Gwen and Zoey are coming along well with their ground work training. Zoey was always the type of horse that will strike/attack/rear up at you when lunging. She’s come a long way in a short time! Had a productive groundwork/ trailer training session before being in for work at 3 today. - Worked on lunging, backing, disengaging the back end, changing directions, and halting on voice command. - Also did an exercise where I’m standing on a block that’s about the same height as a mounting block and having her move around it and stop beside it next to me, both directions. Then I hopped on her at the end. Haha - For our trailer loading practice I brought out some grain in her food bowl to help with encouraging her into the trailer. But I also did a @carsonjameshorses exercise where I work her near the trailer, and then let her rest in front of the trailer, teaching her that the trailer is actually the place where she can rest. And it worked!! Only took about 5 minutes to get her on. And when she saw grain waiting for her she didn’t hesitate at all. Lol. I went through the process a couple times, getting her more comfortable with getting in and off the trailer. Then at the end I let her finish her grain in the trailer. Can’t wait to go through the exercise again!
