Thinking about revisiting a world I used to have when I was in elementary school

So like when I was in elementary. I used to have this worldbuilding project me, my friends and some classmates did for fun. There’s this A guy who basically manage the world we were building and decided what can and cannot be added(Still keep contact with him). So basically most of us will get to manage and worldbuild our own sentient species;goverment, culture, biology, technology, military etc. and then we put them in the world and have them interact with the others. I dont really remembered much aside from the name “Carbill” but it was pretty detailed.

Before I join I was building another world with another B guy(who I’m also in contact with) it basically have a dragon semi sentient tribes and other made up creatures. A guy wants us to join too, and we did.

B guy didn’t made any sentient species of his own, but I did. It’s called “Hed-mao” (Literally means ‘hallucinating mushroom’ in Thais). I don’t quite remembered the other species except for the “listen” (made by the A guy himself). These guy would be native to the main planet and they do have quite a lot of conflict with eachother. There are like, 6 sentient species in that one planet alone and they’re in a pretty big war.

Now back to me and the B guy’s world. It’s called “Maso” me and him basically co-own it. It was largely inspired by httyd, warrior cats and things in that nature. At first there’s only the dragon that are the intelligent specie, but I eventually add an alien hyena and an alien lion because I got into lion king/lion guard. And since A guy’s species is space faring, he decided to have his specie observe and studied the planet. Being stupid kids that we were at the time, A guy decided to have Maso destroyed by make it strayed from orbit and become a rogue planet, thus killing the planet fauna. I was pretty upset at first but since worldbuilding an entire culture and ecosystem is fun, why not make another one?

So here it is, my second planet. Although this time it was just me who own it. The second planet were heavily inspired by the planet Hoth from star wars(I start to get into Star Wars around that time) and name it “Frostia”(yes, very creative). Unlike the first one though, it does not contain any sentient beings.

We would use hands to symbolize as our own species and roleplayed a lot using them. And when the thing we want to roleplay become too complicated to roleplay by hands and fingers we just resort to drawing. Now that I think about it, almost all of us that are in the worldbuilding circle are drawers. One guy really like to draw machinery parts, he’s a big Gundam fan and there’s like 3-4 persons that enjoy drawing dinosaurs and dragons (this include me)

I did revisit Hed-mao and Frostia once in a while during middle school. Gave Frostia a sentient species and wasn’t quite satisfied with it. I’m thinking about revisiting it again. (Old arts from 2021v)

Reading the novelization of A New Hope already changed how I saw Luke as a character but Splinter of the Mind’s Eye is going one step further and making me question the very fundamentals thought to be obvious about Luke.

Like, Luke is, for lack of a better term, a nerd. He studied languages and cultures -

Luke wants to know about people. He wants to know about cultures and creatures and he wants to be able to communicate and…

He really just. Is a great Jedi. He jumps between Leia and danger and he befriends the Yuzzem the prison guards thought would kill him and he wants to explore the creepy abandoned ruins of a civilization long past and he uses Anakin’s lightsaber underwater to cut the stem of a lilypad they use as a boat and he comments that the rock formations are almost too beautiful to cut down and he knows how to work Imperial explosives and

His name is Dolly (nickname)! He’s an ex-pop of some variety (no idea if i wanna make him a prime asset or not because i feel like id breach mary sue territory ((im the only person who cares abt that)) and hgh)…he’s mostly mute due to his mask muffling his voice!! the mask has a tube that goes into his mouth and down his throat to basically force him to breathe <\3

He’s VERY clingy and affectionate to the other ex-pops, specifically Coyle, Franco, & Gooseberry. They don’t necessarily return his affections but they can’t do anything but take it, not like they can kill him, though it’s nice sometimes when he’s not trailing behind them like a lost dog

He’s particularly keen on Coyle, not in a romantic sense (or sexual, or anything really) but he sees him as an authority figure only because he was a cop. Coyle enjoys that part but not when he interrupts his “investigations” to grab his arm or something. He tends to hug him from behind which will scare the shit out Coyle if he’s not paying attention, and he will thrash until Dolly either lets go or he gives up lmao 😭

With Franco, they both don’t really know what to make of each other but Dolly thinks he’s adorable (in a murder-y sense HAHA), usually doting on him or trying to coddle him randomly. Which Franco gets a kick out of unless he’s actually trying to do something then he looses his rag a bit at him (and Gooseberry makes him say sorry) ((he won’t))

Gooseberry is Dolly’s FAVORITE, mostly because out of all the prime assets she’s the most receptive towards his physical affection, always accepting his hugs and doesn’t mind that he follows her around. She is after all a “mother”, so to her he’s just a clingy child. However if he breaks anything in the orphanage she will put him on time out 😓

He’s confused by the reagents mostly, he’s not the brightest and has no idea why they run away from him, however he does tend to hurl explosives at people for shits and gigs so maybe that’s why (he won’t put two and two together)

Pitcher, Pusher & the grunts find him more than a little irritating, mostly because he tends to get in the way of them doing their jobs (murdering reagents)

He’s easily stunned and a good brick to the face will knock him flat for a bit, but he all thinks this is a fun little game </3

Dolly’s whole get up is inspired by the one gimp outfit from the unholy night pack, haven’t figured out a lore reason why he’d wear it other than he’s gay i guess, but he does like to cross dress (much to the disgruntlement of Coyle, who has probably hurled a few slurs at him from time to time, Gooseberry just loves to help him dress up and Franco doesn’t care enough about what he’s doing when he’s not babying him, just assumes Dolly’s a pervert)

Unpopular opinion mayhaps, but I always thought that the actual reason Tank crashed Johnny's birthday party wasn't just so he could antagonize him, but that it had more to do with Ripp than with Johnny.

Because Ripp has friends and Tank doesn't, because Ripp can sneak out, and hang out with these friends and go to parties and Tank can't. Because in his mind he has a strict code of what he's allowed to do and what he's not allowed, and shouldn't absolutely do, as it is implied in the gba game

This is a direct result of Buzz's militaristic education, of course, which consequently prompted Tank's desire to please his father and his fear to disappoint him.

However, even though he wants to please his father, I believe that he actually doesn't enjoy nor does he look forward to all the training that Buzz's makes him go through. No, I rather think he secretly hates it (though he will never admit it out loud, at least a young Tank, that's it) and that he's already aware of the fact that that he didn't had a normal childhood and isn't having a normal adolescence either.

So he resents Ripp and he's jealous of him because he's able to break the rules, not only that; he's determined to break them. And Tank isn't; he probably feels like he's in too deep already.

So yeah, my headcanon is that he crashed the party to fetch Ripp and take him home with him. Because if he doesn't get to have fun his brother shouldn't either. He also wants to fight Johnny, of course, but like I said I don't think fighting him was his main motivation here

(Screenshots of dialogue from this video since I don't own the equipment to play Alyx myself) Something I find so so interesting about Half Life Alyx's combine grunts is that they're not just humanized for the sake of adding more humor to enemy encounters. They're basically prototypes, and if you pause to pay attention to their idle chatter you may catch them updating their mental reprogramming in real time. Lower units are actively pressured by their superiors into basically wiping unneeded memories out of themselves as if it's garbage data. I'm wondering if Combine Soldiers feel any sort of fear when they go through this? Do they hold on to the remnants of humanity the Universal Union hadn't stripped away yet? Do they feel the urge to defect in these moments? How many of them acted on that urge? Unlike Half Life 2's Combine Units, a lot of these are still people, they have yet to be turned into mindless war machines - but they're getting there. A lot of them were probably fed an entirely different idea of what it'd be like to serve under the Union, and now the truth is staring them right in the face and demanding them to give up their memories. Home? Useless. Loved ones? Unneeded. We need to make room in that cranium of yours for more battle tactics, and these have got to go! [De-masked Combine Grunt up ahead, quite gory.] ... ... ... ...

I'm assuming a lot of these people were ex-metrocops, and this is the Universal Union's exact idea of "moving up the ladder". Imagine being told you're getting a promotion, and next thing you know you get fuckin' sedated on the spot, and once you wake you've had your skin grafted to a suit and your head entombed in armor plating, the eyes scooped out to make room for fancy new optics. They've already mutilated your body but now they're cordially asking for your consent to mutilate your mind aswell. Cognitive dissonance will not be tolerated.
