4 July, BOS @ MIA, 6-5, win, 12th inning
We hadn't had a rollercoaster in some fucking time but what better way to celebrate what must've been the most reflective and subdued Independence Day (considering the rampant rat-fucking shit-fuckery of the Supreme Court at the moment) in living memory than having a proper hold-your-hands-in-the-air-and-shriek-on-the-big-dips rollercoaster of a day game in Miami. Holy shit. Nick Pivetta rocks up and nearly throws a no-no but then the Sox blow the lead and the collective hearts of Red Sox Nation drop like that crazy bit on Space Mountain. Of course, the rollercoaster only really started in the 8th, when the Marlins evened it all up. Before then it was edge-of-the-seat potential no-no watch. What a ride. Anyway, we got the sweep and plenty of bright sides to boot.
Nick Pivetta joins Kutter Crawford (still his real name) and Brayan Bello in the bounce back from a shitty start with a dominating performance club. Dude gave up one hit and two walks over seven innings and left the Sox 2-0 up. Carried a no-no into the seventh. Shook off his previous rough outing like a pro should do. It was pretty great. Shame he didn't get the W because he deserved it. He struck out ten and managed to induce 15 swings and misses.
Dave Hamilton and Tyler O'Neill rocked not one but TWO double steals. The first in the first inning put the Sox ahead 1-0 to kick things off after Raffy knocked Hamilton in with a RBI groundout. Then they did it again in the sixth and Raffy grounded Hamilton in AGAIN with a groundout.
Tyler O'Neill also went 3-for-5 with a run scored and 2 RBIs, one of which was the game-winning RBI.
Jarren Duran was only 1-for-6 but he fired a bullet in the ninth from centre field to throw out Sánchez trying to take home on a single. That would've been a walkoff Marlins win, but not on Jarren's watch. Way to go. That was an awesome outfield assist.
Raffy managed to get 2 RBIs in spite of an uncharacteristic 0fer. He also walked three times.
We won! We had the lead, gave it up, got it back, gave it up, then got it back again and kept it. All from the 8th to the 12th inning. Baseball is fucking great.
We swept the Marlins!
We're pretty good in Florida this season!
Let's go kick the shit out of the Yankees!

End of the Game:
Final Score: Sunrise Stallions 13, Shadow Organization 11
The Shadow Organization tried to catch up but they couldn't quite manage it. That leaves Itay's Sunrise Stallions as the victors. let's hand out our awards for the night!
MVPs
For the Sunrise Stallions:
Prussia (#02 - "Teutonic Titan")
Performance: Prussia was the standout player for the Sunrise Stallions, hitting three home runs, including a crucial three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning that put the Stallions back on top. His power at the plate was unmatched, and he played a pivotal role in the Stallions' victory. He came in tonight with a mission to redeeme himself from his last game he played and he did it well.
For the Shadow Organization:
Romano (#16 - "Mouth")
Performance: Romano was the heart of the Shadow Organization's offense, hitting three home runs of his own. His leadership and ability to deliver in clutch situations kept the Shadow Organization in the game, making him the clear MVP for his team.
Room For Improvement:
For the Sunrise Stallions:
Austria (#48) Performance: Austria struggled at the plate, going hitless and grounding into a double play. While solid defensively, his lack of offensive contribution was notable in a high-scoring game. Austria is known to be a hit or miss player. He must not have been feeling it tonight.
Canada (#24) Performance: Canada reached base on an error and didn’t make much of an impact at the plate. He had a chance to extend rallies but couldn’t capitalize, so improving his batting consistency will be key. Canada Is usually a great hitter, It just must not have been his night,
For the Shadow Organization: Denmark (#69) Performance: Denmark had a tough game, grounding out multiple times and failing to reach base. His struggles at the plate were apparent, and he’ll need to work on making better contact in future games. Though Denmark does not really get drafted for his hitting abilities. He's known for his fielding. But still he should probably work on that. Russia (#27) Performance: Russia was unable to get much going at the plate, going hitless and making outs in crucial situations. His offensive performance was below par, and he’ll need to focus on improving his at-bats. Look I'll just say it, he may have the power but Russia is just not a good baseball player. He should be a stand out player with his raw power but he just can't seem to really get a good swing at the ball ever.

Seven Straight
Bears Defeat #21 Virginia Tech In Extras
Also Beat Illinois State, Continue Domination at Littlewood Classic
PHOENIX – The California softball team made it seven straight victories with a thrilling 6-5 extra innings win over No. 21 Virginia Tech and a 5-2 beat down of Illinois State on Saturday at the Littlewood Classic.
The Golden Bears (9-1) used a 4-hit day from Elon Butler and a 3-run homer from Kyndal Todd to record their best start to the season since winning the first 12 games in 2018.
Game 1: Cal 6, No. 21 Virginia Tech 5 (8) The Bears rallied with two down in the first to take the early lead. Tatum Anzaldo drew a leadoff walk and scored when Acacia Anders doubled to center with two strikes. Butler quickly made it 2-0 with a laser off the wall in left to plate Anders.
Virginia Tech rallied back in the third with four runs on two hits. Starter Haylei Archer battled through the first two Hokie innings, but a single and a walk put two on with one out as Cal went to Randi Roelling out of the bullpen. Another walk loaded the bases and Rachel Castine hit a grand slam to make it 4-2.
Cal quickly had an answer in the fourth to knot things right back up. Anders took a free pass to start the inning and Butler launched a 1-0 pitch off the netting in left field for her fourth homer of the season.
Roelling settled in after the home run, scattering a single and a pair of walks through the end of the fifth. Cal's offense fell silent after the Butler home run, drawing just a pair of walks and a hit by pitch off of starter Lyndsey Grein and reliever Emma Mazzarone through the top of the seventh.
Starting the eighth inning with the International Tiebreaker and Mika Lee on second base, the Bears manufactured a run. Kaylee Pond put down a sacrifice bunt to move Lee to third, and after a groundout Butler doubled down the right field line for her third hit of the game to score Lee. Cal added another run when Butler raced home on a dropped third strike.
Leading 6-4, Roelling got a groundout, RBI sacrifice fly and a pop out to end the game and secure her third win of the season. She went 5.2 innings while allowing just two earned runs.
Game 2: Cal 5, Illinois State 2 Scoreless until the fifth, Cal's bats finally broke out thanks to Tianna Bell. The sophomore crushed her first home run of the season, a blast to left field as Cal took a 1-0 lead.
Anna Reimers was effective for the Bears in the circle, allowing just one hit, a bloop single, until the sixth inning. The Redbirds got their own bats going in that frame using a pair of hits and a couple Cal errors to take a 2-1 advantage.
The lead was short-lived as Pond went opposite field to even the game right back up with a solo shot. Tied 2-2 heading to the seventh, Cal reliever Ashanti McDade set the Illinois State hitters down in order to give the Bears a chance to walk it off in the bottom half.
The Bears did just that when Todd launched a 2-2 pitch way over the fence in center for her first-career home run.
UP NEXT Cal finishes the Littlewood Classic on Sunday, February 18th with an 8 a.m. PT first pitch vs. Memphis at the GCU Softball Stadium.

🍌🍒⚡️🫐? <3
hiiiii woagh theres lots to answer here. wip time
🍌 favorite funny quote from a wip
[pages through my many many wips] woe. hops greene be upon you. i want to finish this actually
“Damn it, Hops,” ae mutters. Lila walks the path towards first base like a model, flipping long white hair over one shoulder. The two of you lock eyes. “Groundouts are boring.”
“That one had some air on it. I’d bet it’s a flyout.” You look to the outfield briefly, squinting through the harsh light and cloying darkness. “Mugs might have it.”
“Aren’t they a ghost?”
“Yeah, but they’re like, our best batter. Don’t ask me how it works.”
🍒 favorite sweet quote from a wip
hmm. a while back i wrote some stuff with venti and vinny (the garages’ detective replicas) preparing for their return to Dust. i was inspired by the breckenridge case files and wanted to play with some letter-style writing. maybe itll get done someday?
I’m sorry we didn’t talk more. Vinny speaks very well of you, and though my investigations haven’t been hardly as detailed, I couldn’t agree more with his assessments. He thinks you’re “a real crackerjack fellow,” not that I could make heads or tails of that. But it was in a very positive tone! And he really — heh — lights up when he talks about you. I hope you can recognize the impressions you leave on people, because you haven’t yet left a bad one.
⚡️ wild card: dealer’s choice of quote from a completed work
hi. read my ruffian applesauce pls and ty
When Ruffian turns fourteen he makes a bat and demands to join. It’s a screaming bit of chainsaw and tungsten that glows and rattles and leaves gouges in the dirt because she’s still trying to lift it. The Mechanics just grin. They hand her a jacket, some patches, and a can of WD-40. Swing for the fences, kiddo.
🫐 a line from a published work that you’re proud of, but no one’s mentioned yet - or if you can’t think of one, an underrated line in general
ok uhhhh also from my ruffian fic: i like giving her a taste of being a Normal Kid instead of a huge public figure and it being way healthier for him without him fully realizing it. like giving a dog medicine by putting it in peanut butter
Ruffian likes shop class and he likes being the center of attention at lunch. As for the rest… she puts up with it, day after day, and doesn’t notice when it stops being something to put up with. Ruffian makes varsity. He scrapes by with low Cs and lots of detention. He kisses a few people and dumps them when they ask her to take them to the Core. There’s so many selfies and parties and beers in the bed of someone’s truck, and it’s not the Core — it never could be — but there’s something a little more human in the way people want him.

The Chicago Cubs' 2016 World Series victory is one of the most legendary and emotional moments in sports history. After a staggering 108-year championship drought, the Cubs finally broke the curse and captured the title in a dramatic Game 7 against the Cleveland Indians (now known as the Guardians).
The series was a rollercoaster ride that saw the Cubs fall behind 3-1, facing elimination. However, they mounted a spirited comeback, winning Games 5 and 6 to force a decisive Game 7, played on November 2, 2016, in Cleveland.
Game 7 itself was nothing short of unforgettable. The Cubs took an early lead, but the Indians clawed back, tying the game in the eighth inning on a two-run home run by Rajai Davis, sending the contest into extra innings. The tension was palpable as both teams grappled with the weight of history.
Then, after a brief rain delay before the 10th inning, the Cubs rallied. Key hits from Ben Zobrist and Miguel Montero helped push the Cubs ahead 8-6. Though the Indians scored one run in the bottom of the 10th, Cubs pitcher Mike Montgomery induced a groundout to third baseman Kris Bryant, who threw to first baseman Anthony Rizzo to seal the victory.
The Cubs' long-awaited triumph ended the longest championship drought in American sports and unleashed a wave of euphoria for Cubs fans across the globe. Players like Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Báez, and Ben Zobrist (who won the World Series MVP) became icons. Manager Joe Maddon’s unorthodox strategies paid off, while Theo Epstein, the Cubs' President of Baseball Operations, further solidified his legacy as a baseball genius, having also ended the Boston Red Sox's 86-year drought in 2004.
The victory was not just about baseball—it was about generations of Cubs fans, many of whom had lived their entire lives without seeing their beloved team win a World Series. It was an emotional, historic, and unifying moment for the city of Chicago and baseball fans everywhere.

31 Mar, BOS @ SEA, 5-1, win
I'll take our pitcher dealing over a pitchers' duel any day, and Garrett Whitlock dealt on Easter Sunday. I'll also just happily take a no-doubter win after two, close, heartbreaking losses (can losses be heartbreaking this early in the season? yes, folks, yes they can). Heading back out on the road an even .500 feels a lot better than heading to Oakland on a series loss. And Seattle have a good pitching staff. So winning against them is good. Anyway. The first series of a billion (or something like that) is done and we're off. The season is properly here. Not as properly here as when both the NBA and NHL are done, but close. It's fun. Anyway, we won and there are bright sides.
Garrett Whitlock went five innings, struck out eight, gave up one run and didn't walk anyone. He allowed three hits. That is good baseball.
The bullpen also did brilliantly. They gave up a hit and a walk and struck out two. Slaten pitched two and a third and ended the game on a strikeout. Love it.
Tyler O'Neill put the Sox on the board with his second homer of the season. He's hitting .400 at the moment. Small sample size but hey. He had two hits and scored twice.
Enmanuel Valdez also hit a dinger. A three-run shot of immense parabolic proportions into right field. Man he pulled that. I remember him hitting some pretty cool and important dingers last year as well. That is good. Keep hitting important and long and awesome dingers Enmanuel.
The lineup were strong in general. Trevor Story had a couple of hits and only two players had 0-fers, one of whom walked and scored a run anyway (Tristan Casas). The only total 0-fer was Jarren Duran, who's probably just exhausted from all the war and political turmoil on Arrakis (for those who don't remember, I have a long running joke that Jarren Duran's name sounds like a character from Frank Herbert's "Dune" and so frequently allude to him splitting time between playing for the Sox and riding sandworms... I should never explain my jokes).
Reese McGuire also had a couple of hits and knocked in a run. I remember him doing stuff like that last year too. Oddly enough, the run he knocked in wasn't even on one of his hits, it was on a groundout. A swinging bunt that he obviously didn't want to do that but still ended up ok.
We didn't make any errors. Those were a Saturday thing. Hopefully.
We won!
We don't have a losing record anymore!
I'm still excited that baseball is back! That seems to directly correlate to when we win baseball games!
