballing just cause you know… You don’t have to go, but eh yeah.”
She looked up at the sheepish young man as he scratched the back of his neck while looking away from her, digging his face in his scarf. It wasn’t like Lucy hadn’t received a valentine’s day present before, but her eyes watered as she looked back down to the soft petals of the carnations that he had given her. Maybe it was because there wasn’t no incentive that this was all to get her in bed with him, or maybe she had just been so wrapped in telling herself that there was nothing left for her in love that she had driven herself insane. Either way, Lucy couldn’t help the light feeling in her chest as she gave Natsu an ear splitting grin.
“I can’t wait to kick your ass.”
Natsu looked up, eyes wide. “Seriously? Yosh! I’m all fired up.”
Lucy laughed and teased him while they walked out of the break room, both with large smiles on their faces before getting back to their respective desks.
And when she finished work she would go home and dance around her apartment to sappy songs instead of down at the club. She would wash her sheets and hum with delight as she cooked herself dinner. The wilted roses would be in the bin and while she went to sleep the carnations would be in the vase on her bedside table - to be blooming bright the next morning as she opened her eyes and a smile would force its way on her face.
And Lucy would be happy.
I hope you liked it! Thank you UwU

A/N:
May I first say: welcome to THB chapter 3. So, I’m hoping to be more frequent but I also started college yesterday so we’ll see. MEANWHILE, THB is changing. We’re going to have a sort of interactive story. At the end of this chapter you’ll have two choices for the main pairings of the chapter and depending on the choice picked the story line changes. So, it’ll be based on a voting system (sorry in advance) I’ll give voting about a week and then the tally will happen and i’ll begin the chapter. (the options are already planned out I just need the winning option to write the chapter) ALSO THIS STORY IS FRAZZLED AND SO AM I SO LETS DO THIS GUYS
FF.net -- AO3
UPDATE: AO3 ADDED AND TWO DAYS LEFT TO VOTE
Lucy watched her friend contemplate her options. Would she chase her soulmate, or would she allow herself to fall in love naturally? Socially, she’d be expected to locate her soulmate and then after a discussion they’d begin to date. However, Lucy’s group was a bit different since the choice was at the discretion of their friend. Gray flip-flopped between finding his soulmate and just doing as he pleased. While Levy was blatantly trying to find hers. She wanted romance out of a novel and Lucy could respect that.
She fiddled with the cuff of her coat as she considered her own situation. The blonde never knew what she wanted to do. He was just a pen away but Lucy was always too scared to ask. Too scared and too unsure of herself. The blonde didn’t want to meet him with half-hearted feelings.
And currently, that was her entire life. Half-baked decisions while running through the typical motions of general life activity. In other words, seasonal depression. She stopped, opting to focus in on her dear friend’s dilemma with hopes that she could help in some way. In any way, really.
“I’ll look. It would give me the opportunity to meet him.” and then we can go from there, the words were unspoken but Erza didn’t really need to say them in front of the trio. They got it. They understood quite well what it meant to find a soulmate. They also wouldn’t fault her for giving up later down the line, though that would be unheard of considering who Erza was as a person.
----------------------------------
It had been nearly two weeks, TWO WEEKS, of searching and Lucy, was beginning to lose herself in the frustration of her own inability to help her friend. Pale fingers clenched the handle of the porcelain cup she was sipping her orange-lemon black tea from. The aroma was strong and not at all calming but there wasn’t really anything she could do at this point. A dragged out sigh left her lips.
“Miss, is something bothering you?” the question came from a young man roughly her own age with dark blue hair and a red tattoo above and under his right eye. It was strange to see a man with these features employed in a cafe but none of the patrons seemed to mind.
“No, it’s nothing.” this was a personal issue. There was no need to bother a stranger. However, she did have someone she could trust. Her bag popped open with ease revealing several writing utensils. It looked like the kind of pack a serious writer would carry. There was even a light pink laptop for all her useless doogling needs.
He gave a curt nod and returned to his station with a quick word to the bashful pinkette behind the counter. She tugged her sleeve up and began to write.
‘Who knew searching for a soulmate could be so challenging.’ She scribbled onto her skin in blue ink.
Her soulmate was already aware of the situation and was plenty supportive of her efforts. Her eyes flitted as pink hair disappeared behind a door to what was surely his first, or maybe last, break. He’d already been there when she showed up so she couldn’t be sure.
‘I’m sure your friend is happy your helping’ His lack of care for the differences of you’re and your had always bothered her but she let it go for now.
‘But’ she paused, trying to decide her next statement.
“It feels like I’m not doing enough,” she whispered under her breath.
“For?” she jumped from the male voice behind her.
“Shit! Sorry ‘bout that.” Natsu sat across from her, wild hair tousled in every direction, as though he’d maybe raked his fingers through it.
“No, it’s fine.” she didn’t say much else on it but did pull her sleeve back down while hoping he didn’t catch the flash of blue lettering.
“What was on your arm?” he asked, not admitting to the hope that sparked in his mind.
“Novel notes.” she lied, hopefully, expertly.
“OH! You’re writing a novel?” so was his soulmate. He wanted to grab her arm and look at the blue on her skin. But that would be crazy. He wanted to get closer to her not scare her away.
Yes,” her answer was short even as she awkwardly looked away from him. Maybe she just didn’t want him to see her work and he supposed that was okay too.
“Wanting it to be a surprise, huh?” a soft smile graced his features. Lucy, glad for him understanding her false situation, let out a sigh of relief.
“Exactly! It wouldn’t be fun if you know parts of the story already!” she waved a finger at him with a small giggle and Natsu Dragneel swore he almost melted.
“Could I… get your number?” That was a surprise. He waited in shocked silence as the gears in his mind turned and he prepared for her rejection.
“Sure.” she agreed, easily and without hesitation, much to her own surprise. The two sat in silence for what felt like an eternity before Lucy fumbled for her device and held it out to him.
“Here! Type it in and call so you have my number too.” she waited until the buzz of his phone came on and she watched him fish a phone from his own. Mavis, she wished girls could have pockets too.
“Oh! You have an iPeach too!” that meant they could even video chat if they wanted. Two weeks of flirting and this is where the pair ended up. She felt as though she was cheating on her best friend – her soulmate. This wasn’t normally acceptable. Still, she felt electricity flow through the two as their fingers brushed when her phone was returned to her.
“I know. You’ve got the newest one too. So do I.” the pinkette waved his phone slightly before shoving it back to his pocket while standing. Natsu Dragneel would never admit he bought this phone specifically because she had one. He was due for an upgrade but it would be a lie if she hadn’t affected his choice at all.
“I’ll talk to ya soon then!” he nearly skipped through the door to go back behind the counter for his job. Just as he sauntered back to the blenders in his dirty apron there was a ding on her phone:

Hey :D
A/N:
Hello! Here are the options:
NaLu: Ice Cream Date or Midnight Video Call?
Jerza: Run Into Each Other At THE Park or Meet At The Coffee Shop?
Sorry this chapter is so short. I’ve been working on this system for a bit to figure out a good way to make THB 1, get updated faster and 2, more unique and I think this is a great way to do that. Plus, i’ve been wanting to try something like this for a while. Also, next chapter goes more into what Natsu is involved in and a little Gruvia so keep a lookout. and we meet wendy depending on the choice you make ;) choose wisely
So, shoot your choice my way via: AO3, FF.net, Asks, or DMs

summary: Finding herself thrown out and drunk after a party wasn’t the way Lucy expected her night to go. After blacking out and waking up in a room with three men, she has a decision to make: will she stay or will she go? Loosely based on New Girl. Roommates!AU
Lucy had a bit of a problem. It wasn’t just the fact that she had dropped her towel in front of Natsu, who she had just realized she had a crush on. It was also that she didn’t know what to say to him now. Before, the conversations were full of laughter and teasing. But now? They could barely say hello before their eyes darted to their feet.
This morning was a harder wake up than normal. She had stayed up late writing the new chapter she outlined a few days ago, and with a yawn she pulled herself out of bed and put on her slippers, almost kicking Happy in the process. The cat loved to sleep either in Natsu’s bed or hers, and would sometimes open the door. It wasn’t her fault that the door didn’t have a trusty lock!
She tiptoed past Natsu’s room, hoping that he wouldn’t awaken while she made her breakfast. Usually Gajeel would make a nice breakfast for her, but this morning he was at the shop fixing something that they didn’t finish last night. As she made her eggs, she heard a noise and turned around.
“Morning,” Gray said, yawning and running a hand through his bedhead. His black hair stuck up in all different directions, quite unlike the spiked hair he usually achieved. Lucy’s eyes widened when she noticed that he wore no shirt, and his sweatpants hung low on his hips.
“Uh, good morning,” she said, thanking the gods that she hadn’t seen Natsu without a shirt yet. She probably would faint if she did. Were all the boys in this apartment some type of attractive? Gray was the conventionally attractive successful businessman type with a cool demeanor. Gajeel was grumpy but kind when she got to know him with the edgy kind of look. And Natsu, well…
He was one of a kind. With his rose locks he would probably be teased at first. He seemed like he wasn’t as smart as the other two, but when he was sat down at a computer he could hack into it within seconds. He was also quite toned from going to the gym, and Lucy knew that she would curse the day when he dropped his own towel.
Not that that would ever happen.
Lucy’s face flushed at the thought, and Gray looked at her suspiciously. “This happens all the time. You should be used to it by now,” he said, and Lucy shook her head of her wandering thoughts.
“Oh, I’m not even thinking about that! Ugh, nevermind. You want some eggs?” she asked, lifting up the spatula, ready to place the food on a plate.
“Maybe later. I’m going to take a shower and then write,” he told her, making his way to the bathroom. She ate her eggs and got ready for work quickly, dressing with the intent to look nice today. There were a few days of the week where she decided that she wouldn’t try as hard, but today was going to be one of those days where she tried her best. She even went into her bathroom and put on a little more makeup than normal, which took a bit more effort. How did one even apply eyeliner, anyway?
As she made her way to work, she drove past Evergreen and Lisanna’s shop. She wondered if Lisanna still had that shirt on hold for her, and she smiled as she drove past the small coffee shop next to it. She really needed to stop in there sometime and get her caffeine fix…
“Lucy! Good morning!” Juvia greeted from her spot on top of the ladder where she was dusting as Lucy walked into work.
“Good morning to you too, Juvia. Would you like me to hold the ladder for you?” Lucy said, a worried look crossing her face. She herself fell off a ladder once and had a nasty broken wrist to atone for it. She didn’t want the same fate to happen to her boss and friend.
“No. Juvia will be alright. But Juvia thanks Lucy for her offer!” Juvia said with a bright grin, and Lucy smiled back and started on her paperwork for the clearance. Soon people would be coming in, and even calm people like the ones who reached for crystals could get quite nasty when good enough clearances arose.
Three hours later, Lucy was ready to take her break. One customer had yelled at her for their lack of calming crystals, as ironic as that was. Lucy did her best to calm the woman down, but ultimately Juvia had to step in and tell her that the prices were their best and that she would never find anything better, even at bigger stores.
“Well then, fine. I won’t shop here again,” the customer said with a huff, bringing her husband and small child with her. Lucy’s heart ached for the child that had to watch their mother be so horrible to retail workers--either their heart would ache as well or they would follow in the same footsteps as their mother.
“Yo! Seems like a party in here,” a familiar voice said, and Lucy whirled around to find Natsu carrying Lucy’s writing notebook with a grin.
“Natsu! Thank God you’re here!” Lucy exclaimed, throwing her arms around his neck.
Natsu’s eyes widened at the contact. He and Lucy had never hugged before, and he was surprised that she would hug him so quickly after dropping her towel in front of him. Nevertheless, he enjoyed the contact as he smelled her scent. She smelled like her undertone of vanilla, but a fruity perfume was layered on top of that that he didn’t quite like. He liked the way Lucy smelled with just deodorant and a light perfume. Nothing more, nothing less.
Her body felt warm as it fit on his, and he wrapped his arms around her waist tentatively before pulling her closer. Juvia giggled in the background, and they only stopped hugging when she told them to shoo out of her store.
“It is time for Lucy’s lunch. Besides, she is bothering the customers with her and Natsu’s lovey-dovey behavior!” Juvia said with a soft smirk, and Lucy pouted.
“We are not lovey-dovey, Juvia. I’ll be taking my lunch now. See you in an hour,” Lucy said, and Natsu followed along beside her. A few moments of silence fell over them before Natsu piped up.
“You sure you’re okay, Luce? You seemed pretty upset at your boss,” Natsu asked, concern in his voice, and Lucy huffed.
“Oh, Juvia’s not the problem. This customer was really rude, and a few others weren’t as nice as I’d expect either,” Lucy said, balling her hands into fists.
“Well, do you want a snack and some coffee, then?” he asked, and Lucy blinked a few times at him.
Was he asking her out? Surely he wasn’t that bone-headed to ask her out on a date when she was this frustrated. After all, they’d only known each other for a few months!
But it wasn’t like she didn’t know him well. She knew where he worked and what his favorite food was. She knew his sleeping schedule and knew that he worked nights, which meant he probably had to be sleeping by now. He was making a sacrifice to even come to see her, much less buy her coffee and a snack. She should at least return the favor by going out with him.
“Sure, I don’t see why not. Thanks, Natsu,” she replied after a few moments, and Natsu grinned.
“Awesome! What about that coffee shop down the street?”
“Sounds perfect.”
“Well hello, Lucy!” Kinana greeted once the two entered the shop. “Oh, and Natsu! I’ve never seen you in here!”
“Well, actually, neither of us have been in to get coffee. I’ve always just drank tea and Natsu hasn’t ever been in,” Lucy said with a soft smile.
“I see. I hope you feel welcome nonetheless. Laki just made a new drink. Would you like to try it?” Kinana said, hoping that they would say yes.
“I’m willing to try anything once,” Natsu said, and Kinana smiled.
“That’s the spirit. It’s a mocha with both dark and white chocolate mixed with a little caramel and raspberry syrups. She also added mocha sauce for taste,” Kinana explained while making their drinks. Once she finished, she handed them their concoctions and had them pay.
“Wow, this is delicious! Please tell Laki that I love it and that I’ll come back for it!” Lucy said with an excited tone. She couldn’t get enough of the mixed chocolates, and with the raspberry sauce it was delicious.
Natsu enjoyed his drink as well, even leaving a tip for the girls. “Get yourself some coffee too,” he said, and Kinana thanked him as they walked out after ordering a scone for Lucy.
“Thank you, Natsu. I appreciate it. This has been a helluva day.” she said, sipping her drink.
Natsu just stared as she sipped her drink, watching her hair shimmer in the sun. Her pale skin glimmered as well, and he grinned as she talked away about her day. It was nice just being able to talk to Lucy again like a normal person instead of a person that had seen you butt naked.
With a laugh, she told him about a customer who didn’t know what a moon cycle was. “The guy was totally out of the loop! He thought it was something about periods,” she said with a scoff, and Natsu even let out a laugh at that. He didn’t have many female friends, but he knew that women’s periods had nothing to do with their cycles.
“Wanna sit down on that bench?” he said before realizing that it was the courtyard that he had gazed out at before. Was this a real date if he had bought her some food and a drink and was now sitting down with her alone?
“Sounds great,” she said, and even Lucy herself started to wonder if this was a date. She had wondered that earlier when he bought her coffee, but now she was really starting to think it was. “So how is work going for you?” she asked, and he shook his head with a sigh.
“Same as always. I get these old grandma’s computers that don’t even know how to take all the spam out and it annoys the hell outta me,” Natsu said, taking a long swig of his drink. Lucy laughed, and Natsu was enchanted by the noise of her laugh. It was melodic and loud but soft at the same time, and he wanted to hear it forever.
They continued chatting about work, and soon the hour was up for her lunch break. Lucy waved goodbye to Natsu as he walked out to his car, and she smiled to herself. He would be such a nice boyfriend to whoever he ended up with.
Lucy stopped her walking at the thought. Why would she even think that? It made no sense for her to think that he would be a good boyfriend. He was her friend after all! Sheesh, maybe she needed more caffeine than she thought she did.
She was surprised to see Gray on her way in. He was on his way to work, she supposed. “What are you doing here?”
“Both you and Flame Brain forgot your lunch. I didn’t want you to go hungry,” he said, handing it to her. She smiled and opened it, finding that her sandwich she packed last night was in the bag.
“Thank you, Gray. I appreciate it. Want to come inside?” Lucy asked, pointing inside. Juvia was still dusting, a feather duster in her hand. Gray’s face flushed when he saw her smile as she cleaned.
“I guess a few minutes wouldn’t hurt,” he said, and Lucy followed behind him.
“Gray-sama!” Juvia yelled when he came in, and she practically ran down the ladder and across the room to hug him, knocking him over. Lucy covered her smirking mouth with her hand as she watched Gray get back up and Juvia continue hugging him.
“It looks nice,” he said, and Juvia gasped.
“Gray-sama really thinks so? Juvia worked so hard on it! And so did Lucy!” Juvia said, winking at her employee.
“Uh, thanks. I’ll get back to paperwork now,” Lucy said, inching away from her weird boss and her crush. She loved them both individually, but together they were an interesting duo to say the least.
Gray left a few minutes later, and Lucy’s work day continued. Before she knew it, it was time to go home.
“Sleep well, Lucy!” Juvia said, and Lucy looked at the time. She had stayed later than usual, and it was approaching eight.
“You too, Juvia. See you tomorrow,” Lucy told her boss before leaving. She got in her car and started it, backing out and driving past the coffee shop she went with Natsu on the way home. She smiled, thanking the gods that the date went well.
After all, it was a date.
Wasn’t it?
Hope you enjoyed!
Chapter 10 will be posted on 2/15. I’m giving myself a day off because it’s Valentine’s day, and I want to spend that day with my husband <3

A/N:
Alright everyone! We’ve got our winners! So, after tallying votes from my asks, dms, and on FF (ao3 had no comments) we came to these results. For NaLu: the midnight video call (honestly truly this was a super close race) and for Jerza: Coffee Shop. Based on the winning options for the ships we won’t be meeting Wendy this chapter! However, we will meet her in ch 5 or 6 so no worries haha also the midnight video call option is just good okay
FF.net - AO3
Natsu Dragneel was, by all intents and purposes, an idiot. He wracked his brain for answers on why he would put his name as ‘Hot Stuff’ in her phone. Oh man, she was going to think he was a moron. Shit, he just might be.
“Troubles with the blonde?” Jellal gave him a knowing pat on the shoulder and Natsu briefly wondered if the man was doing alright. He’d JUST moved back to his hometown and all.
“The blonde’s name is Lucy and Natsu looooves her,” Juvia called from across the empty cafe. He was after closing but the trio still had business to take care of and that took precedence over his idiocy with a girl he definitely did NOT love. He loved his soulmate. Though, sometimes that worked for and against him. Today, it was against him because damn it all the girl was amazing. She was selfless and caring.
He could inconvenience her a million times and she’d forgive him each and every one. But Lucy. Lucy was real. He could touch her, hear her voice, watch her nose scrunch up when she took a sip of a drink much too bitter. Today, it worked against him.
“I don’t like ‘er, Juvia. She’s not my soulmate.” He threw the rag down on the countertop with an annoyed grunt.
Jellal, in his infinite wisdom, assumed Natsu was one of the ‘following the crowd’ types and made the first of many mistakes.
“So? Why should that matter?” the darker-haired blunette’s voice rang into the silence and Natsu, dear Natsu, exploded.
“Huh!? What do ya mean why!? ‘Cause I love her and I can’t stand liking someone who isn’t her!”
“Have you guys met before?” because surely after a week of working at the shop Jellal would have met her by now. But he’d only ever seen the blo-- ‘Lucy’ here to visit the pinkette.
“N-no, we haven’t.” the pinkette’s head hung low and he expected the same thing he always got: then go see her instead of raging.
“Are you dating?” this was a different line of questioning then he was used to. So, Natsu, for once, listened.
“No?” Jellal spoke calmly even in the face of Natsu’s disdain. Natsu, himself, was beginning to question Jellal’s motive at this point.
“Then do as you please. See who you end up liking the most. Although, you should probably meet your soulmate if--”
“I KNOW.” an aggravated yowl left the pinkette’s throat and that was enough for Jellal to know it was a subject to drop. And so he continued to sweep and they worked in awkward silence until the cafe was closed for the night. They even had the ‘closed for emergency’ sign outside so patrons knew they’d be closed for a few days.
The trio had business to attend to after all. Business that had nothing to do with his love life.
----------------------
The dinging of her phone was what woke her in the dead of night. The blonde fumbled and smacked at her phone in an attempt to decline the call but much to her chagrin she tapped the answer button instead.
“Hey, Lucy.” Natsu’s voice was soft and barely audible from her bedside table and it took her a moment to register who was speaking.
“Natsu?” her voice was groggy and at first the pinkette wasn’t sure what Lucy had even said. Meanwhile, the blonde herself was struggling to focus on the bright lit up screen where the vague shape of her barista was. Half-asleep and barely functioning, she waited for a response.
“Look at the screen.” Lucy had barely heard what he said. Which wasn’t surprising since she still hadn’t lifted the phone from her table.
“Don’t wanna.” a grumbled response that Natsu understood. Sort of.
“Luuuuce.” he groaned while the haze of the blonde’s waking mind began to clear.
“Fiiiiiiine,” she grumbled. The pinkette watched as her face came to view. Well, a dark outline of her face barely illuminated from the light of the phone.
“You realize it’s...” she glanced to the upper right, “12:37 AM. Right?”
“Yeah,” he said it like a statement but his voice was becoming strained, almost as if he was hurt.
“I just felt the need to talk to ya is all. Not sure why.” more strained vocals from the pinkette. He looked to be in a dimly lit location. She could hear cars passing by and even the sound of a microwave going off in the distance.
“What about? Are you okay?” she didn’t think he was but she was already expecting his lie.
“I’m fine. Nothin’ to worry about, Luce.” it seemed that the nickname would be sticking unless she rejected it but honestly it felt right. It felt like a personal connection to him. She liked that.
“Ya sure?” she grumbled, a mixture of tired and irritation at being woken if nothing was wrong.
“Where are you anyway?” now THAT was a question he’d hoped she wouldn’t ask.
“I’m on my balcony.” Technically speaking, he was on a balcony – it just wasn’t his.
“Uh huh. Sure. Are you sure you’re okay?” Her bed creaked as she shifted to an upright position to continue talking to him.
“I am. Uh--” the sound of a fight broke out in the background and Natsu cursed before the call abruptly ended. Lucy was left with a bright screen reading ‘Call Ended’ and several questions. Luckily, these could easily be answered with her visit to the shop tomorrow. Still, she worried about him. She considered calling him back to see if he was okay but quickly dismissed the thought.
Besides, she’d see him tomorrow anyway.
---------------------
Natsu laid in his bed, cut to hell, and internally thanked the fact that Lucy hadn’t called him back. That failure of a mission was just one of their many mistakes but he’d made the biggest blunder. He’d gotten hurt; bad. Wendy had spent the entire night attempting to keep the wound from scarring but in the end, she hadn’t been able to. He’d needed several stitches.
He’d also been ignoring the inked messages on his forearm filled with panic, worry and God knew what else. Of course, she’d seen it. It would scar, badly, which would cause it to stay on her as well. Forever, it would never leave. Now, Natsu himself wouldn’t care about a measly scar but he wasn’t a girl. Girls care about things like that.
Maybe once he was out of recovery and cleared for active duty again he could talk to Juvia about it. Still, that bitch Briar would pay the next time he saw her. Though, the pinkette couldn’t say it was a total bust. They’d finally gotten information that they could turn into the police which would finally end their job. Plus, the mob syndicate, Avatar would go down in ashes. He couldn’t have them anywhere near Lucy or his soulmate which meant they couldn’t be rifling around in this city.
“We got ‘em right, gramps?” he questioned the small, elder man who was sitting on the dresser across from his bed.
“We got ‘em. But. I hate that you disobeyed a direct order AND got yourself injured.” his voice was booming for an old man and Natsu had to admit: he was scared.
“You leave me with no choice.”
“Gramps, no. Anything but that.” Natsu’s voice was exasperated.
“You’re grounded. For an entire week, you won’t leave the apartment and you WON’T be working at the shop either.” Now, Natsu wasn’t worried about funds. Most of his bills were paid by Fairy Tail including his rent. However, being forced away from the shop bothered him. He wouldn’t see Lucy or her friends. And he even liked her friends. Except for Gray. Everyone but him.
“Graaaaamps,” he whined
------------------------
Lucy tapped her pen on the table in anger. She’d heard nothing from Natsu or her soulmate in nearly four days. Lucy was pissed, which wasn’t exactly a first for her, at her soulmate. It wasn’t about the scarring left on her abdomen. This was about her worry. She cared for him; missed him. But he’d gotten seriously injured and dropped off the face of the earth.
Lucy didn’t want to ask the question that was on her mind and it seemed like the redhead didn't either.
“Ah! May I get another winterberry tea? The color is quite refreshing.” Erza’s voice snapped her out of her stupor causing her to watch the exchange closely. She recognized the blunette male from the week prior when she and Natsu had given each other their numbers.
“You think so too? I love the color. It has to be my favorite. It’s a scarlet color, just like your hair.” the pair were smiling at each other with tinted red cheeks and the blonde nearly cooed at the two. The scene felt like sweet tea on her tongue; strong and full of diabetes. Meanwhile, her soulmate gets cut up and just disappears.
The blunette returned to the counter where Juvia, her second-favorite barista, began showing the male the ropes of making Erza’s favorite drink of the week. It’d surely change by next week but Lucy wasn’t one to judge on picky taste. She’d refused to drink a cappuccino made by anyone other than Natsu so she was getting her caffeine via the unlikely source of Earl Grey. It barely took the edge off. Still, somehow she was still steadfast on the pinkette making her drink.
She was also stubbornly waiting for his call. Pale fingers caressed her abdomen where the ragged mark of an ‘X’ now laid upon her skin.
First, her soulmate. Now, Natsu. Hives broke out across her skin as worry fell over her.
“Luce! It’s been a while, huh?”
And truly it hadn’t been.
A/N:
NEXT CHAPTER:
Gruvia. We get some Gruvia.
So next is choosing what scenes you want for each couple next:
NaLu: Balcony Scene or THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED
and
Gajevy: Lucy meets the bae or Kiss in the rain
Gruvia doesn’t get a choice because I have a dream sequence coming for them. Small reminder this is mainly nalu so i’m trying to keep it mainly about them.
I LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT CHAPTER WITH YOU ALL.

Meddlesome
AN: A drabble request from @chanting-to-u for some Gray, Loke, and Cana Brotp for a coffee shop AU. I added some Gruvia for good measure. This takes place in the same universe as Sugar, Spice and Ice.
Gray huffed and drummed his fingers against the cover of his sketchbook, as his eyes lingered on Cana’s back.
She'd been chatting with the blue haired barista for a solid five minutes. Giggles and hand gestures had been exchanged, but there was no sign of their drinks being started and Gray found himself growing impatient.
He shifted in his seat, flipped open the sketchbook to a blank page and glanced out the window, hoping to distract himself. He caught sight of Loke’s bright orange hair crossing the street, and raised his hand in greeting.
Loke caught sight of Gray as he hit the curb and waved back. He paused to fix his hair and straighten his suit, then sauntered towards the entrance.
A soft scrape and a thud came from the chair across from Gray as Cana dropped into it. She grinned at Gray, and had a look in her eyes that Gray knew meant she was up to something, and he was about to be dragged into it.
“I get that you wanted to flirt, but I don’t see why I couldn’t have ordered my own coffee,” Gray said, shooting her a look that he hoped would convey he was not interested in her schemes.
Cana waved him off. “I wasn’t flirting. Juv’s straight as a board.” She glanced back towards the barista and wrinkled her nose. “It’s a damn shame though, she’s cute.”
“Then I’m even more confused about why I couldn’t just order.” “It’s a surprised,” Cana replied, wicked little grin widening.
Gray scowl deepened.
Loke laughed, appearing behind Gray, and clapped a hand on Gray’s shoulder. “Uh oh, you got in the way of his morning cup of coffee?” He slid into the chair on Gray’s right.
Cana rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. “It’ll be worth it.”
Loke raised a manicured brow at her and Gray glanced back out the window.
“Yeesh, it’s like neither of you trust me,” Cana grumbled.
“With good reason,” Gray countered. Loke shrugged. “It’s not a lack of trust on my part, I just don’t want to deal with His Grumpiness before he’s been properly caffeinated. Got enough of that when we lived together.”
Cana cackled in response and Gray shot Loke a withering glare. “Remind me again why I hang out with either of you?”
“No idea,” Loke said.
“We don’t really give you much of a choice.” Cana smirked at Gray. “But you’d be bored as hell without us.”
Gray thought about arguing that, or pointing out that he could do with a bit of boring from time to time. Or at least some quiet. There was a time when he used to be able to enjoy mornings like this, walk into a cafe and spend the day sketching and watching the world go by. Then Cana and Loke found out and made it their mission to join him. He tried to protest, but the words, loner and depression started getting thrown around and rather than have to listen to another lecture about how he was handling his life he relented to their company.
If he was honest, he usually ended up appreciating the company, he just found it hard to remember why when he was being deprived of caffeine.
“Here’s your order.” The blue haired barista announced, and placed three large mugs on the table between them.
Gray’s breath caught as he took in the intricate designs of the foam. A snowflake for him, a fairy for Cana and a lion for Loke. He stared at the drinks then looked up at the girl, then back to the art before him. “You made these?”
She blushed and nodded. “Juvia hopes you like yours. Cana-san said Gray-sama was an artist.” Heat crept up Gray’s neck at the honourific. Leave it to Cana to bring that up again.
“Uh, yeah. Mostly sculpture, but I like to sketch too.” Gray held up the sketchbook.
Juvia nodded and smile shyly. Her fingers fidgeted with the edge of the tray she was carrying. “Juvia would love to see some of Gray’s sketches some time.” She worried her lip and glanced away, then her eyes popped open and latched back onto him. “That is if Gray-sama is okay with sharing. Juvia didn’t mean to ass-”
“Sure,” Gray said, cutting her off before she could get much further. He smiled back at her, in an attempt to ease her nerves, only for her to blush harder.
“You should offer to model for him some time,” Loke said, flashing her a charming smile and letting his eyes wander her figure before winking at her. “Pretty girl like you could inspire all sorts of things.”
Gray glared at Loke. Sure he was looking for models, but the way Loke said it made it sound like a whole other kind of invitation.
Cana rolled her eyes. “Ignore him, he’s a pervert,” she said with a dismissive wave, before grinning up at Juvia and grabbing her hand. “But you really should model for Gray. You’d probably have to meet him at his place though, since he doesn’t get out much, but you could make a couple latte’s afterwards and show him how you do your thing. Maybe get to know each other.”
Gray bristled. “Oi! What is this, some kind of setup?” He glared at his friends before sighing and offering Juvia and apologetic look. “Sorry, they think I’m a shut in with no life.”
“You are a shut in with no life,” Cana muttered. She released Juvia, crossed her arms over her chest and glared back at Gray. “It’s okay,” Juvia said. “Juvia doesn’t mind.” Her eyes eyes widened and she blushed. “That is, Juvia would be happy to model for you, not that she wants to be set up with you. Not that she doesn’t- um, that is-”
Gray couldn’t help but smile at how flustered she was getting. It was kinda cute. She was kinda cute.
Juvia hung her head, her cheeks a brilliant shade of pink. “Juvia is going to go back to work now.”
Gray nodded. “I’ll talk to you later about the modeling, without these two meddlers.”
Juvia looked shocked, then nodded before scurrying back behind the counter, where she was greeted by a pink haired coworker who slung and arm around her shoulder and proceeded to tease her.
Gray felt a bit bad for her, he could definitely relate.
“See, totally worth it,” Cana announced, looking all too proud of herself.
Loke nodded and grinned at Gray. “You should totally do something about that crush she’s got for you too.”
“Preferably before she realizes you’re a train wreck and an asshole.”
Gray rolled his eyes and glanced out the window instead of dignifying either of them with a response. Anything he said at this point would just be used against him. Still, he couldn’t help trying to catch glimpses of Juvia through the reflections on the window, and he didn’t miss the knowing glances Cana and Loke exchanged.
He knew they were right, they knew they were right, but the best thing about them was he never had to say it.

summary: Finding herself thrown out and drunk after a party wasn’t the way Lucy expected her night to go. After blacking out and waking up in a room with three men, she has a decision to make: will she stay or will she go? Loosely based on New Girl. Roommates!AU
One month had passed since Lucy got the job at Juvia’s shop. She had begun to clean the cobwebs in the corners and work on reorganizing the shelves this week, and Juvia was very thankful. The woman had started spending time with Gray more often, and even though he didn’t seem to enjoy it much, he was starting to get used to the woman following him around.
As she swept the floors, she realized she had been living with Gajeel, Gray, and Natsu for almost a month and a half. Time really slipped by when you weren’t being hurt on a regular basis. Lucy grinned as she swept, and Juvia took notice.
“What is Lucy grinning about?” Juvia said with a smile, setting out a glass of lemonade for her employee.
Lucy wiped the sweat off of her brow. The floors were disgusting. Who knew it would be this much work to just sweep simple wooden paneling?
“Oh, nothing. It just came to me that I’ve been living with the guys for a while,” Lucy said, sauntering over and sitting on one of the stools they had set out in front of the bar to make it more homey. They were thinking of hiring a bartender soon, and Lucy knew just the person. Mirajane Strauss, Cana’s girlfriend, went to bartending classes and was quite efficient. She was also sweet and great with customers, and Lucy was sure that Mira’s looks would turn in some people as well.
“Lucy has been living with Gray-sama for that long?” Juvia asked once Lucy told her how long the length of time had been, “Juvia would love to live with Gray-sama!”
Lucy laughed. “Well, maybe someday that will happen, Juvia.”
Juvia went off to dreamland while cashing out the next customer bringing up some crystals, who sweatdropped when she told them about her Gray-sama. Lucy just shook her head with a sigh and began mopping the floors, which was even worse than just sweeping them up.
Around an hour later, Natsu and Levy made their way into the shop, looking around at all the crystals. Natsu headed over to the star charts after saying hello to Lucy and Juvia, and Levy awed over the sight of the store.
“This looks great, Lu-chan! I can’t believe that you and Juvia cleaned up the store to look like this!” Levy said, staring around the room in shock.
“Thanks, Levy! Hopefully we’ll be able to hire a bartender soon so we can have drinks in here as people look. It will be like a bar and store all in one!” Lucy exclaimed, throwing her arms up in the air and twirling around the room with a laugh.
Natsu looked at her and noticed for the first time how beautiful her hair was as it glimmered in the sunlight, but kept his thoughts to himself. His heart quickened as she laughed, and it brought a smile to his own face. She was gorgeous.
“By the way, Lucy, a few girls and I were wondering if you’d like to sleep over at my house tonight. I’m sure the boys wouldn’t mind. Would you, Natsu?” Levy asked, turning to look at the man who was currently looking at the moonstones and sneaking glances at Lucy.
“Nah, not at all! Luce lives with us, but she’s your friend. Go ahead and have some fun!” Natsu said with a grin. “Oh, here’s your lunch. Iron Brain sent it and told you to ‘have the dishes and the water bill paid by tomorrow’.”
Lucy accepted the lunch with a smile. “Thanks, Natsu. I appreciate it!”
“Don’t mention it, Luce! Someone’s gotta watch out for ya, after all!”
Lucy grinned again and then turned her eyes toward Levy to discuss plans as she ate her soup.
“Here we are!” Levy swung open the door once Lucy grabbed her things at her apartment and ended her shift successfully.
“Hi, Lucy!” Lisanna said before practically jumping on her friend with a hug. Lisanna and Evergreen ran a shop down the street from the strip mall that Lucy had interviewed at before.
“Hi, Lisanna! Hey, is that shirt I like still on sale?”
“Yep, and I’ll put it on hold for you. I might just put some earrings with it too,” Lisanna said with a wink. The girl was a pure angel, and that wasn’t just because of her white hair. The woman had a heart of gold, but she became a real animal while defending her friends. The time that Lisanna attacked a woman who was calling Cana an alcoholic asshole and Mira an airheaded dyke was forever burned into Lucy’s mind.
“Thanks, Lis. You’re the best,” Lucy said, smiling genuinely at her friend. Then she saw Evergreen filing her nails off in the corner sitting by herself.
“Ever! You came!”
“Well of course I did! Elfman kept telling me to get out of the house and that it was ‘good for the baby’. And, of course, I wanted to help you with your ratty hair,” Evergreen mused, pulling Lucy in for a hug. Evergreen was kind of like the vodka aunt of the “family” of girls they were in--except for the vodka, she drank milkshakes like crazy. The woman was also a licensed cosmetologist and did hair, makeup, and nails on the side. If anyone needed to go on a date, it was to Evergreen’s they went.
“It’s always nice to see you. How’s Oliver?” Lucy asked, her eyes flicking to Evergreen’s belly. She was about seven months pregnant, but she looked as if she was about to pop. Oliver was Elfman’s baby, alright…
“Kicking like always. Little brat,” Evergreen said with a bite to her voice, but unconditional love was at the base of her tone. Lucy knew that the woman quite loved her little boy, but she was sure that his kicks could be powerful.
The rest of the group waved and shouted their hellos. Cana was sitting watching a show with Mira in the corner snuggled up on the couch, and the rest of the girls were playing a board game. Kinana was the quiet coffee shop owner who had a love for scones, and her best friend Laki was one of the baristas who enjoyed creating new drinks. Her favorite was a mocha with caramel syrup and peppermint curls on top. Yukino and Minerva ran a jewelry shop across town that had sparkling gems delivered on a daily basis.
The party quickly begun, with alcohol and chocolate flowing heavily. Cana was now snuggling up with Mira fiercer than before, and Juvia was texting Gray like crazy. The rest of the girls were either passed out or watching a movie with more fruity alcoholic drinks.
“C’mon, admit it. You like Natsu,” Levy said, hugging Lucy close to her. Lucy flushed and told Levy that it was false.
“He’s cute, but not as cute as Gajeel,” Levy said, downing her drink and giggling once she finished.
“Ohhh, so you like Gajeel then?”
“N-no!”
“Why don’t you ask him out then if you’re so hesitant?” Lucy asked, and Kinana popped up from her spot.
“Is that that guy I always see you around with? You better snatch him up quick, Levy. Otherwise other girls won’t hesitate to do so!” Kinana said before slumping over with giggles, drink in hand.
“Oh yeah? Well I think Lucy should ask Natsu out!” Mira added with a grin, and Cana whooped in agreement.
“That hot piece of ass isn’t going to last for long, blondie!” Cana said, taking a drink from her whiskey. Mira kissed her girlfriend on the cheek softly before turning on another movie and laughing when the credits came.
“I barely even know him!” Lucy shouted, and that woke everyone up. All eyes in the room were locked on her, and Lucy felt painfully aware of what she felt at that moment.
Oh no. She had a crush on Natsu.
When the hell did this happen? Was it when he rescued her for the second time, or maybe the first? Was it when he smiled at her or looked at her like she was the only person in the room? Or was it when he defended her against that woman who called her a drowned rat?
She couldn’t have a crush on someone. She just couldn’t. Her relationship with Dan had ended so badly that she couldn’t risk it. And hell, what if he liked her back? Lucy couldn’t get into a relationship now! Not after what Dan did to her…
Her anxiety seeped in at the edges of her body, and icicles formed at her ribcage and pulled her into an attack harsher than she’d had before. She reached for the carpet to stim, but it was too late. Her anxiety had a hold on her once more.
Lucy gasped before feeling pain in her stomach. Her anxiety didn’t mix well with alcohol, and she was either about to pass out or throw up. And she guessed that it was both.
“Lucy?” Levy’s voice was the last thing she heard before she puked and then passed out.
Things couldn’t get any worse than this.
Just so you all know, I have commissions open. Please message me here and ask for my paypal/youcaring if you are willing to help me with that. I am going on a trip to help my friend get out of her not-so-good home, and we need all the help we can get. Thanks!

“Where exactly did Gajeel say this strip mall was by the river?” Levy said, pulling into the small coffee shop she frequented each morning before work. A week had passed since Lucy had been in the hospital, and thankfully she had another day off. And that day was to be spent with Lucy finding her a job.
“Just like he said: by the river,” Lucy joked, elbowing her best friend in the ribs. Levy peeked up at Lucy under her bangs and shook her head.
“Don’t play smart with me, missy, otherwise you won’t get your coffee,” Levy warned, shaking a finger in her friend’s face. Lucy moaned and opened the door to the shop, not wanting to risk saying anything that would deter Levy from buying her the caffeine she craved.
Once they headed back into the car with mochas in hand, they began their trip into the small mall to find applications and complete them. Once there, Lucy and Levy made a plan.
“Okay, so I’ll take this side and you’ll take that side,” Levy instructed, pointing her pencil from behind her ear at each side of the mall.
“Great. See you later, Levy!” Lucy waved and began her walk, first into a coffee shop and then into a crafts store.
A few hours later, Lucy thanked them for their time and headed back. None of the stores she checked were hiring, and despite the sinking in her chest and her anxiety arising, she knew she couldn’t give up. Helping with the bills and getting medical insurance for the next time she was in the hospital was a big deal, and being a mooch wasn’t her favorite thing to be. Lucy knew she had to pay back the boys for what mess she had made somehow…
She spotted Levy exiting a sports store quickly, and Lucy made haste over to where her friend was standing.
“What happened?” Lucy asked, and Levy managed a nervous grin.
“The guy wouldn’t leave me alone. He said that I’d be perfect for modeling a tennis line of his with my figure. But when he showed me the outfits, it wasn’t much more than a sports bra and gym shorts!” the woman huffed, folding her arms across her chest.
Lucy shook her head with a sigh, thankful that Levy had gotten out of there without any problem. She herself had dealt with the same thing, and she was annoyed that poor Levy also had to dodge stupid men like that.
“Alright, I think we’ve had enough for one day,” Lucy said, grabbing Levy’s wrist and dragging her back to the car.
“Wait, Lu! There’s one more shop we should check out,” Levy said, pointing to a large wooden building in an area separate from the mall. Lucy’s gaze flicked over it for a moment, and then she turned her eyes on Levy.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me, Lev. That building looks like it’s a hundred years old, maybe more,” Lucy said, her mouth turned into a fine line now. She didn’t like the design of what looked like an old house. The architecture appeared as if it was about to fall apart at any moment, and even seemed to lean to the side a little. Lucy stared at the structure with a wince before deciding to give it a shot.
“Fine,” she said, and Levy grinned. Thankfully Levy was back in her normal mood. Levy had her own anxiety to deal with, although Lucy knew that it wasn’t as bad as her own. Levy’s was more triggered by social situations, which was why she tended to act out when she met new people.
“Okay, then, let’s go!” Levy said, pulling a still hesitant Lucy over to the book shop. A few moments later, they stood at the steps up to the building. They were not steep, but wide and evenly spaced like a library’s. Maybe this was a bookshop of some sort?
“Ready?” Levy said, sliding her hand down to squeeze Lucy’s hand, giving her the small amount of stimulation she needed to seize the moment. Lucy took a breath and walked up the steps with her friend’s hand in hers.
Lucy opened the door and was surprised by the amount of cobwebs in the corners of the store. Thankfully there were no spiders to be found, but the dusty shop wasn’t making too good of a first impression so far.
“Hello?” Levy called, and a woman popped out from behind the long counter to the side.
“Welcome to Juvia’s bookshop,” the woman said, and Lucy realized she talked in the third person right away. “Is there anything Juvia can help you find?”
“No, thank you!” Levy said brightly before nudging her friend. “Go on.”
Lucy’s disgust with the room filled her, and the dust-ridden room’s scent filled her senses. It wasn’t a bad scent, but it was old. Books lined a few deep brown shelves, and there were quite a few hued crystals lining the walls around the room. Windows gave little light, but where they did the dust was clearly seen, and Lucy wrinkled her nose.
“Um,” Lucy said, composing herself and maintaining a neutral expression, “I was wondering if you had a job open here.”
Juvia was quiet for a moment, and then she blinked her eyes a few times. Suddenly, she came around the corner and launched herself at Lucy. Levy stood off to the side, amused by Juvia’s reaction.
“Oh, Juvia was hoping someone would come in! Cana’s cards did tell that a woman would come in looking for a job!” Juvia said, clasping her arms around Lucy’s neck and hugging her tight.
“T-that’s great,” Lucy replied, looking Levy in the eyes to convey her want for help. Levy merely shook her head and giggled, leaving to go peer at the beautiful crystals.
Once Juvia detached from Lucy’s body, Juvia held out her hand and asked for Lucy’s name in her strange third-person fashion.
“Lucy. Nice to meet you,” Lucy said, grasping Juvia’s hand. A shock of cold ran through Lucy’s body, and she tensed her body. The feeling of cold jolted Lucy’s senses, and once it was deemed acceptable she pulled away. Juvia’s hand was cold!
“Juvia is so glad that Lucy came to work. Cana is a great person and works hard, but,” Juvia said, pausing for a moment to think through, “Cana likes her spirits and will come to work with a hangover. And customers have left because of Cana’s drinking.”
“I promise not to do that,” Lucy said with a smile, feeling herself warm up to the woman now. Maybe there was a way to pull in customers that would work a little better than just being kind? Lucy scanned the room, looking at the crystals that lined the walls on the shelves.
“Juvia,” Lucy asked, “Would you like it if I cleaned up in here a little? I think more customers would come in if this place was tidy.”
“Juvia would love that, Lucy. Thank you! And if Lucy would like to come in tomorrow to fill out paperwork, then Juvia would love that, ” Juvia said, shaking her hand over again. Lucy smiled. Juvia wasn’t that bad, she was just received somewhat strange when first meeting people.
“Before we get to that, I need to tell you something,” Lucy said, looking down at her feet. How was she supposed to tell her future boss about her anxiety?
“I have anxiety. It’s something that I’ve had since a little girl, and it’s very hard to work with. If you don’t want to hire me after this, I understand,” Lucy’s eyes still stared at her feet and moved up slowly to meet Juvia’s eyes.
Juvia blinked again for a moment, her face never wavering. Then she smiled at Lucy. “That’s alright. Juvia has depression herself. She puts those crystals up so then she can find healing in them. The crystals she sells are to help other people like Juvia find healing and comfort.”
Lucy relaxed, her shoulders no longer tense. She knew everything was going to be alright now. Even though Juvia was a little strange, she understood the pain of mental illness that Lucy went through. And if Lucy could find a boss that was as understanding as Juvia, then she better take the job right away.
“I’ll be in tomorrow morning to complete paperwork,” Lucy said, sticking out her hand once more to touch Juvia’s. Juvia grasped Lucy’s hand with a smile, and the cold shock still went through Lucy’s hand, but she paid no mind. She had a job.
“Juvia looks forward to seeing Lucy tomorrow!” Juvia said, and at that moment Levy headed back up to see Lucy and Juvia shaking hands. It was about time: they needed another girl in their group to round out the craziness of the boys.
“Ready to head out? I think I’m ready for some food,” Levy said, rubbing her stomach.
“Yeah. See you tomorrow, Juvia!” Lucy said with a wave, and Juvia waved back with a soft smile. As they exited, Levy elbowed Lucy in the ribs.
“Are you glad we went in there now?”
“Yeah,” Lucy said, looking up into the bright blue sky with a smile. “I am.”
Levy and Lucy headed back to the apartment quickly, and Lucy burst in the door with a huge grin on her face. “I got a job!”
Natsu’s head turned toward her first, and he gathered her in a hug when he ran over. “That’s great, Luce!”
His strong arms held her tightly, and Lucy flushed a little when she pulled away, holding his forearms. Natsu’s own face was dusted with a blush, and he looked her in the eyes. In them was more strength and hope than he had ever seen, and Natsu was a little surprised himself of how she had changed since he met her. Green gazed on brown for a few moments before Natsu cleared his throat and detached from her hold.
In an attempt to diffuse the awkwardness, Natsu walked away to go tell Gray the news. The quiet man merely saluted and offered a soft grin in approval, which was enough for Lucy.
Gajeel patted Lucy on the head, which was the extent of his physical affection. Lucy glared up at him, knowing that he was going to say something snarky.
“You’re still gonna have time to do the dishes, right?”
“Of course. I wouldn’t just give up doing the dishes just for a stupid job!” Lucy eyed Gajeel with a smirk, and Gajeel chuckled.
“I brought over some banana bread,” Levy said as she came in, hanging up her jacket.
“Great, shrimp. That loaf’s almost as tiny as you,” Gajeel teased, and Levy smacked him in the arm.
“Hey! This is a normal sized loaf of banana bread, I’ll have you know!”
“At least good things come in small packages,” Gajeel said, grabbing the wrapped treat from Levy’s hands and going to butter up a slice in the kitchen without another word.
“I think that means that he likes you,” Lucy whispered to Levy after seeing her friend’s flush. Levy shushed her friend but said nothing, staring back at Gajeel in surprise.
“What’s for dinner tonight, blondie?” Gajeel said, turning back as soon as the bread was buttered. He took a chomp out of it, and she was surprised at how big of a bite he could take.
“Don’t you usually make the meals, Gajeel?” Lucy teased, and Gajeel chuckled.
“That’s true,” he said, finishing the bread quickly, “but I wanna see what kind of cooking you can do on your own. So if I’m ever gone, these idiots won’t starve to death and I won’t be liable for murder.”
“True,” Lucy told him, opening up the refrigerator and rifling through its contents. “What about a steak salad? I can make my own salad dressing with just a few ingredients, and I’m sure you have them.”
“You’re speakin’ my language, blondie. Chop, chop,” he said like Gordon Ramsay, and Lucy laughed out loud for the first time that day. It felt good, and even the little giggles that she had shared with the rest of the group the entire day made her feel better than she had since before the hospital visit.
Lucy made dinner quickly, seasoning and searing the steak with ease. Gajeel and Levy watched on in amazement, and soon the salad was tossed and the dressing was made as well. The ingredients were combined to make a nice and reasonably healthy meal, and everyone tucked in at the dinner table after congratulating Lucy on her new job.
‘This is great, Luce,” Natsu said through bites of steak, “and I don’t usually like salad.”
“Good salad, Lucy,” Gray said, raising his plate toward her, and Lucy was surprised with Gray’s kind words.
Gajeel ripped off a piece of steak before saying, “Damn, blondie. You’ve got both the guys in culinary school and the military beat!” Levy just nodded with a smile at Lucy, and she was surprised at how much the small woman had eaten. She had given her the same amount that she gave the boys!
Lucy’s face turned red as she thanked them, and the rest of dinner was spent in silence. Levy went home after that, telling everyone to have a good week and that she would be back next week with more treats. Lucy could have sworn that Gajeel had the smallest frown on his face when she left, but he covered it up by dabbing at his face with a napkin and putting on a smile, which was even more out of character for the man.
“Shoot,” Lucy said, remembering that Juvia had told her to bring a reference along with her when she came for the paperwork. Since Lucy hadn’t much experience in working, Juvia specified for her to bring someone she knew as a reference. But since most of her friends were back in her hometown, she had no one to bring.
Lucy’s anxiety seeped in at the corners of her vision, and she sat down on the couch to feel it’s velvety texture in order to stim. Tapping her fingernails softly on the sofa, Gray saw that she was breathing heavily.
“What’s wrong, Lucy?” he asked, his hand on her shoulder. It was a little too much for her senses, so she pressed her back into the back of the couch to slump over. Natsu was at her side within seconds when Gray motioned for him to come over, and he began to scratch circles into her back to help with the anxiety that was making her head cloudy.
“Well,” Lucy began, her voice weak, “I need to bring a reference with me tomorrow for my new job. Most of my friends are back in my hometown, and I don’t know anyone other than Levy and you three.”
“If it’s that big of a deal, I’ll go with you. I have the day off anyway,” Gray shrugged, and Lucy smiled at him once she felt up to it.
“Thank you. That means a lot to me,” Lucy said, knowing that Gajeel and Natsu both had to work. Gajeel was working on a particularly rough car the other day, and she knew that he would need his rest. Natsu was trying to crack a code on a computer that had been encrypted, but to no avail. Both of the men needed their rest for the next morning; they both had to be up at 5:30 in order to get to work on time.
“Alright, then let’s go tomorrow.”
Gray had gotten into something that he hadn’t expected: this woman was absolutely obsessed with him. Sure, he had dressed quite nicely that day since he hadn’t expected Lucy’s new work would be a tiny little bookshop, but he didn’t think there would be any crazy fangirl running it.
“Would Gray-sama like to sit with Juvia as she goes over Lucy’s schedule?” Juvia asked, holding onto Gray’s arm, which was kind of weird considering he hadn’t met her more than five minutes ago.
“No thanks. I’ll go over here and look at these books,” Gray said, detaching his arm from hers.
Juvia made an annoyed noise, but still sat down next to Lucy and went over her schedule.
“So Juvia and Lucy have decided on thirty-five hours a week. Lucy will get a lunch break every shift that she works six or more hours. Is that okay with Lucy?” Juvia asked, and Lucy nodded and looked over the rest of the paperwork. She was to wear an apron over her clothing, but other than that she was able to wear whatever clothes she wanted as long as they were not ripped or immodest.
Lucy decided that she’d have to go with Levy to get some new clothes. Skirts and three-length shirts were great, but when it turned winter it was going to be a lot harder to stay warm in this cold little building. She would have to check out the little shop by their house on the way home.
“Lucy will earn ten dollars an hour to start,” Juvia said, tapping the papers with a pen where she was to sign. Lucy read over the paperwork one more time and then signed them with a flourish, and Juvia shook Lucy’s hand and gave her a hug.
“Juvia is so glad to have Lucy with her! She was so lost with Cana being gone for vacation,” Juvia told her, and Lucy’s heart dropped for the girl. She didn’t know much about her, but it sounded like she had a pretty rough backstory from what she did concur.
“These crystals are cool,” Gray said from the corner, jerking a thumb in the direction of the objects.
“Gray-sama thinks so? Then he can take one home to use in his room!” Juvia said to him, once again grabbing his arm. “This one helps with romantic feelings. Juvia wants Gray to give in to his romantic feelings for her!”
“No thank you. I’m getting in the habit of saying that I don’t like things,” Gray said, taking her arm off his. Juvia looked heartbroken, and he walked away without another word. Lucy looked from the sidelines with a sigh. She didn’t know who would be able to melt Gray’s seemingly impenetrable heart, but someone had to have a shot at it sometime.
As soon as Juvia wrapped up with the paperwork, Lucy and Gray headed home. Lucy looked out the window and smiled, thankful that she had a new job and that she even had a new friend and boss. A sense of hope filled her, and her anxiety about her job lifted. Lucy knew everything was going to be alright.
Things were looking up.
