According to an old english folk tradition, if the weather is fine and clear on Candlemas, then cold and stormy weather will reign for the remaining weeks of winter. And bad weather at the beginning of February is a harbinger of a milder winter, and an early thaw.

There are different meanings for what Imbolc means, some say it means “In the belly” because of herding animals being pregnant. But historically Imbolc comes from the Gaelic word “Oimelc” which means “ewes milk”, because some animals have just given birth.

I'm sorry if someone already asked this and I missed the post, but is there a bird cam or tail cam you would suggest that's affordable?

Hi, I am using a variety of cameras. Some are a bit more pricey than others. Currently I am having a lot of fun with some less pricey trailcameras. The company is called Ceyomur, and they are available on Amazon. The Groundhog video and the video with the porcelain feeder are from these cams.

They have one with a solar panel and one without (that I operate with an external one though). The resolution is pretty good and I enjoy that I don't have to lay cables for them. They are not cellular, just simply with sd card.

The neat thing about them is that they come with an app. You can use the app to check the position (super helpful, and I wish more pricey cams would do that too) as well as battery status and settings while you are within 30 feet of the camera.

They do not send you notifications, you have to retrieve the material either by downloading to your phone or taking the sd card out. I do the latter, I have a system of rotating sd cards. With coupons etc you can get one of these for around 50 bucks at times. Here is a link to the one with the solar panel.

(Disclosure - I bought one of them and then talked to the company and they have sent me more cams to try. I do not earn money by mentioning them. The cams are fun and I love using them.)

Groundhog Day is a story of self-awareness, self-improvement and ultimately self-transformation. Phil does not transform his character through attaining more power, wealth or status. He cannot change time or place so he has to change himself.

We also know that some things that are WRITTEN down like numbers can be ready backwards or a little out of sequence so 8:51 could be 8:15

Summary:

Growing up in Punxy, Pa was about as glamorous as it sounded. Known for the groundhog that predicts the weather, the small town lacks any real whimsy, despite the plethora of colorful statues littering the streets. Now graced with the opportunity to move across the country to sunny San Francisco with her best friend, Y/N is excited for all the possibilities of what may come. First order of business, once settled into the quaint 2 bedroom apartment, is finding a job.

Wandering through the city streets, resumé in hand, she passes a family owned record store. Highway Tunes. Something about it pulls her in, but as she enters the shop, it’s not the racks of vinyls that hold her attention. Greeted by the two men that run the business, twin brothers, Y/N soon finds herself in a tangled web of her own making.

First, there’s Jake.

Possessive and egotistical, sure… He was a dark cumulonimbus, riddled with blinding and intricate streaks of white hot lightning that could set your skin ablaze with the slightest touch. But she could see through the clouds, see how truly sweet and selfless he could be. An Enigma, really.

Then there’s Josh.

If Jake was the raging storm, Josh was the bright, beaming sunlight that cracked through the menacing skies after the rain let up. Radiating with optimism and positivity, he carried with him a reliable warmth that could never be replicated. A warmth that enticed her to stay in his orbit forever. But you know what they say about Icarus and the sun…

Quick thing before I start: I am absolutely horrible at translating things outside of my brain. Sorry if anything I say in this post doesn’t make as much sense as it did in my head :(.

Ice Sculptures and the “Frozen Man” Metaphor in Groundhog Day:

Including deleted scenes, there are three major moments throughout the film involving ice sculptures, and how Phil chooses to interact with them. In each of these scenes, Phil is in a completely different stage of the loop. The headspace he is in at the time is reflected in how he interacts with the ice sculptures.

Instance #1:

The first time the sculptures are featured prominently in a scene, not much happens, Phil just walks by and looks at them with an overall forlorn expression.

At this point in the movie, Phil hasn’t realized the potential for growth that the loop has given him. He hasn’t tried to turn his life around or improve the lives of others, he’s mostly just been feeling sorry for himself, morose over being stuck on the worst day of his life.

His feelings of insignificance and overwhelming sense of being powerless in this situation is reflected in the way that he watches the statues: doing nothing to them, and nothing about his circumstances.

In the director’s commentary, Harold Ramis himself notes that this scene is meant to convey Phil as a “frozen man”; not learning or growing, but instead choosing to brood over his current state of hopelessness.

Instance #2:

(Tw for mentions of suicide in this section)

This is the only deleted scene on this list, but I think that it’s significant enough to be discussed even if it never made it into the final film.

While there is no way to know where this scene was meant to be put in the movie, I believe it fits best amongst the scenes of Phil repeatedly ending his own life as he tries, and fails, to escape the loop.

In these sequences Phil is careless with his life, trying every possible way to destroy himself despite knowing deep down that he’ll wake up perfectly fine the next morning.

His destruction of the statues mirrors this: he knows they will be fully intact by tomorrow—and no one will be able to see what he did—but at this point it’s just a method of catharsis for him, the same way his attempted suicides were.

His discovery of this power leads him to believe he’s some kind of god, and—after an effort to convince Rita to give credence to his situation—he learns just how much he can accomplish with his ability. This leads us into…

Instance #3:

This final example is probably the most obvious one. After finally realizing the potential that reliving one day over and over gives him, Phil decides to take up ice sculpting, and becomes incredibly skilled at it.

Unlike the other two instances, Phil is creating a statue of his own, he’s at last using his circumstances to shape the small life that he has into something new and beautiful, that only he can accomplish.

While each of the previous examples involve the tacky groundhog sculptures made by the townsfolk, Phil’s statue depicts a graceful, angelic being. His previous hatred for the small town has faded, and he’s using his unusual power to bestow benevolence and good deeds onto all the townspeople, even if none of them could know or comprehend how he’s able to solve all their problems.

I could go on a whole other tangent about “Phil is a god/angel” implications, but I will hold back now for the sake of this post. (And because I’m a very normal person.)

So yeah, that’s my little analysis of how the ice statues are used as a symbol throughout the movie! The movie that I’m obviously very regular and not crazy about!

im really interested in this developing plotline about draculaura being pressured to be like the model of Good Witchcraft. it works well with her established character and arc of like trying to live up to her fathers reputation and status in the monster world. poor girl never seems to be able to just fucking relax.

skelita! i love that shes trying out witchcraft, and the art-based magic is a fun angle too! i can totally see where this is going tho. drac is super serious about magic because theres all this pressure on her while skelita is just trying it out in a casual way so theyre at odds. its an interesting dilemma because i can def see both sides.

im really happy the writing seems like empathetic to both positions here. skelita deserves to try magic her way on her own terms, but its also totally understandable draculaura would feel protective over witchcraft when any misuse of it is ultimately going to reflect on her since she was the one working to legitimize it. respectability is a double edged sword fr!

Bast took hold of his soul in her mighty jaws and lifted it free of his body. She gave him a warning shake, just as she would a misbehaving kitten, and set him back. With one careful claw, she tweaked his path through time into a twisting loop. Wayward and abandoned though he was, N'Jadaka was still of her tribe. He could set things right, if given the chance. Erik gets a do-over. Erik gets a lot of do-overs. Or: Erik Killmonger's own personal version of Groundhog Day, only with a lot more murder, dying, trips to the ancestral plane, awkward family conversations, and divine intervention.

He feels colder than he did when he froze in the Arctic. "Do you—" Bucky hesitates. "Do you know why?" (Alternatively, the countless times Steve fails to protect Bucky from a guy in a metal suit and the one time he succeeds.)

Summary: Steve has only ever wanted to help people. Maybe that's part of the reason why it nearly tears his heart in two the first time he watches Bucky die. He can't help but think of the 'what if's'. What if he'd been there sooner? What if he'd been able to stop it? By the five hundredth time he watches Bucky die though, the whole situation's really starting to lose it's charm. (Or: Bucky is stuck in a time loop, and Steve is accidentally along for the ride.)

Summary: The Time Stone beckons Steve with the promise of home. He ends up in Clint's farm, reliving the same day again and again.

Summary: Today has been strange and, considering the majority of Bucky's life, when he says strange, Bucky really means that. It's not one big thing that makes it strange. He's fought giant interdimensional squid monsters while standing on the shoulder of the statue of liberty. Things like that don't faze him any more. It's the little things that are making the back of his brain itch. All the little things that are starting to add up. It's that uncanny valley feeling: everything just a little left of normal, not enough for you to say exactly what's wrong, but enough that you know something isn't right. And he's pretty sure it's got something to do with Clint Barton.
