My collection of cassettes

Felt like showing off some of my music collection and i should probably start simple. First off, this is my current portable cassette player. I don't find myself using it as much since it's a bit shaky at points and feels like they play at a lower pitch unless it is completely still.

Here are my custom cassettes. News at 11, Blvcklvnd Rvdix 66.6, Who Really Cares, and King Of The Mischievous South vol 1 were recorded from my iPhone to my cd/cassette player via aux and blutooth. However the rest of these pictured were recorded off of a different portable Walkman which was somewhat cheap and I didn't know how to properly record them and they sound extremely off. Might rerecord them someday.

Here are some metal cassettes I picked up at a local music store. I first started out with Deathcrush by Mayhem and I enjoyed it and figured that next time I went, I'd pick up at least 5 metal albums to dip my toes into the water. I actually ended up picking 5 metal CDs and 5 metal cassettes. I'd say my favorite metal cassette from these pics would have have to be Self Loather by Ghost Bath.

Here are my rap cassettes. Most of these I ordered from artists/record labels online merch store but I'd say my favorite cassettes from these have to be the Devon Hendryx cassettes (Dreamcast Summer Songs, JOECHILLWORLD, The Rockwood Escape Plan, and The Ghost ~ Pop Tape.) since they were a graduation gift for myself and were limited time only or Monster Tape Zero by Groovy Kaiju because the artist actually signed the case and the package wrap.

Lastly, here are some miscellaneous cassettes I picked up recently from a goodwill because they caught my eye and I thought they were interesting. If you saw and read through this post, I thank you for your time.

I think two other things that happened in the Disney-Florida relationship are important for context:

Pretty much contemporaneously with the initial DSG bill, Disney opened/was opening a massive facility for its (mostly IT) employees. iirc, it was something like 75k estimated jobs.

Disney's employees kept going on strike/protesting for like an hour/day for a week during the period of time between "Disney donated/backs Desantis and therefore DSG" and "Bob Iger does a PR statement and walks it back"

Disney vs. DeSantis is so funny because it's like. Neither side even wanted to get into this. Here's how it's supposed to go: Politician does something stupid. Corporation disavows politician after public pressure. Politician disavows the disavowing. Nothing changes for either party.

But then the Florida governor got stars in his eyes. He saw an opportunity to bolster his standing before the presidential primary. He wanted to be the one who took on The Mouse and won. So in retaliation he decides he's going to tear down the decades-old agreement Disney has to govern Disney World's district.

And just like that, Disney's batshit insane legal department turns towards Florida like the Eye of Sauron spotting the ring at Mount Doom. They smell potential lost profit. They smell blood.

Disney will use any and every strategy they've accumulated over the last century of lobbying congress and DeSantis can't back down lest he admit Mickey Mouse kicked his ass. He lost control of Disney World's district even more than he already had. Now he's getting sued.

This all started because Disney was pressured into backtracking their political contributions to Florida and disavowing the Don't Say Gay law. Now they're fighting for something they actually care about: their profit margin. Disney is not an ally to queer people and they're an enemy to progressives, but damn am I rooting for them to keep humiliating the greater evil for the time being. This is high comedy.

Too Many Conventions!

Hello! 

Turns out, I'm a liar. If you read last week's blog, I ended it with a whole little plan for the next couple of weeks, completely having forgotten that I'm about to enter the most convention heavy stretch I have all year! This is my last "free" weekend until April pretty much! 

A week from today, 2/25, I'll be at the Arizona Comic Book Arts Festival! If you're anywhere near the Phoenix area and want to see me to buy comics or bring your own to get them signed, this is the place to do it! I'll be bringing a pretty chunk of my stock, including stuff from Sonic, Godzilla, and pretty much what's left of my Transformers/Hasbro stock! Maybe this one, maybe in a couple more events like this, I'm going to be running out of Transformers vs. Terminator and Wreckers, so get 'em now while you can! Becca will be there too and you can get us both to sign our little mini-comic, Jimmy Squarefoot! We'll also be bringing copies of a zine we made explaining the issues with AI! And Becca will have a bunch of other stuff at their own table! 

There are a bunch of other really great people attending including Elizabeth Brei, Danny Djeljosevic, Mitch Gerads, Steve Rude, John Layman, Henry Barajas, Jay Fotos, Jeff Mariotte, Marcy Rockwell, John Yurcaba, Andrew MacLean, Alexis Zirrit, Meredith McClaren, James Owen, Ryan Cody, Tone Rodriguez, Cecil Castellucci, and so many more! So come on out and see us! 

Then, Becca got into WaifuExpo the following weekend, 3/3-3/5! It's going to be a cool little adult (18+) focused con in the Dallas-Fort Worth area! Becca's going to be in the artist's alley and I'm going to be there as their booth babe. I will NOT be bringing any of my stuff, only Becca is tabling (*tho if you are planning to attend and get ahold of me ahead of time, I might be able to pack a few things to give in person). Becca's working very hard on preparation and will have some exclusive stuff for adults debuting there! 

Similarly, lots of cool guests including some very notable cosplayers and voice actors and other artists! It also seems like it's going to be a very activity heavy con if that's your jam! 

It's also our first time in the DFW area, so if you have recommendations, those would be appreciated! 

Then, if everything goes right with the first two cons and I'm still feeling groovy, I am tentatively planning on going up to TFCon LA on 3/10. Again, this is health and finances permitting after two other back-to-back shows, and I am not coming as anything other than an attendee, but if you catch me at Jack Lawrence's table and want me to sign your Wreckers or Alex Milne's table and want me to sign your TF/Terminator or whatever, I'm happy to do so! 

And finally, I expect to be attending WonderCon 2023, March 24-26! Again, same deal as TFCon--my availability will depend a little bit on not having gotten sick/burned out from the other shows with only one weekend of "downtime" and I'm going mostly as an attendee, rather than tabling individually or with IDW, but this is the one con where I'll be most open for meetings. 

After that, I have to assume that I'll hibernate until the summer! And somewhere around there I'll get back to what I mistakenly proposed last week and do another "Ask Me (Almost) Anything". In the meantime, new posts are going to be coming to the blog, but they'll be a little irregular because they'll be coming in-between shows!

Aradia Beat - The past few weeks, I've been plugging this cool Magical Girl Anthology Magazine that Becca's part of! This morning, the campaign closed and they had just exceeded their second stretch goal! Thanks anyone here who contributed and if you missed out, well... you missed out! No, but give Aradia Collective a follow and they'll be able to tell ya if there'll be any other ways of getting it in the future! 

More Magical Girls - Our pals Elizabeth Brei & Danny Djeljosevic and a bunch of their friends are getting close to their goal on their Kickstarter for Sweet Little Resistance, which you should check out! And you can tell them you're psyched for it at AZCAF! 

Becca is a busy beean - Somewhere in all this con prep and the many shows we're attending, Becca's also managing regular Patreon updates (and this month, any new sign-ups will have their first pledge go to The Brown Building here in San Diego). They're also open for commissions. And they're now streaming Wednesdays & Saturdays (including tonight, but not when we'll be at shows) on Twitch! I'll usually be there too, moderating the chat and making jokes, playing the soundboard or whatever. You can check out their first stream playing Heartbreak High on their page now! I think the plan is Wednesdays will be games and Saturdays will be art, so come check it out and hang! 

Legislative Tracking - Legislators are doubling down on attempting to pass anti-trans bills. Fortunately, some of them are not managing to move forward. Unfortunately, the bad guys keep trying. Here is a legislative tracker for you to keep an eye on and hopefully if anything is happening locally to you (and on the federal level), you're able to reach out to your reps and can tell them to knock that shit off.

Today we learned about our first project with the parameters being to adapt a popular story or news event into our own spin with the themes of time and motion at the forefront. We then did an exercise in class where we were shown three clips, a trailer for Godzilla King of the Monsters, the opening clip of 2001 A Space Odyssey, and a groovy dancing man from a film I didn't know. We were then instructed to adapt one of the clips into an illustration with our own twist on it.

I chose to adapt the Godzilla King of the Monsters scene into a movie poster but made Godzilla into a massive chicken nugget. Looking through a modern lens, the effects make Godzilla look really silly and remind me of a massive dino nugget. I wanted to adapt Godzilla more humorously.

Our son and daughter agree it's important to post this that they had big plans and still do but bigger for our son and daughter coming up this week and they say into next week if necessary and yeah their fleets made it nowhere and their fleets are small now and they're kind of fight each other so we're wondering what they're talking about they plan on going after the pseudo empire so it really would not be until that marker that keeps saying that it's gonna be earlier and they know it's not no but they're weird and kinda really strange and they're not really winners now they're trying to fool people and it doesn't work because their fleets just get wiped out and it's no contest so it has to be something else and they're like their father and they're saying it they wanna be groovy and put it in people's face and stuff so our son says I'm one person and you can't even handle being around me and you make it so damn hard it says I got really **** and it's not gonna be fun so they have no idea what he's talking about and they say that yeah that way too but we do they had a heart to heart with the max then they had a meeting in cities angry and belligerent and somebody's doing it on purpose and it is Trump it does have a stupid plan. We do worry about our son and daughter then we are going to hit these people more often. As it is they get hit a lot and they do suffer. Long as so pleased with what's happening she's seeing big stuff and said they're having them do it then she is happy as hell a lot of people are horrified like Mac and Sandy's has that she says that Godzilla is a nice short name and Lord of the Rings is too hard to say about smog but she's pretty crafty and implied she is Godzilla and you can't use her name or the movie when she brought it up speak quick and sharp and these people are losing it and they're awful and there's a lot of stuff that's happening but people are relieved that our son does not like guilty of a crime and stuff but then it's not really the greatest but it is explained why and they see that the max are the ones who are criminals and they forced a lot more than just him who did just a little there's still forcing it by the way. There's more things happening but we have to print.
